Man wow I lost my dad when I was 10 years old and the only memories about my dad are riding with him his 2-wheel and 3-wheel fat tire bikes I had tears dripping down the entire video. Thank you for getting this memory back

The difference is your Dad actually bought the bikes, and was not a propaganda artist taking money from government, (privlidged, he said, right?) to do these human interest vids that do contain communist propaganda. Your Dad was much more likely, a good American citizen, not a tool fool.
Honda Fat cat was my first bike, so much fun and reliable. My dad bought it when he was 16 and I don't think the spark plug has been changed since then. Still runs like a champ to this day
Honda bikes are hard to kill in my experience. I've tried lol. They always started right back up.
I had a friend with a little Honda 50 we found behind a shed during a cookout. the bike was destroyed from being outside for so long and crushed and bent from being run over by a truck. We ended up riding it around his yard, and at some point it transitioned to riding it around the yard pinned at rev limiter because it was spitting sparks and fire out the exhaust, and finally the header pipe was glowing bright red, so we just "kept it going" trading off riders, keeping the throttle pinned till it died.
It didn't die.
Still ran great when we finally gave up... Fired up with no trouble the next day.
I bought mine at 15 it was my first. Was young and dumb and sold it to buy a truck couple years later. Im 35 now and have kicked myself in the butt since the man drove off with it. Tried to find one with no luck. its great to know yours is still running. But it's Honda built like a tank so it will out last everything and then some. I loved that bike

Dad had a Honda Fat Cat when they came out. I enjoyed riding it. used it for getting back in the mountains of TN, riding down rail lines, hunting/fishing.
I have a near mint 1986 BW200. My parents got it for me for Christmas back in 1985. I still ride it today in the yard at least once a week. It’s a beast and will go literally anywhere. As long as you do the regular maintenance, it will last near forever.
Growing up we had 3, 1986 Honda fat cats and I have to say I miss them greatly! They never needed anything except tires and oil changes. We sold them 3 years ago and I regret it
I rode a TW200 for a couple years, basically a street legal version of the BW200. Cool thing is you can still buy them today, virtually unchanged since the 80s. SO this video was special to me :)
I had a TW200. I put street tires on it and different gearing and it would do 80mph. Never should have sold that bike!

I had a Honda FatCat 200 back in the late 80's. We did the big bore 250 conversion on it. That thing would literally go anywhere, comfortably, with ease. It was so fun riding in the deep sand pits in south jersey. Also great bikes for someone that had little experience riding off road.
I go riding in the pits in woodbine and dennis all the time.

I love that Honda reliability. They never die! My dad's 1993 HONDA Fourtrax 350 4X4 is still going strong after all these years. It isn't fast but will always get you to your destination.
Road one as a kid with a buddy that raced SEMI PRO KX 80 1997/98 His dad owned a logging company and made us real super cross moto cross style of tracks and stuff !!THANKS AGAIN FOR LETTING US COME ALONG!!!!!
When I was young in the 80's my dad and some of his friends were killed in a car crash, and one of his friends in the car had a brother who had one like these but it was a Suzuki, a blue and white one. Every year growing up in the summer he would sell ice creams on the beach, still selling them to this day. I always wanted to get one as they make me think of my dad but never seen another one. I think these would probably last forever and go anywhere, so cool. Brilliant video, thanks.

The one with electric start and gold wheels is probably an 86 and the one without electric start and silver wheels is most likely an 85. My parents bought me a brand new 86 when i was 14 and I loved that thing and have great memories of it. That thing would go anywhere and you just couldn't stop it. Sold it in 88 and have missed it every since. It was identical to yours with the gold wheels.
I sold my 1988 Yamaha Big Wheel 80
for 300 bucks in like 1990. I got it as a Christmas present and it was brand new.
only 2 years of riding and still in great condition...I'm pissed I got rid of it for so cheap.

