Ableton I like your daw, BUT the only way to add a mono instrument or audio is by using utility mono and its not making the sounds truly mono. Please fix that!!! PLEASE!!! I bought Ableton 11, Logic Pro, fl studio, and logic is the only one that allow me to add a Mono track by default. Please Ableton 🙏🏼 is that so difficult for your developers to do?
@@svperman_lod no man. Trust your ears more than any graph. Try with a synthesizer, make it mono with ableton and then do the same with Logic Pro make it mono. You will see the difference. Don’t take me wrong I like ableton very much. But they have to fix that. I can’t believe nobody notice the difference
Started using Ableton only because the tutorials I was watching were using Ableton too. After 8 years of using it, I still haven't even scratched the surface of what it's capable of, because I've stopped exploring further. Thanks for making me see it as a wondrous "toy" again 😄😄
In Ableton I like to make my own synths. Not with Max4Live, but rather combining sounds/synths into one. Let's say you want a synth where you can play 3 different kind of sounds at once (eg.: lead, bass and something else in the middle to fill out the space). You can easily make those 3 sounds in the default Operator, Meld, Wavetable synths or any other VST plugin you want. Once you made the first sound, you can actually group itself, and you can add the two next synth instances below. Once I'm done with the sounds, I usually add some post processing and effects, which I then map to macros (you can add as many you'd like!) and hide all the elements. At the end I'm basically left with a great sounding box of parameters without seeing all the other technical stuff! Also once you set up something like this, you can randomize the macros with the "r" button on the top (this also works with drums/sounds inside Drum Rack) so you have endless possibilities. Hope this was interesting and that you will try it out :)
@@WhoIsAlexElliottonce you dive into the chain selector for instrument and effect racks everything kinda explodes. The possibilities with this daw are truly endless. Also, the drum rack has its own send/return inside of it, so you can do parallel compression, add reverb and all the stuff ON THE SAME CHANNEL, but in parallel. It’s nuts. Also, you can select individual samples out of a drum rack for side chain inputs!
I was on Logic for 15 years. I got on Ableton about 2 years ago and it has been the biggest positive changes in my workflow since I can remember. I am constantly blown away by the capabilities of this DAW. Honestly, the session view is what really convinced me. Getting parts down on the fly and mixing and matching phrases and adding fills etc. for arrangements using clips/scenes has been a game changer. Then when I started learning the endless power of Abletons racks it was like a revelation to me.
I concur with all that you’ve said. I tried going back to logic the other day and it was painful to create in. I even prefer doing vocals in ableton now also! But I think out of habit I’ll still mix in logic if it’s a external clients song because I like seeing the plugins in the mix window
@@WhoIsAlexElliott Yeah man I was doing just that, still mixing on Logic, for the first year or so and it worked out really well. Once I got more comfortable with how Ableton works I actually did make the full switch for mixing too. But that's just because it made the mose sense for me with my current setup. But ay I'm subscribed. Definitely gonna be checking out more of your stuff. The drums on this beat were doooope, man.
My absolute favourite feature in Ableton is the fact that once I hit A for automation (same as Logic which is helpful), I can hit any parameter inside my plugin or effect and automatically it shows up in the automation lane! It's SO intuitive!!!
@@mang0mag1c Logic works the same exact same way, been this way since 2016. As long as you have “Autoselect Automation Parameter in Read Mode” selected in the menu under ‘Mix’ you’re good to go. Select it once, that’s it. Now you can click on any parameter in any plugin and it automatically shows up in the automation lane, just like Ableton.
It’s so fun to watch people enjoy the tools you use on a day to day! Seeing you get the same joy that I got when I first opened it up is the reason I try to get my friends to try different gear, daw, methods. Hopefully you stick around in Ableton lol
Some fun things that I like about/to do in Live: 1. Set an LFO to random and map it to all kinds of different stuff. One really cool one is to map it to the arpeggiator "Type," which will create all sorts of generative-sounding stuff (which you can then resample and pick and choose your favorite bits). 2. Of course, the External Instrument is fun to use with external synths. People have also created synth controllers in Max4Live for a lot of popular synths, so you can automate the knob-twiddling. Sometimes getting the recorded audio to line up correctly can be challenging, though. 3. Just the simplicity of the mixer, - which isn't trying to emulate a hardware mixing console - is great, compared to PT. The way you can just drag and drop tracks into groups, etc., is so intuitive. 4. All of the stock instruments and devices are pretty stellar. I love that they have their own design language so that plugins are easy-to-approach, vs. the skeuomorphic mess of other DAWs.
Another dope thing about the browser is how when testing your samples in real time as the project plays its automatically warped to the project tempo...so for eg where I make the most of that is a go through drumloops as the project plays and it plays it in sync with project as I scroll through them with the arrow keys...soon as I here one I like then into the project it goes
@@williampaulsonpth7915 In Logic, any loops added to the Untagged Loops tab in the Loop Browser will automatically sync to the project BPM too. It’s sad that so many Logic users don’t know this.
@@WhoIsAlexElliott It sounds like the guy I was responding to didn’t know. Also I come across people who don’t even know what Untagged Loops is in UA-cam comments and in multiple forums on an almost daily basis. Re: stretching, as long as it’s in Polyphonic mode (Complex) you should be good to go, also the stretch quality also depends largely on the source material itself
Cmd + F had simply changed my life as a veteran Ableton Live user since I discovered it. It’s hands down the fastest way to browse a plugin or sample and you click click return and be on your way. For me Cmd+Opt+L to show/hide device view and show/hide the browser with CMD+Opt+B allows me to fly through sessions. I have similar feelings about recording and editing vocals in pro tools due to melodyne ARA and vocalign via audio suite. Hope these change your world as well!
@@WhoIsAlexElliott yes bro! And to add to Cmd + F, you can click one of the categories in the browser sidebar if you want Live to search what you typed within those folders. Getting to know how Live indexes certain things like Pro Q-3 with or without the dash will help you accelerate. And my pleasure!
bro im super glad i found you. your excitement is everything to me. im a studio one guy but love creating in bitwig studio and ableton live. ive been recently trying cubase but naw. cubase is kool but Live 12 is where it is especially after recent update to 12.1 OMG!! It was fun watching you go thru each device testing your sound
Maan, your joy of this discovery is infectious! Im a logic user, still playing with the thought of switch to Studio One for mixing and Ableton for making beats.. But its also intimidating after 15 years in the same DAW.
@@RMKTOPPEN ahh Thankyou haha. I was having fun. I understand the intimidation but it’s so much easier when you understand it’s all about learning shortcuts for the things you do often 🙌
@@DMNDBEATZ Thats what happened to me slowly aswell, with logic pro 11 being quiet unstable for me thats when I made the full switch. Each time I go back to logic I work so much slower
Great video. You should really explore the Session view as well. The workflow of arranging clips and pairing them up like working with Lego bricks is such a massive game changer on the creative writing stage for me.
