did mine on a 2011 pain in the ass bottom 14mm bolt. i thought i had a deep well 3/8 drive 14mm and found out i did not. had to go buy one. it worked out. can not hardly find a new one alternator so went with a re build, life time warranty. also the over flo bottle bolt toward the cowl the factory must have dam near welded that one on. bent the bracket a little removing that 10mm bolt. all done hope this one last another 12 years.
There's a tensioner pulley that you pull to loosen the belt. I've found it easiest to take the passenger side wheel off and put a 14mm wrench on the tensioner and pull towards the front of the vehicle. Helps if there's 2 people but you can do it yourself just fine.
@4lifejeph no you don't remove it. Imagine a nut welded to a pulley. When you yank on that nut the pulley moves in such a way to loosen the belt enough to get it off the roller thingy
What a crap video. This guy doesn't share any detail about the belt tensioner, either when removing the belt from the alternator or replacing it on the replacement alternator. The belt tensioner is easily the most challenging part of this job. And he uses an iPhone for a work light. Sheesh.
I can't imagine WHY you did not remove the plastic first, instead of fighting with it . Great video.

3rd alternator 150k miles 😢
nice video-thanks. is that grinding noise I heard when you started the engine the common Toyota VVT gear issue?
I believe so but it’s been so long since I worked on that.
How did he take the belt off???

Do you have to take the bolt out of the tensioner pulley or just use a wrench to lever it and take the belt off?

Roller thingy being...pulley
It took me 3 hours just to putt the belt back on
I have a 2007 RAV4 that needs the alternator replaced should I replace the serpentine belt also?
If it’s the original it wouldn’t hurt to do it being that it’s 14-15 years old.
Great job
