Advice from a curly hair girl😉: wet your hair daily in the shower and run conditioner through it..only shampooing once or twice a week. Keep a wide tooth comb in the shower, comb through your hair while cond is on it. Just use a good curl cream and a diffuser, when your hair is dry flip it upside down and scrunch it a little for volume....after that just let the curls do their magic the rest of the day! 😉😘🙌
Yas girl 🙌 I said the same diffuser changed my life. LOL I said almost the same thing word for word except I choose to use a spray bottle after day 1 wash helps me save time

Screen shotted this advice!! Thank you! I think this routine will help bring out more of my curls before I go and perm it lolol 😅 My hair is like wavy /cute and flat and straight. Lol like I see some ringlets! And then :P
"It doesn't look as good as it did yesterday" and it's amazing mermaid waves lol. If it feels crunchy you have to break the cast by running your fingers/palms through it to soften it
This isn't about the pros and cons of a perm, this is the consequences of having curly hair lol my daughter has curly hair and everything you listed as a con is her normal.
I just got a perm and I love it! I had super straight hair before and was honestly so disappointed with my hair everyday because it would look good unless styled. But now all I do is apply curl cream and scrunch and diffuse and it looks super curllyyyy! I love it.
I had perm done a month ago and I love it! I had very straight and healthy hair, but it was super heavy - I couldn't achieve any volume ever. Now, volume is great. You need to learn how to live with curly hair, how to take care of it, because you can't just brush and go. For me it was so worth it. Will definitely do it again!
I'm thinking of getting a perm for the exact same reasons as you, my hair is impossible to keep any curls due to how heavy and long it is. Ive done a little reading into perms and i want some looser curls (like this woman in the video) I'm just wondering how do you maintain the curls? Im fully aware its not as simple as straight hair where you can just brush it and carry on with your day. How do you dry it correctly without blowing out the curls? If that makes sense. Thanks
You are like one of the billions of people on Earth who do not deserve what they have you should have your hair shaved completely bald I'll bet you look like a poodle with a bad hair day you had healthy hair and you decided to destroy it and you'll do it again it's people like you that make the world a disgusting intolerable place. They are never happy with themselves always trying to change themselves without realizing they're making themselves more atrocious everyday
I get that it’s more time consuming, but I feel like achieving a similar amount of volume and texture every day would be more time consuming than that, you know? Like your original hair was less effort and time but you were maybe less happy with it? as a straight haired girl dying for a perm, that’s the main reason I’m considering it!! Ps you look amazing xo
I always like to brush out my perm before shower and then not again - so not in the shower- and also I shampooed my perm every other day and it was fine- didn’t ruin it
I have natural straight hair too. I permed my hair. I think the key is to use the right styling products. I use hair mousse. It really define the curls.
Advice for the tangles: Take a spray bottle add some water and a little conditioner then spray it on the tangled parts and detangle with your fingers! :) EDIT: btw you are gorgeous and your hair super pretty:)
@@LenaxBasco No worries! Your hair is super gorgeous and suits you so well. Also if you want volume in the roots without using volume hairspray(to stop product build up) you could also try clips to pin up the roots when drying(or a diffuser)! :)
Idk if that would’ve helped but there is like a routine of plopping hair. You prep it with curl activating products and some moisturiser and then put it in a towel and leave it on there for 30 minutes before drying. Hope it helps
No, I have straight hair and I am happy with it. Change doesn't mean you hate yourself, it's literally just a change! It's fun. I love my natural beauty and everyone else should too, but I also encourage playing around with different styles! That's all there is to it!
And yess having curly hair requires alot of maintenance! I use leave in conditioner plus gel on top of that. I only wash it once a week because it takes so long to air dry! I also use dry shampoo on top of that during the week. I have naturally curly hair and it's a struggle but I love my curls 😊
I have 2a type, and it straightens so easily so I never knew about my real hair texture until recently. I always thought my curly/wavy hair as a child phase ended because of puberty. Turns out nope. Just heat drying and brushing basically straightens it easily. Air drying takes forever I agree!!! And it’s so hard to brush my hair. I still don’t know how to get a perfect routine to truly take care of my hair for once.
