Eye mask and ear plugs 10. Hair ties 11. Birth ball 12. Mints/chewing gums for your partner 13. Night light 14. Essential oils 15. Gel nipple pads & lanolin 16. Half of the list could be preferential but def not essential. Also is the hospital in a jungle and the partner can't take a trip to and fro or there ain't any shops around - most hospitals have gift shops and pharmacies. Point is, enough of this hospital bag essential madness. Even of the mom goes empty handed, I am sure she can get the job done.
sarasanic ....most hospitals are not letting you come and go due to covid. Also, it’s extremely beneficial to some to feel prepared and comfortable. You do what feels right for you, and leave the judgement of others behind!
A file holder was useful for me. To help keep all of the paper work and important papers you get during the hospital stay so they don’t end up getting lost.
Extra clothes!!! You never know if you’ll have a longer hospital stay and you’ll want clean clothes each day you’re there. Everyone told us to only bring enough clothes for 2 days but we had a 4 day hospital stay. Very grateful I trusted my gut and packed extra!
Just going to say, as a father to be your videos have really helped me help my wife with all the prep for welcoming our baby into our lives. I try and do as much research as I can so the whole experience isn't so overwhelming for her, and just wanted to let you know I really appreciate your content.
my partner is super supportive if me but because he already has a son, he thinks he knows everything he needs to know about pregnancy, birth, and newborns but I really wish he would go out of his way to learn more about natural birth and what not because I feel like I tell him something new about birth that he didn't know every day.
You totally forgot the Boppy Pillow for nursing! I'm so glad I took mine, it was such a lifesaver. I was beyond exhausted when my little man came out I couldn't see straight and had hardly any strength left in arms. It was perfect to help me hold him in the correct positioning for nursing while being so tired.
I'm 30w pregnant and i waited too long for a traditional birth class. Your videos are helping me so much and helping me not panic for my daughter's arrival in about 10w. Thank you for your videos
My husband found your channel and since then for every question I have I watch only your videos. You are absolutely straight to the point and giving such useful tips !!
bring a blanket and pillow for your support person. the hospital doesn't usually have food or blankets for them and if you're there overnight you'll want them to be comfy too
For the essential oils, dab a cotton ball/pad with it instead of a diffuser for that same reason someone mentioned in the comment (that a nurse may be allergic to smell) but also so if you end up not liking the smell for whatever hormonal reason, it is easy to make disappear or change scent
Baby #4 due in the next three weeks and why am I suddenly so clueless as to what to pack 😂 I watch your videos toward the end of my pregnancies. Super refreshing and a good dose of confidence before the big day.
Your own birthing/delivery gown. Haven’t delivered yet, but already checked with my OB & even with COVID I am allowed to bring & wear my own birthing/delivery gown as long as it allows for them to have as much access as a normal hospital gown. I know I am going to feel so much more comfortable in my own chosen gown versus a standard hospital gown. My OB also suggested one that can open fully in the front so that I can easily have skin to skin contact with my baby as soon as she’s born.
Make sure socks have grips at the bottom to prevent slips. Also be sure that your personal pillow isn’t white so it doesn’t get mixed up with the hospital ones!
Make sure its okay with the nurses before using essential oils. One of our L&D nurses where I work is very allergic to lavender and someone was using it and the nurse had to be moved to a totally different section of labor and delivery and couldnt even go in the room with a different patient 2 days later.
I am planning on using one of those necklaces that you can put essential oils in so I keep it to myself. I work at the hospital I plan to give birth at. We have rules against highly fragranced perfumes and lotions for this exact reason.
@@rebeccavaughn8897 thats insane lol I'd love to know which hospital or insurance you're suggesting gives out free car seats..... that does not happen in the US for sure.

@@winterrrsea1674 By "personal details" I was referring to things like the date or her insurance plan which she probably doesn't want shared on the internet. I really don't know if it was her insurance plan or the hospital itself which got her the free car seat. When I asked my mom about a car seat, she said "The hospital is providing that." And sure enough, my sister was given a car seat when she and baby were released. My suggestion would be to call up the hospital and ask what things will be provided. That way, you will have fewer surprises.
