Just don't understand how anyone could kill a child. I have chronic pain most days, but listening to your show helps to keep my mind occupied. Thanks again from Arkansas! ❤

Yes, the whole thing was so very strange! And you would think a mother who has children would understand about killing a child. That is bad enough but the complete disrespect afterwards is just...sad and sickening. Poor little mite! It crushed his mother who was already unwell.
Thank you for supporting our channel. 🙏So very very sorry to hear of the chronic pain! We are really happy if the channel helps to transport you to another place. We also do stories on our sister channel @chronicleofthetimes... WHAT THE HECK?! It's HORRIBLE enough that Susan murdered poor young John, but to implicate her absent husband AND involve her poor EIGHT YEAR OLD DAUGHTER?! That's SOOOOOO TWISTED!! Goodness knows how much little Janet ACTUALLY WITNESSED?!
I wonder what happened to John Newell and little Janet after Susan's execution?!
Thanks for sharing this horrific yet fascinating story, Robin!! 💞💖👍❤

Thank you Nadia! Yes, super twisted indeed! 😱So the country had just been through war and was recovering and yet, back then as well, the response was not so very different from yours now! The UK very much was leaning away from execution - especially after the war and especially towards women - but there was no question that she would be executed - none whatsoever. We do not know what happened to either Janet or John. Janet we would guess ended up in care, as John was her step-father? Although maybe she ended up back with him? Although she sounded matter of fact at the trial, we would think there would very much have been long term impact on her, nghtmares even. A very tragic case and just brutal. 🪦

Thank you! That is kind! 🙏We know we take a chance when we dip into some of the newer crime stories, but some stories are just too good to pass up. Thank you - really glad you enjoyed! Coming up: on saturday we have written the episode as if you are the juror - a bit different than our usual style. We had a previous episode written from the viewpoint of the serial ikiller as outlined by his letters - so similar to that one but from a jurors viewpoint. Thank you so very much for your support! Much appreciated!🙏

This was a heartbreaking story about a woman who murdered a young boy for finances that really didn't amount to anything significant. I'm thrilled she received the death penalty even though it looked like she was going to get penal servitude. Do you know whatever happened to Susan's husband and young daughter? Great investigating, presenting, backstory, illustrations, photos and videos, as well. Take care 🦋

No, sadly we do not know what happened to John or Janet. John was Janet's stepfather, so we are not sure of Janet ended up with hm or went into care. Neither choice on the surface sounds like it would have been a good choice for her. We can only hope that she did not have nightmares for the rest of her life. 🤞

Hallooo!!!! It's the yank! What heartbreaking story! Poor child, and also the little girl. The lady must have lost her mind temporarily. But what about the husband? Leaving them with nothing! Sad sad story.
By the way, I read a comment about the way you read your stories, someone had the audacity to criticise your delivery! Please ignore these nit pickers! You have a great channel and I would not change a thing. Tallyhoooo!

We so very much appreciate your support American cousin! 🙏I am abundantly aware of my shortcomings in pronunciation of non-english words but - it is all about the story! 📚 The team agreed early on that we would not avoid a good story because of my non-english inability or because of a lack of associated pictures. We carry on! Thank you so very much for your kind comments and kind support!🙏🙋‍♂️

Thank you - glad you enjoyed the show.! We know that some of the newer stories are not always as popular, but this one is just so incredible, we thought we had to do it. We have a Scotland yard case coming up next week, as well as something different! Both tales are rather astonishing! Oh yes - our Serial Killer Saturdays coming up - we have changed things a bit and written it in the style of where you, the listener, are a juror. Thank you as always for your unswerving support! 🙏

@@newsofthetimes I'm intrigued! Normally I would avoid jury duty but I'll be there, you can count on it. Btw, I like the early 1900s, too. After all, a hundred years ago seems historic. Anything before tv reporting, I guess. Enough said. I've enjoyed your chan very much. Thanks.

Susan tried to implicate her husband by coaching Janet to lie. That's really evil. Maybe the stress of becoming homeless with Janet was too much for her to bear. It doesn't change the fact that she murdered a 13 yo child. jmo

As she pleaded insanity, no motive was ever given so the motice of the very little money he had was the one surmised. But yes - blaming the father, coaching the girl and OMG! Floorboard, burning, trussing and having your daughter sit on the corpse - and she knows it is a corpse - to dump like trash! Rather unbelievable. The country at the time was veering away from execution, but there was no question of reprieve for her. 🪦