I absolutely love your perm! Seriously the perfect waves. I am getting one on the 17th and I want the same curls as yours. What size rod did she use on you?
Anyone with curly hair could have told you these cons. That's why we get straight perms and are envious of people with straight hair haha. So much less maintenance. 😆
it doesn’t look like it did before you washed it bc you aren’t caring for it like the salon did (which is normal- they do SO much to your hair at a salon that ppl can’t or don’t want to do at home)
So, idk if you’ve figured this out, as I see this was filmed 7 months ago, but you should follow SOTC method. Put product in your hair when it’s WET, not damp, scrunch your hair with a t shirt or your hands, diffuse it to lock in curl. Once it’s COMPLETELY dry, scrunch again with a t shirt to scrunch out the crunch (SOTC). Don’t run your fingers through your curls, but rather clump the curls to maintain the look you’re wanting. There are certain products approved by the curly girl method, and certain ones that will weigh your curls down. Sleep in silk/satin head wrap or with silk pillow case.
I love your perm!!! Nice natural looking waves! So many people associate perms with 80's big hair. I'm Asian, living in the South Carolina for about 8 years. 4 years ago, I decided to start perming my hair once a year, at the beginning of summer. Before I would try to dry straight my hair but after it was dried, it would frizz up after 15-30 minutes. Also, after 10-15 minutes of blow drying, my scalp would start sweating, that's probably why my hair would end up frizzing. I have long hair and I get a perm with the orange rods. The orange rods leave my hair with a nice wave without being overly curly. I like curly hair on others but for me it would not look natural or good. I love the convenience of wash, fluff and go!!! During the winter there is enough perm left, so that when I do blow dry, I still have a little texture from the perm, that adds body to my hair.
Echo your sentiments and shock at the number of products to use and the amount of tangles. There's a science behind it. Str girls have a completely diff experience of hair compared to curly girls. That said ....i dig my perm too.
I got a spiral perm again after a decade of not perm hair. My older second cousin did beautiful perms but i moved and didn't trust the stylists here. My first wash is still a day away and I'm worried. The spirals started loosening almost immediately after leaving now its just frizz. I think the stylist lied and didn't know what she was doing. She got chemicals in my ears. While taking out the rollers she was pulling my hair out because she got them tangled. It really hurt and I was crying. Then she brushed it straight before putting me under the dryer. Im really down about it, hopefully it looks ok after I wash.
I was thinking of a perm to maintain a vintage hair style, but omg I could never not brush my hair throughout the day. I’m so glad you mentioned that, I had no idea.
Having naturally straight hair is easy for everyday styling but hard if you want volume and waves/texture/curls drop a lot. I would suggest getting a diffuser low heat low setting and flip your hair over to achieve for volume. Watching the lady do the perm she should’ve done smaller cleaner sections and put the end papers on the ends of your hair not covering the whole perm rods which stop fish hook ends 🙈 I would suggest next time getting a tighter curl done as your hair is healthy and strong and perms do drop overtime but it’s up to you 🥰 I love it on you and would love to get a perm ❤️
I love your perm! It looks super good! 🥰 I did a perm before, and it literally last just a week because I didn't use products to keep it in tact. I'm thinking of doing it again! 🥰🤭
(this does not intend for any hate, I am just sharing my opinion here) I mean, I am a person who used to style my hair straight and is actually wavy, when making the transition I did commit myself to using loads of products and taking more time styling. Like I do think people in general think having curly/wavy hair is a piece of cake and when you said that using 4 products was too much for you, I did feel you but I did also think about how little people know about hair texture care in general (I am included, I recently understood it when styling my own hair).
You do not have to wash it everyday. You can just rinse with conditioner. In terms of styling products, just use alittle of bit if anti frizz oil and a curl enhancer. Alittle goes a long way since you have fine hair. Your products might be weighing your hair down. Also, your conditioner might be weighing your hair down as well. You should lightly/ gently brush your hair with conditioner on to remove the tangles.
Which salon did you go to? It came out looking amazing! Perms aren't as common as they were in the 80s and I don't want to go somewhere to get this done if the result isn't like yours.
