Getting enough plant based protein has been my main goal as a first time vegetarian mom/pregnancy. I’m so glad I have made that my focus for the last 6 months! This video is the first I’ve come across that focuses on this topic is such a straight forward way. Thank you!
Just got diagnosed with fetal growth restriction and told I was at risk for pre-eclampsia. But no one’s told me about how much PROTEIN is a factor in these two things!! going to increase my protein intake, thank you so much for posting this. I love your videos! ❤️
The main problem with eating most animal proteins is that conventional meat processors pump their animals full of growth hormones and gmo grains. It is best to find a responsible, local farmer to get healthy meats from.
I just want to say thank you for all of the advice you've given, im currently 5 months pregnant with my first child and you've really helped me. Thank you! 💕
Quality and well sourced animal protein is by far more bio available and better than plant. You don’t get all amino acids from plant based protein. There’s definitely a place in the diet for plants but it being your main protein source isn’t one of them. Collagen, glycine, choline, iron…these are just a few crucial things pregnant women need and you get that from animal protein.
I wanted to thank you so much for your videos! I absolutely loved my birth, it was pain free and it was so fast! I wasn’t afraid and I felt empowered. All I thought was I am “ built to birth”, I literally watched your videos while I was giving birth!
Having healthy, protein rich snacks helps me get the protein I need as well as cuts the craving for junk food. One of my favorites is protein balls with Oats, honey (and stevia if you want) peanut butter, nuts, dried fruit, ground flaxseed, chia seeds, protien powder ect... whatever you have and sounds good to you! Having these in the fridge or freezer are a huge plus!
In my training I learned tahini is dangerous due to risk of listeria and Salmonella. Do you have research suggesting it's okay? I would love to give my mamas the greenlight to eat hummus, it's such a yummy healthy snack!
Amazing how ive been looking for tips on how to implement protein into my diet to prevent preeclampsia according to my midwife I’m at risk of developing! Thank u so much for making this video and helping us mamas and mamas to be! Xoxo
Gone off beef and lamb. Hard to cook anything then I discovered poaching chicken. Have been struggling from week 7- week 12 which is now. I have mthfr gene and am not tolerating dairy unless its lactose free. First time pregnancy struggles 4:32

PROTEIN! 3 tips: 1) Eat more plant based protein (e.g., beans, edamame, chia seeds, etc.) 2) Never eat “naked” carbs (i.e., eat carbs + proteins together) 3) Have quick access to protein rich foods (e.g., hard boiled eggs, protein shakes, nuts, hummus, Greek yogurt)
Animal protein… there’s no such thing as too much and actually does not lead to obesity. I have kept my weight down from eating carnivore and baby is healthy weight. Animal protein is far better than plant protein
Is hummus safe during pregnancy? I've heard so much conflicting information. Some say it's great because of the chickpeas giving protein but others say there's a risk because of the tahini included. Any advice?
It’s very easy to make your own humus with no tahini added. Actually I’m going to make for myself today as got inspired with a video and definitely do not consume enough protein.
Animal based protein (and fats and micronutrients) are far better quality, and the nutrients are far more bioavailable than those from plants. Plus women need copious amounts of collagen and glycine, found in chuck roasts, pulled pork, meat on the bone, etc. You really need to read Lily Nichols' "Real Food for Pregnancy" and "Real Food for Gestational Diabetes." She is a "Real food" Registeted Dietitian and Nutritionist with a specialization in gestational diabetes. Pregnant women need even more protein than you are recommending. They cannot overdo it on animal protein.
I’m sorry, Bridget, but this wasn’t “sciencey” at all. You threw a bunch of unscientific evidence there, especially when it comes to comparing animal and plant-based proteins. Real science shows that animal protein is complete because of their amino acid profile, which is richer than plant-based protein. In order to reach the same amount of protein from a beef or chicken, you’d have to eat lots of, for example, quinoa, beans, peanuts etc, rising your carbohydrate intake, therefore spiking your insulin more and creating a superávit caloric, increasing weight and fat body. Jesus, high animal protein intake related to obesity? What??? This is insanely wrong, just physiologically wrong. Love your channel, always watching your videos but this one is a huge no for me. Throwing a few links in the bio as evidence isn’t enough because not all researches are the same in terms of reliability. Real science done by unbiased researchers show the opposite, as a researcher myself with a PhD, I am comfortable in making this statement. And in terms of protein consumption, RDA is the minimum intake not the optimal intake, especially because these studies followed an obsolete protocol (nitrogen balance), we need much, much more than this for optimal performance. I don’t speak from hatred or anything, as I said, I think you’re really sweet and well informed, but this one is a big no. To those who really want to understand about protein, Dr Gabrielle Lyon has a terrific scientific channel here.
Agree completely that animal protein (from good sources) needs to be encouraged more. The way the nutrients complement each other in these foods are like nothing else. I love Lily Nichols books/IG; I’ll have to check our Dr Lyon. A 2016 study came out on protein needs in pregnancy and estimates it’s closer to 1.2-1.52 g/kg which is much higher than what I’ve been told to recommend as a clinical dietitian.
Quinoa is such a joke. Long ago in South America, quinoa was used as animal feed to fatten them up. Now that vegetarians will pay big bucks for it, quinoa is suddenly a health food for humans.
Do you have any tips to help your baby move head down? Or do you have a video already up about it?? I'm afraid to have a breech birth as I want to do it naturally. TIA! :)
Not me eating chips watching this at 38 weeks pregnant lol
38 weeks here also! With my bowl of cows milk and crunchy chocolate cereals :D
I pretty much haven't eaten any plant based protein, we eat pro-metabolic and eat tons of animal proteins! My 3rd pregnancy now and thriving as usual.