I also came from Logic and started using the Ableton Demo about a month ago. Im completely impressed by the workflow and the ease of use of this software. By now im a proud Live 12 Suite owner and never looked back since.
🙌🙌 I feel the exact same. Only thing I miss with logic is it ran larger sessions on CPU but I’ve adjusted my workflow and now do mastering seperate as the oversampling limiter is the main issue CPU wise. The creative benefits of Abelton are worth it
In Logic you can create 'favourite' folders and categorise them. So you can access the plugins you want quickly there too. Just found out the other day :D
@@thatmaestro yes I love this feature, it takes a while at first but it so worth it. Most other DAW have this also including studio one, Cubase and Abelton 👌👌👌
I used Logic 9 for a while. Was very frustrated with the workflow. I decided just for the hell of it to install a Ableton Live Lite that had come bundled with an audio interface. I worked on that for about 5 minutes and decided to switch DAWS. Eventually got the full version. Been using Live for 10 years now.
It’s so intuitive. I also switched by accident. I was doing programming for a live show and needed to send some stuff to ableton so thought let me just get the trial and learn basic. Then I fell in love ❤️
also around 3:30 i see how your working with it. you may prefer how it is now. but if you want you can right click on the saturation knob plugin for example or somewhere in the browser background of plugins and right click and uncheck group by creator if you prefer all your saturation plugins being in a list for example when you hit saturation.
Man, I felt the same way when I switched to Ableton Live 9 around 2015 (I think). I cane from Cakewalk Sonar and jumped ship when it became apparent Gibson who owned Cakewalk at that time were not gonna support it anymore. After making the switch, it just blew my mind - the workflow is better than anything I had tried before. Oh, and I purchased it with Push, and its been incredible. Ive had Push 2 and now 3 standalone, which is an absolute beast haha. There's NOTHING else on the market that can compare to Ableton. You are right - its just FUN, and despite insane flexibility and power, it feels like playing with some magical toy. I can't get enough!!! Great video man, I already checked a few of your videos - I've subscribed, I like your vibe and attitude! Keep up the good work man!
Ahh I’m glad you have joined the community and yes Abelton is so fun. I’m looking forward to exploring it more and playing around with the sessions view. My friend lent me his push 2 but I havnt even managed to fully dive into that yet. So much to explore 🙌
you said the keyword....MODULAR, cause that is exactly the feeling i had when i started using it, that combined with a push and everything is laid out on the knobs, crazy, making an audio track into a melody midi track or harmony or even drum track ,experimentation is around the corner then, i use live for 10 years or something and i still find new ways to do things.
And you're still in the arrangement view. For me coming from Cubase and before that Cakewalk and some exposure to Pro Tools the workflow of the Clip View was a seismic shift in how I approached recording and production. Ableton could just do so many things that I had been wishing I could do but didn't know how to - at least on my hobbyist budget. Welcome to the adventure. It is a DAW which seems to have been made for musicians and creators rather than studio techs.
🙌🙌🙌🙌 can’t wait to get into the Clip view. I’d been scared to test it out cause it’s so alien to me but everyone in the comments has given me confidence
@@WhoIsAlexElliott Almost all of my creative workflow and even, ironically, planning the arrangement, is done in clip view. I will use arrangement view for mixing and mastering but that is the end of the process. The "Live" in Ableton live is largely due to the flexible nature of clip view. It allows us to play/perform live our productions as well as create them. If you are interested in seeing how I do this here is a link to my channel. www.youtube.com/@OldogNuTricks Different genre than what you are doing but you get the idea.
Thankyou for sending the link. I think because clip view is second nature to ableton people, there aren’t many straight forward videos explaining how to do it.
Many people having same issue as me and have done for last decade. So there must be a bug they haven’t fixed in over a decade. Cause everyone I know has the delay. Especially when running sounds of an external Hardrive (which no other DAW has an issue doing) 🥲
Great video Bro! I've been using Ableton since version 5 and there's definitely a way that you can save cpu power. And that's by freezing/and or flattening the tracks
Great video. 👏I don't do beats but I'm subscribing to your channel to partake in the creative joy !✨Have been using Ableton for a while mostly for recording and am just starting the journey of learning how to fully produce/mix my own music. Have upgraded my interface to an Apollo Twin X and was wondering whether I should stick to Ableton or switch to Logic and your video convinced me to keep Ableton on board. 2 questions: 1-Would you recommend using both Daws? (Ableton for music creation and Logic for mixing) 2- Do you record vocals/instruments and have you noticed more latency issues with Ableton than with Logic?
Haha that opening line made me smile 😅❤️. Thankyou. Regarding your questions … 1.Yes I recommend using both DAWS as it’s a real asset to know multiple daws. Also currently Abelton has no 5.1 so if you ever go into film and tv world Logic is an asset. 2.I was initially mixing and doing vocals in Logic but now I’m 100% ableton. However my circumstances are unique cause I hardware monitor so latency isn’t an issue. However you do have the perfect latency solution In the Apollo x because you can track through the console app with zero latency (I highly recommmed this workflow no matter what DAW you work in). I run Ableton at 256 buffer size and that fixes my latency issues. But be mindful of having any high latency plugins are the stereo bus as that can impact your latency. I usually only add limiters for example and linear phase stuff at the end of a session. Ultimately I find abelton much better for my specific way I work where speed & precision it’s everything. But both are capable DAW
I tried to get into Ableton many times. It didn't make sense to me. Been a Logic user since 1996 and i can't seem to break away from it. It just makes so much sense to me as a songwriter. I guess if you're more into just making beats and weird sounds then you'd be attracted to Ableton but as a musician who plays actual instruments I find Logic to be unbeatable.
Glad you're on the A-Train I literally dropped what you said in this video during a presentation where I introduced Ableton to some students: "You can do everything with anything in Ableton." It actually feels like a philosophical statement. ^_^
...do you have the auditioning mode button activated in the Logic Loop Browser? It should be in the bottom-left corner, like so. First it's disabled, but if clicked on once to enable, it should turn green.
Yeah it makes things play back even slower, some people have said the browser is fine but 9/10 of those people were running everything on internal storage. Every other dAW is blazingly fast whiles running on external storage so is just a logic issue.
You mentioned how you would mix in Logic and make beat in Live, same concept here. I got stagnated in Studio One when it comes to "out of the box" creative vibes. So for me it's mixing in S1 hands down but Live 12 for the beat making. Yes indeed.
How is S1 these days. I was actually using that daw before but it then became super unstable on my system. S1 was the absolute best software I’ve ever mixed in. I loved in inbuilt summing
@@WhoIsAlexElliott wellll, after fender took over it’s hard to tell what happened. I haven’t used s1 heavy in awhile but it seems they improved it 🤷🏽♂️.
