@bigbertha8 Pretty soon, this great unknown will be a way of life. I'm ready to step into it. It's only getting better. And who knows, the cars we buy now may be collector's classic items worth a lot of money in the future.
Nice info…I’ve been using EA for a while now and can concur that your info is accurate. In fact I picked up a tip or two that I wasn’t aware of. Thanks.
My first EV charge (Bolt EUV) was at that exact EA station at the Vons in Seal Beach in July 2023. I had about 50% state of charge but wasn't sure if a charge would be successful so I didn't want to let it get any lower. Nine months later, all the charging anxiety I had buying the car is gone. Totally dependent on public charging. Rarely had an issue charging, and where I did, there's another charger not too far away.
Nice training video Eric, one comment is that at 11:35 you said 8 mph of charging which would be quite pathetic. It was 8 mi./min. 😊 Also, thanks for getting the trashcan there. That is a great improvement. I did actually use that station once myself when I was in Irvine, and the one at spectrum was busy as it always is. Walked across the street to the Starbucks while charging.
Thanks! I’m sure that’s not the only time I misspoke, but yes, that’d be pathetic. I actually like that spectrum station- I guess I got lucky the one time I used it.
I rented a Tesla Model 3 and the charging experience was absolutely seamless for a complete newb. Car navigates you to the station. Roll up. Plug in. Done. I'm looking at buying an EV and these other charging situations just seem like such a fucking headache. So many apps and inconsistent chargers. It's just not even close.
Is Electrify America not charging chademo anymore? I cannot figure out how to start a charge for my Nissan Leaf with an EA charger. The charger still says 19 cents per minute. But the app doesn't show a charger to choose. I wonder if I have to use my debit card at the machine to start the charge instead of the app?
EA is still accommodating CHAdeMO, but they are planning on phasing it out in the next few years. I’d try debit, or call customer service; they’re usually responsive.
@@Prodigious1Onetheir app is teeerible honestly that combined with the fact that Chademo is effectively dead in the US likely leads to a lot of Chademo chargers probably being very poorly maintained
I’m not quite sure what their function is other than redundancy- you can either use the touchscreen or those buttons for basic functions like ‘start/stop charge’ or ‘continue’.
I’ve experienced temporary bugs/glitches with PlugShare that resolve either by re-booting the app or my phone, or by waiting a few days for them to fix it. Quite annoying, but it’s part of the public charging game.
Most EV manufacturers recommend charging to 80% for everyday driving to curb long term battery degradation. Some types of battery chemistry and construction allow for deeper charging (>90%) for everyday driving, but none advise allowing your car to sit at 100% without immediately driving. Charging above 80% is usually only recommended for road trips or long commutes where chargers are sparse. I recommend always checking with the specific manufacturer you’re interested in to see their recommendation.
@@goneelectric Are all the charge stations that way = "Guest User" & use a visa? We only see two trips that we would like to take in the Bolt that are out of the range of a full charge. Also can you verify that at a RV 50 amp plugin is the same as a Level 2 charging outlet, they are the same connectors? Up here in PNW I see mostly BLINK chargers. We bought the Bolt for it was affordable & most of our trips are well within an 70% charge & the 2008 AVEO5 is showing its age/miles. We are in our late 70s & love this ride.
How To Charge at Electrify America! = Oh it's Broken, just like the last one, just like almost all of them broken in some way. I've never had any luck with Electrify America. They really need to fix these problems, or people will continue to not buy EVs.
This is not just an EA problem. Agree there is a long way to go before public charging infrastructure is adequate to meet the various needs of EV drivers.
Great video on electrify America. I am with Cennox a national company that does repairs installation and turnkey solutions. I would like to get a hold of you to maybe partner so if you could please respond and we could exchange emails. Thank you. Max my name is Max as well.
Best practice: manually STOP charging BEFORE unplugging via station screen or stop command in app. Don't just yank out connector! Can harm 🚗 AND charge station equipment.
If noticed the charge that was featured here was free of a fee. If I could find an app that would lead me to a free gas station I would defiantly use that app with every fill up.

Have you gotten the update for plug and charge? I had 4 stops from Southern California to the pnw and initializing the charge was easy and flawless.
Unfortunately, mine doesn’t qualify for plug and charge. Glad it’s working for you!
In Oregon my Electrify America 150 kilowatt charger cost me $56 a kilowatt hour
Uhhh holy fuck! 😂
Thank you 🙏

I don’t disagree. Nice to hear you’re thinking EV!
Yeah thats definitely a reason why Ford Rivian GM snd others getting access to the tesla supercharger network is such a big deal

There should be a vending machine at every EV station.

How can I charge my 2023 Bolt EUV with OUT a smart phone?? What EVCSs just take VISA card like a gas station??
You can charge as a “guest user” at EA. You’d use your VISA on the card scanner (as long as it works)

To be fair amenities aren't cheap. There is the one time hardware cost of the can. But now you have to pay someone to empty it an upkeep it.
135 max rate ... 135 kw per hour ? hjow does that translate to 200 mile capacity ?
EVs typically get about 4+ miles per kWh. So 50kWh of charged capacity in 🔋 gets U about 200+mi.
Typical 🔋 sizes on EVs these days: 60-110 kWh