@Bok Choy I upped my protein after watching this video; babe was born healthy as a horse at 6lbs 2oz!🤷♀️

Couldn’t agree more!
There are vegan proteins that I drink in shakes. Pea protein is great!
Yes yes yes! Eating local is better for everyone!
Not everyone can afford that, do the best you can with what you can afford. Grain fed ground beef is still more healthy than a ramen packet.
I just want to say thank you for all of the advice you've given, im currently 5 months pregnant with my first child and you've really helped me. Thank you! 💕
I'm so happy I found your channel! I'm 33 weeks pregnant and your channel is an absolute goldmine!
Currently 33 weeks pregnant, and wishing I'd had this info sooner! Thank you for your thoughts!
Hemp hearts have 10g protein per 3tbsp and are a superfood! Super easy to add into a shake

My son loves boiled eggs. I eat them nearly everyday. Glad I do.
Hi Bridget, I'm a subscriber from the Philippines. I love your video esp that I have a four month old baby. Thank you!😊
Any tips on getting enough protein when I’m nauseous all day everyday? And extremely constipated😢

Love this ! Protein consumption is vital. Thanks for sharing this food information.

Are there foods that those who are pregnant can’t eat?
I remember being told that I couldn’t eat fish when I was pregnant with my first child.
The diaper bag is sold out, do you have any other recommendations?
Is whey protein powder ok?

I’m wondering this as well!

It is no longer considered safe due to tahini
What’s wrong with Tahiti?
Tahini is not usually pasteurized, and has been linked to many outbreaks of listeria and salmonella.

Literally just not true lol
Agree Lauren! for most it's a struggle to consume 100g of animal protein, it would be even harder to "overdo" it.
Nonsense 🙄
THIS!
Also: pork crackling for the win!
It is true.. as long as the meats are very high quality meats. Grass fed & organic. Preferably localll and humanely raised
Is it allowed to use bcaa during pregnancy as athletes pregnant who use to take it before pregnancy?
Yeaay starting week 30 if I didn't have enough protein for the day i was crashing around 2 pm and needed to sleep and hour and still feeling crummy

Ohhh I would looooove this video!
I just got my ritual protein powder in this week! Any tips on how to make it more palatable than just water.
try using it on banana, strawberry smoothie/ shake. Sprinkle some chea seeds. Chea seeds are full of protein and calcium.
You could try to use plant based/soy/skim/full cream milk if you don't like the taste of protein powder with water ☺️
I thought hummus was no good for pregnant people because of the tahini
Pea protein is crappppppppppp lol
Sorry if I missed it, but shouldn't you say that this video is sponsored?