I was here mentally in 2017-18, and moved my production to ableton. Still love logic Pro for recording.. Thats the work flow.. make the beat.. mix it in logic/pro-tools.. done.
Sometimes the mix sounds better in ableton though, because of the process to make a mix happen.. so its a toss up.. HAVE FUN BRO.. you're not cheating on Logic.. lol
One Giant Modular synth.. that is it, thats why i love it. and it has a Giant Grove box with Session View. except for bitwig i think this is the only DAW that is really made by the people who Want to use it. it just makes So Much Sense, only people that Love something can do that. We need to demand as much from more products.
I want to change my production style from just working with pre made one shots and loops libraries to recording, sampling your own sounds and coming up with ideas. Working with more real samples, manipulating them, jamming with them in sessions view and finally arranging a track. Its hard to find such videos which nails all these aspects in a simplified manner.
@@WhoIsAlexElliottDrag a clip from the time line onto a midi track, it will ask if you want to create the midi as harmony, drums, etc. It is ok for simple audio samples. Otherwise NeuralNote plugin gives you much more control to do the same thing.
@@WhoIsAlexElliott it is auto settings for things like density, length, etc... try each option for what seems to work best and produces the midi you are looking for. However, I have often seen that it usually either creates way too many notes all the time or just isn't very useable as there are no options to customize the sensitivity. Maybe it works on some styles of music and not others better.
there's an effects chain and a drum rack you can use. i think you can use the drum rack as a sampler. i haven't tried it but it should be doable. also you can map almost anything to your keyboard, or to your midi controller. you don't have to go into the settings, mess around, figure out how to create a shortcut, use a key combination that doesn't already exist. you can just press the key or midi map button at the top of the daw, click on something on the screen, click on a button on your keyboard or midi controller, click the key or midi map button to disable that mode. and for the rest of that session, you can use whatever button you pressed to toggle or control that parameter that you selected. almost anything can be mapped.
I hate the look of Ableton but the workflow is second to none and its stock sounds are great. The fact that the EQ, dynamics and effects are open and visible on each track massively speeds things up and the range of effects is staggering. I’m an M1 Mac user and Logic runs well albeit with its quirky glitches. Sadly, I’ve had many problems with Ableton which seems to crash regularly and I often have to go hunting for a track in Finder because Ableton has lost the link to it (my most stable platform is Reason). Good luck with your journey and I look forward to hearing the results.
It’s funny I use to hate the look but it also grew on me. Stability wise I’ve only ever used 12 and it hasn’t crashed once yet. Also “Collect all and Save” is your friend. It’ll keep all things from session in one place when you hit save. But either way it’s great you found something that works for you!
as another long time Reason user I have to say I am on the edge of changing daw, I am having so many hard /soft crashes it is infuriating I am someone who ends up having big projects and I think Reason really cant handle that side of things, once the project starts to get big the program starts acting up on me, the vst performance is lagging behind other daws as well because they took so long to go VST
I haven’t used reason rears. It was the DAW I used after fruity loops manny years ago. It couldn’t do vocals back then 😅😅. Can imagine it’s come far but unfortunate to hear about the crashing
the look is one of its main benefits: it doesn't drastically change for the sake of change over time like other pragrams, doesn't have BS colors and animations and gradients to distract, and focuses on what matters!
Hi Alex, I'm a new subscriber, as of this video. I totally relate with you! I'm somewhat new to Ableton as well, but I'm using it as more of an instrument than a DAW. I have Maschine, Ableton and 3 analog synths synced together as separated instruments with mono feeds to Pro Tools. I realize this is a month old & I'm late to the party, but keep making more Ableton videos. I like how you went through it but didn't sit on each point for too long, the flow was good! Cheers from Vegas.
I used many DAW in my life, but ableton is my choice since 2019, the worlflow for produce beat is faster than most of the DAW on the market. The audio manipulation is just crazy.
Dope video and welcome to the Ableton fam. Consider this: Ableton has trouble delay compensating within efffect chains. So let's say you have Pro L2 in your chain, introducing latency (shown in the bottom left as ms), if you put a kickstart/shaperbox/lfo tool/tremolator or anything like that after it, the timing will be off. But once you know, you can work around it with midi triggers.
So I realised that about limiter. And I just keep it off the master of the season now until the end. Luckily most of my set up is Pulsar modular stuff which is running great latency wise.
@@WhoIsAlexElliott What I meant is a little different. Let's say you have track with a pad sound and you use a linear phase Pro Q3, which introduces 116.1 ms of latency. Then you add a kickstart to duck it. This kickstart ducking will not be in synch to the rest of the project, but 116.s ms off. So the timing of the pad itself is correct, but the timing of the ducking is off. This is different from the way other DAWs like logic handle latency within the effect chain of a track. You can test this easily with the Pro Q3 in linear phase or any other effects that introduce additional latency (example all the Soundtoys, all Arturia FX, all UAD FX to name a few). Hope this made it clear :)
@@mingofaas5809 sorry yes it made sense to me. This latency issue is present even with the master limiter on the end of my chain because Elevates adds over 100ms of latency also. So I realised very quickly to use low latency stuff only and actually found myself just using the built in Abelton FX and really loving them! I think I’ll just have to go back to respecting mastering as a separate thing again. I like Ableton to run in a way where at any point I can play something in without latency.
People like to say that they prefer Ableton because it has better workflow, better creative plugins, better browser etc. But I don't believe it's any of those reasons why people enjoy it so much. There is something almost magical about Ableton or perhaps how the audio engine processes sound and timing. You can suck at making music and somehow, no matter what you throw at Ableton, the results are musically convincing. In some way, the melodies sound better, the beats groove almost effortlessly. Imo, It's the most forgiving DAW for those who lack musical talent. After many years of using both logic and Ableton, I cannot figure out what it is. In logic, you gotta work much harder to get something going that sounds good. I'm a happy logic user, but if I ever wanted to impress someone with a quick beat, I'd most definitely fire up Ableton. German voodoo.
This is exactly it. I feel like I’ve found the DaW I was always meant to use because it just CLICKS with me. For the first time I’m not fighting my brain. I’m just having this seamless flow of my brain to my arm to my daw to my speakers ❤️🙌
Thanks for your post. I posted a similar comment a few weeks ago and I got the usual replies that all DAWs sound the same (null tests prove it, blah blah blah). If I finish a song in Logic and post it to social media or wherever then 9/10 it will sound inferior in some way. If I do the same with Ableton then it just sounds better, almost professional, yet I've gone through exactly the same process. Logic is a hard DAW to work with in my opinion. I'm convinced it has something to do with transients. Logic seems to hide them where as Ableton makes them stand out from the get go.