We are still using the TW200 in South Africa for farms. Great little bike, for sandy soil it’s a awesome toy

That price is a steal! These are pure gems. I really miss my 1986 Honda FatCat. It was my first "dirt bike" that I learned to ride on in middle school about 15 years ago. Never should have let that bike go...
My Honds Big Red would easily float with two people. My brother and I floated every pond and stream we had, the rear wheels paddle it forward. It ran flawlessly
Oh for sure, it was common to see one at the beach and them out in the water on a calm day. Now you're not going to get up on PLANE with them lol but yeah, they floated fine.
I always thought deployable paddles on the back wheels would help....🙂
My Dad bought two 87 Fat Cats in 1989. The owner sold them because they could only go 55mph. I have one and my brother now owns the other. Both have OEM storage racks. Great bikes. They don’t fall into and follow the skinny dirt bike ruts and can climb any trail I have attempted. Really great bikes, gotta be worth more than the $350ea my Dad paid.

I remember they were meant for beach/sand riding/racing. Thats how they were portrayed in British 80's Motocross magazines. The fat wheels was to stop them sinking in sand. I saw pics of them being raced at Weston Super-Mare beach race free for all.

These bikes brought back memories of the day I seen the fat tire bikes hit the market….and I was in love! Yes these machines were the greatest trail bikes ever created…period!

My family owned three Fat Cat 200's. We loved them. The platform is solid. I have two refinements, the chain tensioner is way below inferior & secondly when the chain begins to whip due to lack of tension it will quickly wipe the teeth off of the front drive sprocket. We addressed a solution with both a locknut & the factory adjustable tensioner nut. Many years of memories
When I was a kid, back in the early 70's, my Dad built a square framed bike with tractor balloon tires powered by a 5hp briggs engine. That thing would climb the most narly hills and waterfalls. When I was 6 years old I learned how to start it and I would climb on and rock it back and forth (it had a center stand) until it dropped and ride it like a boss. When I wanted to get off I would ride it around the house until my dad came out to catch me since my legs were too short to touch the ground, if I stopped I would tip over :) Oh what great memories with my old man!!
My dads dad had one of these. Keeps it in his garage now a days and still runs perfect. Great memories with that thing.
If my memory serves me. There were 3 factory fat tire bikes made. Honda had the fat cat which was a 200cc motor with an auto clutch transmission.
Yamaha had two different models. The 200 and the 350. The 350 was definitely the fun bike to have. What I liked about Yamaha's bikes was the manual clutch. It was so much easier to pop the front tire over a log on the trail with that clutch lever.
Lastly if you wanted a real bonkers fat tire bike there was a company named missile that made a swing arm and rear hub for the ATC 250r three wheeler that converted it into a fat tire bike. This was a truly wild setup. Two stroke engine and then if you got a 330cc big bore cylinder for the 250r it was just insane.
We bought several of them new back in the 80s to help us on the family farm, we would use them to get cattle up in the pen and to go through and count them, we have a 800 acre farm in Virginia and also lease as much pasture as possible, they were a efficient way of getting around but it took the cattle awhile to get used to them! Brings back memories of me when I was in my early 20s, it's good to see these, we actually still have one left, I don't know if it would run now or not

We have 4 of the 1987 Honda TR200 Fatcats and 3 of the 1985 Yamaha BW200s on our farm for employees to get around. They can go over almost any obstacle and are great for pulling small wagons.
My dad took me to the local Honda dealership in 88 maybe, they had two on the floor and he said we would buy them, I was sooooo excited. I went to school and bragged to all my friends. We didn’t buy them, I was crushed. I may still be having some feelings about it. It would be so cool if they were street legal and I could cruise around town. Awesome find!

I learned to ride dirt bikes on my Yamaha BW. I wasn't a speed demon so the bike was perfect. It would go anywhere and climb any hill I would dare to climb. Thanks for bringing back so many great memories.

Man I had just mentioned these on your live the other day. First bike ever bought at 15 I rode it 20 miles one way on back roads almost every day with a gas can strapped to the back rack. Didn't even think they could be found anymore. Brought back the best memories of my life that I hadn't even remembered. Thanks for that jog down memory lane. Keep up the amazing work.

