@ I own a s2 custom 24 and I bought it not knowing how bad the pickups were. I was also gifted a se McCarty and I swapped out the pickups on both guitars. All my other guitars 6 of them have the original pickups because they sound good, a few in similar price range and a few cheaper. Sorry PRS pickups are really bad.
@@BkBk-gy6vr The old overseas made pickups that were put on the S2s sucked. They are now using original american pickups used in the core line. They are much better. 57/08's are my personal all time favorites.
That DMO has a ton of high end! So defined, but not shrill or harsh. Seems like it’s a very merciless pickup. If you mess up, everyone will hear it. But in the hands of a great player it’s one of the many components to make magic happen.
Mad Respect for the continued pursuit of tone and yes the pickups sound great, but story is very reminiscent of the DGT pickup development and tone. Either Way Bravo!
I recently got my first Core PRS, and I’m blown away by the pickups. There’s a magic to them. I can’t imagine how good these will be. Gotta save up for a 594 now 😍
Excellent video! I'd love to see more like this, specifically more about the NF53 pickups & electronics; those pickups/controls interact in a way I've not experienced in 40-years of playing. Really looking forward to trying both of the new pickups~
I've played PRS guitars since '96. Since then, I've seen a LOT of change with PRS guitars, pickups, hardware, etc. Specifically, over the past 10 years, the pickups and their naming has been insane. 57/08, 59/09, 85/15, 58/15, 58/15 LT, 58/15 LT+, 58/15 LT TCI.... seems that change just for the sake of change is the way it goes at PRS. Meanwhile, the only pickups that people really want are the DGT's. Anyway, every time I hear about a new pickup from PRS, I play my old McCarty (with original McCarty pickups) or my old Custom 22 (with Dragon I pickups) or even my SC245 (with 245 pickups) and I really couldn't care less about whatever the new thing is. You guys got it right enough times in the past, why keep creating confusion with your customers by replacing perfectly fine pickups over and over? I can save you hundreds of thousands of dollars in R&D - replicate the Suhr Thornbucker, put them in every guitar, and stop this madness.
What a beautiful sound from both pickups types. And the guitars i have seen are wonderful delight crafted. Congrats and thanks to the team to offer another good choice of well crafted guitars and not only that other over priced old brand we all know. The passion I feel from Mr Reed makes me feel confident.
Paul, we love the never ending pursuit of improvement for our favorite musical instrument. TY. You guys are never living in your past like others we could speak of. The PRS journey has been spectacular. Happy 40th.
Been a strat player for the last 20 years and never been into Les Paul/humbucking guitars, or any other guitar besides the strat… then I played a WoodLibrary 594 a few months ago and it blew me away. Had to buy it. It’s the first humbucking guitar that made me re think strats, and its slowly becoming my favorite instrument. PRS is the culmination of respecting the past but adding an extremely well taste modernity pinch on their products and it’s just the sum of details over details that won me over. If every CEO was as worried as Paul in the products they make, the world would be a better place
Awesome. One great thing with prs. Was the pick up s. All great. . Then the set up. No fret issues intonation. All great even in the lower price ones . You go to any store pick up a new 5k strat or new Gibson 5k. You will notice intonation issues . fret outs.
I have quite a few PRS in my arsenal. From Modern Eagles to DGT to HB to 594. 58 / 15LT or TCI I thought they nailed it . I get change or moving forward but I love what I have. I'll keep an open mind with New pickups. N
For a long time I was very unimpressed with PRS guitars. I played a bunch at high end guitar stores like Chicago Music Exchange and they were all dead sounding. Lifeless and numb. I made a friend at a local dealer and told him about my experiences. He was shocked. He handed me 4 guitars. An SE CE, an SE DGT, an S2 McCarty 594, and a core DGT. I was shocked. They all blew me away. I get it now. I will be buying PRS guitars from him forever. They were so good that I would sell every guitar I own for one DGT core.
Hopefully there will be a McCarty 594 "Thinline" with the Pattern Thin Neck and these pickups available at some point? What's a hotter pickup for Hard Rock and Metal.... the DMO pickups or the 85/15 pickups?
I don’t know if any other builders out there they put more into research and development than PRS. Their guitars play flawlessly every time no matter which one you pick up. I mean, it may need a slight height adjustment on the strings. I’ve never adjusted the trust ride on my Custom 24 that is 20 years old now. My guitar plays flawlessly, beautifully.
I’ll be interested to see how these stack up to my HFS and Vintage bass set. To this day, I haven’t found a pickup set that’s more perfect. It records better than any other humbucker set I’ve played…not to mention gigging, etc.
PRS models were the greatest guitars I've had. Just couldn't fell in love with the 10inch radius. :( But I at least have PRS pickups in my Les Paul. :D
I've got only one PRS in my collection (Silver Sky SE), but for $850 it plays great. I often find myself playing it instead of my Les Paul 50s Standard or my Fender Jazzmaster, both of which are $3k guitars. Need to add another PRS, maybe higher end, to my collection!
Great video and i have a question, I know its not the topic here - But i have heard the relatively new TCI pickups are similar to P-90's... Im hoping this is the case...?
I would reeeeeally love it if PRS did something a bit out of the ordinary and did a 25.5” PRS with one himbucker and a single coil in the neck. Same neck carve as an SE or custome 24

