Barbell battle: The cheapest vs. most expensive option
💪 Eleiko Weightlifting Training Bar: garagegymreviews.co/EleikoIWFBar
💪 CAP Barbell ECO 7-Foot Olympic Bar: amzn.to/38M3W4U
The barbell is one of the most important items you’ll buy for your home gym, but does it have to be one of the most expensive? Or is the cheapest barbell just as good?
To find out, we’re buying and testing the cheapest Olympic barbell on Amazon, the CAP Barbell bar ($80), and putting it up against the Eleiko Weightlifting Training Bar ($900).
We’ll answer the question: does a barbell that’s 10 times the cost of an Amazon barbell perform worth the cost, or could you get just as good of a workout at home with the budget option?
Coop, and the rest of the Garage Gym Reviews team, looks to get to the bottom of it.
We’ve set the bar when it comes to fitness equipment reviews, and if you don’t believe us just check out some of our other barbell content.

The big takeaway on this is that your money is probably wasted on a budget bar. 300 lbs. is a pretty reasonable expectation to be lifting regularly for an intermediate. You're going to outgrow that bar pretty quickly.
Definitely depends on your goals, get the bar that suits your goals 👍
@@shiuido359 dude if u train like a normal human it just wont last
@@moreasmorebaes9996 eddie hall said a flexible bar is better it trains your stability better ,but the bar shouldnt stay bent lol
@@girlsdrinkfeck honestly the fact that you called it flexible should be a good enough indicator that you don't know much about the sport. Bar whip makes a difference in when ur pulling off the ground as more it bends the longer it is on the ground, which is why olympic bars are whippier, however in powerlifting you are trying to make it as much of a brute strength test as you can, stiffer bars will always be preferred for training before a meet.
@@moreasmorebaes9996 lmao telling me i dont knoe much ? ok mr know it all
The test we needed.
LOL!
Brandon I thumbs up your comments before I thumbs up the videos
@@hicelee11 Where can I send payment?
I use a 50 dollar bar from 1987. Ive had it for 8 years and it works. Im not putting 1000lbs on the bar. If someone needs 1000lbs go for an expensive bar, but 95% of people wont.
@@maddawgzzzz exactly, I think these people like to spend to spend
Dope...would have rather saw a mid valued barbell be tested as well
Seen*
@@michaellk2254 thanks now I can understand what his comment meant
I wish there had been 3
Yes throwing a Rogue Ohio bar in the mix would have been perfect to see how they all stack up!
Is it just me, or is anyone else wondering if the Eleiko would have bent at their stated weight just the same?
I doubt dropping 70 pounds off it would have prevented damage.
Coop, you shoulda stopped at the rated limit, so you could ask for a refund. Lol.
If you go in a bit deeper the bags weigh a few pounds and the chain too But can that bar even fit 3000 lbs worth of plates ?
@@jakub871 if u made plates using tungsten, sure
Probably the way it was attached had an impact too I'm guessing. Using chains results in basically all the stress focused in a single spot as opposed to kinda spread out like normal and because the chains slip down to the part that is thicker it might add some different forces the bar is not rated to withstand.
I dunno if any of that made a difference, but I can't imagine Eleiko making inaccurate claims for their products.
I would have liked to have seen more steps like 2k, 2.75k 3.3k, and then over the limit
Yeah you shouldnt really approach 90% of any weight rating, for anything important. Doing so repeatedly creates stress that can invisibly weaken it and lower the stated weight, for one.
Production on these are getting better and better, and they were already excellent! Appreciate all that you guys do for the community
but I do not like the 'Reality TV' vibe going on here
Eleiko: “if you out over 3300lbs on the bar it will bend”
Coop: *puts over 3300lbs on bar
*Bar bends*
😱😱😱
Yeah, even though it surely wouldn't have been distributed per Eleiko tests/engineering, it was kind of annoying to jump from 1,000 to over capacity. Something in between, then capacity, then slightly over capacity, then significantly over would have been nice. Just a little bit of extra effort could have made this better.
@@DampRaccoonyeah this was weird. Makes me think something else was up. They had no time, they were scared it would fail at 1500 or something. You would absolutely test 1k then 2 k then 3k. Then overload it. You’re trying to figure out when it will fail, not that it will fail when overloaded. Technically you would use a new bar for every test to avoid metal fatigue. But this isn’t mythbusters. Still sketchy to go from something a person could lift to 3400 lbs.
Coop you guys are knuckleheads in the best possible way.
I just want to say this platform influenced me to build my own home gym and you guys at GGR made it sooooo much fun. The amount of reviews and the depth of research you guys do is incredible and made it so easy. I would’ve have even know where to start without GGR and COOP!! I ultimately decided to go with all things REP. Thanks Coop and the gang for all you guys do! Truly one of the top platforms of any social media platform! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Stress test of a 2x2, 2x3, 3x3 of different manufacturers cross members. People are always hating on import rack steel...let's see how they compare.
