A wonderful journey. Learning Chinese will be difficult, but you are back to your student days again. Time goes back and I wish you all the best! Love from Guangzhou
Guangzhou is okay and nearby HK and so convince by High speed train from Guangzhou South and Guangzhou East station to HK weekend reach at West Kowloon station.
😅😁You are very brave. Despite all warnings from the medias not to take ‘risk’ coming to China , you did it.Chinese is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and the most widely spoken language in the world. China's territory is the third largest in the world, so there is no problem for Chinese people never to go abroad, because China has all the topography in the world. The North and the South also have completely different cultures and foods. Chinese is indeed difficult, but if it is just for daily conversation and communication, you can quickly improve your communication skills with Chinese people in one month by studying in Beijing. I hope you can study happily. have fun!
In a month's time, you will be the best cultural ambassadors in the world! We are all rooting for you, Matt and Julia! You can do it! Forge on, brave soldiers!
What a spirit of improvement! I wish you all the best with your Chinese course. For me it would be impossible, I have been studying English for 50 years and I still speak like Tarzan. Haha... I would need 500 years to be able to make myself understood in Chinese! What great news that you are repeating the tour through Uzbekistan! Being part of your first tour was a privilege. Fantastic memories for a lifetime. I am already dreaming of being part of the tour through China... I hope it happens... Love to both from Sasha
Wow what an adventure. I can see your frazzled brains after day 1. 😂 great language to learn though and I think being two of you practicing together will be an enormous boost. I’m surprised you found time to film and edit a video for us. Tks 😊 I’ve been watching Little Chinese Everywhere and have enjoyed it so much and seen such beautiful places she’s filmed. I’m not surprised you love it there. Bye for now 👋🏻 study hard lol
Your attitude towards new places and culture is the reason I keep watching you guys. There’s good and bad days when travelling long term but you guys just always seem to roll with it. Ppl sometimes complain about how different or “weird” things or make these “shocking China!” vids but you guys never do that. You treat everyone with the same kindness and respect. ❤
I admire you guys so much ! I am actually thinking of learning Mandarin next year, so this was inspirational. Pro tip: After a lesson, take a nap. There’s some neuroscience to this, but basically a nap was found to give the brain time to process and commit to muscle memory what it has learnt. And yeah, the brain is a muscle. Same is done in yoga, when at the end of the class you go into savasana , where you give the body and mind time to rest and consolidate the learning in the body.
Great tip by the way. FUN FACT || we have a big couch at the school (you might see it pop up in some of their videos). We had to rename this the nap-sofa because students just sleep there more than studying, chatting or browsing on phones! Welcome to join us in Beijing next year 💪
Congratulations, Julia and Matt! I would have made the move myself if I were a bit younger. So happy for you guys, be well and have fun in this new journey!!🎉👍
I really admire your dedication and determination in committing to full-time Mandarin study for a month! Keep up the great work! Let me know if you'd like me to respond in Mandarin in the comments-I'm a native speaker based in the U.S. 🥰
Congratulations Matt and Julia!!! You know,, you always seem happiest when in the Far East - it always shows in your reports from there (and of course, the Arctic with you Julia). But both of you seem to shine a little brighter in Asia 💎🐅⛩
@juleslowery2030 3 weeks ago Thanks Julia & Matt - I always feel you 're at your best in the Far East, despite the heat. Hot pot would've been a hot bot!!! (Now, if I were a gambling man.... )
As a tourist and as a resident are very different things. A lot of new challenges will be waiting for you for sure. Wish you both happy and successful in your lives!
Have fun. Being an expat living and working in Beijing back in early 2000 for 6 years, I can say from experience this will be a trip for sure. Wangjiang at that time was still considered quit the outskirts then and most of the expat hangout were are east to north east between 2nd and 3 rd ring road.
What an exciting adventure! 😁 Wishing you all the best as you settle in and embark on this exciting new chapter! Looking forward to hearing about all the adventures along the way. 🏮😊
Not easy to learn chinese but so long you willing to speak / interact more. Will be faster. Dont worry surely will bear fruits. All the best and take care
You guys are so great! I’m so excited for you and your Chinese language learning adventure! I love learning new languages and I recently just spent some time learning Italian. Wherever I travel, I try to learn as much as I can of the language. Chinese might just be a bit tough for my almost 67-year old brain but I’m just loving watching you go through this. I know I don’t need to tell you this because I know you already know how fortunate you both are!
Bravo, a fun and difficult journey learning Chinese as an adult! Mandarin is my 1st language, Cantonese 2nd, American English my 3rd, and Spanish my 4th. All before 18 y/o! Good luck, si se perde
I've been researching too, I am a Cantonese native speaker, lived in Canada for 42 years, since i grew up in Canada I didn't get a chance to learning Mandarin, nor read or write in Chinese....let's just saying i'm curious as of lately and looking...
Hainan Province in China has a separate visa free policy, offering a 30 day visa free period to 59 countries. Hainan Province has a tropical climate with beautiful beaches and the sea. We hope you can explore Hainan
How fabulous! Best of luck to you. I’ve really enjoyed your videos and these on China have been incredibly interesting. I think what’s struck me the most is how clean the streets, sidewalks and parks are. Truly shows the pride in the Chinese people. I’m looking forward to following your progress.

I guess you won't need an interpreter for next year as I'm planning to travel to China in September next year too😅😅. Matt would sound better as ma te but it's all done now so I'm looking forward to your next videos.

I studied Mandarin HSk 1 and 2 last year August and finished April this year. I can say I can converse with Chinese already when we visited Zhangjiajie Hunan this October. And it’s fascinating to unlock this long time bucket list to study Hànyǔ ❤ 我非常感谢我的老师
Wow. Very impressive! I will never be able to stay with foreign families in a foreign country while experiencing language barriers. Good luck with your mandarin class!
I am loving this video. Matt, remember your never to old to learn. ;-) Even at 30 yrs old. lolol I love the flat/apartment. Julia you look overwhelmed. I see it in your eyes after the first day. I hope you all paced yourselves. But you got this. You both have learned languages before. Lol! Matt you def look like you got hammered by so much in one day. lol You both got this! I love the small class idea. Having taken a language in high school years ago. I had 25-30 students to learn with. lol That was no easy task. lol I cannot wait to see what you both have next time! I am stoked for you both and hope all is going well in your new home for the month. Be safe!! Happy learning!

I once took an intense Russian conversation class. By the end of the day my brain felt the same way you are describing. And...my jaw was not used to making the other language sounds for so long (the full 8 hours in class). My jaw actually hurt the next day. Looking forward to seeing how your adventure continues.
Oh we get you, for sure 😄 It incredible how different languages use completely different parts of the mouth and move the jaw in totally different ways to us right! ❤️
