  • I like infrequent figures. I like armies that are rarely seen. I suppose I just learned from an abusive parenting style (I don't know where, my parents treated me right. Must have been from Gamesworkshop), but Joseon Koreans are like those Mythic Rarity MtG cards on tabletops in the West, so this is the nature documentary exposing the features of the RedBox Korean Heavy Cavalry in a hither-to unseen review on the UA-cam platform. I am David Attenborough but for 1/72 miniature wargaming. I am utterly and completely an 89 year old man in my interests. One could say I am on the frontier for miniature reviews, both in terms of innovation and also being on the border of 'where no one cares'. It's lonely on the edge, as Goth kids would know, but it's also full of wicked style and excellent traditional saenghwang beats. Trum la la la. Trum la la la.
Joseon Heavy Cavalry are plucky, mobile deliverers of extreme violence, fitting in the role of the 'knight' archetype but with a decidedly Asian twist. We continue my video series on the Imjin War by looking at a set in detail. At least SOMEONE is looking out for the Early Modern Asian Wars wargamer but really, if I'm the last hope it's just not looking good in general.

Good to see they're lifting their sculpting game. Bit of flash pruning needed though, by the looks. Were the horses really smaller? Like the Mongol horses?

Yeah RedBox have really improved from the early days, there's a noticeable quality difference from the Korean infantry and the later cavalry for example. Flash is just an unfortunate part of miniature production I suppose, but it wasn't too bad, not as good as Zvezda but I've seen worse. The horses really did feel a little small for the riders, I suppose they were still usable and perhaps horses were smaller historically but I still found the size difference a little visually jarring. I think it's a subjective thing, it depends what kind of look that you want.

Watch the video "Делаем доспехи для князя. Делаем солдатиков". It shows how to make chain mail using Milliput epoxy. I think it's good for creativity.