How different does the quality of the hair feel? Is it dry and split easily? I wanna get a perm on virgin hair I take care of it really well and don’t want to ruin it’s health
Hi Lena ! Thank you so much for this video. It helps me a lot on my process to getting one or not 🙏🏼 though I have one question and also one request (if it's not too much): 1) are you 100% Asian? Where are you from? Ofc, if I'm asking it's only to know how close it would look on me ☺️ (I'm Vietnamese btw) 2) could you just make a quick review before doing your next perm? So that we can know how long did it last and how it looks after all. That would be awesome! Thanks also if you read and reply to my comment 😊 bye beautiful !
You look gorgeous! I love it!!! I'm on the fence about getting one, because my hair is a bit damaged, but your video experience was very encouraging. Your hair looks healthy before and after! Thank you for sharing.
I think it looked better after the wash!!!! It looks stunning and now im convinced, i'm going for a perm too hahahaha, tired of my straight hair. Ive had a perm before many yrs back and I loved it then, si why not!!
If you do get another perm I highly suggest you get a diffuser for your blow dryer if you're concerned about the diffuser all it does is help Define your curls without blowing your hair all over the place it will change your routine in your hair results forever speaking from a curly haired girl also you don't necessarily have to wait you're 3 days to have to restart oil your hair then you don't necessarily have to keep putting product to restyle your hair I do have curl your hair than you do but what I do instead of adding more product on product second day maybe I need to restyle my hair I just use a spray bottle whatever product was there maybe I'll add a little bit more sometimes I don't need to do that I'll just use the diffuser over damp hair that I just sprayed with a bottle and you get the same result from the first time you wash your hair if need be that way preventing you from washing your hair as often and product build-up hope it helps
@@LenaxBasco I always have a product to keep the curl pattern shape together like a leave in conditioner something cream water based and then when almost dry I top with oil to seal in the moisture and the cream in. Oil is a sealant so only used on top of spray moisturized hair if used alone seals in dryness. That was a game changer when I found that out. I have very fine hair it looses shape and fizzes easily. I air dry when I have time its best for hair. But try different methods that work for you. Although hairdryers with or without defuser and curly hair needs a product to hold a shape otherwise it does its own thing at least mine does lol I have 2 textures in my hair they seem to fight each other if product isn't used. Sorry for the lengthy response
i love how your perm turned out, looks more natural and even like a digital perm. i wanted a digital perm but was told i couldn't and wouldn't take because of old color in my hair. question- did you previously have color/bleach in your hair for this type of regular perm?
Hi there!! i’m looking into getting a perm possibly just to have more volume and for something different. i was wondering what kind of perm or what size curls you did? it looks amazing btw
I use a waver for my hair to create those waves or curls like a perm and use the same Paul Mitchell foam, this is a way to create the look without a perm. I really thought about getting a perm but I’ve noticed it’s a lot of work to keep it the way you want it :(
I got a perm in like november 2019 and it still is kinda visible today (2021, feb) but it grows out with your hair. But that depends on your hair type ofc! :)
@@crazysarahpotter7040 Wow, that's more than a year! I've had friends tell me that some of their perms actually permanently changed their hair. Did you get a wavy or a curly perm. My hair is frizzy-wavy, and I've been considering getting a one-time straightening perm so I don't have to deal with it. My hair changed from straight to wavy in my teens lol.
@@carinatruong6446 I got a wavyish one... My hairdresser said it was one of the lighter ones you can get. My hair didn't get tooo frizzy but I do have a bit of damage but that's because I didn't take care of them good enough... 😅 But once you know how to work with your perm it'll look amazing!