You can’t kill these bikes man, I’ve ridden the same ones since I was 10, I’m 42 now and I fixed them all 4 up and still ride them weekly. Ask they need was cleaned up carb, new fluids and few other parts here and there and they run perfect, my Fatcat will almost throw you off, I can’t shift quick enough! So much low end grunt. Glad to see others appreciate these bikes. Unfortunately you can’t find any for sale and if you do they want top dollar.
My dad actually raced the BW200 on a dirt circle track, it was a run what you brung race, they passed him in the straights but he caught them in the turns. Oh he raced dirtbikes in his younger years too… My pops was and still is a badass!
They were the ultimate trail boss bikes. They were typically geared lower for torque. People used them for hunting and Rangers used them for trail blazing. Super fun bikes that were sometimes street legal.
Fun to see these fat tire bikes!! I liked the Honda Fat Cat over the Yamaha Big Wheel because they don’t have the two chain jack shaft set up. Much simpler and more trouble free design..
Just was at a vintage atv show and there was a really nice fat cat in the show, DC plastics offer plastics , if the oem stuff is really nice should probably get some aftermarket stuff and save the oem ones. Bw's are probably the coolest thing Yamaha ever made with tires. Great find.
I had a Yamaha BW80 and then a FatCat 200. They were super fun. They didn’t sink in the mud or snow. Very good trail bikes. As a bonus, they didn’t tear up the turf and destroy the yard.
I remember back in the day the kid across the dirt road from my cousins property had one of them 80s 3 wheelers. He would take it across water and we thought he was crazy back then.
Fat tires were one of my favorite bikes to go out and just goof around on. Great memories with these!
I just rebuilt a BW200; they are a ton of fun and go anywhere. I really want to take it out to Moab and see what it can do on the rocks. Maybe next time you visit Matt's Off Road Recovery you could take these along

When it comes to Rocky Trails or Rocky Service Road, just running over rocks in general, I guess it really depends on tires, air pressure, tire ply,s , and I think most importantly whether it's radial or bias Construction.
But I currently have a Honda Big Red 200e 3-wheeler converted to a two wheeler, I run a 25x12x9 to ply radial tire they have a 2 PSI operating pressure but I run them much lower front tire run about 1 PSI in the back tire about a 1.5 PSI these bikes were designed to run on large low pressure balloon tires which gives a nice smooth comfortable ride and most small to medium rocks you don't even feel them being ran over has the tires are supposed to flatten out Squish and flex or whatever they're running over but you just got to you know run a little slower so don't bang up rims and stuff and if you're going to tear it up and just put some more pressure in but the more PSI you add to the tire the less unstable it becomes as far as bouncing and not being able to flex for a smooth comfortable ride
I want one of these so damn bad. Back in the 80's these were virtually non-existent where I lived. When we were growing up everyone had 3 wheelers instead of the Fat Cats or Big Wheels. Trying to find one in my area has been near impossible unless I'm willing to travel to another part of the US.

I have always loved the fat tire dirt bikes but could never could afford one. I’m 51 years old and I’ve had dirt bikes, trikes and 4 wheelers but never one of these. Glad you guys saved them and got them running. You guys rock, keep doing what you guys do. Loves the videos. 👍
Some of the nicest riding trail bikes ever made! If you prefer to sit back and enjoy the ride these things are the Cadillac's of the all terrain bikes! Amazing to find 3 and in such nice condition for their ages! Definitely worth more than you paid for them! If you ever want to sell one please let me know lol.
Funny when you talked about the old 3 wheelers floating. I had a old Honda ATC 90 with those balloon tires when I was 15 and I can confirm they did in fact float. They would sink in about 1/2 way and where difficult to balance but those little paddle ribs on the rear would slowly move you through the water and the front tire would sorta work like a rudder. They where good in mud and snow too since they would just stay on top due to low psi on the ground. Had a ton of fun with that thing.

Had a fat cat growing up and it went through a lot..I think the most fun I had on it was during a blizzard..made it through like a champ
I've ridden the 3 wheeler versions of both the Honda and the Yamaha. They were a ridiculous amount of fun. We used to ride them around a 50+ acre avocado farm in So. Cal. They would pop wheelies, and you could ride them on two wheels. Even got a chance to take them over to the dunes and play with them. I haven't ridden a two wheel version but they must be super fun also. Looking forward to seeing what you do with these...
We have sugar sand in Florida in which you can step to your knees if it's dry and fine enough. Those things were kings. Fat high floatation tires, wide self cleaning knobbies, and early ones had no suspension other than tire pressure.
Sean, My first bike was the same as that BW200 with the gold wheels. As a child it was the best cornfield hopping sand chewing bike I could ever of wanted. I cant wait to see what you have in mind for these. It's awesome that your able to find and rescue them. I have been hunting for one for awhile it is rare.. 800 bucks wow.
I spent years living in Pennsylvania. I never knew Pennsylvanians sky it up so high. I've never seen so much sky between the tires and the ground before. Speechless.
Closest thing to a big wheel I’ve ever ridden is a TW200 and that thing is so much fun to ride even if it isn’t the fastest or the best bike
My dad has an 86 bw200 that we grew up riding. First motorcycle I ever rode! That thing hasn’t ran in years though. I’ve been thinking about pulling it out and fixing it up but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find parts for it. Man this makes me miss that thing.