I can say that the inbuilt quality of ableton stock plugs ins and general Creative use cases are way stronger than logics. If I was to mix a track exclusively with stock plug ins I think I’d be happier with my ableton results except for reverb because Space designer is so GOATED!
@@FrozenGenius10hay so I actually disagree. I’ve used studio one. Ableton. Logic. Fl studio and Pro and there are DEFINITELY things that each of them cannot do 😅
I love that I never have to route things to a Bus ever again. Grouping is so much more intuitive and easier to manage plugins. Ableton still does give you the ability to route to other tracks if needed though through the send system.
I own Logic Pro 11 latest version unfortunately. And it’s not just me but several people who still and have always had this issue. But no other daw has the issue. It’s been going on for over a decade and still not fixed. It may be to do with running sounds if external Hardrive. But all other DAW are fine with this as it abelton as demonstrated in the video 😔
@@WhoIsAlexElliott That's odd indeed, I just made the test with an external drive (ORICO M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure USB-C Adapter 10Gbps with a Crucial P1 CT1000P1SSD8 1TB Internal SSD >> Works also just fine on my M1 >> Probably (how Logic manages) bandwidth related issue..Maybe this can help other users who are having the same issue...
I've been using FL Studio for about 5 years now and have been thinking of making a switch to Ableton for a while now but I've been put off because I was afraid that it would take a long time to get used to it but this video convinced me to finally give it a shot. Downloading the trial right as I'm writing this
my favorite feature of ableton is the automation hands down it's soooooo simple to modulate parameters in plugins and more often than not ableton labels them correctly, I've been using ableton since 2015 and haven't regretted switching from FL all those years ago, ableton has a funny way of making complex tasks easy and more doable, I find it's like an extension of my body at this point now that I have the shortcuts burned into my brain. I feel like, while ableton isn't the best looking DAW it's not there for looks, it's there to help you get stuff done and I love it cause it doesn't get in my way in the same way that a DAW like Logic or FL Studio would. However, I gotta say I'm not trying to drag these other daws down, at the end of the day it doesn't matter what DAW you use so long as you can do what you want to do in it. The tools don't matter, the DAW is just a means to an end. But I'm glad you gave ableton a fair shot.
Max 4 Live device Performer! Absolute bloody madness. Custom 'drawable' mappings, basically personalize how any parameter responds via a MIDI controller (or 'CC Control' M4L device). Draw custom mapping curves to extend or separate sweet spots in your Wavetable Pos parameter? Sick of scrolling through all the filter types when you mainly use just 3? Draw a 3 step mapping curve and use a macro knob to switch through just those 3 in the exact order you want! Design a 'modular' MIDI control surface that 'patches' (combines) separate hardware controllers in one surface. Add 'modular style slew' to your hardware MIDI control on 'any absolute or relatively adjustable DAW or plugin parameter', and these are just things I've come up with? The whole caboodle is endlessly assignable!! Enjoy! Oh, SUBSCRIBED by the way.
Ableton Live is amazing bro! When I started making beats with it I kinda completely stopped making beats in logic. The interface was kind of off putting at first but when it clicks with u it's over lol. I love that they make hardware too with the Ableton Push which I also love. I don't even really use Logic for vocals anymore because I find UAD Luna is just way better for anything audio related too. You gotta try Luna as well for recording and mixing its amazing. Ive been saying for a longtime that logic needs a massive upgrade to its audio engine bro.
Ah bro you’ve sold me. I love DAW’s so I’m keen to try them all! LUNA IS next! I used it few years back when it was new and the channel analogue mixer emulation was so good but there was a lot of missing basic things back then. Keen to see how it is now.
Yo I use Luna too for audio editing bro, it's dope! Everything is so easy. Idk why people ain't talking about it. I mostly use FL studio for cooking beats but when it comes to editing audio or mixing beats I go to LUNA. I got Ableton too which I'm about to start using the session mode for making beats to dive into another type of creativity
Expresion control lets you map (or randomize) any parameter to velocity, Aftertouch, modwheel, etc. Performer, in version 12 lets you create macros across different tracks. Those are the greatest hits for me
@@WhoIsAlexElliott that's right, and you can even calibrate the response curve to your needs. It works a bit like the lfos but it's a midi effect so you have to place it before the synth or whathever, first thing in the chain
Jippi!!🎉 you actually liked Ableton!!! That’s really great to hear!!! I knew you would like it Now you should buy the m4l tool BIP (bounce in place) and Clip gain to get some more tools to make things easier! And also session cleaner and auto track colour! Hope these tools helps!
I’m so nervous to try the track colour things incase it is messing with abelton code and I can’t undo it. Is it safe. It looks awsome … I saw with BIP that it didn’t work on certain versions of Ableton which made me nervous about the ongoing support for some of the Max4Live plugins in the future. Regarding Ableton yeah I’m absolutely loving it. Have to thank all yours and the communities comments for suggesting it to me!
@@WhoIsAlexElliott yeah, but its not like m4l changes ableton internal code. Its reads API from ableton instead. And yeah some of the m4l devices can crash ableton but I’m using all of those^^^^ and I have never crashed because of m4l in live 12… my ableton is crashing because I have like 150-200 tracks and 12 return tracks and not enough ram😵💫😵💫 But honestly live 12 feels much more stable than live 11
@@WhoIsAlexElliott it takes the input you assign and creates an envelope that can then be used to modulate parameters of other effects. For example; you can place the envelope follower on a hi hat track and then map the envelope it creates to modulate any parameter of any other effect on a different track. The parameter you assign it to will now modulate based on the exact groove and dynamics of the hi hat in real time. Super dope and powerful tool.
It's crazy bro, basically exactly what you used the LFO for, just using the other elements in the beat as a source. Would love a video showing a full beat being made in ableton!
Maybe you should try Bitwig! I found bitwig easy to use from Logic and way more friendly and refined. Ableton never clicked with me. I use Logic … and I find everything I do in Logic takes way less steps then in ableton… and you don’t have to jump all over the screen to make it happen.
That’s so interesting as I found the exact same to be true but for ableton. And thinks take much longer in logic. But it really depends on what we are searching for mostly. Ive made good use of the custom tags feature introduced in 12 and have all my folders organised so my go to plugins are one click away. And I have my trackball mouse that I’ve linked some shortcuts to also so that may be helping. But I can get an idea down much quicker in ableton than I can in logic
I couldn't tell if you were doing this or not, but you can open folders with the right arrow key and close them with the left arrow key. So basically, when you get to the last drum sample, press left arrow to close the folder you are in, press down to the next folder, then press right arrow key and keep browsing.
The time stretch engine in Ableton is completely nuts!!!...I love it. I can for sure show you some features that will make your head spinn. I am a logic user since 1998 and still are. But i only use it for Mixing.