I'm just seeing this! I cut most of my length off but I do have some waves at the ends. Just barely though 😕 It lasted about 5 months before I saw significant drop. Hope this helps! edit: it's really more texture than waves
The problem is people think a perm is like a permanent babyliss kind of style... it is not. Once you get a perm you have to learn how to take care of your hair as a curly or wavy hair, which is NOT EASY. This comes from someone who is currently going through a curly hair transition. I hard man
Not sure if someone suggested this to you already but maybe doing overnight curls would work for you or even hot rollers. I know their old school but they work. Also, I'm sure one of my curly hair sisters already suggested looking into the curly girl method. The maintenance on curly hair can be a lot of work but once you find your routine and products then it's not so bad. :)
Why would you put that many products in your hair😱its not necessary. One product after you get out of the shower is enough. You never comb or brush a perm after you get out if the shower. When you are in the shower and you have conditioner in your hair, you use either your fingers to comb it or a long pronged wide tooth comb thats it for combing then you tap dry no harsh drying scrunching pressing is enough and then using the same scrunching technique apply one only stay in conditioner of your choice
hi! is this a cold perm or a hot perm? ive seen that you mentioned that its a regular perm, does it mean its a cold perm? :) thanks! your hair looks beautifullll btw, really want to get a perm for myself now :’)
I want a perm as well, when I was little I had super tight curly hair and then as I got older it just became a wavy frizzy poofy mess so I’m hoping I can get my natural hair back 🙂
Your perm looks fantastic. I have naturally straight hair and permed it too. I love my perm for the volume and find it easier to maintain and style for work. I never brush my hair and use marshmallow mousse in after the shower with all natural organic shampoo and conditioner. I found the perm last longer after 2nd perm. My perm dropped in 3 months or so after the first time.. Hope you still love your perm 🙂🙂
girl i just got a perm in quarantine and i really didn’t like it but you gave me some confidence 🥺 i wash my hair every other day sometimes 2 and i’ve had the perm about 2 weeks. if you want some straighter more flat hair , try to brush while wet with conditioner starting at he ends. try to stay awake from heat and get trims often 💞 you look great btw
What color rod is that. I usually get purple/white. Is that bigger or smaller? Never saw a Orange like Rod. I like it!!! Please help I got a perm scheduled for April 5., might wanna change rods! Looks really awesome!
So the day after and the second day did your hair seem more straight? I got one Saturday night and the next day after sleeping on it, it was pretty straight. I didn’t put anything on it since you’re not supposed to wet it for 48 hours! I’m worried it didn’t take or it failed!

Where did you got your hair permed? And how much did you pay? Let me know pls.
How different does the quality of the hair feel? Is it dry and split easily? I wanna get a perm on virgin hair I take care of it really well and don’t want to ruin it’s health
Hi Lena ! Thank you so much for this video. It helps me a lot on my process to getting one or not 🙏🏼 though I have one question and also one request (if it's not too much):
1) are you 100% Asian? Where are you from? Ofc, if I'm asking it's only to know how close it would look on me ☺️ (I'm Vietnamese btw)
2) could you just make a quick review before doing your next perm? So that we can know how long did it last and how it looks after all. That would be awesome!
Thanks also if you read and reply to my comment 😊 bye beautiful !
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm Korean :)
I'll definitely be doing an update within the next month!
I love it...especially after you washed it. I'm getting one. I came here to see your results. Love it!
Ive had a perm before many yrs back and I loved it then, si why not!!
it looks so good on you. I am thinking about getting a perm. How much does it cost?
Thank you so much!! It was 250+tip
LenaxBasco is your hair normally thick?
I say it's about medium thickness
But your hair looks AMAZING!!!
I think it looked so good after you washed it! Looks like my natural subtle curls
I find that using a diffuser makes my hair more frizzy 😞 Do you have any tips on avoiding that?
Sorry for the lengthy response
thank you so much for this video! its very helpful as I’m thinking of perming my hair soon.
NP! I encourage you to get a perm 😊
Hi! Planning on getting a perm and love how yours turned out:) Wondering what you asked for from your stylist and if you know what rod size she used?
i love how your perm turned out, looks more natural and even like a digital perm. i wanted a digital perm but was told i couldn't and wouldn't take because of old color in my hair. question- did you previously have color/bleach in your hair for this type of regular perm?
My mid to ends had some hair dye in it, but it was done by the same stylist so she was familiar with my hair history
You deserve mo subscribers! omg i love it!
Thank you!!
Its so pretty! I loved it after you washed it also. That is the look that I want on my hair!
Thank you! 😊
Que tal cambio muy bonito resultado de tu cabello, te queda perfecto. Me gusta como te quedo una gran diferencia con las ondas.
