Quality of this video is insane. Thank you. Really helped me to decide.
No problem, glad it helped!
So which u bought
I just took out my 9900K out of my gaming PC and used it for a Hackintosh . I replaced it with a 9600K @5GHz and can’t tell the difference for gaming 1440P
Nice! Yeah would make less of a difference at higher resolutions and that thing still goes at 5GHz anyway
It's fine in most games here and now. I'd argue neither of these CPU's are going to hold up well over the next 3-5 years. Both next gen consoles will have an 8C/16T Zen 2 processor, and developers will create games and game engines around those machines. We're also seeing more and more devs use DX12 or Vulkan, and use them more effectively at that.
TL;DR high core and thread counts are going to be required as games start being developed for the new consoles.
@@DrearierSpider1 Idk if high core counts will be required real soon, the original Xbox One and PS4 had 8C/16T CPUs, which also happen to be low-power consumption, lower performance parts in comparison to desktop SKUs like the 3700X. Not all of the console's cores are dedicated towards running the game either, 1-2 are allocated to background operations.
At the very least, I can confidently say current mid-range CPUs (i.e., the R5 3600 and i5 9600K) with 6C will hold up for another two years.
@@dunkmaster1564 The Jaguar CPUs in the current consoles are not 8C/16T. They mimic the bulldozer architecture, which AMD was sued for calling those chips 8 core. While you can argue that is technically accurate, each "core" shares resources with another "core" (such as cache and floating point unit).
Zen 2 is a dramatic improvement in IPC, multithreading, power efficiency, etc.
I had a friend who purchased the 9900k and I own the 9600k. He let me borrow the 9900k and I found that it felt no different. This basically made me feel like 9600k was a really good buy. Honestly I think the only 9th gen chip anyone should but is this chip.(9600k) If you need a workstation pc, a Ryzen 3900x and even the coming 3950x are miles better for productivity.
6 cores vs 8 cores vs 2 resolutions vs multiple settings vs stock & OC.
This isn't your grandma's scaling video 🤘
Fantastic work, Jarrod. Thanks.
Any plans for something like a 6c/6t vs 6c/12t comparison?
Cheers! Yeah I have all the data, just need the time to put it all together into a video, might be a bit though as pretty busy at the moment.
@@JarrodsTech 👌
I was looking for a video on this topic for so long! Thanks!
No problem!
I subbed because you’re the only video I found so far that actually INCLUDES the frame rates for LOW presets. Other videos do a CPU test on ULTRA HIGH with everything maxed which makes the game GPU bound... love it
Welcome to the channel! Yeah I try to test all setting presets in my benchmarks, I've done it less so in recent GPU comparisons because figure it makes sense to test at higher settings that actually utilize the GPU, but yeah for laptops especially I try to differentiate the content by doing all settings, even if it takes much more time haha
Man, difficult to find as valuable comparison vid as yours
Good good job!
Thank you!
This is freaking goldmine research right there!!! A huge thank to you, man!!!
This is the video I was looking for, thanks for the comparison.

I got my i5 9600k for 169.99 on sale last year at Microcenter, as you can tell I’m satisfied
Can you stream on it tho

What about multitask while streaming?

Great video as always, are you planning on reviewing the new zephyrus m?
Thanks, no plans at the moment unfortunately as ASUS do not sell that model in my country so they don't have review units available for me, and I guess I'm not big enough for them to still want to send it from the US.
Hello Jarrod, I have a question about the Y540 you recommend : Does the cooling pad combined to the undervolt help to reduce the overall noise ? Fans go crazy on any game so it's a bit disturbing...
Thanks man
Depends on the cooling pad, as that introduces extra fan noise too. I can't recall, but I think undervolting in CPU only workloads didn't result in the fan getting quite as loud.
A lot of thanks to you to review this, now i can buy i5 and good gpu just for gaming 👌🏼👏🏼
Happy to help!
