I highly recommend to practice wrapping your hair without actually adding chemicals. You CAN mess up a perm even if you read the box;) if you wrap your hair improperly it won’t turn out. The other thing to remember, there is no such thing as a beach wave perm. The really large rods never work. Pick small rods if you want your curl to be noticeable and last longer. I wouldn’t use rods any bigger than what she used. Once you have a perm you need to dampen your hair, add a product like mousse, and scrunch your hair every morning to rejuvenate your curls. the more you wash your hair, the faster the perm relaxes. Oh and DO NOT perm bleached hair. It WILL burn and fall out! Good luck! 👍
I have naturally VERY curly hair, I can't even calculate how much money I've spent on straightening it lol. I've been wearing it curly since covid, I like it.
I love how you film yourself doing it every time.. I will watch all of them.. Final product looks amazing. I got my perm re done a few days ago also, feeling like a new woman 😂👩🏽🦱💁🏾♀️
If you wanna perm your own hair buy warm and gentle from Sally’s and if it’s colored warm and gentle for color treated hair . Best perm possible . Does not ruin hair . I have platinum blonde and I’ve used it many times . If you buy the wrong perm it can burn off all of your hair . Sally’s or a professional is your best choice , I am a licensed cosmetologist and I know some people don’t wanna spend a lot of money to get it done if they can do it themselves but just don’t shop at Walmart for perms because that’s absolutely a no no . Someone I knew who had virgin brown hair attempted herself and came to school next day with a pixie cut because it burned her hair off completely
I’ve really been wanting to perm my hair and have been growing it out since I last dyed it to prepare for it. I was thinking of going to a salon to do it but this video made it look so easy! Now I wonder if I should try it at home 🤔 I’m so scared I’ll mess it up
I’ve permed my hair at home twice each a year apart. But both times my hair was bleach damaged so the perm didn’t want to take on the damaged parts. Now I’m just growing it out but I want to perm it so bad !! I love curls
Yeah, I think with treated hair/chemically treated hair the perm won’t take well. I find that doing the process on natural hair works best. I hope your hair grows fast! 🤗
My hair is very thin and I want more volume, so each I had a perm it looked amazing and I want to go back to it. So I was wondering, my hair is kind long as yours, how many rods do you usually need?
I've watched tons of perm vids and yours literally came out the best and most natural and pretty looking! 2 quick questions for you: 1) how straight is your natural hair? 2) do you dye your hair/ any highlights, roots etc? I've read so many do's/don'ts about coloring and perms in terms of which to do first and it's all over the place and contradictory depending on who you ask. so what do you think? should you color before or after getting a perm, and if so, how long should you wait in between the perm and getting it dyed / or if you advise the opposite order (perm 1st, then color after), then how long to wait after getting it dyed and then getting the perm, etc. any advice about that stuff? thanks so much!
My hair is naturally pin straight! I don’t have any other changes done to my hair. No dyes, no roots no extensions. I’m not a professional but I would perm first and then dye. Perming does damage your hair a lot so just to minimize damage
@@Savannahxo28 thx so much for your quick reply! yeah, that order makes mosts sense to me, so thx for confirming. i'll wait a ton of time after too. (i'm also lucky in that i've 'trained' my hair to be able to just wash once a week so that helps with damage too plus do a lot of diy good crap like masks, oils, rice water etc lol). also, great to hear yours is so straight, cuz mine is straight with some wave so if it works on you, it's gotta work on me! (i figure anyway).
IT CAME OUT SO BEAUTIFUL, AND YOU EXPLAINED EVERYTHING SO CLEAR, WISH SOMEONE, WERE I LIVE COULD DO THAT TO MY HAIR!! RIGHT,LIKE U MENTIONED ON YOUR OLDER VIDEO YOU MIGHT NOT BE A "PROFESSIONAL" WITH A NAMETAG ON YOUR SHIRT. YOU ARE WAYYYYYYYT BETTER!!! NEW SUBSCRIBER🙌🏼
I would say anywhere from 45-60 but it differs each time I do it. I have a new video of my most recent perm and I answer some of these questions. Check it out if you're interested :)
This looks awesome.. But can you tell me if you color your hair before or sometime.. Because if someone does the same with damage hair the hair fell off maybe?
My hair is naturally suuuper curly, but my curl pattern is very inconsistent from straightening it, so I’m considering getting a perm of giving myself one 😩😩
Should I use clarifying shampoo (no conditioner) when washing the hair before perming? I'm going to perm my son's hair and he uses a lot of hairspray this week, except for the last 2 days.
Hmmmm I wouldn't do that just because you wanna make sure you're rinsing out the most perm solution and neutralizer so you don't burn or damage your hair any further.
