Thank you for this very insightful video. This guitar is in my dreams, and I'm saving money to buy it next year... I haven't had a chance to try it in any stores yet, but I hope to do so soon. On paper it is my ultimate short scale guitar, but I'll wait to say for sure when I have it in my hands.
Jon, though I have cruised past your site many times, I stopped today when I saw you were reviewing the PRS S2 594 McCarty thinline. No doubt about it, you put on an informative and entertaining show. You have a very pleasant, warm and welcoming video presence; a nice change from some the more obnoxious and conde😊
Continued from above: "condescending know-it-alls. I have been on the fence about this axe for a few months now. Thank you for helping me come to the decision to buy. Paul should give you a slice of the commission. Live long and prosper."
A neat trick is to put the pickup selector in the middle (both pickups full) and role the neck volume down just a tick, say to 9. That tiny little adjustment gives a whole new tone :) Another great tone is to put the pickup selector in the middle and split the bridge humbucker. Almost gets an acoustic vibe.
I think I prefer the sound of the Standard, it sounds like fuller sound but maybe has less sustain? Oh I don't know which to go for now 😄 how do you rate them side by side?
I'm sure that is better but I have a HB G3 the same wood and color they look a lot a like the HB plays nice that guitar really make me think of my HB G3 copy sculped the same on the body and the switch is in the same annoying place so I can hit it when I strum it. That guitar is beautiful. I would like to own one.
Hi Jonathan, Been following your videos. Great reviews. Is it possible to get in touch with you re some advice on guitars and improvements. I am very interested particularly seeing playing w/o using the little finger. I have a problem with my, can't stretch. Hope this is not an intrusion. I am originally from S'pore too.
No problem getting your thumb wrapped over the fretboard 😎👍 Thin neck indeed..!😎👍 Vintage tuners cut weight...assuming thin neck, vintage tuners = no neck-dive...? Cool guitar 😎👍 😎👍❤🖖
Hi Jonathan, I'm a fervent followers of you and I'd like to ask you to recommend me about which guitar do you think is better according to your opinion? I wish to buy a PRS but my heart is divided between this guitar one and the beautiful S2 custom 24 Bonny pink cherry. Could you pls suggest me which one to purchase? My band is playing american and british oldies songs from 70's. Thank you very much in advance my dear friend.
I’m a sucker for a cherry finish Jon. Again lovely tones, PRS seem to do split coil really well. It’s coming across very resonant and again looks a pleasure to play. Oh boy ! I might have to add to my list . 😄😄👍👍❤️
Hi Jonathon, question for you on the Pattern Vintage neck. How does it compare to the Pattern Regular neck in terms of feel and size? I’m thinking about buying an S2 594 double cut and currently play an S2 Mira which has the pattern regular and I love that neck. Can’t find one locally so will have to buy online.
Hahaha I have a CE 24 semi hollow with a pattern thin neck, and that’s one reason why I ordered the thinline. I seriously considered the double cut with the pattern vintage neck profile, but I chickened out because I have smaller hands and thought accessing the upper registers would be more challenging. But I may change my mind after watching Jon.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud yeah it didn’t look that thin when you turned it round. Seriously tempted by either this or a Yamaha sg. Having a hard time deciding.
Great looking and sounding guitar in one of my favorite colours. But why no locking tuners? at this price those cheap vintage ones are not for me, and you can't upgrade them without leaving unsightly holes. This is a shame as the rest of the guitar including the slim neck would be perfect for me. Perhaps i need to search for an older model with locking tuners. Thanks for another great demo Jonathan😉
I own a S2 Thinline, I upgraded to Grover Vintage 533 locking tuners. They fit perfectly, no additional holes needed. I think that the Gotoh SD90s will also work.
I replaced my S2 Thinline stock tuners with Kluson 3+3 Locking Revolution Series G-Mount Non-Collared Tuners, Gold. Got them from Stewmac. UA-cam installation video out there - exact fit. Replaced them one year ago - extremely happy with them.
After having mine for a good while, I would rate it a piece of crap. Why use overseas pots when CTS pots are not expensive, why use overseas pickups, it’s not like it is a cheap guitar. The finish is crap, so fragile and everything reacts with it. The idea was good and it could have been great, but all you are paying for is more expensive labour costs, just a USA SE really
Nitro is reactive, that's part of Nitro. My 2021 CE didn't hold up well... at first. Sent it back under warranty and they fixed it right up. Finish looks good and is holding up well. I'm just mindful it is nitro and not poly. The import potsmon my 2017 SE are still going strong, so Un not quite sure what the problem is there. I agree about pickups, the Americans are a bit sweeter, but I don't think the imports are particularly bad. Ofcourse PRS is now using the USA pickups in these guitars. The S2 does feel better than the SE. The SE line is great, but there is a feeling of quality that the S2 line has over the SE.
Not a USA SE. I have both. SE are made of inferior lumber, tuning keys and bridge -the Thinline has the USA bridge. The tuning isn’t as stable on the SE and the overall feel is just cheaper. Not bad, just a lesser quality. I put USA pickups in my 594 Thinline and it is now as good as any other USA made axe. PS: yes, nitro finishes are fragile. You should see my ‘71 Gibson SG. It’s sorta beat up, but it still plays great.
Sounds great. Your playing has very good emotion and feel and it is incredibly precise.
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Jon’s guitars gently weep with joy, and not always gently.
lol ✌💚
It seems like the 594 Thinline is PRS fixing all the issues inherent with the Gibson SG. I like it!
Apparently so! ✌
My thoughts exactly.
Jon, I just love your vids. Thank you for sharing your love of music and guitars with us!
Glad you liked them ✌️❤️
Thank you, you make choosing a guitar so much easier, plus it's nice to sit at work and listen to you play!

