    How does AMD’s new Ryzen 5 3600 CPU compare against Intel’s i5-9600K? I’ve benchmarked games at 1080p and 1440p resolutions to show you the gaming differences, both at stock settings and while overclocked.
    I’ve also tested a number of other applications including rendering and video editing software suites like Adobe Premiere. We’ll also compare temperatures and power draw to help you decide which CPU is worth it for you.

    Please note in the graphs at 19:37 the total price is listed as $240 for a 9600K with cooler, this is a mistake and should be $290 like the graphs before it, the dollar per frame value is correct however.

      Well as much as i agree the 2080Ti to reduce GPU bottle neck is important, i'm puzzled why no reviewer seems to double check with an AMD card. Same thing with Threadripper where Threadripper results were skewed due to a bug in the Nvidia drivers which was fixed months later.

      @@Astravall The highest AMD graphics I own is a RX 580, would be pretty pointless to test. The 2080 Ti is the best at the moment, I was willing to buy the best just to do these CPU channels. If AMD ever have the best available, I will happily change, I don't care one way or the other what company makes it.

      At Microcenter both CPUs are same price, $199. Bought with a motherboard bundle and it's even cheaper. A hyper 212 evo does very well at cooling the i5-9600k as well, which is usually anywhere from from 25-40$. Just to spread the word... I'm a HUGE supporter of the 9600k for gaming.

    I just upgraded my two gaming PCs with the 3600 and gaming is so much smoother and faster than my old 1600 and 1700x. I used to get FPS drops, with gpu usage staying low indicating a CPU bottleneck, especially in ubisoft games like AC Origins/Odyssey and now with the 3600 they are locked at 60 fps nearly all the time. Now when the FPS dips below 60 the GPU usage is 99 i know its because of the GPU and not the CPU.

      Shadow of the tomb raider as well. 50 FPS locked at ultra.
      Games like metro exodus and far cry new dawn also play at ultra but 60 FPS locked.

    I have selfbuild desktop of which 9600K (at (+/-)5.2 GHz) & 2080Ti (with +/-150 MHz@core and 1000 MHz@memory overclock's) are rammed on MAXIMUS XI GENE. Parts were chosen a while back: before started to see articles about 8 or more cores optimized games. It still seems to be working properly on gaming at 100 Hz with 3440 x 1440 resolution though, but only if temp files deleted and all programs closed on background. Both CPU & GPU also having their own cooling circulation, but as XI GENE is mATX there's room for pumps etc 15x 120mm fans inside the case.
    Although FPS is (still) amazing, I believe it's about to change when more and more new AAA games are optimized to utilize over 6 cores.
    It's not a bad CPU generally for gaming (and works wonders in games I normally avoid) with it's 6 cores and threads, as it overclocks so well. I doubt it would OC with 12 threads without too much heat and so small cache (L3 being only 9MBytes)
    5.35GHz is when my equipment threw it's hands up but I'm sure it would stay stable at 5.5 GHz with correct equipment. But I've always had Intel it has sort of become a religion for me, with its own savior that created my faith on the brand and stuff but starting to run out of excuses to not denounce "the religion" soon...
    ...Even though the new threadripper with 64 cores/128 threads costs some $3 500 so it's not spreading widely enough for game manufacturers to begin optimizing games to utilize for like, 50 cores...
    (The savior is obviously my about 6 years old i7-5960X that's still perfectly capable of throwing frames at 100Hz 1440p even after it's been OC'd to 4.5 GHz ((basic 3 GHz + 1.5 GHz OC, or 50% CPU basic clock increase!)) for 6 years soon. That heroic and stable little genius CPU also been on the liquid nitrogen boarding aka LN2 torture on several occasions in the past, as being tested by the machine God, so if there's slight dementia it only becomes martyrdom... 😅)

    It's funny that people keep crying about "Intel always breaking its TDP", but when 65w TDP Ryzen draws 20w more than 95w TDP Intel CPU (obv stock vs stock), they say nothing.
    (I know that TDP isn't even supposed to indicate the maximum power draw, and that the 3600 is way more efficient).

      ryzen tdp rating at boost clock while intel rating at base clock (info from ltt/hardware unboxed . i forget which 1)

      @Fubo777 5 років тому

      @@burgerlicious1727 Ryzen's TDP is clearly not at boost clock. Look at Gamers Nexus' R5 3600 review. They measured power draw numbers straight from the EPS12v connector, so it's only CPU draw.
      The 65w 3600 draws 79.2w at stock in Blender, which is 21.6w more than the power draw of 95w 8600k's 57.6w.
      Similar story with other Ryzen CPUs, 65w TDP R7 3700x draws 87w (4.2w less than 95w 9900k, which draws 91.2w).
      105w TDP 3900x draws 147.6w too.