Wow lovely perm on your self, looks very nice, how was the smell of the lotion? Impressive you roll your hair in the rods yourselfs but great result Thanks for sharing
As I've gotten older my hair is loosing its curl. I wonder if this bring it back? My picture is my natural hair. I've notice a change since I've been dying my hair red the past few years a red tint I don't know if that makes a difference but I'm going to stop dying it with the Reds. Did you have curl or Texture to your hair before you started curling it?
I’m transitioning back to my curly hair and the straight parts I spent years relaxing is really annoying me now lol I’m too impatient to wait for it to grow out so figured I curl it again. How do you manage to put the perming solution on the rods without it touching your scalp?
Perming solution will saturate your scalp as well. No biggie. Just make sure your scalp has no cuts or anything. That's also why the coil is so important!
Savannah your perm looks fantastic!! Impressive wrap by yourself. Do you cut it after the perm? Do you cut layers or do you just keep it all one length? The only thing better than a fresh perm is fresh cut bangs :)
Hi Savanah, I am going to do this, but my question is how would a person know what kind of perm to purchase. I am thinking I will just go with the Blue Box the One and Only. Should this work on most peoples hair. My hair is fine with no body but I have a lot of it. I was going to use light orange rods which are 5/8" or 16mm if you prefer. Dont really want to mess with lots of different sizes. What do you think
How do you know what kind of perm to buy if you dyed your hair you know like with the dye from CVS or Walgreens if you dyed your hair like 5 months ago what kind of hair dye would you buy
If you want a tighter curl, then what you should do is use a smaller perm rod than she is using. What a perm does is break the bonds in your hair, and then rejoin them in the form that they are sitting in. So, the size of your curl after a perm entirely depends on the size of the rod. When picking a rod, get one that looks like it would give you a tighter curl than you want, as you loose some of the curl when you wash the perm out. Hope this helps!
Just to insure that curls will develop. Would Rolling the rods on and sleeping with them for a night help? afterwards in the morning you wet the hair & then add all the solutions .?
Hello I know this is an old video but I was wondering if you remember your hair having like a bad smell? I remember as a kid my mom will get perms and it would take some time before it left her hair. I have tight curls but my daughter does not. She wants a perm but I’m scared if she goes to school with a bad smell in her hair.
Hi there! Yeah the smell stays on my hair for about four days. It used to stay longer but I’ll usually do a 24-hour hot coconut oil hair mask on day 4 or 5 that gets rid of the smell and leaves my hair super shiny!
One n only didnt work for me either tiem whiich the first time i rinsed out the neutralizer i thought i was supposed to keep some in … 🤷♀️ sux waiting for my natural curl to grow back out!
How long do you have to wait to do another perm?? So say if I did one yesterday and dint like that it's not that curly how long do I have to wait to be able to apply a second??
So I am thinking my light orange rods may be to big in diamiater. you used grey and white. In looking a chart i found on google, it goes from orange, light orange, purple, grey and white. Grey and White is what you used. So I am thinking I am off to purchase more rods Grey and White and scrap the light orange.
I think it’s just based on your preference and what type of curls you want. For me, I did a lot of research on the different types of perms (alkaline, thermal, acid etc.) so I would just see which type of perm is used on what type of hair and pick the one that suited your hair type.
I thought according to reading the non instructions on the confusing box that i wassupposed to rinse out the wave lotion before putting in the neutralizer
I would love to get a perm done!! By the way the doggie super cute, for a moment there i thought it was my dog I get her hair styled the same way.. lol..
Depends on what you mean by "flat". Usually it bounces back but I just posted a new video on my most recent perm and I talked about this a little. Check it out of you're interested :)
What if u have bright colored hair? I’ve been turned down by Beauticians because they say my end will fall off. Can I still perm. My hair hasn’t been bleached or dyed in over 4 months
So, you take the rods out and put the neutralizer on? When do you rinse? I think the lady at the salon rinses me with the rods still in? I’m curious, since I’m in lockdown and won’t be seeing anyone for several days at least, do you think you could rinse with the rods in and then leave the rods in for a day? Would that make the curls tighter?
You can rinse and use the neutralizer with rods in, but it should be curly enough without leaving them for a day. I think it could make it weird looking
I know it sucks but you have to just kind of deal with it for the 48 hours. It’ll die down a few hours after the perm and not be as harsh. Once you’re able to wash your hair, you’ll be fine :)
It won't ruin it but you will want to get a perm for color treated hair because it can be stubborn and not want to take the solution/curl. Also deep condition and use hair masks once your out of the 48 hour window and can wash hair again to keep it healthy .
