Lyrics:
[Part 1]
I'm the son of rage and love
The Jesus of Suburbia
From the bible of none of the above
On a steady diet of
Soda pop and Ritalin
No one ever died for my sins in hell
As far as I can tell
At least the ones I got away with
And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In a land of make believe
That don't believe in me
Get my television fixed
Sitting on my crucifix
The living room or my private womb
While the Moms and Brads are away
To fall in love and fall in debt
To alcohol and cigarettes and Mary Jane
To keep me insane,
Doing someone else's cocaine
And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In a land of make believe
That don't believe in me
[Part 2: City Of The Damned]
At the center of the Earth
In the parking lot
Of the 7-11 where I was taught
The motto was just a lie
It says home is where your heart is
But what a shame
Cause everyone's heart
Doesn't beat the same
It's beating out of time
City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care
I read the graffiti
In the bathroom stall
Like the holy scriptures of the shopping mall
And so it seemed to confess
It didn't say much
But it only confirmed that
The center of the earth
Is the end of the world
And I could really care less
City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care
[Part 3: I Don't Care]
I don't care if you don't
I don't care if you don't
I don't care if you don't care
[X4]
I don't care
Everyone is so full of shit
Born and raised by hypocrites
Hearts recycled but never saved
From the cradle always to the grave
We are the kids of war and peace
From Anaheim to the middle east
We are the stories and disciples
Of the Jesus of suburbia
Land of make believe
And that don't believe in me
Land of make believe
And I don't believe
And I don't care!
I don't care! [x4]
[Part 4: Dearly Beloved]
Dearly beloved are you listening?
I can't remember a word that you were saying
Are we demented or am I disturbed?
The space that's in between insane and insecure
Oh, therapy, can you please fill the void?
Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed
Nobody's perfect and I stand accused
For lack of a better word, and that's my best excuse
[Part 5: Tales Of Another Broken Home]
To live and not to breathe
Is to die In tragedy
To run, to run away
To find what you believe
And I leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
I lost my faith to this
This town that don't exist
So I run
I run away
To the light of masochist
And I leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
And I walked this line
A million and one fucking times
But not this time
I don't feel any shame
I won't apologize
When there ain't nowhere you can go
Running away from pain
When you've been victimized
Tales from another broken home
You're leaving...
You're leaving...
You're leaving...
Ah you're leaving home...

I repeated this song too many times when I was 13 without caring what the lyrics mean. Now I'm 26, the lyrics hits hard especially in this part:

Imagine Green Day perform "Jesus of Suburbia,"
My Chemical Romance perform "Welcome to the Black Parade,"
and Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody" in one concert.
It would be a theatrical concert masterpiece.
Salatiel Jyrus Tumanan that would be the best
Bohemian rhapsody would have to be with Freddy. Queens not the same without him
And Stairway to Heaven of Led Zeppelin, don't forget November Rain of GNR, then it could be the best concert ever.

what I love is that every member of this band playing their incredible performance.
I wonder what it was like experience that crowd back then I think up until that point that was the biggest concert they had done. I always thought Green Day was a very admirable rock band, they definitely deserved to be in the rock and roll hall of fame because their legacy is just huge really. They’ve been around since before I was born and I’m like almost 30 I remember watching this concert when I was like 10
They are empty and stupid, no ofense! but you can come to Jesus! and peace and undertanding comes to you. God bless you, see you in heaven!!!

I remember when Jesus of Suburbia and American Idiot came out back in 2004 was it? It was so ahead of its time in every aspect back then. I mean, putting out a 9 minute song as a single was simply unheard of at the time. The teens loved it for the lyrics about the struggles and pains of being a misplaced and forgotten youngun, and their parents loved it too for its melodic choruses and catchy lyrics. Green day was probably the first ever punk(ish) band to really break through the mainstream across several generations. I remember listening to this album over and over with my little brother, mom and dad driving on vacation from Denmark to Italy. Singing along to boulevard of broken dreams with my whole family in the car is one of my most precious childhood memories. 12 years later and probably still the greatest Rock album of the 21st century
November Rain?
Quite sure that was a 9 minute song... not too sure though, been a while since I heard it.
Yeh November rain was 9 mins
I'd say for the time back then 9 minutes was very unheard of but I wouldn't it was ahead of its time I mean if you look at old great rock songs they are pretty long
maybe unheard of for green day, progressive rock/rock in the 70's have tracks of even 20 minutes : )))
but that's a power ballad. "November Rain" and "Jesus of Suburbia" are quite different in all meaning and feeling.
This is quite possibly the greatest song to come out of the 2000s.
This is definitely the best green day era too.