What kind of perm is this? Digital I'm guessing. :) Looks amazing!
Thank you! I think she did a regular perm but used bigger rods :)
why are your eyes so sad in the beginning of the video :D :(
The RESULT IS SO BEAUTIFUL
I love your hair!! What type of perm did you ask for? Is this a spiral perm?
Your hair looks beautiful 😍 I want to get perm now😊 I recommend to use Olaplex that helps my hair after chemicals❤
Hi there!! i’m looking into getting a perm possibly just to have more volume and for something different. i was wondering what kind of perm or what size curls you did? it looks amazing btw
Thank you! I got a regular perm with size 13mm (.5in) rods 😊
girl your first wash off day looks GOOD haha
thank you!!
the curly hair suits you so well!
I use a waver for my hair to create those waves or curls like a perm and use the same Paul Mitchell foam, this is a way to create the look without a perm. I really thought about getting a perm but I’ve noticed it’s a lot of work to keep it the way you want it :(
It really is high maintenance :\
Lena, now that it has been almost a year, how does your hair look like? Is this perm permanent?
@@LenaxBasco Thank you for the Update! Straight, wavy or curly-- you're always pretty ! :-) Subbed.
The problem is people think a perm is like a permanent babyliss kind of style... it is not. Once you get a perm you have to learn how to take care of your hair as a curly or wavy hair, which is NOT EASY. This comes from someone who is currently going through a curly hair transition. I hard man
I agree! It's a HUGE commitment
Looked so good after the wash. Better that better.
Do you know what size rods your stylist used?
:) thanks! your hair looks beautifullll btw, really want to get a perm for myself now :’)
thank you! I'm actually not sure if it's cold or hot.. sorry :(
You can get a brush for the shower and when you shampoo brush it then put conditioner
I want a perm as well, when I was little I had super tight curly hair and then as I got older it just became a wavy frizzy poofy mess so I’m hoping I can get my natural hair back 🙂
It looks great after wash. I don't know if all these products are necessary.
Thank you! It's been three months now and I definitely notice the dropping 😭
WOW WOW THE BEST EFFECT
I love your perm! I want one, too, but with a acid wave perm solution (not acid balance, but a true acid one).
So beautiful omg !!!! What is the curl pattern called that you for ?
My stylist used 13mm or .5in rods!
I love it! That's sassy and beautiful!
Thank you!
girl i just got a perm in quarantine and i really didn’t like it but you gave me some confidence 🥺 i wash my hair every other day sometimes 2 and i’ve had the perm about 2 weeks. if you want some straighter more flat hair , try to brush while wet with conditioner starting at he ends. try to stay awake from heat and get trims often 💞 you look great btw
Thank you! I'm sure your perm looks amazing too!
I’m getting a perm on my birthday, in my head I look handsome so I hope it looks the way I want it
I'm sure it'll turn out amazing!
i got my perm yesterday and i don’t know what shampoo i use for Vietnamese hair
love it. now i need one. looks good after the shower too
Thank you!
I loove it! Do u know what size of curl you got?
Thank you! She used 13mm (.5in)
Thank you for updating here and there with time stamps. Not many people do that.
You're welcome 😊
I love the perm on you!
Thank you!
What color rod is that. I usually get purple/white. Is that bigger or smaller? Never saw a Orange like Rod. I like it!!! Please help I got a perm scheduled for April 5., might wanna change rods! Looks really awesome!
Hi! they're orange rods and the sizing is 13mm Japanese size or 0.5 in. Hope this helps!
I like it better after you washed it actually!!
After you washed it, it looked amazing!
what was the name of the salon? i live near la and would love to get a perm!
NananaParena in West LA!
@@LenaxBasco yay was about to ask too! very good job!!
@audrey han did you end up getting one?
So the day after and the second day did your hair seem more straight? I got one Saturday night and the next day after sleeping on it, it was pretty straight. I didn’t put anything on it since you’re not supposed to wet it for 48 hours! I’m worried it didn’t take or it failed!
my perm seemed dull by the 3rd day but it was fine after I washed it!
it’s my second day after my perm and some strands just look straight to me! i hope after i wash ir after 48 hours it’ll be curly
