I’ve owned this guitar for 3 months now. Absolutely in love with it! I originally had my eyes on a Gibson LP, got it, but had some issues with it and returned it. Which was a bummer since I had always dreamed of owning a LP. But I learned that the McCarty 594 was basically the prs version of the Les Paul, and I instinctively looked up and compared as many as I could online. One thing that I didn’t like about the Gibson while I had it versus my go to Ibanez was the thickness of the body. So I decided to go with the McCarty 594 thinline as I was hoping that would be more comfortable than the LP. Absolutely perfect choice as it still has all those classic vintage tones that sounds like the LP, but was definitely a more comfortable feel. This guitar is a versatile workhorse, and I give it 5 stars!
I did the same thing! Bought a LP. Played it for about a month , returned it and got the antique white thinline .594. I love it. It’s so light. I thought being a thinline might actually hurt the sustain and overall sound but it doesn’t. It seems to enhance it. I can really feel the strings resonate through the body much more than i could with a LP. Don’t get me wrong. A LP is a great guitar. But the McCarty is a great guitar as well.
Hi, great review! Can you tell me if it has any neck dive issues or is it balanced when standing with a strap? My LP is heavy and the SG's tend to have neck dive. Would really appreciate your feedback. Still using that guitar?
Yes I still have my 594 Thinline and still loving it! Because it’s a very lightweight guitar there’s no neck diving. I used to have an Epiphone SG, and that one would neck dive I think because its headstock and hardware was so heavy. The Thinline is just lightweight all around, and if you want something reliable with similarities to a vintage inspired instrument then you’re gonna love it. It may be a Thinline, but there was no major compromises PRS made when designing it. I also love it because it’s the only McCarty model with the Pattern Thin neck carve. Super comfortable to play especially with the 594 scale length.
Thin neck? Check! Lightweight? Check! Hard tail? Check! Humbuckers you can split? Check! Scale length under 25 inches? Check! This guitar was made for someone who knows exactly what they want after having gone through countless other guitars only to figure out what they DON'T want.
I really like how the moved the toggle switch from the upper bout to the part of the body with the volume and tone knobs. I didn't notice this until Brian pointed it out but I think it is an improvement. In general I like how the S2 594 "thinline" is more of its own thing compared with he other S2 594s they just introduced. Really cool guitar.
Thank you for playing the guitar clean. So many people stomp on a distortion pedal right away and you can’t distinguish the quality of the guitar with pedals mucking up the sound. Mahogany body and neck, makes for a good guitar. Thanks again. P.S. Paul please relocate the switch on the $3800 and up, more expensive 594 double cut models to the volume and tone control area.

I just got back from going to pick mine up - same color, Vintage Cherry. I ended up not taking it, as there were significant QC issues. First of all, the neck was significantly out of adjustment (truss rod), there were some blemishes on the fretboard (one bad one), and there was bubbling in the finish on the lower cutaway. There were also some ugly knots on the heel of the neck that looked crappy. Finally, the finish looked much more red than any pictures or videos I've seen. I ordered another one and will give PRS one more chance.
I really like the sound of this guitar, I just worry about the pattern thin neck carve. I think I will prefer the pattern vintage, but I suppose it would have neck dive if it had a fatter neck? Hmm, almost seemed perfect!
So I recently got and s2 single cut standard. It was great i got exited and ordered an se p20. Its was low quality so I sent it back and ordered one if those on payments. I can't really afford it but im disenchanted with se after that expirience but I still trust s2 stuff that's not cortech
Any suggestions...this or a Gibson SG 61? I could change pickups in either but they seem very similar for a all mahogany guitar. FYI I already have a 594 Artist with rosewood neck and a Gibson Les Paul. Looking to fill in the gap.
Tony Chen I know, I want a core model thinline. I don’t like the Pattern Vintage neck profile of the core and a core would not have a scarf joint on the headstock of the s2.
Hello prs guitars, I really love your products and wish to own a prs guitar one day. However, would it be possible for the s2 series to be produced with American pickups, that would be awesome.
thm mke Yup. The bevel is a bit disorienting. And I wish the switch was on the upper horn. But I get that prs doesn’t want to create a budget McCarty 594 that actually looks exactly like a McCarty 594 because nobody would buy McCarty 594s for their standard $3000-5000 price point. But it sure would be cool if these guitars came with body binding at least. The beveled unbound body reminds me too much of cheaper se’s, which aren’t bad guitars, but they are noticeably different.
Can anyone tell me why this one he has looks like the fretboard is ebony, and anywhere else you look to buy them they are rosewood. I just got this exact same guitar today. And i cant wait to go home and play it to see if its a keeper. I only played it for 10 mins today. But yeah my fretboard isnt that color it looks here. The one i have the fretboard is dark rosewood and light rosewood in places all down the fertboard. I wish mine looked black like this one.

Oh wow... That sounds rather exciting! Hit up your preferred PRS Private Stock dealer and get the discussion started!
Are these made in Maryland USA, as the other s2s??
Yes
Beautiful Guitar, are these guitars stained or painted? Or maybe different colors are either or?
either or
I may need a Sonzera 20 too.
Astro Pop yes. You may indeed. Got one last year and love it
I really like the sound of this guitar, I just worry about the pattern thin neck carve.
This is my next guitar. I'm torn between the black and cherry.
What amp was used on this demo?
Where can you find replacement tuners for this?
How do I buy the white one Paul was playing at Namm?
@PRS Guitars - If I wanted to upgrade to locking tuners, would I have to order the S2, SE, or Phase III?
Question: does the thinline mean that it has lots of noise? Since it’s hollow or is it just lightweight
Can we have this in a gold finish please?
you have to add locking tuners back to all your mccarty models. standard tuners are a big step backwards.
Weight?
🔥🔥🔥
Is the neck somehow like gibson les paul 60's slim?
Any suggestions...this or a Gibson SG 61? I could change pickups in either but they seem very similar for a all mahogany guitar. FYI I already have a 594 Artist with rosewood neck and a Gibson Les Paul. Looking to fill in the gap.
JUST BOUGHT ONE
so fat, so big, amazing!!! yet defined!! love it!!
What's the name of this color?
Please make a Core model of this.
They already have an core model, check out the Regular McCarty 594 on their website.
Tony Chen I know, I want a core model thinline. I don’t like the Pattern Vintage neck profile of the core and a core would not have a scarf joint on the headstock of the s2.
How much thinner is the body ?
Hello prs guitars, I really love your products and wish to own a prs guitar one day. However, would it be possible for the s2 series to be produced with American pickups, that would be awesome.
Just use this as an excuse to get some Lollars or something that you might not have experimented with otherwise.
most comfortable guitar i've ever played
When will PRS make a guitar that doesn’t sound amazing? 🤔😂🤔
The top carve with that steep angle stands out and looks just strange,
back then there was the Samick Greg Bennett Torino, was cut just like this,
thm mke Yup.
What color is that?
I guess it's a vintage cherry one