I’m super broke and am finding your videos so useful!!! I’ve tried “watching” some live videos about what to put inside and yet they don’t say anything that goes inside!! And they want you to pay $200+ in another class!!
The most comfortable and easy outfits, post delivery, for the hospital stay , for myself were maxi sun dresses , long cardigans, button down tee shirts or button down Pajama tops, loose hospital scrub pants and flip flops.
I brought my own pillow to my second and it came in handy with positioning. I'm due any day now with my third and I had totally forgotten about that! Tossing it in my bag now :)
Next video....Baby bag please!!! I’m due in 3 weeks and have been watching your videos non stop everyday, I love everything you say and feel comfortable with you
Thanks for mentioning snacks! Three of my babies were born in the evening after the hospital kitchen was closed, and I was soooo hungry! They had things like graham crackers on hand, but it was just not enough! I definitely don’t want to forget snacks this time, especially since I won’t have a birth partner with me.
I give birth within 1:30mins of entering the hospital or less. It’s messy, cos I just need time to throw up, have my water broken or it breaks and push time. Let’s see what happens in this one. I leave within 12hours of giving birth and the nurse comes to my home the next couple of days (I don’t like hospitals and early release is an option we have in Ireland).
Lol i find these long lists funny cause i went to the hospital in pushing phase, my husband carried me from the bed to the car in my gown and all i had was my slippers and a jacket. And honestly didn't even need anything, they give you everything that's actually important.
I agree, you did not need it. Most things on this list are to provide you comfort during all your stages of labor. And as a 3rd time mom, I can attest that they are very helpful. “Important” is a very variable word. I pretty much have packed everything on the list, I just watched this great video to see if I forgot something. In my experience for all the mamas that aren’t getting carried in the hospital while baby’s head is already crowning, I fully support this list.

This is probably pretty excessive honestly but thats coming from someone naturally very minimalist. But from the perspective of someone induced with a preemie told to expect a longer hospital stay, this just still seems excessive. I was there 6 days and packed: breast pump, charging block and 2 cords, 3 nursing tanks, 6 pairs socks, hoodie, sweats, a preemie and a nb outfit, baby hats, car seat and cover, 3 baby bottles, bottle brushes, tooth brush. That was excessive for my 6 day stay, i didnt need the nb outfit, the hats were too big and also they provide them, dont need to bring a tooth brush bc they supply them(and i lost my electric one there), didnt need the bottles because i wasnt pumping anything to save and they give you medela vials, didnt need the hoodie or sweats bc i just wore the same ones i came in with, didnt need the socks bc hospital gives them. Bring a sturdy empty bag for all the free stuff, we used a plastic bag but it was awkward to carry and heavy. Bringing a duffle bag with the next to carry my few things and the free stuff. Dont be afraid to ask for the free stuff, insurance covers it and they throw it away when you leave anyways and they gladly help out with any extras you may need(diapers, formula, wipes, pacis, swaddles, tees, pads and disposable underwear, toiletries etc). I personally left with 6 packs of preemie diapers and 2 preemie swaddles because i only had nb of both on hand at home and my baby was 4lbs. They gave us formula too but we didnt use it bc my baby couldnt drink it, but the pediatrician gave us formula too the first several visits.
I went into false labor last night at 34 weeks and rushed to the hospital. We have nothing packed and just got up and went in the middle of the night. I was in tears because I didn't have a hair tie
I loved the video, it was very helpful. However, can you tell me where you got that background of the world map? Is it wallpaper, a hanging? My fiancé loved it and I would love to get something like this for our bedroom.
Hmm 🤔 interesting, I was induced with my first in 2020 and wasn’t allowed any food/snacks at all during labor. I was given only liquids till I gave birth. My husband felt bad eating our snacks we brought since I couldn’t have any but I told him too anyway:) I felt sooo hungry by the end! 😅that first meal afterwards tasted incredible 😆😋
They can't stop you from eating. It's not illegal for you to eat. If you're starving then sneak a light snack in when the nurse isn't in the room. Smh with these stupid outdated hospital policies. Of course you need calories to fuel yourself for a long labor 🙄
Literally just needed my toothbrush, frida wipes, change of clothes for u n baby. Totally over packed. Glad I packed sandles though cause i arrived on a strecher with no shoes or even pants lol. And it was covid so you couldnt leave to get anything.
