No. I wanne see more from Mike.
gimme a free guitar bro
In my opinion, he is definitely one of thee greatest bass players of modern rock and in rock in general. Yeah he may play easy stuff in Green Day but when you listen to his bass playing in albums like Dookie he truly is one of the most underrated bass players of today.
Siappy hours made My dick goes on fire with that basslines
Yeah I agree. Mike is a good bassist. A lot of his bass lines are easy but his technique and style take a fair amount of talent. He's locked in with Tre, they never get sloppy at all. Plus his tone is awesome. It's warm, but he hits the strings hard and gets that bright spanky tone that cuts through.
Luther Beckett dirty rotten bastards
That's all I gotta say
Agreed. His bass lines are actually way more complicated than people think
Try to hear Insomniac!!
This is the only time I see him slapping.
That opening riff though
TheSkullyTons that ending line ain't too bad either
+TheSkullyTons noise
+Luis Cespedes You're noise
+Lookosone is just no sense octave progression and a b minor pentatonic scale...
Luis Cespedes you don't understand "fun" do you?
he talks as fast as he plays
Energetic dude.
That voice though.
All the coke
That’s talking fast? Are you a boomer?
He is a badass bassist...
I really didn't expect that voice from him, still a badass guy
Ido Zaks same when he sings backup he sounds like a badass he really just sounds like a dad
Ryan Bazail He is a dad.
Mike Dirnt is seriously underrated. People just assume he's okay because he plays with Green Day, which most people think of it as "simple".
Sure, that's arguable if you put'em up against bands like The Who or Led Zeppelin or Rush, but damnnnnn Mike is something else!
+Shadownet I always think green day could be a band with so awesome guitar, bass, drum etc stuff. Billie Joe is a actually a really, really good guitarist, he just doesn't show off that much, Tre is an awesome drummer, and Mike a really awesome bassist. But they're music is still my favourite... Ok I don't know if that has even made any sense
+Shadownet agree 100% He's an amazing and effective bass player. His lines are the best and fun to play...
+Travis Kingston well said
+BackToBassics ne should have been a thrash metal band, there he will have more freedom to show his creativity and skill but I guess but he seems to fine in green day.
I agree Mike is an amazing bassist
He can SLAP? I didn't know that!
Slapping is easy
James Guvercin And in that you are greatly mistaken.
Slapping can be easy, just as basic 4 chord songs on guitar are easy, or basic rythems on drums. It can be however a very diverse and difficult technique (look for my favourite Les Claypool with Tommy the Cat)
James Guvercin show us
Jack Hughes he also pops in 16
SomthingWorng every bass player should know how to slap. Even mark hoppus
not a fan of green day, but every time I see a video with Dirnt it's enjoyable. good bass playing, seems knowledgeable about the tech side of things as well.
People gotta understand that difficult is not synonymous to great. Sometimes, simplicity can make you great player. Mike Dirnt for example, you can see his fine skills on their early stuffs (39 smooth to Insomniac). Green Day songs can be easy to play but those are already classics.
It seems like most of the Greenday catalog does not show off Mike's true bass talents...with the exception of the last two albums. But he's got great speed and precision.
No One Knows is pretty good.
isnt that qotsa
+iwanttosmell no dummy. Green day did one too.
Their earlier stuff did
ba dum tss
Mike is an amazing guy and bass player. I truly appreciate him.
Damn Mike, why can't you put some of these riffs for Green Day songs? :P
***** probably. that one at 1:20 sounded a bit familiar.
I wish I could one day be like Mike. He's a fantastic performer, hella good looking and an incredible bassist. I seriously wonder how his arms don't get tired when churning all this stuff out on stage. Probably the best, and most underrated bassist of all time.
Playing bass doesn't really put your arm at work...
AtrumCimex
It doesn't for me, but I have seen videos of performances where Mike uses his arm a lot. I don't use my arm much in the same way that he does but it looked very tiring.
I use a pick around 85% of the time playing bass and I do all the big arm mouvements "for the fans" its not that bad, Im not even that fit
AtrumCimex
I usually use my fingers or thumb but a pick when I can be bothered. I would have thought that it would be difficult to keep control and accuracy when you're using large arm movements, but if it's easy then I shall give it a go!
Well, it's criticized for being the "wrong" way to play bass, but in the end it's just another way to play. Good luck!
It's funny how Billie went from "Fender" to Gibson, and Mike went from Gibson to Fender.
Billie never worked with fender tho, his blue strat is a Fernandes
@@allanrodriguez4547 he actually did get fender to make custom replicas of Blue aka his Fernandes. Mostly around the nimrod era and also in the 21stBD album
What a gem of a dude. I love how much you can tell he was genuinely invested in making this as awesome as he could down to the capacitors. F$@&ing bringing the A game. Love it 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I wish he'd start using an amp when they record/play live. Lmao, seriously though. The thing that makes me so upset is how low the volume of the bass is in Green Day's music. The bass line in When I come Around is awesome, but it's so hard to hear it, and it's loud compared to their newer stuff! I swear some songs there's not even bass!