Overclocking on the i59600k is AMAZING seriously the i59600k is a beast

Hello Jarrod, have you heard of the Lenovo Y7000 SE 2019 edition with GTX 1660 Ti? It's available in Malaysia but can't seem to find any reviews on it. Really in a dilemma on Y7000se, Y540, Dell G5 15 ,MSI GL65 and Nitro 7. 😔
Yes I have, however Lenovo are really hard for me to borrow review units from which is why I had to buy the L340, Y530 and Y540 in the last year myself. I'd like to cover the Y7000 too, but unless they send it, it probably won't happen, unfortunately I can't justify buying every model.
You are on the way to go 120k subs🔥
Yeah few more days to go 😁
Thank you!
No problem!
Can you do a benchmark between the r5 3600, i5-9600k, and i7-9700k for single core games? I haven’t seen anyone do those types of benchmarks and usually only for multi-core games. You could benchmark Rust since its a single core game and has a built in benchmark. Maybe an alternative you could do is run games on a single core through limiting cores with task manager.
Currently trying to decide between these three since most of games I currently play are single core based. I’ve asked around and always get pointed toward the r5 3600 since its “better for gaming in general” or for “cost for performance”, but I’m not looking for that. I’m looking for single core benchmark for games.
Nice video :) Can u make a video about top 5 laptops
Thanks! Yes I'll do a 'best laptops of 2019' soon.
Hey is your 9900k video using the same game settings for the games as this video?
Deciding between a 9700k and a 9900kf to upgrade to from my 9600k for my 2080 super.
The 3900X vs 9900K? Yes I did all test testing at the same time.
This might be an obscure question and situation. But I have an option of each processor. But I can only choose one. I will be using one of the processors in a dual system build. And as a secondary system in the build. The cpu will be mainly used for stream encoding and will run a Minecraft server at the same time as in coding the stream. Which should I choose? I am assuming the 8 core. But for what reasons? Would the 6 core just make it by? And will the power draw make any substantial difference in my monthly power bill?
Jarrod's tech is my new Netflix. Keep it going my man.
Cheers, will do!
do you overclock forcing the constant GHz? No AVX Offset?
Interesting video. So what does the i7 have that the i5 doesn't other then two more cores. In terms of internal instructions sets etc... great video 👍👍
Thanks, I don't think there are differences in that regard as they're from the same generation/architecture. The main difference is the clock speed/core count/cache.
Thanks for the video! I can't find any comparison of i7 4790 to i5 9600k anywhere. Mine is the unpopular 3.6 GHz locked version. Would it be a worthy upgrade for 3440x1440 gaming?
Soner Koca get the i5, the 9th gen i5 is much newer than the i7
Happy to help! Sounds decent for that, but in the end will depend more on what GPU you're using for a higher resolution like that.
hi jarrod. I noticed that many laptop model offer 2 CPU options: core i7 9750H and core i5 9300H. I am just wondering if spending more money on i7 variant will give significant performance boost. Thank
It depends what you're doing in most cases the quad core is fine but the CPU heavy workloads and future games 6 cores or more will be better
So I stream and currently have an i5 8400 would it benefit me to go i5 9600 or i7 9700 for better performance with streaming FPS and multitasking?
Thank you so much for detailed research.
Am planing to buy below Desktop. Pls suggest which one should I go with?
ASUS ROG Strix GL10CS-IN063T | i5-9400F
ASUS ROG Strix GL10CS-IN044T | i7-9700K
Thank you.
Depends what you're using it for and how much CPU power you need?
@@JarrodsTech Thank you for response. For casual gaming and some level of video editing.
A real work and performance analysis between these processors mainly the i5 9600k! But my big question is really knowing how you managed to raise the clock of the i5-9600k to 5Ghz to 1.35 Volts? Because I've tried several times to raise it to 5 GHZ and I couldn't! The most I got was up to 4.9 GHz at 1,344 Volts. Show us the configuration you used to get this result of 5Ghz at 1.35 Volts on a Core I5-9600k?
