I installed this center diff and both spiral cut gears in my stampede 4x4, those spiral cut gears are so beefy compared to stock. Super impressed by the quality of these parts.

    • @nate0765

@John Lujan I would guess its the front diff, you might have some messed up gears. Hitting reverse puts more pressure on the front diff and causes the extra noise.

One thing you should have mentioned is that if you change either the front or the rear diff gears to the spiral cut, that you have to also install the spiral cut gears to the other end. The spiral cut gears are a different ratio than the plain gearset and can make for some awkward running. I did that on my brothers Stampede 4x4 thinking they would be the same ratio, but the spiral cut are geared to spin faster. I should have known as it is the same concept in full scale vehicles between spiral and straight cut.

Ive had terrible experiences with aluminum part upgrades. plastic is great, it flexes and doesnt bend. Im hard on my vehicles and anytime ive upgraded parts on any of my trucks(going back to savage 25, flux, now the rustler 4x4 and erevo mini) it seems like spending more and then you bend something and its a huge money sink. I usually do RPM arms, and bigger shocks/heavy oil but leave the rest plastic.id love to hear from some people with builds like this that drive their stuff hard.

    • @MrMKnigge

I agree with most of what you are saying. I tell people all the time to skip the ultimate version and get a BL2-S, then upgrade the motor and esc if you're no longer having fun at 2s speeds. I would still upgrade the center drive shaft to aluminum right away as well as upgrading the motor mount if you upgraded to 3s. Everything else i think the Extreme HD Kit is better than aluminum, even the drive shafts in that kit dont get ruined using self righting on a Rustler.

So does a guy have to worry about setting gear mesh on the newer models. Got 2 4x4 rustlers recently for my boys first one was just the basic 4x4 and the next one a few weeks later was the VXL version and they have a plastic clip that goes into that slot has a few different screw holes for different sized gears just tighten it up and says should be set. Is it best to eleminate that piece and set it?

Hi. Your videos are great so I wondered if you could help me.
I have converted a Cen GST 7.7 to a brushless 4S electric motor, which is fine.
But, this has a central gearbox, where the reverse was servo controlled.
I have converted it to work, in a fashion, but there are still difficulties with running the car
I hear I can install an open center diff and eliminate the gearbox, so the motor pinion drive will mesh directly with the center diff, which then connects to the front and rear dive shafts, so the motor then has direct drive.
I cannot find an instruction video on how to do this. Do you have any videos or links to step by step instructions on doing this. Or, can you email me the instructions and the parts I will need to make this happen.
The reason I want to do this is because the gearbox is now broken and difficult to repair, so having the open center diff, which is easy to access and maintain, would be much more appropriate for my needs.
Really hoping you can help and thank you in advance for any assistance
    Martin

I have a Slash 4x4 with a 1/8 scale 2650kv motor, running on 4s with MIP X Dutys. I'm still using the factory front and rear diff gears. I have ran it hundreds and hundreds of times over the past 5 years and I have NEVER broken a diff gear. So.... do you really think these "upgraded" diff gears are really doing anything for a set-up with a stock VXL motor, other than lightening your wallet?

I paid 80 just for saxox servo 1256 tg and another 200 for hobbywing max 8 system. 400 for the traxxas vxl 4wd or 300 for 2wd build is decent and will last forever on 2s and a little while on 3s. 700 aint shit. Some 8th scales cost 2 grand after you bullet proof them with all that m2c cnc aluminum shit. After all rpm suspension mods, quality body, gtr shocks, Mod 1 gears & upgraded transmission, set of tires. I might be over 800 and that doesn't include batteries. Thats another 100 easy for decent ones. I prefer gens ace or smc. 1000 is easy to do on a rc car if you want it to handle 6s and hit over 100 mph. You can run max 8 system in this heat on 4s with low temps as long as you want. Spend 300 and it will be broke in possibly one run and recommend keeping it on 2s and 3s for short runs under 10 minutes

In my years in RC, I’ve seen plenty of friends hitting tracks on off days, driving monster trucks on tracks, basher trucks, rally cars. RC is about fun and doing what you want to do in order to enjoy the hobby. I applaud tracks that allow bashers to have fun on tracks, it turns some into racers at their own pace. Might want to think about the broader picture next time.