Excellent idea. Compare the different sizes, and Made in US/Imported
I know you said it would be the cheapest "someone would reasonably use" but the shitty knurling, no bushings/bearings, etc make the cheap kindof unlikely to be used by many of your viewers. Would've preferred something in the budget category that would actually be usable on a daily basis. I have a beater bar that was sub-$150 but has real knurling, doesn't flex with minor loads, has bushings, etc. That CAP barbell is somewhere between a toy and a real barbell.
These new videos look more expensive but I prefer the old style tbh
OK then don't watch them
@@OK-sp8iy dont reply if u dont like his comment :D take your own advice ;)
Purchased by a media company. Many things have and will change.
What's more impressive is the bags that can hold all that weight without ripping open lol.
For real. I don't know how expensive those bags are, but they're apparently stronger than a budget barbell.
Those are builders bags, used for transporting tons of sand etc, they are designed to be very durable
I’ve been watching your informative videos for a couple years. That offbeat humour Coop and Sam have been hilarious. Keep it up!
I love seeing you guy continues to grow and get better. Keep it up best video yet
You guys definitely deserve a LOT more credit for these videos, keep up the good work!
Loving the quality of the videos lately. The editing, script, etc., was really a step up and it showed!
That was pretty awesome! Def would like to see more vids with the same energy!
Loving the production and the level of fun you guys put into the video.
Awesome, it’d be cool to see more of this! I really enjoyed it!!
Now this is a video!
So good.
Love the concept
This is some solid content that feels genuine from you. Love it!
I'd definitely want you to test more barbells! Best sale, choice, popular brands, etc..
Great video!
love the new videos man....hell yeah channel came a long way
One of my favorite videos you have done so far
You guys are having way too much fun! Awesome test of the Eleiko bar but pretty much what was to be expected from the Cap bar.
Was actually searching for a video like this forever grateful it was done by you
Btw that cheap bar with no bushing is my home gym bar 😂
… and yes, love seeing equipment pushed to its MAX!! 💪🏾
Awesome video. Could watch these tests all day
Great vid Coop ! I'd suggest the same test between the elite bars, Eleiko VS Kabuki :)
Great video and it was a lot of fun to watch
I've been using the Olympic bars that came with four 300-pound sets of Olympic weights that I bought on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods.
I wanted the weight plates for plate-loaded exercise machines I own.
However, I also use them when I do bench presses in my squat rack.
My top bench press weight is only 355 pounds, but the Olympic bars handled that weight easily.
Most people aren't going to lift extremely heavy weight, so it doesn't make good sense to pay $1,000 for an Olympic bar.
This video might be my favorite video y’all have made. Super cool!
“The Rock doesn’t lift weights” hahaha quote of the day.
Production values definitely have been improved!!! Good job 👍
Great test. Informative and entertaining vid.
Nice to see a barbell focused video! Well done!
This type of content was super cool! Science + Gymbro science = Results
+OSHA violations
Great episode. More for sure. 👍
Dude I love this type of content. Its informative, entertaining, a little silly, and leaves the viewer learning something while getting a laugh. Reminds me a little if LinusTechTips. Keep it up 👍
Lol... Always love your content. I'm getting some Tanked vibes in your new layout and filming style
Love it! Keep it up!
3 ton solid round metal bender: The Cap bar was successful. You should ask Eleiko the technical specs of how they rated their bar. I suspect that shoulder width is too narrow. Fun to watch though!
Companies are going to use whatever is most favorable for them. It would be max width, probably 4foot like cups in a power rack. Or it’s something even dumber like it could be dropped with that weight on it and the impact wouldn’t bend it. You can’t actually load a bar with 3300 lbs anyway unless you’re machining your own plates out of something exotic. Someone said tungsten maybe could get there. Idk. Doesn’t matter. I assume the thing is puffery. The only thing that matters is if it can handle 1k. And if it doesn’t will they warranty it. I’m assuming the answer to both is yes.
Great video. I'm all in favor of more content along these lines. I've always enjoyed the videos where GGR puts equipment to the test. I'd love to see some real tests on True Grits equipment. They have some affordable alternatives (such like the runner and bumpers) that I would totally buy if someone could really break down how durable their stuff is.
Love this content, there is now way I would choose to afford this kind of testing. Thank you
This is the torture test content I signed up for! Now do them all!
honestly the most impressive part of this is the strength of the bags
Hey Coop random question: when you first took the barbells out of the containers and placed them on the floor tiles, I was curious which floor tiles were those? Eleiko?
Best video production to date! But can you pls include KG conversion on the graphics?
Thanks guys, next time I go for a 3,370lbs squat for 10 reps I’ll know to expect my Eleiko bar to round.
I am so entertained by this video😂. definitely love to see Rogue OPB go through this test
Loved it that was fun to watch
Coop did not want to even attempt to damage the Eleiko!