I think I’m becoming like you. Logic just for mixing because if it’s traditional mixer view and being able to run more plugins. Please send me some links to some features 🙌🙌🙌
You can freeze individual tracks to free up cpu processing power. At the bottom right corner of the Mixer area, toggle Show Performance Impact by clicking the button marked "C." This will show you the CPU usage for each track
The issue is it’s actually the mixing I do on my busses/groups and master busses so freezing is as much of an option. For now I’ve been just using stock ableton stuff way more and having fun! I reach for the built in saturator before anything else now 😅
I can’t express how disappointed I am with the new Logic update. Been waiting for more than 10 years for the the most simple stuff to work like having a good browser, not really being able to bounce multi tracks without issues, plug-in search etc. Seems like the guys at Apple don’t have a single clue what professionals actually need and want. Instead we get fed some shitty AI instruments and a loop section that nobody professional EVER uses. It’s just frustrating but fortunately there are alternatives… Thank you for this video mate!
Ableton just doesn’t click for me🤷🏻♂️ I really mess with a lot of those features, but for some reason, I just can’t vibe with the daw itself I like the browser in studio one (midi preview) and the chord track/scale snap
@@WhoIsAlexElliottif you can make and sell arrangement templates with markers in ABLETON for various genres like house, hiphop, trap, etc, I'd buy instantly. Or even in Studio One using the arranger and marker tracks.
You got me. I subscribed and looking to buy Ableton. I feel you on how it makes you feel like a kid again just toying around. The MPC is fun likewise but in the hardware sense.
It caused me to adjust my workflow. And I actually use the built int plug ins a lot cause they sound SOO GOOD whiles being CPU efficient. If they are good enough for skrillex then it’s good enough for me 😅👌
@@WhoIsAlexElliott I'll stick with Reason for now, 12 but might upgrade to 13, not decided yet but it apears they have implemented or copied browser features straight from Ableton 12.
@@WhoIsAlexElliott Thats true for any DAW stock sounds and presets will always be better however We pay alot of money for VSTs to have them be unable is not ok.
Now you can use both! People act like you have to choose a DAW but it’s refreshing creatively to jump between as many as you can afford. With each having such different sounds and sets of fx it’s actually cheaper to have multiple DAWS than it is to have one and then buy lots of plugins
Apple makes many products, and has a budget for Logic software. Ableton makes one DAW and a MIDI controller so they are 100% invested in the music making only. Imagine if Apple put 100% of their budget only into Logic. By the way I use both, and go back and forth between the two. Logic is better for some things and Live is better for others. You don't need to settle in one single DAW, it's not a rule.
@@josealejandrogarciarojas1115 yeah, I hope the piano roll gets some love in the near future. Bitwig does so much better than Live that I have a hard time going back, but there are definitely a few areas where Live still shines
You want Real fun making beats in ableton? have a play in session view. Ideally with some sort of grid controller, even something as cheap and basic as a novation midipad mini. Get the real LIVE fell. It's like back in the day rocking out with an MPC. Just create some loop then fire off samples and loops freestyle and create something new and raw then take that into arrangement view and develope it further. Also never forget ableton is always listening... anything you just did even if not recording you can bring back out of the clipboard.
@@WhoIsAlexElliott Oh yeah arrangement is best but session view is a lot of fun especially if you have a grid controller to fire off the loops can spend hours jamming and come up with some great ideas about how to use those loops.
They didn’t properly. I’m using the latest version of 11. As are my piers and many of us having the exact same issue as demonstrated in the video, as are many people in the comments👌. A factor seems to be running sounds of an external hardive which is not an excuse cause as stated in the video no other DAW has this issue! 😅🙈
I love how Logic is still called 'Logic'. Some of the workflow is the most unintuitive activity you're ever likely to do on a DAW. A long-term Logic user, I grudgingly attended a Live demo/tutorial at my uni. I was making beats before the end of the session, and within 6 month's of that I'd released 3 albums. It's not just for electonica stuff, either; i'm currently using it for orchestral composition for TV/film. Live is awesome. It could do with a default RTZ, and zooming is a bit quirky, but otherwise I have no issue with it. Great vid, by the way - sub'd. I often try and ween my students away from Logic onto Live. This vid will really help with that, so thank you!
Haha honestly I went through the same process as you. A lot of people say it’s not great for doing audio stuff but I actually much prefer ableton “take lanes” for comping over logics
I’ve used Logic Pro for over 20 years. Ableton 12 finally got me to switch. Logic Pro now seems archaic and very limiting. Ableton also just sounds better.
They actually don’t because the plugin options that come with a daw sound different. The default mixer may sound the same without doing any mixing. But for example studio one has an inbuilt summing system that only luma can rival with. Luna also have the summing options and integration with their plug ins. For a long time Abelton OTT was a guarded secret and it was near impossible to get that sound outside of Abelton. There are a few other inbuilt Abelton plug ins that I’ve never heard or been able to do in studio one or logic. I could keep going but I’d be here all day 😂
@@WhoIsAlexElliott plugins may sound different. But many eq..even analog modeled they can null with pro q if u set the same q values. Lots marketing quimiks
Which is why it’s so Important to find those quality ones. But DAW defo produce a different sound. My best sounding stuff is in Studio one hands down because of the inbuilt Summing which I really miss!
No one I know personally has the logic browser that plays back instantly. We are using external hardrives for our samples (which isn’t an issue for any other daw). Are you running your sounds all internally?
In really like Ableton, the clip view it’s so useful, and I love the simplicity of how the effects are shown alongside the arrangement. The only thing my brain struggles with it the horizontal fx chain. The FL format of a vertical stack of FX on the mixer just makes more sense to me. Maybe I will revisit it again on the future. I do wish they used a similar model to FL of pay once rather than having to pay for further upgrades, but a minor point.
The horizontal work flow does take some getting used to. But I’m totally used to it now. It’s a really fun DAW. I still need to check out how fruity is these days
Ableton really shines when you start building your own Instrument and Effect racks. By utilizing the chain selector, you can crossfade between different instruments/effects or just use it as a simple selector between different groups. If you need some inspiration for what you can do, Ned Rush, Virtual Riot and Au5 are good sources for really technical stuff that you can do. Perhaps not your main genre they produce but nevertheless, great sources of information and inspiration!