Keep in mind first time Mums that it all depends where you are. In USA you pay to give birth and so hospital provides a lot. In UK you need to pack absolutely everything yourself including nappies, pads ect. Also they allow snacks and don't make you starve chewing on ice 😋
@@junglepitts but usually covered with inaurance...even if you pay out of pocket (about $4,000) all this would be included. It ia for me. I am paying out of pocket and it includes the hot tub and a birthing ball and everything in between.
Literally the only things I used were my brush, my hair ties, snacks and water bottle. Though they gave me one there anyway. Plus clothes to go home in. Go ahead and make your partner a list too.
The manufacturer should have directions for sizing in description of product if there are multiple sizes. If it's anything like a regular pilates/yoga ball, which I'm sure it is, then it most likely goes by height. I used to be the manager of a sporting goods store so we sold a lot of exercise balls and that was always the system.
Maybe ask your hospital if there’s anything you shouldn’t/can’t bring. Most if not all hospitals aren’t allowing moms to walk around the unit so house shoes may not be as necessary if you have socks and you’re just walking around your room. Post delivery stays are also being reduced so you may not want to have so many multiples. I’m not really bringing things that are difficult to clean after going home, so if I do take a pillow it will be older ones that we won’t keep and am taking a hard suitcase instead of a cloth duffle
justine thanks that’s what I was thinking too wasn’t sure if my husband would be able to in & out or if we’d be stuck inside the hospital the whole time lol I meet w my new dr next week so I’ll ask
elenkarina1 in Australia it’s the “RiteAid Hydrogel Breast pads” and they are AMAZING!! if you google that it might give you some options available in your country.
Did you go to a hospital that had a lot of students? The two hospitals near me are completely different because one is right by a college ans have alot of students and they rarely allow anything for your own comfort but the other one is really focused on your comfort and dont have many students
Pack the snacks for later, after delivery. You never know when you're going to be hungry and if the kitchen is closed/under staffed you don't want to be stuck with vending machine junk.
I live in the UK and am 36 weeks tomorrow. I've packed my bag, but just wondering if anyone else knows if you need to bring your own Nappies and wipes for the baby? They're taking up so much space in my bag, and was just wondering if it was necessary lol. Thanks in advance
Rachel Leitch you definitely do need to bring your own. Pack a 30 pack and water wipes or cotton wool. Babies first poo is very sticky. Back in the day you didn’t have to but now you definitely do. I had my son almost 3 years ago and I only got the maternity pads free.
In the US most hospitals provide basically everything for baby but not sure about the UK 🤔 I will not be packing anything for baby other than some clothes, a carseat and a few diapers/wipes for when I'm at my mom's after and the trip home. though, if there's a certain brand of anything you want to use then you should probably bring them anyhow.
To the people complaining that this list is excessive... Who cares. Ive seen much longer and more ridiculous lists and this list is pretty basic and reasonable. And anyway, if you over pack, the worst thing that would happen is you have some stuff in your bag that doesn't get used. I've packed my bag and I'm sure there is some stuff that won't get used but better to have it on hand then to not have it and be frustrated later when i want it
Like the other commenter said, midwives are nurses or nurse practitioners trained to deliver babies and provide prenatal care. Doulas are there to provide support for laboring mom's most often those who have a natural unmedicated delivery.
Most hospitals provide blankets, diapers and wipes with enough for you to take home. You can call L&D and ask since they probably aren’t doing tours right now. Really only 1-2 baby outfits for going home because you’ll be changing diapers and doing skin to skin as much as possible.
Do other hospitals actually allow snacks? My hospital only allowed me clear liquids like broth. Went for 38 hours without food with my first because my labor stalled out 😭 I swear pure adrenaline is the only thing that let me push out baby because I was not fueled by any calories.