It certainly is an excellent playable instrument. Beautiful. Lightweight. Great resonation. It's a winner 🏆
🤓
This PRS looks superior to a SG... Better tuning stability (headstock break angle) and probably no neck dive
It's a joy to watch you playing the song in this video, thanks Jon! :)
It was my Pleasure! ✌
One of the coolest PRS guitars. I may get one if I get a PRS.
✌️❤️
Love that colour, love those sounds, you played it beautifully. Such an inspiration!
Thanks so much Ms. Janet to allow Jon to demo these 🎸 guitars 🙏
✌Thank you

I just bought a thinline 594 that should be on its way home to me which is a tough wait so this video was perfect timing! Thanks Jon🎸
Cool✌️❤️
How you getting on with it?
I like the way your using the harmonics , Jon. I’ve been wanting an SG…but this PRS is very nice too.
Hahaha decisions decisions✌️❤️
Awesome

thanks for the smile 😉
✌
Beautiful playing as always! Been a fan since you did a review of the EMG Steve Lukather pickup set! Carry on👍🏻😊
Thank you ✌💜
Forgot to ask - please review the new PRS Silver Sky SE when available 😁
sure...when I get my hands on one...even though I am not a fan lol
I think I prefer the sound of the Standard, it sounds like fuller sound but maybe has less sustain? Oh I don't know which to go for now 😄 how do you rate them side by side?
They are different.. I bought the double cut. A close favorite is the Thinline

I love it!...it's a subtle difference..but it makes for comfortable playing imho✌♥
What kind of bass was that playing in the beginning? That bass was thumping!
I have no idea.. it’s a backing track ✌️❤️
How would you rate the S2 McCarty thinline, versus the Gibson SG ‘61??
Imho.. the tones are quite different. The PRS will be a tad warmer
How does this guitar compare to a Gibson SG standard???? I need advice on purchasing between the two guitars... thanks!
Very different sounding guitars.. You will have to try them out yourself✌️❤️
That guitar looks and sounds great on you!
I want this guitar really bad but am worried the neck will be too thin. Otherwise it’s perfect.
The neck is not that thin ✌️❤️

What is better s2 PRS or Japan revstar.
your choice
So now you have played all three, are you going to keep one?
Yes!! Guess which one!! Lol
@@JonIsJustTooLoud The S2 594 double cut with maple cap?
Hi Jonathan, thanks for sharing. Any suggestions for PRS S2 thinline or Gibson SG standard 61?

Looks like the Cort M200 series.

I think they are
