You did a great job. I have one suggestion should you ever decide to do it again. You should roll the curls under. It will give the hair more volume at the root. By rolling it the way you are, you're pressing the roots against your scalp, not getting much lift at the root.

I’ve been a stylist for about 30 years now.....don’t worry, I’m not going to lecture you... experimenting with my own hair is what led to my career choice. Having said that, I thought it might be helpful if I bestowed a bit of product knowledge upon you: Hair color removers do 2 things, usually. 1) they soften and swell the hair 2) they shrink the pigment molecules, allowing you to rinse the color out. The ends of our hair are usually tougher and less malleable than newer growth due to environmental factors, chemicals, and general wear and tear. Also, our ends will often have color overlap, making it much harder to rinse pigments out. However, if you try the color remover again, my advice is to rinse for a VERY long time with warm water, then use a 10 volume color developer and pour it on a test spot. If there are still pigments, they will reoxidize immediately and you know to repeat the process. If you skip this step, even if it looks like the color is all gone, the pigments will oxidize again anyway, just slowly. You would likely wake up after 24 hours or so with dark hair again. ☺️
Since the perm solution is highly alkaline, it will also soften and swell the hair, opening the cuticle and allowing some pigments to be rinsed out (which is why color fades a bit during a perm). The “acid” refers to the neutralizer that locks in the shape that your softened hair has taken-on wrapped around the rods, resulting in a “permanent “ curl-formation.
    I hope this helps!

I hate to tell you but the front part is not going to sort itself out it was the way that you actually rolled the hair because that is beyond important especially if you want volume you should do completely on base and yours were about half onhalf off and you probably should do a directional perm next time and pay attention to the direction and placement. that’ll help a lot! Glad you liked it though!

She rolled it completely wrong.. if you look at her tips you can see how they look crazy and weird.. she had way to much hair for one roller, and she needed to roll under not over.. under gets it closer to you scalp.. please DO NOT roll your hair like this, or anyone else either... you need to roll straight all the way from the forehead to the nap (look at your nose is in the middle of you rod), making sure to take VERY THIN pieces of hair to roll... one you’ve rolled in a straight line from front to back start on one side and roll straight down.. you should have 2 rows on the side of you head (this should be for both sides of you head).. once you have done the 2 rows you have a crazy funky patch.. I typically roll vertical on this because it’s only 2-4 rods.. if you have over 3 (typically only 2-3) then you need to find out what happened and re-roll it.. once you’ve rolled it this way you are done and can start perming... I’ve been doing my nieces perms for over 14 years now and she will NOT let anyone else touch her hair doing a perm.. I’ve never been able to do my own hair because I can’t see how to roll it in the back but I attempting it today lol... I am going to do a spiral curl instead of this traditional rolling style.. if you’d like to know more on that search on UA-cam for home diy spiral perms and you’ll be able to see a lot of the tutorials for that rolling style... my ex-sister n law rolled mine kinda like she did and I had to go let a professional fix it which cost more than if I had of just went and had a perm put in.. it can really damage you hair if you’ve bleached your hair... it wish turn it into mush and you’ll have to cut because it’s stringy, rubbery, and stretchy also... I’ve had this happen before also.. cooling can damage your hair and when you put the perm in it, it can slow burn it and your hair possibly come out, most the time it’s in patches.. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE MAKE SURE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE TRYING TO ATTEMPT THIS.. IT IS STILL A CHEMICAL AND DOESN’T NEED TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE DONE IT AND IT WAS FINE ON THEM... THEIR HAIR MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN DAMAGED AS BAD AS YOUR, SO DONT EVER LISTEN TO SOMEONE ELSE ON THIS ESPECIALLY IV YOU DONT WANT TO HAVE TO CUT ALL OF YOUR HAIR OFF OR WORSE... HAVE IT BREAK OFF WHEN YOU TRY TO TAKE THE ROLLERS OUT... YES, I HAVE SEEN THAT HAPPEN BEFORE TO A FRIEND AND ITS NOT PRERTT AT ALL... SHE ENDED UP HAVING TO PRETTY MUCH SHAVE HER HEAD AND WEAR WIGS UNTIL HER HAIR GREW BACK OUT... DONT LET YOUR MISTAKE BE SOMEONES STORY AND DONT LET SOMEONE TELL YOU THAT IT WANT DO THIS.. IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME CALL YOUR HAIRDRESSER AND ASK THEM WHAT WOULD HAPPEN AND THEY WILL EXPLAIN EVERYTHING... if you decide to do it after that then that is on you because you had done your research and knew the chances of what could possibly happen... y’all don’t just watch this videos and assume it’s okay.. I came across this searching for up to date spiral techniques for rolling.. I was shocked by how irresponsible she has been to not let you know more of what could happen.. I give her credit for saying this isn’t a tutorial and NOT TO DO THIS but she needs to be a little more thorough bc this is a social media platform and children do watch this who have no idea about the dangers of any kind of chemicals... perm solutions can be picked up from you local dollar store and Walmart but I wouldn’t recommend it.. Sally’s has perms that you can buy without a license.. those are a lot barter than the dollar store/Walmart.. again please EDUCATE yourself before doing a perm.. this is permeant and cannot just be washed out and if you fry your hair the damage is done and cannot be undone..

I’ve been doing my nieces perms for 14 years now and was taught by a really good friend that use to be a hairdresser so I’m not just saying things to make her look bad.. if you don’t believe me call your local salons or go by there and ask them the dangers that can happen and the irreversible damage you can do to your hair.. I’m sure some of them will even have pics of home perms gone wrong and how they burnt their hair off at the scalp.. it’s not bad to do them yourself but you need to know the proper rolling techniques also..