Thankyou I’m going check out their content as I’m super technically inclined. 🤓. LOVE THE NERDY STUFF!!!! And yes I’ve been saving my own racks later which is awesome. I also realised I can save a group of instruments also. So for example I have an orchestral string group with seprate violin, cello, bass instruments and when I saved the group it saved it exact with my mix. So I can simply load up 5 instruments under one preset 🙌🙌🙌
@@WhoIsAlexElliott Yep! I've made racks for my mostly used synths where the macro's are pre-mapped. Makes everything soooo much easier. Having default audio and midi tracks can also be a something to look at. If you know that you always put on a certain plugin chain for every track (like EQ and a compressor maybe?), you can load that to an empty track, right-click and choose "Save as default track". Every new track you create, will add those plugins to your channel
@@WhoIsAlexElliott Oh yeah the browser alone kills Logic. What's up with that shit? Logic'c browser sucks a big fat one. Max for Live you can also make instruments, Midi Effects, AND devices for the Generative Midi that are in the new piano roll. Check out the Bouncy Notes plugin in the Midi Effects section. Like Logic seriously can't do any of this, like not even a recreate of something like Bouncy Notes. I feel sorry for people trying to make electronic music in any other DAW and FL Studios just doesn't have the same workflow. Isn't it really exciting? I'm trying to learn M4L now and it's not easy but it is set up so you don't need to know code in order to start crafting your own, Audio Effects, Midi Effects, Generative Midi, Instruments. Absolutely LOVE Live. Edit: Also get Duck Buddy, it's a free M4L device. It's actually better than Kick Start2. Has Lookahead that get's rid of those Clicks notorious in LFO Tool.
So many people mentioning LUNA. I tried it before but the main challenge I had were the shortcuts were pro tools and I can’t change them. And just can’t get to grips with them
Inspiring watching you getting jazzed about Ableton. I used Logic for many years but had the same journey as you with discovering Ableton. The only thing that Logic still has the edge on is the bundled instruments. So I use Mainstage now with the IAC midi driver and Soundflower so I can use Logic's instruments bussed into Ableton.
Ha Thankyou. Yes I agree about logic internal instrument bundle, It’s the best all in one by far! Personally I’m at a point where I never use logics built in sounds, as I’ve accumulated so many high quality 3rd party stuff so switching was easy cause I was just comparing functionalities 👌🙌. Thanks for comment what’s your fav abelton feature, anything I should check out?
@@WhoIsAlexElliott You know, it's hard to point to just one feature to be honest - for me the game changer was just the infinite tweakability of everything - kinda like what you pointed out in your video - being able to assign almost any parameter to LFOs or automation, or use the midi mapping to instantly put a control on a physical knob so I can mess with it while playing. Also, the stock audio effect plugins (e.g. the compressor) are super snappy and you can dial in very precise settings to get the exact sound you want. When I go back to Logic now, that's the stuff I miss straightaway
I've never liked the latency issues with Logic and I've been using it for over 20 years, so drifted back to using MPC for certain projects. It's new 3.0 update feels like the ultimate creative tool, when you factor in the ease of use and connectivity for outboard gear.
Cubase , pro tools, logic etc all came from the era where daws tried to emulate the workflow of working on a mixing desk with tape recording. When the likes of acid , live, and traction came through they were optimised for on the fly mouse workflow. Completely flow for creativity. Logic did make big strides since Apple bought it from emagic, but that DNA is still in there, it never changed at the fundamental level. Also apple make barely any revenue from music production so change is slow on that wing.
You should try to mess aorund with the grain delay. I use it on some elements or groups. You can resample that to a new audio channel and record yourself messing around with the parameters. The coolest parts can be chopped or looped, it's amazing and also good fun!
Just ran across this video and your channel. I will subscribe and look into more of your content. I love your attitude and your energy about music creation. I feel the same way just playing around in Ableton Live and for sometime now I have been wondering about picking up Logic and giving it a go. So far I have resisted as I can't say that I lack anything for music creation within Live -- just curious about Logic and will, still, probably try it out. But in relation to what you asked. I have gotten pleasing results with the Arpeggiator. For one example, I loaded a grand piano (one six-note chord) and placed the Arpeggiator before that and the Random generator before the Arp. I chose "Diverge" for style and played with the Random settings until I got something I liked. Next I added the Autofilter, the Delay and the Reverb and played with those until I was satisfied. Then I added an LFO to modulate various parameters. Lots of fun and in the end a very usable musical result. Don't want to go on too long here, but just to add, besides building Max For Live devices there are lots of incredible free and for-purchase devices out there already. Check out Max For Live devices that are already included in Ableton Live Suite for a start. Since you mentioned the "modular" feel of Ableton eventually check out something like Kit by Fors. They make great Max devices but at a cost. All the best.
Awsome thankyou for sharing this valuable information. And your sound design process is elite. Love it! I’ll check out “KIT by Fors” for sure! Regarding logic defo give it a go as I honestly know many daw and found them great for different things. Logic will be my go to for mixing and tracking large vocal sessions still.
I’ve been using logic for 10+ years. There are so many issues i feel Apple are just not addressing like the browser. Half of my samples don’t even playback because they are too ‘short’ or start too early for logic to process so I have to use the finder to browse presets sometimes. I have the M3 Max 16 core Mac Pro with 2Tb so all my samples and sounds are stored locally - but I still run into issues and buffering and clipping when one of the processing cores peak. For some reason, they only allow us to use some of the cores for logic. They need to unlock the full potential of the computer! 😀
I'd share a little convenient thing. If you're not really using session view with it's clip launching - just drag all the track volume faders up, so that it looks more like a mixing view.
I feel the exact same way I didn’t change before because at one point there was no take lanes or easy way to comp vocals so I didn’t even consider it. Because I’ve made a good additional income from vocal tracking over the years.
for EDM its abelton for me. I just bought Bitwig recently and ive been wanting to get into that one as well but if I need to get work done I'll be in Abelton. I also own Logic Pro 11 and use it for more rock related tunes that dont require tonnes of sound design.
What I really struggle with: I love the Logic Instruments. There are endless Synths, keyboards, strings, etc. I‘ve never found the same quality in Ableton. What is your experience?
I’ve been producing so long that I’ve curated an extensive library of instruments so I was never using any inbuilt logic sounds or studio one Or Ableton sounds. I believe that Ableton has superior inbuilt synthesis though whereas logic has superior inbuilt sample instruments. If you’re just starting out and want to use only the DAW Free stuff then logic is the way to go! But for overall creativity and sound design and unique sound possibilities. Ableton is the way!
I've struggled to use Ableton, I've tried, spent a lot of money on it and gone on classes to learn it. But whilst it makes sense as such to use I can't translate its workflow to the music I make. It's mainly around the behaviour of the mixer, sends, busses. Every track seems to be a linear string of source + FX so you have loads of tracks. I'd always have sends to common FX and automate those bus tracks. I know all of this is possible with Ableton but all the tutorials, such as this one where it talks about how amazing it is never look at the bits of the DAW that are the bits that I'd want to look at. It's just 'this send adds a bit of reverb', cool, that's not what I'd be using them for. I think the main issue is that when you decide on a DAW one upon a time and learn it, you become comfortable and know where everything is, key combinations, how to achieve the thing you're after without thinking about the UI, you just do it. Then you decide to use a different one and suddenly you're learning the controls all over again, nothing is in the same place or behaves the same so it gets in the way of extracting the music from one's head into sound.