Some 9600k processor’s simply can and cannot reach that high. More of a luck of the draw. It’s boost rating is at 4.6 anyways
Hey Jarrod I have a budget of 1000$ and I'm confused should I pick a gaming laptop and get the portability advantage or should I put that money into a powerful gaming PC wich one would be the best
It depends entirely on whether you actually need the portability, do you need to take it with you for work/school/travel? If not get the PC for less / more performance.
Right to the point as always. Good work thank you
Cheers!
Perfect test.
I have chance to buy 9900k for a cheap price from a friend but I really don't know if it worth to upgrade before new Ryzen cpus come this summer.
Hmm apart from the 3950X coming in a week or two there won't be much more for a while yet, seems like a good time to buy, all cards are almost on the table.
@@JarrodsTech I still have my 4790k and I don't think I miss too much from gaming standpoint. I mean I can keep my cpu till the new Ryzens will come out this summer. It is what I wanted to ask, do you think it is worth to wait? It was rumored we will see 10% improvement over current lineup.
Thanks for responding.
@@MrVardano good luck on you choice mate, hope you like it!
@@Gargantura cheers mate!
hi jarrod, do you think it's worth upgrading from 9600k to either 9700k or 9900k (i.e., will there be a noticeable difference), if i have a 2080 super and am running COD:MW at 1440p 144hz? also, would the 6cores vs 8 cores make a big difference if i'm trying to listen to music while playing a game?
Hard to say, at higher resolution the CPU matters less, so maybe not that big of a gain as you already have good GPU power, maybe check the resource usage and see if what you have is being smashed.
@@JarrodsTech thanks! MSI afterburner consistently shows around 97-99% GPU usage (and I've got the MSI ventus XS OC version of the 2080 super, so I think the default fan profile is such that it tries to keep the temps below 80C). CPU temps go up to mid-70's during gaming, and I've got a Dark Rock Pro 3 HSF. I average around 100 fps in maps, although some maps seem like they have more going on in the graphics dept., so fps may drop down to around 70-ish or so.. although I think I've yet to see a dip below 60. I don't cap the fps though, so would love to maintain the high fps at 2k, given my monitor goes up to 150 (I've overclocked it from 144 -> 150). just trying to figure out whether a jump to the 9700k or 9900k is worth it. also, I have a 80 plus platinum PSU that's rated at 750w.. wondering if I upgrade the CPU, if i'd need to upgrade the PSU as well (if so, that would kind of be a deterrent for me..)
With the recent release of the 3950X, I'd love to see a similarly done vid.
Thanks!
Me too! I just need to get my hands on the 3900X to do refreshed testing.
So im wanting to play games like Metro Exodus, what would you say is better for me out of the two?
man, you are just awesome, that's all
Cheers!
So I picked 9700K for my 1080p144hz gaming rig before watching this video. I'm smart.
Cool hope it goes well!
Thank you for the amazing content and sorry to comment on a completely unrelated video but I need your help.
I have a full budget of 2000usd stritched max to 2250usd
I need a thin and light laptop (for school and gaming rtx and i7-9750h) a mouse a keyboard a pair of headphones a track pad and a back bag
I'm really into Razer's last edition 15 9th gen processors with 2060 rtx but the best price I could find is 1900usd
I searched more and the best choice I could find is the Triton 500 9th gen rtx 2060. but I got lost between the pt515-51-73eg and the pt515-51-75ph and I couldn't know why there's 200usd difference in price.
I'm not a very knowledgeable so I need your help with what laptop should I buy and if you have recommendations other than these 2 I mentioned plus please recommend very good peripheral. Thank you
Personally for thin I'd look at the Eluktronics MAG-15 in the US, maybe the Gigabyte Aero 15, Blade is nice but yeah definitely paying a premium there. Triton is ok if you don't mind the upside down motherboard.
I just have one doubt, portability aside which would last longer and will have lower maintenance - Desktop or Laptop?
I'd expect either to last a long time as long as they are treated well. I guess generally if a desktop has issues it's typically easier to swap out a part and troubleshoot or fix it due to increased modularity.