I'd say check to see what they birth center offers first! Birth centers are definitely more homey so you might not want everything mentioned in this video, but still might want things that will make you most comfortable!
@@gingersnapsbc in my hospital the minute you're hooked into pitocin you're no longer allowed to eat. But if you're induced, you can't eat from midnight the night before. So I didn't eat for over 24 hours.

It's a policy based on outdated practices. You don't have to listen to them unless you know for sure they're about to wheel you in for a C-section. Otherwise they can't stop you from eating your own food
A belly band would not fly in my canadian hospital. They have to keep checking your stomach and pressing on it they dont want to see u wearing any belly band while checking you every 2 hours
Not that I know of. And I would not use anything mineral oil based with chemicals/scents since lanolin is safe for the baby to swallow and unbelievable essential for the nipples against chaping.

When do you recommend we pack our bags?
Definitely before your last month! Or as your going into your last month, start getting things together just in case baby decides to pop early :)
Great video! Would you do a video on your top ten recommendations for good to eat while laboring?
Bring TWO outfits for your baby. I got my 2nd baby dressed, ready to go home, and she had a blowout all over her outfit. 😂
water bottle with me at hospital slippers brith plan relaxing music helps me 😊
Hmm 🤔 interesting, I was induced with my first in 2020 and wasn’t allowed any food/snacks at all during labor. I was given only liquids till I gave birth. My husband felt bad eating our snacks we brought since I couldn’t have any but I told him too anyway:)
I felt sooo hungry by the end!
Oh my gosh I love the map on your wall.. beautiful
Also the hospital provides a lot for you. Don’t overdue it.
First!, Thanks for these videos!! Secondly, can you please tell me where you got that wall map. I want one for the nursery
Random question but I love your wallpaper. Can you tell me where you got it? Thanks 😊 it’s beautiful, I love your deco style. 😍
This is very helpful, thank you!
Love your channel! May I ask where you got your mural on your wall?
Literally just needed my toothbrush, frida wipes, change of clothes for u n baby. Totally over packed. Glad I packed sandles though cause i arrived on a strecher with no shoes or even pants lol. And it was covid so you couldnt leave to get anything.
This was awsome, thank you so much 🤰❤️🥰
Would i still need all of these if i am
Planning on laboring at home for as long as possible?
Keep in mind first time Mums that it all depends where you are. In USA you pay to give birth and so hospital provides a lot. In UK you need to pack absolutely everything yourself including nappies, pads ect. Also they allow snacks and don't make you starve chewing on ice 😋
The usa may provide lots but they charge us for it, sadly.
@@junglepitts but usually covered with inaurance...even if you pay out of pocket (about $4,000) all this would be included. It ia for me. I am paying out of pocket and it includes the hot tub and a birthing ball and everything in between.
In the UK they provide us with almost everything x
Do you have any recommendations for belly bands?
Where is the gel pads link ? I liked your list my number one is chapstick
It is in the description of the video. - amzn.to/2I7xf1T
Can you link to a bag that can fit all of this stuff?
Dont forget the baby carseat!!!
Literally the only things I used were my brush, my hair ties, snacks and water bottle. Though they gave me one there anyway.
Plus clothes to go home in.
Go ahead and make your partner a list too.
What size do I get for the birthing ball there are many sizes. Please help.
With the virus going on is it still ideal to bring anything from home as far as a hospital bag?
Maybe ask your hospital if there’s anything you shouldn’t/can’t bring. Most if not all hospitals aren’t allowing moms to walk around the unit so house shoes may not be as necessary if you have socks and you’re just walking around your room. Post delivery stays are also being reduced so you may not want to have so many multiples. I’m not really bringing things that are difficult to clean after going home, so if I do take a pillow it will be older ones that we won’t keep and am taking a hard suitcase instead of a cloth duffle
My doctor said to keep the bag in the car and once ur moved to ur post labor room THEN u can bring it up
justine thanks that’s what I was thinking too wasn’t sure if my husband would be able to in & out or if we’d be stuck inside the hospital the whole time lol I meet w my new dr next week so I’ll ask
Loveeeee all ur videos 💯 keep em coming!
