Can a Bird Scooter Tow a Trailer? - 42Fab #25

- A repeat customer contacted me asking if I could make an adapter to connect his E Scooter (same model as the Bird Scooters) to his Burley Bee Bike trailer for his son. These sorts of projects are a great way to get out some creative energy after a week of "work" AND a great way to kill time waiting for rain to stop.

That was a cool quick build! Really like the idea of just tacking to the table.
That's a fun one. Always a fun project modding stuff to do new things!
Okay I'm just glad you demonstrated the different wire-feed welding methods for sure I would have thought showing off a little powder-coating might be in-store even got excited when I heard that probably would have kept it right at 10 minutes of video time. Thx...
Another awesome job!!
Yeah buddy! Cool little project :)
great way to spend time waiting for rain to stop!
I like your quote better bro "Go out and make somethin' " great job 👍
I’m thinking of buying an e-scooter, and I already have a bike trailer. I might eventually buy an e-bike, but prefer to have something more compact, if possible, hence the e-scooter. I ride my analog bike to run errands, but want something w/ more torque and power than my body can generate at my current level of fitness (that might progressively improve in the future, but I do want a non-automobile “vehicle” to ride around in, for distances longer than I’m able to ride on my bike).
I love your presentation, and am grateful that the Google/UA-cam algorithm led me to you! I’ve been watching maker videos/channels for years, and now have YOUR channel to add to my myriad subs! 👏 👏 👏
Thanks for the free quality education, and looking forward to learning more from you! 🙏 😊
Great job!
Nice project Love your videos
well done awesome project thumbs up
Cool video, But... You could of just mounted the trailer normally like it does on a bicycle. I already have 3 Xiaomi m365 scooters with a trailer mounted the regular way. All you need to do is remove the the plastic cover, that covers the bolt where you mount the trailer normally on bicycles anyway . It literally takes about 5 minutes with no modifications at all besides removing the bolt installing the trailer mount and putting the SAME bolt back on in the same location. No need to build the clamp thing that’s wrapped around a plastic cover.
Oso... can you help me? we just bought one of these and would love to put a child trailer on ours... which one do you have????? I'm not really handy so any help is appreciated.
Bryan Lee I’m using an Allen bike rack from Walmart.
Bryan Lee what's your email I can send pics
Oso Calvillo I am interested in some pic’s too. Please help. Thanks!
Jordan Sisson sure what's your email. Super easy buy a trailer from Walmart Or eBay "Allen" is the brand I use. You remove the plastic cover that hides the rear wheel bolt, then remove the bolt. Then just put on the trailer bracket put bolt back on to hold the bracket in place, install plastic cover if you want and that it your done. The trailer hooks up exactly like it would on a bicycle
Hot little Scooter, very cool idea !
Fun project. I love being able to do things like this. Now it just needs powder coating.
i need more tools to do fun stuff like this.
Good idea !
Great video @42fab
Good job
Betcha bird will buy the idea for that.
Awesome job. I'm here because I'm planning to use an electric scooter for pulling a fishing kayak...
How'd that go?
Wait what?
Good stuff
cool deal!!!!
Haha Clever!
I don't have access to a place to do this, unfortunately as I live in a major city. Any chance you sell the bracket to people?
Wow this is amazing wish there was somehow I can order the same one with the same scooter for me and my daughter
We do build them on commission when requested
How much would it be to make me one I have the exact same scooter and trying to do the same thing to pull around my daughter on the scooter
Thia was so cool
cool...now, how much one of those bracket?👍
That's what I want to know!!
awsome
Seems super sturdy, great video :) I wonder how it'll affect the handling/braking of the scooter?
Didn't really seem to, the trailer is light
depends on the weight of the kid ;)
@@henryjudas I used to ride around with a custom built trailer on a bicycle all the time when I was a teenager. Once I put two adults in the trailer as they could just fit! I blew the rear tyre out going down a hill because it skidded for so long and the rubber block pads were so hot I could smell them. If you lock your rear wheel up, the trailer will try and push your back end round and make you go sideways, if your cornering and hit the brake its very easy to lock the rear wheel, and again it will push your back end round. It can be sketchy with lots of weight so you have to look rite ahead and plan in advance and brake in advance otherwise it could get real bad real quick!
Can this mod be sold? I'm wondering if it will work with 36,48,60 volt based motors.
nice....
adapt a cart ( wagon) like me. can load much more
Great handmade item for the xiaomi m365 scooter!
What was the price for the addition?... How much did you charge?
Are you open for international shipping?
$200 including powdercoating
@@42Fab Thank you mate.
Could have just took the plastic bolt cover off lol
If the trailer was carrying 50lbs+ would it still work, and would it work up hills?
It does
hi, i contacted bunch of metal fab companies by me (nyc). none of them do small stuff like this. i own the same burley kid trailer + “cycle board electric scooter”. i wonder if you can fab a extended tow hitch for my application. because currently im using the included bike trailer tow hitch on my e-scooter, but the front of the kid trailer is scraping the ground with very low ground clearance. i can send a pic/video for better explaination about my case. please let me know, many thanks!

Can you do one for a push golf cart?
A trailet mount? Definitely
Does that scooter have enough tork to pull the baby and the stroller
Yes
@@42Fab Wonderful
can you make me one of these? I have a budget of like $4 so that would be gr8 if we could come in under budget. thankx and ill look for it in the mail before i send payment.
Yeah, no problem, $200 shipping though
You likely do not realize these are my friends, who also discuss the business side of things on their channel, and this was sarcasm.
hmmm... i wonder what the failure mode is for that clamping mount? There is a huge clamping surface there, and the clamping load has to be pretty massive with those three bolts. Who wants to look up the coefficient of friction for steel and plastic and do the math? Its too early for math, so i say the answer is "a loaded cart is not heavy enough to pull that mount off."
edit: i just realize the back plate is forward of the axle, so it can never fully pull off. i wonder what exactly would happen if the end user doesn't tighten the bolts enough though and the whole mount slips back into the axle. probably nothing?
i think it would rub on the hub until it was noticed or the hub started to wobble. However the clamping force of 3 5/16 bolts is over a ton, so good luck, eh?
Mass produced these and put them on Amazon lol
Would you be willing to make another one? How can I contact you with details to the hitch I have?
Yes, for about $150, sales@42fab.com
@@42Fab Thanks!! I'll be in touch!
Do you take orders?
I almost sh1t myself @ 1:16 Otherwise it looks like a cool idea.
Can you sell me one of these
Can you please sell me a kit. I would buy it.. I'm looking to do this so I can take my grand daughter with me..
Not really practical without knowing the exact trailer and scooter you have, but hopefully you can follow this as a guide and build your own.
That scooter belongs to bird... You cannot steal it and do that.
you know you can buy them, right?
Great until you get to a hill.
Works fine up a hill,
Way to be a positive influence in the world!
