    Speaking of obscure trivia: the actor that played Scotty, James Doohan, created the grammatical groundwork for both the Vulcan and Klingon languages and wrote the Vulcan and Klingon dialogue for The Motion Picture.

    Ah, the 'false r*pe accusation' episode. As a Voyager fan, I've got to agree, that one's the worst. Threshold might be goofy but this is the only episode of Voyager that legit makes me angry to the point I always skip it.

      Yeah Treshold's funny bad, this one is competently delivering a morally repugnant message, which is just ... worse, infinitely worse. The writer says she was inspired by recent events regarding the power of suggestion, but could you talk about the subject with anything besides the most under reported and under believed crime, where victims get treated the worst by the media.

    This is one of those episodes where the show is significantly improved if you forget it exists or ignore it.
    I get what they were going for but it was just so clumsily handled that the message is completely lost.

    I'm glad you brought up Satanic ritual abuse but I think you forgot one other thing related to repressed memories that was on everyone's mind in the '90s: alien abduction scenarios. Remember how aliens became associated with "anal probing"? And those resurfaced "memories" were coming from adults.

    Is the Star Trek universe really a post-currency society? I'm pretty sure Star Fleet is a military organization and would be paid for by tax dollars. I mean, in the episode "The Price," Riker and Devinoni were negotiating with the Barzans to purchase rights to the wormhole. How were they gonna buy it without money?

    • @aircraftcarrierwo-class
      @aircraftcarrierwo-class Рік тому +2

      They had credits in TOS but by TNG, the Federation only produces currency insofar as is required to deal with other empires like the Ferengi.
      Effectively infinite resources courtesy of Replicators kinda does that.

    Some other candidates that make me the angriest:
    - That time Archer committed genocide (of course).
    - That time Picard proved willing to let a child on his crew be executed in the interest of diplomacy with a wholly unimportant planet.
    - That time the combined brainpower of everybody on the Enterprise D concocted such a harebrained scheme to relocate some aliens that one of their charges killed themself onboard and nobody anticipated or prevented this.
    - That time Picard continuously reprimanded Riker for defending an alien who’d unequivocally described her systematic persecution and requested asylum-once again due to prioritizing “diplomacy.”
    - That time the entire power grid of Earth, during an active quadrant-quadrant war, was shut down by one command guy getting uppity, establishing Earth as THE softest target in the galaxy because of space socialism.

  • @FrancisR420
    @FrancisR420 Рік тому +7

    "Oh my god I just got to the repressed memory episode of Voyager and wow... That guy totally did it 100% and ending was fucking awful.
    Like I know it was a metaphor for the repressed memory hysteria, but they took the leap to mix it with a clear metaphor for adult abuse accusations And it just does not take.
    Also I feel like TNG did basically the same episode with Diana thinking she got assaulted by riker, But at least the ending of that was like an alien or something not just 'bitches be crazy' like in Voyager
    I just remembered earlier in the episode before seven of nine remembers the assault The doctor says he "wants to make sure it's not a chemical imbalance because of your specific (borg) biology" and I literally said "its cuz she's a woman" Out loud AND IT WAS LITERALLY THAT."
    And then later they do a another repressed memory episode with tuvok and his repressed memory from years ago is totally real."
    I was still salty days later

    There was part of me that wondered if this was going to be about the lizards. I've never seen this episode but holy shit this is like, next level terrible writing. Even if I'd been enjoying Voyager at the time I think I would've stopped watching the entire series after this mess. How would you even trust anything the writers come up with after this?

    go in to the modern trek with normal expectations, its not really as bad as people stay just think discovery S1 and Picard S1 didnt stick the landing, but theres till plenty to like and good stuff to follow. Picard Season 3s worth the first 2 even if it wraps up imperfectly.

    • @joeyshears1483

      Yeah and I actually really like SNW and LWD's and I've heard good things about Prodigy though haven't seen it yet, it is a kids show, but might be good to enjoy with a child relative. Disco's the only one that I haven't really enjoyed at all, but even it's... finnnee, not really my cup of tea or good really, but not as offensive as some fans who go for really low blows about its diversity tend to trumpet. Picard seasons 1-2 are God awful, but season 3 is solid.

    I love Star Trek.. except DS9. I just couldn't get into it, I rank Enterprise above DS9. TNG and Voyager are my go tos. Low key wish Seth MacFarlane's pitch had been picked up for another show, Roddenberry didn't want the association with Family Guy lol The Orville is fantastic though. I want to know why we never saw the green shirt again, one episode in TOS and then, gone. I haven't watched Picard or Discovery yet, either, Enterprise was enough new Trek for me. Voyager had some hit or miss episodes, Neelix is so annoying though lol

      Kes was sweet and innocent, Seven of Nine was hot, point blank. And she had attitude but I thought Janeway was a strong enough lead, Seven of Nine wasn't a bad character, but she did feel like Data mixed with Worf, with tiddies

    Voyager is probably the series that had the most incosistant writing when compared to other trek shows of the first revival era and yes i am included Enterprise cause that had a solid foundation of where it was going and more consistency. Voyager's main problem is that the writers tend to give the crew problems they immediatly shrug off with no consequences or their actions wont matter. it's stand alone actions made a lof the characters seem more flawed and incositent with their personalities.
    This is why Voyager has been getting a bit of bad rep among the newer generation of trek fans and those who had time to reflect on it. While Enterprise was initial seen as bad, more different perspectives have found more love and appreciation of it, especially when compared to how bad the second revival of trek got. Discovery...hoho oh boy if their was ever a flagship show that showed the writers did not really care for the fans as much as as using the fandom to drag them for the money and launch their streaming service, its that. the later trek shows have gotten better. SNW is the best of the live action, Lower Decks is the best of the modern trek, prodigy it was alright, i see it more of as a failed experiment. but picard s1-2 and discovery, yeah those were just cheap cash grabs with no plans like what happened to star wars.