The big question that everyone has who owns a PRS guitars with 58/15, and or 5815 LT pickups is, how similar/different the new pickups are. The McCarty IIII in the video sound a little warmer and a little less top end than the 58/15 LT' in my McCarty 594. Like your trying to get closer to a Les Paul sound from the late 50's, though its very hard to make a clear observation on one video with UA-cam. So Paul said the DMO's sound similar the McCarthy III's but without covers. The McCarty III's have a warmer sound in this video over the DMO's which make the McCarty III's have a more Gibson-ish sound. No one can say PRS pickups have no character. The DMO's are a little brighter. It is interesting that the 58/15's have covers on Custom 24's prior to 2025 and the new ones don't. My opinion....as a guitarist of over 30 years, who owns a McCarty 594 and Les Paul Custom, I think PRS is making a mistake with the McCarty III pickups. STOP TRYING SOUND LIKE A GIBSON, AND SOUND LIKE PRS. You have the mindset of Gibson which is the best sounds are from over 60 years ago. The 58/15 LT's are PRS pickups sounding like PRS. They sound great and they have their own personality. Don't go chasing the Gibson sound, its does not suite you.

This is a core model and I'm guessing something is wrong.. the McCarty reviews are all spectacular, but that hasn't been my experience unfortunately.
They sound great but I would prefer a little more of an open top end, to my ears, it sounds like a low pass filter and moderate compression has been applied that is musical but doesn't sound like it has an open breath. Saying that, I do really enjoy my core 2408 with 85/15 LT pickups 🙂
The lighting at 1:37 is... unusual. I can barely see the guitar, and Paul's face is blasted with harsh light for no reason. Appreciate the video, but it's a bit distracting.

I also have a Single cut McCarty Circa 2016-17? Love the pickups but not as much. This is in no way a negative post. Just asking. On the anniversary there is more low end and I noticed on the video Paul mentioned high end. I own LP's, Strats and many others, but PRS is hands down my favorite guitar builder. Just I suppose I like what I like. I find myself going to the middle pickup on the single cut a lot, but it doesn't have the same bite. Any answer would be greatly appreciated but not expected.
The 58/15 LT are the best sounding PAF style pickups I've ever played. They sound perfect in my rig. I can't imagine anything sounding better but if anyone can do it, it would be PRS. Also, they sound best when using the PRS Signature strings.
Korean workers got fed up with the way they were being treated and demanded better working conditions. So Cort moved to Indonesia. Love PRS, but it's a shame they couldn't find someone else to do business with over there.