I am pregnant women I need water bottle with a is satw
Do you still have a link for the gel breast pads?
Thank you! Great list
Should I pack my pregnancy pillow? That’s the only one I use for the last 6 months.
I'm not even in your state. I would love you as my doula!
I couldn't find the link for gel pads
elenkarina1 in Australia it’s the “RiteAid Hydrogel Breast pads” and they are AMAZING!! if you google that it might give you some options available in your country.
I would add a baby album to record the baby’s weight, footprint m, etc
The links in the description are not working to the Amazon store.
The only thing my doctors would allow me to eat were ice and popsicles so I couldn’t bring snacks ..
I’m in the US and haven’t given birth yet but from what I’ve heard they will provide those here. Calm your hospital/ask your doc tho.
super helpful
To the people complaining that this list is excessive... Who cares. Ive seen much longer and more ridiculous lists and this list is pretty basic and reasonable. And anyway, if you over pack, the worst thing that would happen is you have some stuff in your bag that doesn't get used. I've packed my bag and I'm sure there is some stuff that won't get used but better to have it on hand then to not have it and be frustrated later when i want it
This video helped my nerves a lot
I'm so glad!!
Thanks for all the suggestions- very helpful!! What essential oils do you suggest?
Stephanie Chiappetta clary sage, peppermint,lavender
What’s the difference between a doula and a midwife?
A doula helps comfort and support a woman during labor. A midwife delivers the baby and provides prenatal care
Like the other commenter said, midwives are nurses or nurse practitioners trained to deliver babies and provide prenatal care. Doulas are there to provide support for laboring mom's most often those who have a natural unmedicated delivery.
Doulas also provide that support post partum as well ❤
What about for the baby? Don't you need blankets, more clothes, diapers, etc?
Most hospitals provide blankets, diapers and wipes with enough for you to take home. You can call L&D and ask since they probably aren’t doing tours right now. Really only 1-2 baby outfits for going home because you’ll be changing diapers and doing skin to skin as much as possible.
Do other hospitals actually allow snacks? My hospital only allowed me clear liquids like broth. Went for 38 hours without food with my first because my labor stalled out 😭 I swear pure adrenaline is the only thing that let me push out baby because I was not fueled by any calories.
They can't actually stop you 🤷♀️
Thank you for the list! And good tip on the breath mints, I wouldn't want my wife kicking me out lol 😂
What about for a delivery inside a birth center?
I'd say check to see what they birth center offers first! Birth centers are definitely more homey so you might not want everything mentioned in this video, but still might want things that will make you most comfortable!
Cool background.
I've heard that it's better not to use belly bands, because can can interfere the natural healing process and cause more harm than good.
I always read "snacks" but with my son, I was induced and couldn't eat for over 24 hours.
You weren’t allowed to eat? Or just couldn’t eat?
@@gingersnapsbc in my hospital the minute you're hooked into pitocin you're no longer allowed to eat. But if you're induced, you can't eat from midnight the night before. So I didn't eat for over 24 hours.
Ashley Wilson Vick brutal! How did everything go?
@@gingersnapsbc just fine -- this is normal practice for much of the country!
Snacks are nice to have after the baby is born as well. 👌 I've had two babies and both of the times snacks weren't needed during the labour.
What about a car seat?
Water bottle with straw
Snacks dried fruits
Socks for mama slippers
Charger long cord
Push play list(music 🎶)
Lip balm
Own pillow
Eye mask
Ear plugs
Hair ties
Birth ⚽ ball
Mints gums
Night light
Essential oils
Gel nipples pads
Tooth brush
Makup wipes
Nursing bras
Belly band
I'm so confused. My first baby i was told no food or drinks during labour
You forgot one important thing: baby car seat😛 haha
As a vegan, I avoid Lanolin. Is there a vegan alternative?
skinandsenses.com/collections/pregnancy/products/beyond-nipple-soothing-cream-1
Not that I know of. And I would not use anything mineral oil based with chemicals/scents since lanolin is safe for the baby to swallow and unbelievable essential for the nipples against chaping.