      Yeah, for 1080p 240Hz it might actually be better to go Intel, but for literally anything else the ryzen 5 works well. Even then, if you're getting 260fps on Intel and 240fps on AMD, and your screen only hits 240Hz, there's no difference in gameplay, and zen is cheaper too.

    • @metabase9666
      @metabase9666 5 років тому +1

      I think you should be fine with an r5 but if you're going as far as a 2080ti i think you might as well go all the way to an r7. Do keep in mind though that the new 3000 series are meant to be used on the new x570 mdb's, which are somewhat costly. You can get away with an b450 or something as long as you upgrade the bios, but due to the higher power pulled by the cpu in comparison to the "old" 2k models, this might effect the lifespan of the board. This is probably less of a problem on the r5 3k's then the r7 3k's, but of this i'm not 100% sure.

    Good review. A few interesting Points: Don`t know about the prices where you live, but translated to USD the cheapest combo you can get With the 3600 beats the 9600K by a large margin where I live. Most A320-boards have now gotten BIOSes that supports the 3600 and it runs without throttling on the ones I have seen, ram-OC Works fine aswell, for instance running 3733cl18 micron-ram on a Asus A320m-K worked fine in a video I saw. The absolute cheapest Z390-board that really supports good OC (Gigabyte Z390UD) where I live costs 150 USD where I live, decent cooler about 50USD, and the 9600K costs 270USD so 470USD for the Whole package With OC-potential up to about 5GHz. The cheapest A320 Board cost 60USD, 3600 cost 240USD so a total of 300 vs 470USD With about 5% higher gamingperformance since the setups I chose performs very similar to a X570-board. You can make the 9600K a lot cheaper With a B360 for 80USD, a 20USD cooler, but there is no overclocking and ram is Limited to running max 2666 (you can tweak timings, but compared to higher speed it provides Limited gains. The absolute cheapest I can go where I live is about 370USD and then the performance of the 3600 is better due to no OC and slow ram. In my point of view the 3600 is extremely impressive for it`s price and Intel has nothing even Close in terms of performance vs price :)

Man, this cheap MB and the 3600X really ran like clockwork with a pair of Predator RAM at 3600Mhz. I would have never believed how far you can go with just a small amount of cash now that AMD has stepped in and challenged Intel! Honestly for about $350 you can go a loooong way with regards to gaming nowadays.

  • @hgwhgx5188
    @hgwhgx5188 4 роки тому

    Great test. There is difficult to find hardware comparison in aps, not only games!
    I'm working with vector graphic aps, like Adobe illustrator, or CAD's. The aps uses single thread for 95% operations. But it is hard to find single thread CPU tests.
    On cpubenchmark . net I found also single thread scores. But I'm not sure about they testing method. R5-3600 and other R have very high rating. 3600 has 2813 points and i5-9600K has 2680 points.
    You should use 3600X, to compare overclocked CPUs. Now the comparison of overclocked 9600K to 3600 has no sense.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  4 роки тому

      I don't understand what you're suggesting, you can overclock the 3600, the X doesn't = overclock capabilities. I've ocverclocked both and done the same tests comparing the 3600 and 3600X here, the conclusion was basically the 3600X is a waste of money: ua-cam.com/video/3cjbBDCJxRk/v-deo.html

    So, to summarize, the R5 3600 costs less, comes with a decent cooler, performs around 40% better in productivity tasks (25% once both are overclocked).
    The i5 9600K on the other hand costs more initially, comes without a cooler, so that brings the cost up immediately, and the only thing going for it is that it is around 5% better at stock for gaming which increases a bit once OC'd but then again both of them deliver the exact same experience, and the numbers we see are only relevant for testing purposes. No one is going to notice that one CPU runs at something like 150fps and the other at 130fps, since it's not the same percentage as if it was something like 60fps vs 40fps which is huge. Once your FPS is in the hundreds the experience is smooth no matter how you look at it.
    On top if it, you literally have to OC the 9600K in order for that CPU to have any sense and to keep things competitive, and at that point it even sucks quite a bit more power.
    I guess 9600K is a decent product and a good performer on its own, but it just doesn't hold up against 3600 at its price point.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  4 роки тому

      Not sure, there's a reason people don't test games like that often, difficult to accurately reproduce for comparable results. Not sure about the stuttering thing, I guess depends if the game actually utilizes more threads or not.

    Gaming with other tasks such as everyday use, maybe some video editing or rendering from time to time - I5 8600K
    Rendering and Video Editing a lot and some gaming - Ryzen 5 3600
    Intel is better in terms of gaming, and still does fine with things like video editing, rendering, daily usage etc, but if gaming is not the priority, I'd go for the AMD, as it's still fine in games, but the threads are really useful.
