  • Welcome to JustTenMoreMinutes aka JTMM aka The Freakin 10! I really try and be fair when I listen to songs, but just something is missing from the vocal. The lyrics are great, music is phenomenal, just seems like the vocals needed more of an edge to them if that makes sense.
Title: Cadence of Her Last Breath

I really like this song. One of the best ones with Anette😊
I love it that you are going through these lesser know songs❤️
When you talk about that, the vocals don't match the lyrics...I kinda agree, but I think it might have something to do with Anette's voice. Her voice is very clear and light, yet the lyrics are quite dark and melancholic.

I think Tuomas said that the first song he finished for the 'Dark Passion Play' album was 'Cadence Of Her Last Breath' in 2006. So after they let go of Tarja, but before Anette joined them. He must have had some kind of idea of what it would sound like, but I don't know to which extend Anette fit that idea.

I wonder if they were going for a build up with her vocals. Starting the journey with the soft tone, and building the intensity as the song progresses. Signifying a run for life kind of idea. I liked the addition of the breathing after the mid point of the song. Nice touch.

This song was written before Anette was hired so Tuomas probably wasn't writing it with a specific voice in mind. The song would've probably worked better with Marco singing lead and Anette providing backing vocals. The "run away" lines would've worked well with a female voice. Part of the problem is that this song is sung from a male perspective and we have this bright female voice singing it.
