Solid as a rock. That's awesome. Mike Dirnt is fucking awesome. Not the virtuoso kind, but definitely creative. Best bass player in punk rock. My personal bass hero for sure.
True. He said it himself it has always been less about technique than to be the catchiest. His hooks are quite effective because I end up playing bass :-)
Written any songs? I've written hundreds, including successful ones that have widely been regarded as "great," strangely enough! Compared to getting out of bed to go to school or work, writing a good song isn't that hard. The major difference is that to spend 10 or 20 minutes writing a good song, you have to be INSPIRED. That's the "hard" part. Almost *everything* else in life is just a matter of enduring the drudgery and doing as you're told. Even buying expensive cars and big houses, just keep doing as you're told for a few decades and don't kill yourself. Wake up old instead of blowing your brains out, and there's your big house--no inspiration needed. Inspiration comes from a mixture of imagination (create ideas), hope (desire to appreciate your own creativity, a.k.a. "enthusiasm"), and skill (music theory, choice of chords/melody) and the rest is just trying to tie everything together so it flows nicely. It doesn't take much longer to write a good song than it does to play it!
@@devilsoffspring5519 inspiration is exactly what I lack and not just me ofc Imagination is the only thing that lacks, and that is the source of being original, cause with the other two you can arrange existing songs but not create your own :)
@@User-es2yz It isnt entirely. Maple IS brighter. They are small differences but they are notbfalse. Now what OS false is the claim that agathis for example sounds bad. which is bs. If you dont believe it try hearing an acoustic w a maple neck. I have heard it and man is it sharp
@@User-es2yz It matters for electric ones as well just not much. Theres a vid comparing different woods on an electric with a graph showing all the differences in harmonics and all.
ever so slight bit of overdrive, this sounds a little like the good old Sansamp. I have a Pete Wentz Squier but a Quarter Pounder installed in it so I may try getting that same bitey tone.
Interesting how un-interesting one instrument is by itself--yet, if it wasn't there, there would be a big "hole" in the song, something sadly missing. Thanks for posting!
Plus he uses a Fender P Bass :) it's really hard, if not impossible, to get the sound of a p bass out of any other bass, even if you have a jazz bass. It's all on the pickups, and, of course, the way you play. Mike uses picks in order to get that punchy tone too! Hope this helps :)
On Dookie, and most of their stuff afterward, yeah it's a problem. The bass is very low in the mix, and that's too damn bad. I have a good, full-range stereo and it's almost impossible to hear much of Mike's bass playing on American Idiot. 21CB is slightly better in that regard.
There are little flairs in the bass line that I never noticed after 10 years of listening to this damn album -___-
+Joe Skold This is how I felt when I first heard the Basket Case isolated track. It's so much busier than I imagined haha
+Ciaran Ward Lmao dude wtf I was looking through the comments on this video and found you here, but yeah dude love your covers.
Ciaran Ward welcome to paradise!!!!

Matt Freeman is the best punk bassist, but Mike dirnt is my biggest influence. His basslines from kerplunk to Nimrod are just outstanding

Idk tho i think the dead kennedys basist is right up there with mike but i still love him
Mike Dirnt is one of the biggest influences for me!
I love the bass and I really want to play it.
Ever end up playing it?
This was a LOT of fun to play along to on the guitar

mike what did I tell you about the damn janitors closet
Best bass tone in poppunk
awesome bass line but why is he posing with a bass in a janitors closet?
machusla macfhiodhbhuide Because why not?
machusla macfhiodhbhuide maybe he's the janitor
machusla macfhiodhbhuide he keeps the rhythm clean?
hes just that fucking cool
machusla macfhiodhbhuide
Why not? ITS MIKE FUCKING DIRNT
some heroes dont wear capes but some wear bass guitars in janitor closets
Didn't notice the bass followed the vocals on the chorus. Beautiful!!!
6:33 all of we want yo hear this
it would be sooo cool, if you upload more bass lines! i dont care, which one..but green day :D
or other ones :)
Thank you so much for uploading this, been waiting for someone to finally upload this.
Maple fretboard definitely. Rosewood or wenge or ebony doesn't have these highs :D
I love this tone by the way.
Tone wood is a myth

It's the fox! For acoustic instruments it obviously matters, not electric. You can easily dial in highs/mids/lows

It's the fox! And is it something you can’t just fix with eq?...
I really miss the G3
But this was recorded on a p bass...
OffsetSolid yeah he's saying this tone is nowhere near as good as the G3
i don't know if it would be possible to do one of "The Judge's Daughter" by Green Day, but if you could that would be awesome...
who else can play on this on bass?
This is phenomenal
i love this...i want to get an e-bass, too...i love the sound
mary kid Don't you mean a P-Bass (P as in Precision)
+MUD=_- that's what i mean 'xD
mary kid lol e-bass? it's a Fender Precision...

nice

How do you get that awesome palm muted tone?
Is there a reason he is posing in a janitors closet??

Can someone get an isolated bass track from uno dos or tre?
chilibro I’m afraid not... this was extracted from the Green Day video game. The latest on that game was 21st Century Breakdown
Yo can do that with an app called moises, it's pretty cool and (mostly) free!
Can someone tell me what he plays on the first riff after the 4th freet on the e string he plays some unnoticable fill
Hammer on from the 2nd fret of D sting to 3rd fret
Whats rhe name of the pedal are u using? D:
Daniel Daniel Lol, this is actually Mike Dirnt's bass... It was isolated from Rock Band. As for what pedal he uses, I don't have a clue.
Daniel Daniel He doesn't use any pedal, it's just the sound of his amp :) and if you hear any tubeish kinda distortion, it's just his amp
+Tomás Salvador The amp on American Idiot was an Ampeg SVT Blueline head, probably all tone knobs cranked.
+A.D Fairhurst An Ampeg? I had no idea
I hate how you can barely hear the bass most of the time in their original stuff

The basslines are pretty prominent on their early records atleast up until Insomniac.
Doesn't Match At All
Pretty much the way I play it
I mean, it's the studio recording ripped from Rock Band, so...