He uses that 300 watt super bassman behind him. We can blame the low bass volume on UA-cam compression/gating and retarded sound engineers...
I just don't think he turns the volume up enough on his amp in the studio/playing live. If you listen to Rancid, you can hear Tim Armstrong's bass very clearly compared to Green Day. Also, I've seen both both Green Day and Weezer concerts, and with Weezer, you could hear the bass lines, and even hear it clearly when I recorded it with my iPhone. At the Green Day concert I went to, it was like Mike Dirnt was down in the casino during the concert or something. I mean, I could see him on stage playing, but he might as well of just put his bass down on the stage and stood there doing backup vocals, there would be no audible difference.
LukeyPooky28 you do realize that its actually the front of house guys that control his level, the bass amps on stage are more of tone not for volume, all the amps on stage are probably not even being used, thats just the way modern sound is setup these days
noah Watkins That's not the case in Rancid, man. Look up them playing Maxwell Murder live, and you'll see the role that the bass player in the band is.
LukeyPooky28 Tim armstrong doesnt play bass lol
That white bass he's showing is a legitimately worn bass. That's the one that got wrecked at iHeart radio
Jay Hard this was made before that happened
Oh, shit. I should have checked the date. Thanks.
+Jay Hard there's a video about Billie Joe's gear on tour and the guy giving the tour of the gear says that he fixed up the bass and the guitar that they broke at the iHeartradio festival and still use it today
I didn't even know that. That bass I want it for a 5 string version of this. I won't wreck my guitars easily.
I listen to Green Day for years ("duh dude, we see your profile pic") but at some point, one day at random, i pay attention to the bass for the fist time... and i realize how much i love it and how much of the sound comes from there. Since then i have huge respect for Mike Dirnt.
1:20 that's the bass that mike dirnt smashed at iheart radio
I started to play bass because of mike!!
Underrated bassist
I just got one of the Squire 50s Classic Vibe P Basses and I am really impressed. Great build quality and plays great.
I watch this video over and over every now and then and i have no idea why
What's unique about Green Day is that most of the guitar tracks only take a few power chords but usually the bass and drum tracks are very fast paced with multiple fills.
Like Mike, I was a "really great mediocre guitarist" switched to bass and felt right at home playing and writing songs. I think having that guitar background influences his style with all the chords and hammer-ons he plays here for ex. 1:20 as I kind of do the same thing quite a bit and don't usually play typical bass lines. I'm not even a huge Green Day fan but Dirnt is such a great guy and I love this bass. It's high up on my want list.
I've seen that opening bass line like 10 times now, and it still impresses me
Such a cool guy, humble..
I'm a big fan of green day and mike have been for years . love his basses . wish it came left handed
bring these back!! I want one so bad!
I don´t know why I like this video so much. Maybe is because of Mike and all his awesomeness
Right on MIKE! I dont even play bass but I do love your band and your playing ! That was enough for me to watch this video. I bet the basses are fantastic.
Keep on rocking Bro!
Bay Area Green Day Fans salute you!!
How come he doesn't play like that in Green Day?
+The Tempestrom And The Aftermath Thereof Kerplunk, Dookie and Insomniac have some incredible basslines.
+The Tempestrom And The Aftermath Thereof Because Green Day is originally a Punk rock band and that kind of playin' that he did is a slappy style and can be used only in Funk or Funk rock !!
+Cool Joker Or metal... Mudvayne...
Check out Stuck With Me.
mcluigi117 Also 'Chump' 'Welcome to Paradise' 'Longview' 'Dirty Rotten Bastards' 'Make out Party' 'Prosthetic Head' and 'The Grouch', 'Castaway', 'Last of American Girls', 'Stray Heart' !
Just bought the white version with the maple fretboard. When it arrived it was already set up perfectly all I had to do was tune it. Plugged in, its become one of the best sounding basses I own. Well worth the money
i have his bass and its very awesome the sound the wood every in this bass are awesome , and i love green day , the slap for mike are awesome!!!
Just got the signature model in white, plays like a dream!
Im not a huge green day fan, but I like to watch these videos! Holy crap this man can play. It has an amazing sound too!!
I didn’t realize that Mike is as good of a bassist.
man...they are all holding their skills back :) i saw a video where tre plays jazz...man he has really great feel... and billie is great guitarist and singer :)
he's so beautiful and a hell of a bass player
Man….he was surprisingly sharp in that demonstration. Mind you, I know nothing about the guy beyond his profession but most players going over their signature lines are kind of spaced out. Some sound like they’re reading from a prompt. He presented that bass like he is part of the marketing team. Much respect.