Yeah it can be tough. When I first when from fruity loops to Cubase it was tough. But then adapter that I went Cubase > Logic > Studio One > Ableton > Logic. I’m not sure what ableton version you had used and I don’t have any knowledge of previous versions before 12. But you have 12 sends (which I use for generic reverbs and delay sends etc). And then you have fx racks which seems to be the thing that really unlocks Abelton. But it’s most likely just not the DAW for you. It just happens to work for me really well. I may do a video on my Ableton layout in the future which could be helpful
@@WhoIsAlexElliott I've got Ableton 11, I didn't upgrade as I've not got value from it yet, I've a Push 2 controller also so went all in :) There are producers that make music that's not too dissimilar to mine that have gone from Logic to it and said it's far easier to be creative with. I've used Cubase and Cakewalk and didn't have a learning curve to figure out, and whilst it's not the same I quite like Maschine, need to have another attempt at getting comfortable with it, force myself to make a record without creeping back to Logic.
@@perge_musicyeah there are a few things that are clunky. Mainly sends. But depending on how much you value the benefits of Abelton like pure sound design and creativity, then I’d say it’s worth the trade off I only joined at Abelton 12 so that’s all I know also!
Cool video, thank you. How easy is it to switch work flow and tool knowledge from logic to Ableton? I’ve only got 3 years in Logic and not sure my brain can handle learning new tools and DAW layout.
I don’t want to say it’s easy because I find it easy as I think it’s more challenging than my experience. I think in a way of systems and patterns but I understand not everyone thinks that way. How are you with playing different video games back to back that have different controls and mechanics, can you adjust quickly? (Only example I can think of 😅). It’s really about having the patience to find the shortcuts that do the things you’re accustomed to in logic. I changed DaW around 5-6 times over the years and the only challenge is finding the shortcuts. If you allow yourself the patience to adjust to shortcuts so much of the other stuff is pretty much the same! 🙌🙌. Maybe just give the 30 day demo a try and watch a tutorial on “must know ableton shortcuts” that’s my best advice.

@@oddtheysee4043 that’s my current struggle with it. Not as straightforward 😭😂.
Hope this was interesting and that you will try it out :)
oh my goodness. This is proper mad scientist stuff and I love it 🙌
@@WhoIsAlexElliottonce you dive into the chain selector for instrument and effect racks everything kinda explodes.

My absolute favourite feature in Ableton is the fact that once I hit A for automation (same as Logic which is helpful), I can hit any parameter inside my plugin or effect and automatically it shows up in the automation lane! It's SO intuitive!!!
Logic does this now also. But in general drawing automation in ableton is way better!
CMD J is the same to for consolidation
@@mang0mag1c Logic works the same exact same way, been this way since 2016. As long as you have “Autoselect Automation Parameter in Read Mode” selected in the menu under ‘Mix’ you’re good to go. Some fun things that I like about/to do in Live:
Thanks for sharing some amazing points. Point 1 & 4 are the greatest for me! I love these two things 🙌❤️💯

Another dope thing about the browser is how when testing your samples in real time as the project plays its automatically warped to the project tempo...so for eg where I make the most of that is a go through drumloops as the project plays and it plays it in sync with project as I scroll through them with the arrow keys...soon as I here one I like then into the project it goes

you said the keyword....MODULAR, cause that is exactly the feeling i had when i started using it, that combined with a push and everything is laid out on the knobs, crazy, making an audio track into a melody midi track or harmony or even drum track ,experimentation is around the corner then, i use live for 10 years or something and i still find new ways to do things.
That makes me really excited! 🙌🙌. I love DAW that keep on giving
If you are interested in seeing how I do this here is a link to my channel. www.youtube.com/@OldogNuTricks
Different genre than what you are doing but you get the idea.
Thankyou for sending the link. I think because clip view is second nature to ableton people, there aren’t many straight forward videos explaining how to do it.
I have no problem in the browser in logic, I just hit the down/up arrow and immediately hear the the sound.
Thanks a lot for the tip!
@@WhoIsAlexElliott NO problem Bro! Just right click on the selected track and select freeze track.
👌💯🙌
The midi generation and manipulation is amazing. Interfaces brilliantly and easily with external gear also.
I’m excited to test it with my external gear and CV inputs with my moog synth also!
Thankyou.
Regarding your questions …
1.Yes I recommend using both DAWS as it’s a real asset to know multiple daws.
@@WhoIsAlexElliott thanks. Appreciate your quick response. Have a great day
I tried to get into Ableton many times.
Thanks for sharing your view point 👌☺️
Glad you're on the A-Train
I literally dropped what you said in this video during a presentation where I introduced Ableton to some students: "You can do everything with anything in Ableton." It actually feels like a philosophical statement. ^_^
😂😂😂 “momma I made it”. That’s awesome bro. Glad to be making an impact
...do you have the auditioning mode button activated in the Logic Loop Browser?
For me the issues started around the time that Apple went native
I was here mentally in 2017-18, and moved my production to ableton. Still love logic Pro for recording.. Thats the work flow.. make the beat.. mix it in logic/pro-tools.. done.
Sometimes the mix sounds better in ableton though, because of the process to make a mix happen.. so its a toss up.. HAVE FUN BRO.. you're not cheating on Logic.. lol
Haha. I’m not cheating right? I felt bad for a little bit
Wait til you discover session view!!🤟🏻
Still havnt tried it yet
One Giant Modular synth.. that is it, thats why i love it. and it has a Giant Grove box with Session View.
except for bitwig i think this is the only DAW that is really made by the people who Want to use it. it just makes So Much Sense, only people that Love something can do that. We need to demand as much from more products.
It’s really puts others to shame. When it comes to features. You can tell the developers are passionate
Will keep this in mind for future videos. Thankyou.
i love how ableton lets you rip grooves, and rip melodies and chords into midi 😍
How ? 👀👀
@@WhoIsAlexElliottDrag a clip from the time line onto a midi track, it will ask if you want to create the midi as harmony, drums, etc.
It is ok for simple audio samples. Otherwise NeuralNote plugin gives you much more control to do the same thing.
When it says create midi as harmony what does that mean?. Will it try to break the chords into their seperate notes 😳😳
Ok will give it a a try none the less
there's an effects chain and a drum rack you can use. i think you can use the drum rack as a sampler. i haven't tried it but it should be doable. also you can map almost anything to your keyboard, or to your midi controller. you don't have to go into the settings, mess around, figure out how to create a shortcut, use a key combination that doesn't already exist. you can just press the key or midi map button at the top of the daw, click on something on the screen, click on a button on your keyboard or midi controller, click the key or midi map button to disable that mode. and for the rest of that session, you can use whatever button you pressed to toggle or control that parameter that you selected. almost anything can be mapped.