We had two 1st gen ATC 90s, they float with the rider of to the side, while running. They actually propelled themselves.

Yea the “original” Honda 3-wheeler would float. My cousin had one when we were kids his dad had bought from somebody. We floated it across a small pond. The front tire would float really good but the back end would go down in the water a little. It was so much fun tho. Zero suspension and believe it or not the slick balloon tires actually went pretty good in the mud and snow. I think it was called a Honda 90 the best I can remember. I would love to have one of those fat tire bike they look like so much fun wish they still made them.

My cousin had the bw 200 and my friend had the fat cat and they were fun and u could slide the back tire out and drift around turns better then a regular dirt bike but when u hit deep water instead of cutting through it they would float and fall over
The coleman and equivalent fat tires are really fun out on the ranch. Im saving up for a model with twin rear coiled suspension as well as front forks

Trailmaster MB200 are the closest thing to the old school 80s big tire bikes. Theres actually a big demand for these bikes. treasure them with your lives.

I grew up on Fat-Cats and Honda Big Red 3-wheelers. That was our gaming consoles. Tank of gas seemed to last forever. As an adult I've looked all over for some that haven't been completely trashed. I guess in the south they've all been sunk in the swamp. Awesome video.

I had those when I was a kid. I had the one with the red seat and my brother and sister had slightly newer ones with blue seats. Lots of great memories with them. Mine was a 2 stroke though.

I’ve always said if they would remake this thing with a little bit or suspension and a little more power like a 300 or 350 I don’t think they could keep them on the dealership floor they would sell so fast. I’m 52yo so I grew up in the 80s as a teenager with these. How about this one probably 15 years ago for $500 and have done nothing to it but put gas in it.
Which is a common thing for you boomers to do. "I done bought it and don't do nuthin to it" and then trash it and not appreciate it. That's how all you pre 80's people think. No wonder our country has the problems it does.
My cousin finished the Blackwater 100 on a fatcat. It identified as an atv so he raced with the 3 and 4-wheelers. It was a very respectable finish, like top ten overall.
would love to have one of these bikes. always wanted one growing up but never was old enough to buy one. we did have one of those old three wheelers with the balloon chevron pattern tires on it when i was like 5 yrs old. i think it was like a 90 or 110cc with a 2 speed transmission. fun as heck. dangerous by todays flower child standard but i was running her in the sand dunes at 5.
I had one of these when I was 12-13 years old! Most fun I’ve ever had riding! Looking back I wish I would’ve had the 350 instead of the 200.

Yes the Honda made a few three wheelers that had large flotation tires. Much larger than the normal three wheeler tires. They were only like 200, 225, 250, 300 cc engines. I know from personal experience that they do float. You’re supposed to hang slide your feet off the back behind the three wheeler. With your stomach on the seat and your arms stretched out to the handle bars. It will literally pull you through the water. Mainly used to travel across wet ground like in a swamp, or around lakes and ponds. We would use them in the woods to cross creaks and small pods or swampy areas. They worked really well.

I grew up on a dairy farm, when I was 11 in 86 we got a brand new FatCat. It was desirable because we didn't want ruts in the ground around the farm, so the big tires were perfect!
I miss that bike, I rode the crap out of it, would love to get one to rebuild!
I used to collect ATV magazines all the time to keep up on all the latest and greatest new ATVs. The biggest complaint about the BW 200 was how slow it was. I didnt care still wanted one. Also I did have an ATC 110 and even with the slightly smaller knobby tires it would float even with a small rider on it .

