You could take any of those series 3 pedals, put them in a normal jhs case and charge 230 bucks, and they would go from ok to amazing for 90 percent of the youtube guitar guys.

Oh yeah I am 100% positive this is true. If you put a good sounding lower end pedal into a fancy case and attached a high end name to it, people would instantly like it more. This would make an amazing UA-cam series. I’ve seen one person do it with the boss od1. They put it inside a klon style case.

Excited about the new focus of the show. As far as guests, I would love to see you talk to Jens Larsen - The best Jazz teacher on UA-cam and an all around nice guy. Not many people seem to have him on even though he has over 300K Subs. I would be curious to see him in an interview with your conversation style talking gear and what not. Anyway, that's my vote.

Something about Peavey gear nobody seems to talk about - the 70s/80s BASS amps had the BEST thump and tone of ANY BASS gear built then and now.

I loved my Peavey Classic 30. Never failed me. Sold when I bought my Divided by 13 SJT 10/20…..SJT picked up random radio stations- Peavey never did. The Peavey was my entry into the awesomeness of Tube amps. The SJT launched me into buying and selling amazing boutique amps.
Josh definitely has the best slide tone….I saw the video that CLEARLY demonstrated such fact.

The Revstar is an evolution of the Yamaha SG 1000/2000/3000 which might have been the biggest breakthrough of Japan showing they could make a guitar that could out build American guitars in the 70s and it was a total success, so Yamaha already did what you are wondering about. It was probably the first original Japanese design to really take off and establish them as serious contenders
Santana played them, but they were overall more popular in Europe where the Yamaha SGs were all over the place during the late 70s and 80s, so there actually is a total legacy behind the Revstar, if you are of a certain age, even the Revstar logos date back

    • @fossilmatic

Yep, they have a legacy outside of the States and are referenced to the Cafe racer bike culture. Not referenced to the Southern Rock, roots rock old boys that Fano (for example) is aiming at.

Yamaha had a series of electrics in the 70s and 80s, something between an SG shape with Les Paul dimensions called the SBG series (Santana used them). I think the Revstar is an attempt to come back to the electric market by quoting some aspects of the SBG series in a new package with retro stylings. I like them. Yamaha never puts out an inferior product.

I've been so close to buying a Revstar so many times, but never actually pulled the trigger. I have a Yamaha SA503-TVL (Troy Van Leeuwen signature model) and it's an absolutely incredible guitar. Those p90s in particular are so good. It's easily as good as much higher end Gibsons and other boutique instruments I own that are 3-5x more expensive. I don't know how Revstars compare, but I assume they're similar and likely very undervalued.

I've had a Revstar 502 (P90s) for a couple of years now. Picked it up 2nd hand on Ebay for about half price, it is a killer guitar, and I have always thought they massively underrated since trying one out at the Yamaha store in London, I would have walked out of the store with one had they offered the P90 and Bigsby combo at the time (believe they do now). I did get a new nut and the frets dressed by my tech, who raved about its tone when I collected it. Would like them to be wider appreciated but hey, I can probably pick up another for a bargain price.

I own the Yamaha Revstar RS502T. Very well made guitar... dead straight neck, super comfortable and super low action from the factory. On the used market these are usually a great buy and the P90's is in are really amazing. Not a "light" guitar but lighter than my 2011 Les Paul Jr. IMO hits way above it's price. Unique and I will never sell it. I sold my PRS SE after I got this because the neck shape on the Revstar for me is superior.

I think revstars look great, I've only played one of the cheapest with p90s, but one thing Yamaha should focus on is restyling the pacificas. Something is amiss with the shape and the whole language design. Two of the best sounding guitars I've ever played were yamahas. A mike Stern pacifica and a terrific SG that still haunts me as the best les paul tone I've witnessed first hand. I was shoping for my first real electric in the early 90s and ended up buying a pretty good studio, but had the chance to play that SG and was a beast. Don't know the year, didn't ask for the price, beacuse it looked kinda weird, and knew nothing about yamahas, but, man, that sounded gooood

    Jay Leonard J. RSP20CR.
I just got an RS720B yesterday. The frets definitely need some TLC, but the stock pickups don't sound half bad. The neck is preferable to the Schecter Corsair I sold a few weeks back. A bit beefier. Larger frets. Etc. I don't love that the Bigsby is polished and the rest of the hardware is satin. It's not immediately off-putting, since I'll probably be looking into upgrading hardware and pickups eventually anyway. Bones are good. Seems like a solid foundation.

I got a Revstar 502 (P90 loaded) on the back of Cris Buck's praise of them and that the body was symmetrical enough for me to flip for Left hand playing use.
Fit and finish of the body/neck was great, tuners where kinda what I expected for the price range but work fine for me.
Only thing that bugged me was the push/pull tone knob feels particularly cheap, it can be wobbled, it has no drag to speak of in rotation and feels completely different to the volume knob.
Its knob also sits further from the body in push position than the volume knob (probably 3mm compared to almost touching) it really lets down the feel of an otherwise sound guitar design.
(I filed down the top of the tone control stork to make it sit the same as the vol)
I find mine to be the most resonant guitar I have for passing string vibration to the body/neck and with the P90's being so microphonic it probably adds to the character of the guitar sound.
I would describe it as lively and reactive.
The Revstar covers the whole gambit of glued neck pickup combos found on the big name guitars, all in the same guitar shape.
This makes good sense production wise for a broad range of tonally different guitars, but may not offer a guitar that identifies with those sounds without getting one off the wall and trying it.

Would prefer the wrap around over the trapeze style tail piece. Upgraded the tuners, bridge, nut, and pickups because at it's price point why not? It's a pretty solid guitar before the upgrades, but now it's pretty damn sweet tone machine.

& I think Yamaha has some brand recognition, I don’t think players were uninterested in playing a Yamaha guitar, they were just kinda lukewarm when they saw the revstar models we would get but it only takes one right person to walk in to find the right guitar

That Revstar looks like it competes with Electromatic Jets and PRS SE Mira but the lack of established brand at that price range makes it a tough sell.

I was very excited about the Revstars when they came out but could not find one locally. I finally got to try a couple on a visit to Japan in 2019, including the 502 with the P90s, which I was very keen on. Everything about the spec suited me on paper. Very cool visual design, retro style, build quality seemed good. But the feel and sound left me really underwhelmed. Years ago I had a Yamaha SG1800T which was a very nice guitar (just couldn’t live with a Kohler style term and locking nut set up on a set neck style guitar), so no brand allergy for me. I just felt like it was completely vanilla in character once you got past the styling and actually played it. YMMV.

I don't like Revstars because of the neck shape but Yamaha guitars have always been underrated (didn't hamper Michael Lee Firkins) and great value for money.