I thought you were spraying the perm on with the pink spray bottle… so hair needs to be washed, wet, rolled, then perm lotion sprinkled on? Are the steps dot pointed? I can’t see them in comments. Thx
Yes wash before no conditioner, then the pink bottle is just water to keep it wet to roll it so no flyaways or whatever then you do the perming solutions after rolled 😉
I’d like do myself my perm , I never did before, I’m just ask for the products suggestions, my hair got color 3 months ago and is long hair. How much boxes of products did you use , my hair is like yours
Have you ever let your hair dry in the curlers at the end? I am afraid my hair will resist the perm because my hairdresser said so years ago. Taking the curlers out while hair is still wet worries me somehow 😬🤔😟 Your video was the best one so far with a real person, doing a good job by themselves! Real curious what you think.
I wouldn’t let the curlers sit just because you wouldn’t want any extra solution to damage your hair further. My first time going to a hair salon, my hairdresser said the same thing. I did this exact process myself and it came out wonderful!
My beautician has said perms have been out of style for years. So, I've used a curling iron for beach waves for 6 years. I'm not liking the damage it's done.
I think when we as clients say “I want a perm” the beauticians look at us and think like 80’s style perms. Lol I love perming my long hair and it saves me so much time when I jump out of the shower. I can just put some styling cream and go
Hi Savannah I’m new to your channel and I will definitely try to do my own perm as I’m inspired with your video. I will order my perming solutions at Sally’s now as it’s not available here in UK 😀.
All my perming products are also listed in the description and available on my amazon storefront if you're interested :) Can't wait to hear how it comes out!
omg exactly two years later i see this video! Look at all the two´s in this Date. Crazy. Now i also watched the 21 Edition, And the result was even better than this one. i wonder how orange perm rods would look on your hair, only used as non permanent style, so without perming lotion, just hairgel in every wet strand and then curled around the orange perm rod. How we would use it fro a special occasion..or not even special (i think about doing this every week once ). There are so many Videos from afro american hair and the orange perm rods look so pretty on it! The prettiest from all of the rods. But there are no Videos of how orange rods are looking on straight hair with gel.Could you try this? :-)
@@Savannahxo28 Wow thank you so much for the reply! I guess it's back to Amazon because I have no where near enough. Our hair is very similar in length.

this was very clear and understandable, thank you!!!

I got my hair permed like a month ago and still has the smell in it when it gets wet 🤢

How did you do your hair in the back ? Do you roll you hair up or under honey?
I kinda just take turns with each :)
Omg your hair looks beautiful
do you put anything on it after the perm is done or do you just keep it wet?
I like to just keep it wet and don't touch it or style it for the 48hour period
Wich mm do you have i think the 13mm is good but idk
I have a question if you’ve only bleached your hair once and you wanna get a perm well that ruin my hair?
It won't ruin it but you will want to get a perm for color treated hair because it can be stubborn and not want to take the solution/curl. Also deep condition and use hair masks once your out of the 48 hour window and can wash hair again to keep it healthy .
Jade Lopez thank youuu! But also I have straight natural hair and I think the perm won’t come out
i wanna do this bc my natural curls are garbage.. lol but i deadass feel like imma fuck it up

So, I've used a curling iron for beach waves for 6 years. I'm not liking the damage it's done.
I think when we as clients say “I want a perm” the beauticians look at us and think like 80’s style perms. Lol I love perming my long hair and it saves me so much time when I jump out of the shower. I can just put some styling cream and go
Does someone know about how many perm rods she used for her hair..?
Hi Savannah I’m new to your channel and I will definitely try to do my own perm as I’m inspired with your video. I will order my perming solutions at Sally’s now as it’s not available here in UK 😀.
All my perming products are also listed in the description and available on my amazon storefront if you're interested :) Can't wait to hear how it comes out!
Do you have to have paper between the rod and the hair?
Yes! Making sure that all your ends are wrapped evenly.
Do you dye your hair regularly? I've been advised not to perm because I dye my hair.
I’ve never dyed my hair but I’ve heard the same thing
Wat did Yu use
I did it myself but I only did the tips incase I fucked up I could just chop it off but it came out amazing thanks to her tips
omg exactly two years later i see this video!
What type of rods did you use
how long does the perm last?
Does it stink up the house
Hello,
Would you tell me how many rods your hair typically needs?
Since my hair is long and thick, I usually use about 10 packs. 5 white and 5 grey.
@@Savannahxo28 Wow thank you so much for the reply! I guess it's back to Amazon because I have no where near enough. Our hair is very similar in length.
