    I can see why Ford chose to team up with Tesla for charging. Those kWh charge prices are high. My local SuperCharger is only 0.27 cents kWh.

      As much as I want to think that electric charging is cheap now, it will only get more expensive in the future. Sorta like how UBER rides were cheap at first, but got real expensive after rising costs.

      Most most most EV drivers charge at home 90 plus percent of the time… 2.7 cents a KWH overnight…. If I have to over pay at a supercharger once a month… oh well. Still way way way cheaper than gas.

    I did uber with polestar 2 for a week. Every single time I need to charge I have to run around looking for a charger. Either theres a really long line, slow charger, or half of the chargers are not working. There was a time where I started looking for a charger at 20% and couldn’t find any available until I got to 9%. Meanwhile the driving by Tesla supercharging stations, has 3-4x the amount of chargers and only half are in used. This was in the Pasadena, Santa Monica, and WeHo area. So now, I will be receiving my delivery of model Y this Sunday.

    Another great video Chris! You just demonstrated why all of these other automakers are deciding to jump ship and switch over to the Tesla NACS (North American Charging Standard) network. In other parts of the country, there are even less non-Tesla chargers available, which makes owning a non-Tesla EV very difficult if you plan to go long distance with it.
    I think there will be growing pains at first. But with Tesla building and opening so many superchargers, it should be less of an issue over time. Especially if places like apartment complexes build level 2 chargers for their tenants so they have a place to reliably charge at home.

    Their charging network is the #1 reason why I'd still pick a Tesla over all other EVs. I know they're allowing Ford and GM to charge at their stations now, but Electrify America is just so bad. Their chargers bug out A LOT, especially in the cold, and I plan on road-tripping more during the holiday season to save money when that kind of weather is around and plane tickets are stupid expensive.

    I do this exact drive in my Mach E GT. I'll use Oakridge to charge to 100% and start my trip. With the EA membership, charging is $.42/kwh. I can usually make it all the way to Kettleman and charge at EA, or now I have the adapter and can charge at the Tesla stations there too. Never had any issues with the EA at that location, but I just recently tried the Tesla ones and it was a better location with more options for food. From there, it's hit or miss whether I can make it all the way or not to Anaheim. Some times I'll stop at Magic Mountain, there is an EVgo at In and Out. Now that I have my adapter though, my charging stops may change. The adapter doesn't work at Oakridge though which is a shame. My last road trip to/from San Jose to Vegas, I used my adapter and it seemed charging costs were more with Tesla, even though I used the membership with them as well. Still cheaper than my Expedition was for gas, but seemed more expensive than EA.

    • @anthonycastillero3011
      @anthonycastillero3011 3 місяці тому

      Also, the biggest problem I had was cable length. Harris Ranch and Kettleman both had easy spots to charge, but some of the other stops you almost have to touch the charger + take up two spots in order to charge.

    The EA and EVgo stations are quite confusing at best. The high power stations that have dual CCS1 combo dispenser "hoses" is there for redundancy almost akin to a gas pump. You can use one or the other on that "pump", but not both.
    There are some dual CCS1 combo or CCS1 combo/CHAdeMO stations that will dispense power on both connectors at the same time, but the one who is plugged in first has priority of the charging rate and the second one plugged in will get the remaining almost like the v2 Supercharger. However those type of stations are not very common in high traffic areas.
    I just like the elegance of the Tesla Supercharger, just plug in and charge. All of the information you need to know is handled by your car including realtime pricing, stall availability, and if a stall is out of service. There's no clunky apps and no display screen for anyone to vandalize.

      @@EverydayChris not to mention the layout of the station stalls. Many are in a straight line so you have to back up to them. Mercedes has plug and charge at EA which works amazing 95% of the time, but the limited amount of chargers does dictate/restrict our road trips some (mostly taking away some scenic routes up the coast of Cali to Seattle). I have had no problems with EA chargers it just waiting in line or finding one on my routes. The range anxiety has currently stopped my wife from going to an EV. And she is not a Tesla fan.