I’ve been messing with this a lot to map my maschine to Abelton and it’s been super fun!

Ah thanks for the positive feedback. I will do!
@@WhoIsAlexElliott Much love, bro!
I used many DAW in my life, but ableton is my choice since 2019, the worlflow for produce beat is faster than most of the DAW on the market.
The audio manipulation is just crazy.
Honestly I’ve never made music so quick in my life! 🙌🙌🙌
@@mingofaas5809 this problem is gone with live 12
Ableton is like Iphone, charismatic, nothing else. The UI in Ableton is not ugly imo.
Totally agree. Everthing just feels fast and intuitive
Just purchased LOGIC PRO 11.0.1, the browser file sound lag issues that you mention in the video are not present, time for an update?

Downloading the trial right as I'm writing this
@@robb.c amazing. Have a wonderful time 🙌🙌
my favorite feature of ableton is the automation hands down it's soooooo simple to modulate parameters in plugins and more often than not ableton labels them correctly, I've been using ableton since 2015 and haven't regretted switching from FL all those years ago, ableton has a funny way of making complex tasks easy and more doable, I find it's like an extension of my body at this point now that I have the shortcuts burned into my brain.
💯🙌. You’re right about not dragging other daws down. And whatever works for the individual is the right one!
Wait wait wait. This sounds INSANE! Where can I get this ?????
YES!!! I’ve been saying for a while that Ableton + Max is like a modular synth. Completely agree

Expresion control lets you map (or randomize) any parameter to velocity, Aftertouch, modwheel, etc. Performer, in version 12 lets you create macros across different tracks. Those are the greatest hits for me

Don't sleep on the envelope follower device. Also creative extensions is a must have ableton pack for me.
Ooo what’s the envelope follower. I saw it but couldn’t figure it out?
@@WhoIsAlexElliott it takes the input you assign and creates an envelope that can then be used to modulate parameters of other effects. For example; you can place the envelope follower on a hi hat track and then map the envelope it creates to modulate any parameter of any other effect on a different track.
Bitwig in 2024 is off the consideration. They dropped the ball and it seems not trying to come back…

Very good point. I do my mastering in studio one, mixing in logic and creative in Ableton. 🔥🔥

@@WhoIsAlexElliott Live is great for audio, I think. Editing audio is better, too. Logic can't seem to draw a waveform properly!
@@JezNashMusicyeah the waveform is a mess actually!
I’ve used Logic Pro for over 20 years. Ableton 12 finally got me to switch. Logic Pro now seems archaic and very limiting. Ableton also just sounds better.
EXACTLY the same for me!
Daws sound the same
They actually don’t because the plugin options that come with a daw sound different.
My best sounding stuff is in Studio one hands down because of the inbuilt Summing which I really miss!
i dont know which version of logic you are using but my samples play back instantly from the browser
No one I know personally has the logic browser that plays back instantly. We are using external hardrives for our samples (which isn’t an issue for any other daw). Are you running your sounds all internally?
@@WhoIsAlexElliott oh i understand now... my bad
No problem
Wait until bro hears about Audio Effect/Instrument Racks
Thanks to all the comments on this video I managed to hear about it 😂 and it’s taking things to a whole new level!
There's a reason why Timbaland and Danja use Ableton 😎
I REALLY understand why!
Timberland has a team of people making music for him which he then puts his name to
🤫 don’t expose Hollywood 😂😂😂😂
@DaddaPsy Thankyou!
It's called 'Live'
It’s so Hard for me to unlearn. I think I’ll always call it Abelton 😂😂. All my piers call it Abelton
@@WhoIsAlexElliottI know, I know 😅
😂
@@WhoIsAlexElliottbro don’t call it LIVE lmao. the community has effectively renamed it cuz LIVE is a shit ass name

FANTASTIC VIDEO, will strart Ableton this week. Also ordering the push, excited!!!
I’m super excited for you also 🙌🙌🙌
@@WhoIsAlexElliott JUST LITERALLY BOUGHT SUITE + MY PUSH, TOTAL NOOB HERE #ALLIN
🙌🙌🙌🙌. AMAZING ❤️. So much fun and creativity in your future
I hate logic piano roll and browser
It’s not the best
You gotta try the LFO device and Shaper device, game changers
I’ve been having so much fun with them!
Ableton is apparently better for making tunes but logic is better for mixing.. that’s what I’ve heard..
I feel that way currently also!
Man I’m so excited. Seems like there’s so much to still discover 🙌
Hmm I mix in Ableton too, but lately often I export all tracks and then mix / master in LUNA. Try that! (summing!!)
So many people mentioning LUNA. I tried it before but the main challenge I had were the shortcuts were pro tools and I can’t change them. And just can’t get to grips with them
Hopped on at Ver 9! Every record since then has been done in Ableton! I love that program!
Feel like that’s going to be my same story but for version 12
I feel the same. I can’t live without the tweakability and Ableton is the first DAW where I find myself reaching for stock plugs before 3rd party ha
@@WhoIsAlexElliott Totally. I actually rarely find I need anything other than the stock audio effects, apart from some mastering tools here and there.
@@TheOrphicCreativesame!
I've never liked the latency issues with Logic and I've been using it for over 20 years, so drifted back to using MPC for certain projects. It's new 3.0 update feels like the ultimate creative tool, when you factor in the ease of use and connectivity for outboard gear.
Awesome will check it out! 👌
Fantastic explanation and makes complete sense!
You should try to mess aorund with the grain delay. I use it on some elements or groups. You can resample that to a new audio channel and record yourself messing around with the parameters. The coolest parts can be chopped or looped, it's amazing and also good fun!
That sounds INSANE! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Exact same issues I’ve had. Completely relate 😔
I'd share a little convenient thing. If you're not really using session view with it's clip launching - just drag all the track volume faders up, so that it looks more like a mixing view.
Oh it’s resizable. That’s a great idea! I’m nothing the sessions at all
I went to Abelton from Logic Pro 4 years ago… I haven’t been back🤷🏾♂️.. for creatives (imo) Abelton fun man.. Good Stuff!!! U get it
I feel the exact same way I didn’t change before because at one point there was no take lanes or easy way to comp vocals so I didn’t even consider it.
❤️🙌 sound design possibilities are endless!
But depending on how much you value the benefits of Abelton like pure sound design and creativity, then I’d say it’s worth the trade off
I only joined at Abelton 12 so that’s all I know also!
@@WhoIsAlexElliott thanks man that’s super helpful! Great analogy too with gaming. Learning new maps and stuff is a lot but it’s time I guess. Just downloading the 30 day trial now. I feel like I’m cheating on Logic! 😂
@@musicbycubbro I felt the same. I almost called this video. “Logic Pro I’m having an affair with ableton” 😂😂😂 but I thought the title was too wild. Haha and I love marriage ❤