How is the 9700K compared to 9900K regarding temps? Running both 4.6 Ghz is the 9700K cooler than the 9900K by a significant amount or its just a few C cooler which is negligible?
You could check my 9900K vs 3900X video to get the temps as I did the same test in same conditions to get it, can't recall off the top of my head and don't have time to review the video just now sorry.
Can you make a top 10 laptops for gaming, that would be great
Yeah I usually do a video like that closer to the end of the year, there are just a few more models I need to finish up covering so that I don't miss them from that.
How many years can each of these get for gaming (and maybe the i9 for comparison)? Asking at the end of Q1 2020, just 2 days before Q2.
Honestly no idea, depends on the games that come out, other hardware, settings used etc, I can't imagine either of these becoming irrelevant for a few years in games.
I have a question. Whether to buy 5 9600k or i 5 9600 kf for rtx 2070
I don't speak english why is fantastic. Great Job and comparison!
Thanks!
How did you manage to get the i7 to 5.1GHz at only 1.35v?? You must have some really good chips, mine handles 5Ghz at like 1.37 and 5.1 is at like 1.39
Luck I guess, not all that different, maybe better cooling too depends what you have there.
If you're looking to stream games will the 9700 be significantly better than the 9600 or is it not that big of a difference to be worth the extra money? How well would the 9600 do for streaming?
I haven't got any experience streaming so it's difficult for me to say, I'd expect the extra cores to be beneficial but that said my guess is the 9600K probably still does alright, especially if you offload some processing to GPU with say NVENC.
So would you recommend i5 and rtx 2070 super gpu or i7 and 2060 super for gaming can't afford the i7 with rtx 2070 Super so have to decide if it's the better processor or gpu you would recommend any help would be much appreciated
I'd probably get the i5 and 2070 personally and just run at higher settings/res so the CPU matters less.
Im using a rx5700xt with a ryzen 7 1700 i am switching to intel i can pick up the i5 9600kf for 165€ and a i7 9700k for 220€ is it worth the extra €50 if ur only gaming ?
Get this man 10M subs!!!
Haha maybe some day!
I have a i5-4460, which one of the cpus would work good alongside a GTX 1660 6GB?
Either, depends how much CPU performance you need.
Got an i5 9600k with a radeon rx580 and 16gb of ram. I saw this video and should of went for the i7 but I think I'm ok right? I do audio production and video editing and some gaming.
@Kn1GhtM41Re is i7-9700k a bottleneck for a rtx 2060?
Hey guys!
I'm gonna buy the GA502 this Christmas so my question is that upgrading the wifi card on the Zypherus GA502DU will void the warranty or not?
To be honest, I'm not sure, if in doubt best thing to do is contact their support and just ask, it could vary by country so it's hard to say.
@@JarrodsTech okay thanks mate
I've got a 9600kf factory oc paired with my 2080 super and there's no noticeable bottleneck in any game that I play in 1440p. I'd recommend the 9700k(f) only if you got other cpu heavy tasks or if you have a rtx 2080 ti or better graphics, though you may no need it for 4k either.
Yeah at higher resolutions the CPU definitely becomes less and less important.
I choose a processor for the compact mini ITX workstation with cooling CRYORIG C7 cupper in the Sentry 2.0 case, which is better than the i9-9700 or i9-9900 without hyper trading. (The prospect of having an extra 8 threads in stock if I really need it seems tempting)
Or maybe the cooling in the form of CRYORIG C7 Cu in the Sentry 2.0 case will not be able to cope with the i9-9900k without hyper trading or i7-9700k in stock and it is better to take the i5-9600k?
In fact, you can render using the GPU (2080ti) and maybe the i5-9600k will be enough for comfortable work.
Depends what you're using it for, but yeah the extra cores from the 9900 would probably be an advantage in most cases especially multicore workloads. I don't have much experience with cooling in SFF so hard for me to say, maybe check out the Optimum Tech channel, he does a lot of thermal testing on SFF cases: ua-cam.com/channels/RYOj4DmyxhBVrdvbsUwmAA.html
@@JarrodsTech Thanks! This will help me with my choice)
Hello! Do you think that the 9600k will last 4-5 years just for gaming from now on?