We had old Honda 3 wheelers back in the early 90’s that my pops and his friends would play around with at the local creek. When the cops would come, they would just float them to the other side and keep playing…
I remember when I bought the new 1987 Yama hopper BW200. I was 17 and was happy as a pig in mud and so was my BW200. She wasn’t fast but she loved the mud!
I have fond memories of my mother riding with us on her Fat Cat at Clear Creek in San Benito County. Those were really great times.
When I was considerably younger, I saved up from lawnmowing, snow shoveling, and summer jobs on farms, and bought a new '86 TT225 (somewhat regretted not going for the TT350, or the IT200 that were on each side of it in the showroom, but there was a pretty big jump in $$, at least to a teenage kid trying to buy a bike with his own scratch). One of the places I would take it was a gravel pit not far from our cottage where lots of the local kids would ride. TONS of fun between riding there, in the sawdust at 2 old saw mills. Plus, in the warm weather, most of the snowmobile trails became unofficial dirt bike trails. There was one other city kid who would show up with an '86 or '87 Yamaha BW350. It wasn't as fast as most of the other bikes, nor as nimble. But climbing the 80' sand walls of the gravel pit, or in the very loose sawdust of the old mills, that thing was untouchable. We all needed a fair bit of momentum, but the BW needed so much less in the gravel pit, and it could start from a dead stop in the sawdust without any help from the auxiliary leg thrusters, like all us "skinny fellas" would have to do in order not to burry the back tire. It would also cross 2 very loose, silt bottom water crossings on one trail with almost no fuss at all, where as everyone else would pretty much have to launch off smallish rock jumps that we built on each side and hope to clear the water, or else risk getting very stuck, and experience the uncomfortable feeling of standing in only 10-16" of water, but watching your feet disappear into the silt until the water was to your crotch, and the "ground" had swallowed your legs to your knees while trying to wrestle your bike out. I forget the guy's name unfortunately, but we all had nicknames and because of his bike, his was "Buddy Weird". He claimed the BW was actually pretty decent in snow, and on sand too, though we all switched to snowmobiles when the snow hit, and there really wasn't any beaches, or open sand areas to see the proof of that, but he wasn't a big-talker so I have no reason to disbelieve his claims. Now that I think on it, I only recall seeing him from May to September, so I'm guessing he was only around during cottage season, where as I had family up there, and our cottage was insulated, so we went year 'round. Thanks for knocking the dust off some old, but great memories guys! ...and sorry for all that dust.
Unfortunately kids won't be able to get enough money from side jobs anymore to buy a new bike, everything is so expensive now days, stay strong
Fun trick I learned when I worked for AAA as a battery tech. Vise grips are your friend. Throw some cheap vise grips from harbor freight on the battery bolts and then clamp your jump pack to them. Works great when you don't have room for the clamps

In the late 90s I rode a Honda Fat Cat to the top of a mountain on the Continental Divide in Colorado. It is just West of Monarch Pass. I forgot the mountain's name. It towers over the pass that is 11,500' in elevation. I followed Jeep trail as far as it went and took up game trail to about 50 feet from the peak. The last rocks were just to vertical and I was scared to try them because no one knew where I was in case something went wrong. I scrambled to the summit and found someone had laid a flat rock across two others to make a perfect bench with 360 degree view. Spectacular!! I don't know about flat track because going back downhill, I rolled the front tire on a turn and almost busted my ass. Not a good thing in the middle of nowhere. All in all, that little bike was a hoot and took me on a great adventure without complaining.
I have an '87 BW200, And it rides great on gravel, snow, sand, dirt, etc. Pretty much can handle any terrain.
I have an 87 BW200ES. They didn't get electric start until 1986. Also not all 1986 got the electric start only the ES model. You guys were so lucky to get that deal!!

A few years back a hot rodder said we could use honey in our lawn mower and it would quit burning oil, we tried that out and a couple of yards later it ended up slanging a rod I come to find out that the honey turns to sugar when it hits blow by and gas and it burns your bearings out. And honey already turns the sugar you got to turn the jar upside down to keep it mixed with the honey.
I was born in 1980 and at some point and for a very long time had the dealership brochure for the Yamaha BW. I used to look at it and dream about the day I would have one of these for hours and hours, and to make me want one even more, there were 2 kids with these 1 block away from my childhood home !!!
