When these albums came out, I'd put them on the turntable, put on the headphones and intently listen to Neil adding his touch to everything. In more recent decades since, I've loved watching people pay tribute to the master. Having just stumbled across Adam Johnston, this is hands-down the best covers ever. I actually get goosebumps, like I'm a teenager listening to my headphones again in 1981.
Thanks so much! You are too kind. I did have a ton fun covering Neil. It's been in blood since I was a teenager. I would come home everyday after school put on 2112 and try to learn every lick.
One of the things that stand apart in this cover is the backbeat consistency. Peart was meticulous with every note on his tracks, especially the left hand on the snare drum: he served a consistent solid crack of great tone every back beat. You've taken that tradition into your playing. Well done!
Adam, that was amazing. The tuning of the drums sounded bang on. Excellent quality in the audio mix. I smiled at 8:55 when you looked at the camera, it was like you were saying, I'm nailing this cover. Really well played. Thanks for sharing with us.
What a lively right hand! The muscular main groove, the lightness of the high hat in the verses, the punchy angularity of those impossible tom fills. It's all there. The band were on another plane when they wrote this song. You nailed it. Best Rush drum cover I've seen. A beautiful song, and a stunning performance.
Your welcome. I can imagine. The timing here must be difficult! Im no drummer, but I believe Niel once said this was one of the more challenging tunes. . @@adamjohnston2311
Alex and Geddy need to see this... The wasn't a cover, this was something special. It's hard to watch some musicians play "covers" because they're trying to emulate the original artist... You don't have anything around you that says "RUSH" or any evidence of other musical influences and man you played that as if you wrote it. God Bless you!!!
This was a new challenge to learn this song. It took weeks. 10 minutes long with time changes, drum fills only Neil could come up with and flipping patterns. After a few takes I think I got it. I hope you like it. Enjoy! You bet!
Very impressed. Been playing for years and listening to Rush even longer. I know what it takes to achieve that level of playing. I'm stoked to see such a great cover
This is a man who has mastered his craft but can someone buy him some new sticks? lol The right notes at the right time with the right amount of passionate accents all within the graceful flow of a master martial artist.. well done! One of my favorite Rush songs done with the passion and precision it requires.. You sir are a true musician! ✌️😎👍💕
@@adamjohnston2311 I played 35yrs, self taught and practiced learning albums over and over.. being a seasoned drummer, I recognize hard work and feel each graceful swing at the cymbal way over there.. you deserve accolades. 😉👍
One thing I've noticed Adam, is you have the dance in your stick control. When Neil went back to that old jazz drummer to relearn his playing, you achieved that too. Anyways, you pull off these covers perfectly. This and Hemispheres are 2 of favorite masterpieces.
Thanks for your kind words. And thanks for watching. This tune was crazy hard to learn and cover. For some reason the way Neil approached this tune made it difficult to learn. But fun to pull off.
Fantastic! I've been a drummer for 45 years, and I know just how difficult it is to accurately play the Professor's drum/percussion parts. I can play some of the easier songs, but I can't imagine how much practice it would take to nail this song. 👍🥁
Thanks so much! It took me weeks to re learn this song. Going over every part in the car for weeks and then applying it the repetition on the drums. This was one of the hardest one to pull off.
Absolutely brilliant Adam, as a drummer myself the Camera Eye is one of my favourite tracks from Rush. I can, t quite get it right yet, hope to eventually. You totally nailed it, hats off to you Sir. 👏👍
Thanks so much Christopher! This was one of the hardest songs to learn. Neil’s approach was very different and more complicated then usual on this track.
You are very welcome Adam. May I suggest Far Cry by Rush, again I'm still trying to crack the code on this, (I'm driving my wife nuts). The whole band, but particularly Neil are on fire on this. Keep drumming Captain. 👍
fantastic drumming as usual with your rush covers .I can't hardly figure out the time and dedication required to play a piece like this. so cool to watch and this comes from a guitar player!!
Wow! Thank you for t r he kind words. This song was one of the hardest to learn. Neils approach was different, difficult and a big challenge. Thanks for watching.
This was the one of the best crafted ones! i like your approach, you play economically but you manage to get NEP wibe but with your your own way of drumming and I can tell there's so much practise behind this take. I had to watch every chop, couldn't stop and it was fun. Your kit sound a bit different than Neil's but you get best out of it that it actually fits the purpose of the song perfectly. In short i like your style of drumming, kinda Alan White'y. Waves!

Another fun experience with my amazing drummer husband Adam. 😁
he sure is!
love you're saying this - but indeed an incredible performance.
can you guys adopt me, please?...
The only thing cooler than the fact that Adam would make Neil proud is that he has a wife who supports the endeavor. Cheers to you both.
Absolutely Ridiculous!! 🎶🙌🏻

Cymbal selection is by ear and feel.... perfect. This is a lost art in the web age of ordering.
Thanks so much! You're too kind.
Uh ....I would say, pretty damn close to perfect. Respect
Thanks for watching.
Wow!!! 🤯🤯🤯
The Master would be proud!!!
You're too kind. A super fun song to learn and play.

Wow... A Great Cover of No1 Neil Peart...
The Camera Eye - Adam Johnston Neil Peart 2nd

Big rush fan since my youth. Very well played, and such an amazing song.

Thanks so much David. Glad you liked the cover.
@@adamjohnston2311 and then you only went and played Red Barchetta, my favourite Rush song. Brilliant 👍
That section just after 6 minutes is just, well, drumming at it's best.
Excellent. What impressed me the most was your phrasing, and touch. This is not an easy egg to crack. Nicely done.

SO MANY NEIL CLONES OUT THERE, MANY OF EM GREAT, THEY HIT ALL THE RIGHT NOTES. YOU HIT THEM HARD AND MEAN IT LIKE NEIL DID
Crazy good. A real commitment it is to learn this and nail it like you did.

Thanks so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it.
The Camera Eye.. the track that got me hooked on Rush.. thanks for posting. Love it.!
Bro the crash that you hit at the 1:57 mark hit with so much force right after the fill, excellence, and you killed that shit flawless

You really should get ahold of Alex and Ged, I do believe your channeling the professor, you are amazing, spot on, thank you!!
Awesome work i really like the drum fills neal does in this song
Thanks! This was one of the hardest ones to learn. The fills and approach Neil took on this one was challenging to say the least.