He's as underrated as any international superstar can possibly be
I want Mike to really show off his skills in GDs new album. He's a badass bassist and can play some crazy shit.
thanks man I think im definitely going to it looks like a huge amount of fun and music is a passion of mine mike dirnt really inspired me to want to learn the bass
Ah I listened to the radio didn't even know Green Day .But I loved the songs and music they put out and became a 62 yr old groupie but then u blessed my son Nathan with a job. I became more interested in Mike and the band i took guitar lessons at 13 but now at 62 retired I want to see you all in concert and learn to play the bass like ave of broken dreams and dookie album. From a grateful mother's heart Green Day forever!!! P.S. please don't get embarrassed Nathan because I wrote this
is it weird i have a fender road aswell bcus mike dirnt is my fav green day dude
Built like a Ford F-150 but looks like a Chevy. GREATEST ANALOGY EVER!
I've never been a fan of Green Day, but this guy is a good bass player and do knows how to sell this awesome bass!
Great review!
That bass has incredible tone.
Sounds and looks good!
He is the most underrated bassist ever
He is my most favorite bassist besides Paul McCartney,John Deacon and Cliff Burton
That is badass looking bass!!!!
bruh mike be SLAPPIN 😳🤚🏼
*my favorite bassist of all time*
one of the best bass players of all time.
such a cool dude
It really amazes me how in Green Day he holds back his true talent so much and then the fuckin opening riff here, damn
I gotta have this in the white blonde! The perfect P bass with a maple neck and the '59 pickups.
Some of those Green Day basslines are badass!!
I had never seen his slap!I wanna listen more!
I really love this guy
1:20 - 1:27 I like it :)
What's the song?
what song?
I want the white with black pickguard! Looks so punk rock
He's so underrated
Madre mía! Qué guapo está el bajo, si tuviera pasta me lo pillaba, está guapísimo. Por cierto, qué bien toca Mike, es la hostia
I was surprised that he opened the video with slapping. It's not entirely surprising that he knows how to do it, it's just so far outside of the realm of music that Green Day dwells in, especially since the bass isn't a huge part of their sound.
Dominic Van Divner well u should listen to longview, welcome to paradise then
The new bass sounds awesome
Mike is a great bass player.
The man is a talented bass player!!!
He kinda looks likes vladimir putin
Oh my god... Your right
ferd norbert I think Mike's of Russian descent....
Monopoly Bear lmao
He looks like my science teacher when he has a beard
"He kinda looks likes vladimir putin"
sry, no, he doesn't. not at all.
because Mike Dirnt doesn't blow up a houses with ~1700 people sleeping inside.
I bought this bass and I absolutely love it.
🤘🎸😎
@@fender do you guys know where mike got the sticker next to his bridge? because I've looked for it everywhere and cant seem to find it to put on my signature. thanks!
Mike dirnt "rockstar" one greatest😮 bass players of all the times ❤
Thanks for the straightforward tone talk, Dirnt! Shoutout for sexy Chevys!!
Da poshyoll on na hooy. Vzyal ba URAL vmesto Fender🌝
i don't know anything about guitars but yooooo that's dope
1:20 what is it? :o its nice
i know!
Francesco Taranto
hahaha liked that one.
Francesco Taranto yes it’s Fsus2 and A5
seems cool. saw green day live a few years back. was a good time. not the biggest fan really, but mike's pretty cool and really seems to know his shit. his sig basses have always been sweet as well :S
He sounds like my algebra teacher...he's damn good at that bass though..
What a nerD I love him
How cute is Mike Dirnt like wow
Mike loves his tube bridge
He looks younger and younger every year ! Is that the power of ROCK ;) ?
This P Bass seems to be really awesome sounding, I wish he played it "more" in the video ...
I like that he knows his instrument
Awesome
Mike's sideburns are so fucking cool everytime
Contrary to what ol' Mike says here - My Badass II bridge totally failed me. The grub screws all rusted out. Actually, I play my bass every day, gig it once/twice a week and NEVER clean it. I guess I failed it, really.
but remember his solos back in the 39/kerplunk times, they were amazing rock n roll solos.
I didn’t know Mike could play slap bass. That’s fucking sick
mike doing some slap.. cool man!
I'd like Mike to play slapping on record.
My old high school had a precision or jazz bass (I believe it was fender) and that thing was legitimately worn down. Dirty, chipped paint, exposed wood, and it was awesome. Although I don’t see the point in the intentionally “warn down” look.
Never thought mike would slap
I might play bass guitar, I've already been playing guitar for 5 years! If I do I'm getting Mike's P bass.
Всё больше, и больше хочу - Fender Road Worm Mike Dirnt Signature Precision Bass 🎸😆
¡Qué buen bass!
Yeah I did go off track, yes they were good at one thing but they really did a great job doing their thing.
This beast is tame as hell in this video
Hella cool
Mike is such a likeable dude