My guess is a solid probably but who knows, if you play games at higher settings and have a good GPU or use higher resolution to push more load to the GPU it could last quite some time.
@@JarrodsTech I plan on making a build with i5 9600k and an rtx 2060 and play @ 1080p

I own one, but this video was specifically to compare these two chips. I want to do an 8700k vs 9600k and 8700k vs 9700k in the future, but to be honest these videos usually do pretty poorly and they take a lot of work to make so I might not bother.
can you tell me which is better i5-9600k or i7-9750H. I know one is desktop and one in laptop version but that's the only reason is to why I'm wondering which is more powerful.
9600K can run with much higher power limit and better cooling due to not being in a laptop, plus can be overclocked, but that said even at 5.1GHz it struggles to hit 3000 points in Cinebench R20, and the 9750H can do that with an undervolt, so it's pretty close.

5.1 Ghz as base clock? After overclock
can I interpret the result as "if the size of the map is bigger, i7 works better"?
Thinking right now if i should upgrade my OC 9600k for an eight core. Worrying if the upcoming Flight sim 2020 , Cyberpunk and Valhalla will make use of more than 6 cores and i will have a performance deficite... what u guys think?
Hmmmm, maybe wait and see how they perform then decide I guess? Unless it does need an upgrade, then it might be harder to buy 9th gen if everyone else wants to upgrade too, especially if they stop selling it when 10th gen launches in a few weeks.
Jarrod'sTech an option would be an upgrade to the 9700KF because 10th gen requires z490 chipset. So basically i could also wait for ryzen 4000 and buy an am4 motherboard. Do you know a good indicator for a cpu or gpu bottleneck?
I just upgraded my i5 9600k to a i7 9700k because I didn't want to buy a new motherboard for the new rebrand.. I mean 10th gen processors. The i7 9700k is the red headed step child of Intel now because of hyper threading. That made the price point perfect to get a 8 core 9700k ,a basically 10th gen level CPU, and sell my i5 9600k to offset the cost and keep my motherboard. I will also honestly confirm I did notice that my gaming PC is smoother with the 9700k than it was with the 9600k. I didn't think I would notice a difference but there is a small performance boost noticable across the board.
i prefer my 8700k @4.8ghz all cores over both. its only 30 dollars more for 12 threads. Less physical cores than the 9700k but the thread count makes the difference, great for gaming and productivity.
Yeah I still use mine at 5.1 for my GPU testing.
@@JarrodsTech unfortunately mine becomes unstable at 5ghz and tends to run hotter than most, i didnt win the silicon lottery with mine, and i run a smallish noctua nhu9 cooler on it in a micro ATX case. Temps hover around 80c at full load for me, a buddy of mine has his a 5.1ghz with the same cooler and it runs lower temps in an even smaller case.
Can you suggest some me some gaming laptops for 850-970£ UK?
I don't know, maybe Dell G3/Acer Nitro 5/Lenovo Y540.
Sir, please do a comparision to zenbook pro duo (i9 rtx2060) vs macbook pro (i9 5500M 8gb Vram)
I have no way of getting a macbook, so can't make that happen, sorry. They cost too much in my country for me to buy just for a video, and Apple don't care about small channels like mine.
cinebench R20 i think its supposed to be cinebench R15 and vice versa
Holy shit 5.1 ghz !! I have mine stock 3.6 right now haha
3.6GHz is the base clock, the all core turbo boost is 4.6GHz so you're probably hitting that without any issues.
which is better core i7 9750h with gtx 1650 4gb or rayzen 7 3750h with gtx 1660ti 6gb for gaming and programming for laptop???
I answered your other comment
pls review alienware m17 r2 with I7-9750h and RTX 2070
I've been trying to get it for months but they won't send it.