Loving the personalised hard hats
we need to make a bar out of those canvas bag handles
Great entertaining vid! Worth the Eleiko sacrifice.
Coop great video but more details, wold like to see those famous knorling, zoom it and Eleiko bending, how much, more details
The production values of these videos as of late have been amazing. Great content. Keep it coming, guys.
Now imagine the capacity of Rogue's 38 mm curved bar!
That’d be a good one!
Be curious to see how the cap beast, or any of the others you've recommended in the budget gym build videos would stack up.
Awesome Video, all im thinking about is how you still need to put back the rack you flipped over
Love this test
Well I definitely need a new bar now!
Would love to see some mid level bars tested.
Love the videos brother.
Your mom is going to need a new bar too!
@@artv4nd3l4y 😉
That was wild as hell and very fun!
Btw, how could cap call it an Olympic Lifting bar without bushings or bearings?! Are they trying to hurt someone?
Would love to see this test with the best budget bars.
A lot of folks have an OPB, let’s see what that can do in comparison to something else! Another awesome vid, thanks!
Throw that CAP bar on Marketplace:
"CAP bar for sale. Kew color. Only used for one session. Good bar for unique variations."
This is the content were looking for !!!
Great content.
Love this content.. Even though nobody is lifting that much weigh, it holds companies accountable for their product and we get to see the equipment taken to the limits.
Great video. I would have liked to see whether a weight slight under the stated limit would have bent the bar, i.e 3000lbz.
Wow! I’ve had broomsticks stiffer than that CAP bar! 😂 great vid Coop & thanks for demonstrating the difference between quality and bargain.
COOP! Test a curl bar next, please!
Coop, have you ever done weighted jump rope reviews and speed rope reviews?
I'd love to see my synergee rhino bar tested. I bought it a few weeks back and I love it, says it's rated for 1500lbs while is more than I'll ever need.
it would be cool to see a strength test video on power racks
Coop, any chance you’ll be reviewing the ATR attachments or racks from Stray Dog Strength in the future?
Loved it! Shocked that the bar was only rated for 350lb. I have a standard bar in my living room that’s rated for 300 and doesn’t deform under that weight.
Lmao beware it might just snap instead of bend
I'd like to see you guys do a test like this with one of the Xmark Barbells.
It would be cool to see a comparison and breakdown between the Rogue Pyross bar and comparable bars like the American SS weightlifting bar, and so on.
Really seeing the added production value of the new studio
test the higher end budget bars like the rouge echo bar and the bells of steel entry level bar
This was the most entertained I've ever been while suffering from motion sickness.
The comedy one liners are great this video
Coop talks about knurling and shafts. This is both comedic and serious.
Hey Coop, show example of good way to store store multiple specialty- bars (Transformer, Marrs- Bar, etc)
The buff dudes prepared me for this
“The size of the shaft” reaction. Lol.
Hey coop can you try the spinlock cheap bars because im 15 and on a tight budget im considering it
I like the yellow paint, it really helped it imitate a noodle at the 5:11 mark.
How about testing one of your best value/budget picks, the Bells of Steel Barenaked powerlifting bar?
One of the most popular weight sets for home gyms is the Fitness Gear 300 lb set. I'd love a review on it like this
Had it for a bit, and it's good, but when I added deadlifts and Tru Grit started selling regularly $1/lb Bumper plates, I switched to that and like it better overall.
Fitness gear weights make up the majority of my home gym weights, big fan of the handles on them. I do have a regular pair of 45s that I always put on the bar first so that my deadlift ROM isn't made a deficit
@@ohhellothere3217 my main concern is the barbell, does it hold up?
@@derekdouglas6147 Sorry, forgot to clarify that I only have the weights and not the bar, I got the ohio bar for that.
@@ohhellothere3217 I'm considering selling the bar for like $50 on Craigslist and getting something better, but maybe by some miracle the bar is good and I don't need better but by the time I know I need better I won't be able to make any money back
I think I have that cap barbell LOL Its worked for me so far, but maybe I should think about upgrading some day
You just convinced me to buy cap!
I love that this feels like Fantasy Factory!!!
I’d be more interested in seeing the comparison to something like an Ethos bar; something we can find in one of the sporting goods stores.
I like to see a comparison and max weight test like this between the Rogue full stainless power bar, the cheapest Rogue Ohio bar and the Elite FTS power bar.
I’d like to know how a bar with cerakote can have a lot of whip or flex bc that material is typically pretty brittle right?
It would be an interesting test on a rouge 32mm squat bar.
Can you do video on ATX barbell video? and there gym equipment? what do you think about ATX (german company)
It would be cool to see a weight limit of an adjustable bench(600lbs vs 800lbs or 1000lbs) by stacking weights in a single spot to simulate a downward force of a bench press.
We're all anticipating the "best horseshoe barbell on the market" video. Titan will be a fast follower.