With you being a hairdresser you should not give her praise for this.. her rolling was horrible.. to much hair for the roller, it was rolled over and not under, she could have burnt her hair off where she put the cap on because the elastic sitting and pushing on the hair can actually burn it off if the elastic is to tight.. she also didn’t say specify if she washed her hair after she neutralized it, which needs to be washed.. viewers that don’t know anything about perms can do som very serious damage to their hair that cannot be reversed once done... no I’m not a hairdresser but I’ve been doing perms for my niece the past 14 years.. I had a very good friend that was a great hairdresser teach me how to do perms THE RIGHT WAY and my niece will not let anyone else touch her hair doing a perm except me.. my friend went to a great cosmetology school and not some lower end, government funded school.. not talking down about you but you of all people should be trying to help instead of hurt.. there’s a lot of kids on this platform that can view this, thinking it’s easy to just roll your own hair WITH NO SPECIFIC WAY or IT ISNT GOING TO DAMAGE THEIR HAIR... I have another good friend/family member that is a hairdresser that I typically use for stuff I cannot see to do with the backside of my head because I don’t want to mess it up... she’s the one that has taught me so very much on the irreversible damage you can do and sent pics of what can happen when, (when not if) things go wrong because if you have bleach in your hair it will fry it, it can also break off at the scalp when you go to try and unroll your hair... it can burn and fry your hair, especially if you DO NOT RINSE IT COMPLETELY OUT.. it can burn your hair off, burn your scalp, and more if you do not wash EVERYTHING out of your hair.. there’s so many dangers to doing this at home if you have never done it before, especially when you have bleach or other dyes in your hair before you perm it... y’all don’t just take my word for it, call your local hairdressers (if you have more than one, call both or all) they will be able to advise you on which path you need to take and course of action before doing the perm

@@christieknotts1281 my rolling WAS terrible and I’m cool with you calling me out on that. But I do state that I’m not a hairdresser and I did it for fun. I do a lot of things with my hair that are probably dumb or incorrect but it’s just because I enjoy trying to do things on my own. I do state that it is also not a tutorial. I hope no one follows it as such because I know I did some things wrong. I respect people who put in a lot of time and work Into becoming professional hair stylists. But I also don’t see anything wrong with trying to do something myself and for a stranger on the internet seeing the positives in what little I did do right. I appreciate someone being uplifting and positive and I don’t think we should shame someone for doing so. I do appreciate your feedback though and for sure know I did not do this as well as I could have. Also, yes I rinsed each step for the correct amount of time.

@@alexravella7849 its not that you didn’t put disclaimers out there, I heard those and I’m proud that you did this.. you have to understand that 12-13-14 year olds don’t listen to those things. They hear those as “she’s not a hairdresser and she done it, we can too” is what I was saying.. children could get hurt very badly because the perm solution could get into their eyes, and it can make you go blind doing so.. this could be very harmful to their scalps and could even severely damage their hair to the point of falling out.. also you have others on this thread asking where you got the perm, that you done great and wished they dine theirs too, and so on.. I’m hoping you truly seeing the part where it could severely hurt someone and lose their eyesight from it... all I ask if that you educate yourself before doing this ON ANY SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS.. most my know that it’s just fun and doing something to entertain them and yourself, but what if there’s 1 person out there that doesn’t listen and doesn’t know.. they are 11 yrs old and follow your video as a “tutorial” it gets in her eyes and she’s blind for the rest of her life?? I’m sure you didn’t think about the harm that could come from it, it seems simple but ANYTHING that involves CHEMICALS can be anywhere from slightly harmful to deadly.. especially if someone is allergic to it.. if you are going to do stuff like this all I ask is that you think about educating yourself so you can put ALL the disclaimers out there so no one gets hurt.. you know just like I do that there’s going to be others that follow your video as a tutorial.. I’m not a professional hairdresser but my first cousin taught me how to cut my own hair, dye my own hair, and do perms because my niece wanted it done without paying $560 for it due to her hair being so long. (14 years ago she was a hairdresser) if you are going to be on a platform as big as UA-cam and doing things with chemicals you owe it your followers to educate yourself so you can educate them, then if they know the risks and still proceed to do it, it can not come back to hurt you.. I know you didn’t do it to cause harm to others but having fun can sometimes lead to harm in the long run... I can do perms, hair cutting, and dying but I don’t advertise it on ANY social media outlet... simply because I’m not licensed and even afterwards I don’t post saying look at what I’ve done because of the same issues.. others see it, think they can do it, and even up severely hurt or even dead.. yes it can happen with a severe allergic reaction to the chemicals in it.. if it closes their throat it will kill them.. they wouldn’t know they were allergic until it’s to late.. so please just educate yourself so you can let others know how dangerous it can be before deciding to do this.. saying your not a hairdresser doesn’t make it okay... I didn’t mean to call you out as badly but this is very very serious and I want you to take to heart what I’m saying, not brush it off until someone’s child dies and then you are held responsible because it was your video that was watched and you didn’t have the proper knowledge put out there.. if I was you, I would put an 18 and over only for these kinds of things so it doesn’t come back to hurt you.. look up all the kids on UA-cam doing things they have seen others do on here and it will shock you.. my 2 great nieces watch UA-cam but they have filters on to things they cannot watch, most parents don’t do that though.. sorry this was so long but there was a lot to say... I hope you take it seriously.. God Bless
