    Yes! Love red velvet cake and I've been waiting for this. And thank you so much for including grams as well as cups. It makes it so much easier to follow in Australia.

    • @ellemelbaus1129
      @ellemelbaus1129 6 років тому +5

      Chris Bird, true, though I noted that his 2 packets of cream cheese was 450g but it would be 500g for us (I'd add the full 2 packets, not remove 50g) and that our one tablespoon standard is equivalent to 4 teaspoons (20ml) whereas American one tablespoon is 15ml 😊

    • @chrisbird9683
      @chrisbird9683 6 років тому +4

      Elle MelbAus Yeah I would be inclined to do the same for the cream cheese. It could be 16oz by volume which leads to error translating back to grams. I always just use 3 teaspoons for a tablespoon unless I know it is an Australian recipe :)

    I made this cake for Thanksgiving, and the cream cheese icing was the best one I’ve ever made. It was so light and fluffy. It’s also had a nice balance of sweet and tangy. I made the red velvet as a sheet cake (I was too lazy to make a layered cake.), so I followed the instructions to not add as much sugar to the icing. This red velvet recipe didn’t turn out as moist as I’d like, but my husband loved it. I froze the rest of the icing to use for Christmas. I only like cream cheese or chocolate icing, so for Christmas I’m going to use this icing on a lemon cake. 😋

    using a tea towel to shield your kitchen from mixer debris is brilliant. Also, i use buttermilk powder in place of some of the powdered sugar in a cream cheese frosting. It gives the extra structure without the cloyingly sweet that using all sugar gives.

    Hi there! Thank you for the recipe and the demo. Today was my first time making a Red Velvet cake and it was a success because of you. Instead of using the extra batter for the crumb decoration, I used it to make a sample cake to taste before serving it to others. LOL I believe this cake will be a hit tomorrow at our bbq. By the way, I also made your Yellow Cake recipe today. Once I make the chocolate frosting, I'll leave a comment there. So far, the little sample cupcake with the cream cheese frosting is delicious. I'm sure I'm on a sugar high because I'm just rambling now. LOL You're the best!!

    I actually made this recipe but be careful because the written recipe on the website and the one on the video are slightly off. For example the written recipe calls for 3 tbsp of cocoa powder but the video only adds 2 tbsp. On the video he says 1 teaspoon of baking powder but the subtitle says 1 tablespoon. Also the coloring measurements are different.

    John, I don’t like Red Velvet but, I adore the white roses on top! I watched your, Russian Frosting Tip video & I’m going to try first with cupcakes then cakes. You’re amazing, your Easter cake with the painted rabbit was the best cake, I’ve ever seen. Thanks, for your talent & hard work & sharing with us! 🌹🌸🎂

    11/2 cups sugar is 342 g or 300 GMs. ??Different measures seen on video vs ur webpage
    Similarly is it 1 tbsp vanilla extract or 2 tsp of it ??

    Question: some of your recipes in your video differ slightly from the online printable form; which do you recommend? I’ve been following the video ones.

      @@gabycastillo7575 I followed the video instructions. At least with that, you can visually see what you’re getting.
