    How does AMD’s new 16 core Ryzen 9 5950X CPU compare against the 12 core Ryzen 9 5900X? I’ve benchmarked games at 1080p, 1440p and 4K resolutions to show you the gaming performance differences.
    I’ve also tested a number of other applications including 3D rendering and video editing software suites like Adobe Premiere, both at stock and when overclocked. We’ll also compare temperatures, power draw and value for money to help you decide which CPU is worth it.

    The 5950X is king, but the 5900X is the best overall value. I'm building a new workstation and server for multi-threaded development and need to spin up some VMs, so I chose the 5900X for both. 48 threads in all to work with for only $1100 in total CPU investment. It's crazy good.

    I use my pc for music production and video editing, and light gaming, at first I was using a ryzen 7 3700x. But now I got my hands on a Ryzen 9 5950x, and let me tell you, the difference is day and night, I can move faster without having to wait 15 minutes to render a 4K video, now I can get it done in 5 minutes, and then move to my next project. I got the 5950x over the 5900x because the extra cores, I use so many plugins and virtual instruments while I'm mixing a costumer's project, such like compressors, pitch plugins, reverts...ect. the type of plugins that I use can max out to 100% an 8 core CPU easy, plus having to mix the vocals in the same project really put a lot of stress on the CPU some people masteries and mix the beat on one project and then use the whole beat and move to another project to mix it with the vocals. But that's not efficient and time consuming, because if lets say that you finish the whole project like that (mixing the vocals ) and then want to make some changes to the beat only, then you have to go back to the old project (if you haven't delete it) and then make changes to the beat, and then mix it again with the vocals. That's time consuming. But with this beast of a CPU I can mix the beat and the vocals in the same project and my CPU will handle the load. The load of a game is nothing compare to this type of projects. One more thing if you just planning on making beats, an 8 core CPU will be just fine, but when you start getting into the more professional aspect of music, you will need expensive software, and hardware. ( in case some in the comments be like: "oh but 8 core is just fine for music") Thank you.

    There is no need for a gaming machines to have 5950X. 5950X is mainly for pro-consumer use where cores matter more than frequency and time is money. For example if you main activity is large code base compilation then going with 5950X will most likely save time (and money). For majority of people there is no need to go beyond 5900X.

    • @Shattered-Realm
      @Shattered-Realm 3 роки тому +5

      @@crxtodd16 IMHO the 5800x has a terrible price/perf ratio. If you're going to shell out that much for the CPU you might as well get 4 extra cores for a 100$
      Alternatively if you don't want to spend as much the 5600 costs 150$ less and it's a 6 core processor. That should be plenty of power for gaming. It comes down to how often you want to upgrade. You can buy mid range parts, they will become obsolete a bit sooner forcing you to upgrade sooner, but you will save a lot of money in the meantime the money you save you can put towards an even better rig later on.
      For any sort of content creation more cores = better. I'd get the 5900x if you can afford it or a 3950 is in a similar ballpark and has 16 cores vs 12. Again for productivity those 4 extra cores will be better than the IPC gain... I think.

      @@Sajddhhs I arrived at much the same conclusion and bought the 5900x. That being said the 5600x in gaming benchmarks beats intel's competions and is way cheaper than a 5900x.
      Despite having 6 cores it's got great single thread performance which is what matters in most games. I don't think it's a mistake if somebody gets one. CPU wise it's not going to bottleneck you and you'll still be good for 5 years before you really need to upgrade if all you do is gaming. For somebody on a strict budget that's an extra 200$ you can sink into the graphics card which will yield better FPS.

    Both the 5900x and 5950x have higher boost speeds above your static OC. The 5900x can manage around 4.7Ghz all core, with single core boosts up to 4.95Ghz. The 5950x will scale slightly around the same, however it usually manages 5Ghz or higher single core speeds, with all core sitting closer to 4.7ghz-4.8ghz. So by locking these you lowered their performance by a decent margin. As a side note, these clocks are achieved with Curve Optimizer, so your results may vary of course. But either way, Ryzen 5000 does not like to be overclocked manually.

    I do light productivity, but the applications I use NEVER use my 12-core CPU fully (with a caveat I explain). I get close in Handbrake but even there it varies a lot depending on what settings I use, the video resolution etc. The only way I can actually get to 100% usage is to start a second Handbrake session... so I might average around 80% usage encoding one video, but open a 2nd video (or queue of videos to convert) and it jumps to 100% usage... so if you are converting two or more videos then you should split between two, open Handbrake Windows (just queue one up, then queue the second window and when you're ready start the 1st queue then immediately start the 2nd queue)... obviously can get NOISY at 100% CPU usage if your cooling and/or fan profile isn't sufficient... I can't justify a 16-core CPU frankly but I do think my 12-core will last me around ten years as games get better threaded (and applications will probably depend more and more on graphics acceleration).

    By all means, create it to this point so you know what you're going to be saying, but you need to record a full-length dub for the final cut.
    It's kind of jarring to hear every single line spoken in the exact same cadence, with an uplift in the middle dropping to the exact same tone at the end.
    It's as if you wrote each sentence to start normally, RISE TO AN UNNECESSARY PEAK, then drop down at the end...

    I wouldn't say the 5950X has more cache. L1 and L2 cache are only able to feed a single CPU core and therefore part of the "extra cores" feature. They don't help out the rest of the CPU in any other way. Without L1 and L2 cache these extra cores would be useless.

      @@promalevendetta5397 He is saying that basically L1 and L2 cache should be considered as part of the CPU's individual cores. Each core has L1 and L2 cache, then the L3 cache is shared among all of the cores. When in the video it states that the 5950x has more cache, that is only because it contains more cores and those cores consist of L1 and L2 cache. The 5900x and the 5950x contain the same amount of L3 cache. The L1 and L2 cache on each individual core is designed to hold information for that core only. The other cores don't access individual cores L1 or L2 cache, only the L3 cache is shared data. I hope that this helps.

I know you mention it at the end, but is a lot more important than a mere mention near the end. As a 3d artist who likes playing on the side, the 5950x makes a lot more sense in a system that is already 2500+ dollars. Great work otherwise.
