I really enjoy A1 videos. I have a 2006 Rav4. I did not remove fluid. The tension belt was a 19mm and was not as easy to access. The bottom bolt on alternator was a 12 mm and went nuts trying to take off. Unfortunately A1 did not have an alternator available. Next are front brakes and intermediate steering.
I am trying to replace my alternator right now. The bolts holding the old alternator on are stuck. I can't get it loose, any suggestions would be so helpful.
This is why I won't own anything other than Full size American made Trucks pre 2000.( even some of them have way too much electronics) If I have to change an Alternator , I only have to remove THE ALTERNATOR ! And if my Mother did the same , I wouldn't have to go through all this BS . Modern manufacturers are making mechanics RICH !
@@1AAuto Done, 1st time on V6. Alternator came out the engine front, past unclipped but still connected A/C line. V6 Camry video went rear by removing fan shroud ass'y. I drained coolant, removed R/F wheel, splash shield, pipe, idler, engine mount, raised engine at oil pan. R&I alternator rear bracket w/alt halfway out and turned around. Job requires sockets of slightly different lengths at various bolts; nearly rounded the 14mm idler bolt. Maybe the shroud's easier but they've been tough on other cars. Changed thermostat as it was exposed. All in all, still a tight fit. MOTOR flat rate labor time, V6 = 2.3 hrs. 4 cyl. = 0.5 to 0.7. Thanks for posting, YT vids have saved me many times. Yours are well done.
Good video and good work! I want to replace my belt so I have a question. Is this Toyota a 2.5 L 4-cylinder or a 3.5 L V6 engine because i want to know the size for the bolt crank on the 2.5 liters? Thank you
Could it be something in your car that draws excess power? Read the voltage with a voltmeter when running. Belt too tight? Also get your battery tested as well.
Hey guys I just did this job and let me tell you that its IMPOSSIBLE to put the serpentine belt back on from the top. You have to go from underneath the vehicle to do this inorder to finish replacing the alternator or serpentine belt. Step 1: Reinstall new alternator Step 2: Using a 14mm combination wrench (with ratcheting function), put closed end of wrench on the center bolt of tensioner pully (not the top one closest to coolant reservoir) Step 3: Going in a clockwise direction, turn tensioner pully to give you slack all the way. keep going until your behind the bottom left wheel and place the wrench on top of the wheel so you no longer have to hold it. (Trust me you will see what im talking about) Step 4: Fit the serpentine belt around all wheels except the bottom right wheel. Step 5: Put a socket wrench on the BOTTOM LEFT WHEEL NUT Step 6: Turn bottom left wheel and feed the belt onto the bottom right wheel until it snaps itself on. (like putting on a bike chain) THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART! Here's a video with a picture of a diagram displaying the proper alignment for the belt. He also states putting the belt back on by turning the wheels. ua-cam.com/video/1AakUBbs2uY/v-deo.html

Do you have the 3.5 v6?

Thank u Andy! You explain things so well
it will be nice if its the 2.4L or the 3.5L engine on the description
why do you have to drain the coolant?
Exactly what im thinking.. you can just let the coolant reservoir sit to the side

Thanks a lot - Looks fairly easy.
Do you really need to drain the water system completely or just einough to remove the Reserviour?
No, see other videos just flipping the reservoir over with fluid still in it.
Excellent video.. Thank you!
You might want to be more specific as in you are working on a 4 cylinder......3.5L V6 is way different and a very hard job!
Que quito al principio? y que puso minuto 17:35?
2005 doesn't match up to the rest of the Rav4's you have in your list. The third generation is 2006-2012 US or 2006-2016 Japan.
This is for the 4 cylinder RAV4. V6 video next?
+gem anscombe We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

What's the torque spec for the big bolts holding the alternator in?
Is it necessary to disconnect the negative terminal before starting the job?
You better or you could destroy your electrical system if you don't. This so important!
how long is toyota rav4 2015 alternator last ? my alternator is 70k...
My 07 went 170000
More cowbell?

how many years or kms. before changing the alternator?
varies but usually around 130000 miles
06 with 53k mine is dying. about to change out
Auto repairs are so much easier when you have a professional lift. Why are you draining the radiator to replace the alternator?
He is a teacher
Im about to change this FN ALTERNATOR for the 3rd FN ......last time was 5 months ago.....