I just upgraded from a i5 2500k to a i5 9600k... The difference is massive
Did you receive the msi alpha 15 yet?
does throttlestop work with Ryzen mobile? If it work it can boost the TDP cause 35w seems the bottleneck
@@waifuhunter9815 could be a power delivery issue. mobo or power supply might not be able to handle more
Not yet, they are meant to be sending it today though so it might arrive early next week. Throttlestop does not work with Ryzen mobile as far as I know.
@@JarrodsTech the msi alpha 15 really had a disappointing performance against GTX 1650.
I've already convinced myself I don;t need a 9900k... now you're convincing me that I don;t need a 9700k either. Really not sure what to do but will probably go with the i7 as I have budget.
Fair enough!
What cpu did u go for now? Did you decide something entirely different?
I want to stream some games and I have 2 screens and maybe I’ll do editing should I take i5 9600 ? I will play at 1080p and 144 frames
Asking the same question, some say yes some say no🤷♀️
I have a 9600k and I use it for streaming and gaming its absolutely fine
@@thealien_ali3382 thanks, been asking for months, do overlooking it, makes it better?

is i7 9700f good for gaming ??
please answer, thanks
Yes.
@@JarrodsTech or choose 9600K ?? only for gaming future proof ,
Why is description gon? In every video
What do you mean? The description is there for me.
I would choose the I7-9700K if I was building a PC right now. It is true that the I5-9600K is good enough for most 1080p gaming. But at the rate at which AMD has been increasing core count and thread count, I would feel more at ease paying the extra money for 2 more cores. Look at the I5-2500K and I7-2600k now. Yeah they are both getting long in the tooth, but the I7-2600K is still somewhat relevant in modern games whereas the I5-2500K is prone to stuttering.
Yeah I'd go for the extra cores too.
Is the i5-9600K good enough to stream lol and csgo? Cuz my i5 6500 cant handle it
Definitely.
i really wanna see the new 16’ MacBook from you Jarrod😬
Sounds fun, but I have no way of getting one. I'm way too small for apple to care about, and it costs way too much for me to buy it and make return on investment with so many large channels already covering it
@@JarrodsTech You're growing quickly, keep it up!
Should i move from a i5 4460 to the i5 9600k ?
That would be a pretty nice upgrade, depends if you need the extra cores though with the 9700k.
I'm wondering should I upgrade from 6700k oc to either one of these. Mostly gaming with 2080s or is it even worth it to upgrade.
Depends if what you're currently experiencing isn't cutting it anymore in the games you play with the settings you use/resolution in use.
@@JarrodsTech That's the thing what I'm thinking. I have 1440p 144-165hz, but still I'm kind of good with most games. But there's good deals with 9600k. But the downsite is that I also need new motherboard, so it can get a little expensive to upgrade.
Please make video for Laptops' perfomence comparison of red dead redemption 2
Maybe when the game is less buggy.
Okay thanks I'm waiting
For me 9700k is completly unworthty. I won't pay twice as much money (in my country) just to have 10-20 FPS more in games where new RTX cards can easily run newest games on ~80FPS worst. Picked the 9600k.
Yeah fair enough, I get that!
Does that mean if you play a game that uses lots of threads on a 9700K, and your RGB software or Windows Update decides to have a lulz at you, you only get the 9600K performance
lol, but what if your 9600k system does the same thing 😎
@@JarrodsTech Then it performs like a 2600K? hee it was a genuine question though, how much do background programs cut your gaming performance by if you don’t have that many threads!
Not sure, that's why I test with a clean system with minimal background tasks going to rule it out as being an issue for the purposes of my comparison.
I can get a 9700k for $300 at my local Microcenter, but will be going with a 3700X for around the same price. Thread deficient CPU's never hold up well in the long term (look at 4C/4T CPU's vs 4C/8T CPU's).
Nice, yeah exactly, agree completely 👍
Yeah 3700x is a better choice than the 9700k. More cores more future proof. As those 4c4t and 4c8t cpu are starting to show their age.
if you care about gaming first the 9700k should be your decision
those are core deficient CPUs ಠ_ಠ