One of the few bands that every member is known and loved equally.
Every time I feel shit, I come here and watch this video. This video alone reminds me of why they've been my favourite band for the past ten years and I feel so inspired by Billie's performance every single time. One of the best front-men to ever exist!
aww yeah so true
You feel shit? You mean poopy jk
the harmony of voices in the "I don't care if you don't" part is just so perfect I can't even
The name of the part is "I Don't Care" and it's my favorite part 'cause it's so catchy
It's my favorite part because of their set here where Mike and Jason sing it
6:40 I still get goosebumps at Mike's bass solo and the beginning of Tales of Another Broken Home. And just a killer visual edit on this part of the song. They were doing the glitchy, scattered kind of edit a decade and a half before it was in vogue. The whole film is a masterclass in concert filmmaking.
@cole norum -same here, man. Badass. I remember back in the day trying to show anyone who would look & listen, pieces from this dvd i just got, to share the masterpiece. i was absolutely fascinated. JOS being the ultimate hi light…bumps at start of Mike’s baseline, like you said..everytime, still.
they have been 15 years ahead of the game in a lot of things, especially the brilliant insights into society in their music
I remember when American Idiot came out. No words can explain the grip it had on everyone in the rock/emo/goth/punk/alternative communities it was like GTA V of music. People who never owned a GD album before rushed out to get it and played it to death. MTV aired video debuts and BTS of the videos. This performance takes me back to those days. 20 years of American Idiot 🤘🏻

Good band yes, but wouldn't say best. Good for this generation.
Mr Psychotic Genius No, its the best :p
I guess it's good that you think they are the best and not One Direction or some shit like that. I just think they are the best of this past decade.
I agree. I mean there are a lot of bands out there. but i personally think that Green Day are obviously up there.. They let teenagers in my time grow up to be awesome sons o' bitchez man. That proves a lot on one band..
Mr Psychotic Genius yeah I think they are a fantastic band and they had two like really really big great albums in both decades (dookie, american idiot) among their other underrated or relatively "unknown" albums like nimrod, insomniac and even warning and kerplunk ^^. Just wish they hadn't made the trilogy because it kinda brings the band down as a whole even though it shouldn't really matter. Once a great band then it stays that way. But I hope the next album if there is one will be better. Less filler, less overproduced, better written and with the original green day sound. But demolicious was a stepup again from the trilogy so I'm hoping for the best.
My ex and i saw the band on the American Idiot tour. I might add, I've seen MANY concerts in my 66 years of age, and this was the best ever! The amount of energy these guys put into their performance is something I've never seen. Green Day is the BEST! 8:37 ❤

SAME!!! And for them to make a new album.
PunkRock Pony they are
Really? OMG YES!!!!!
this band just makes me cry everytime I hear it. This band made my childhood. I fucking love this band. Being a 15 year old I never understood these lyrics clearly. I used to vibe on the music and base guitar unaware of what it really meant. Now, being 25 yrs old whenever I hear this band and this song especially, I can feel the music and the lyrics, the energy, the message this song meant to give. Truely, legend. I LOVE THIS BAND. Best Fucking band when it comes to live performances Period!
i'm 28 and i'm going thru the same thing as you with this
when we are young we enjoying the music,
when we getting older we understand the lyrics.
I am so glad to see people coming here in 2019. There's still hope in reincarnation of the good old music in this age of mumble rappers and fake pop stars.
❤️
👍
Everybody that enjoys this music has to pick up an instrument and try to get people to start listening to actual music again
I totally agree. The state of music today is beyond pathetic. We need a new rock revival. A rock revolution.
@@bleep77 not really, people listen to what they like
Why does Tre always look like he is happy
Megan B he probably is..I mean who would not be, he’s the best drummer of this goddamn generation
Support Cannibalism your right
If I remember correctly while filming this awesome concert DVD Tre cool was snorting donut sprinkles and smoking lettuce.
If you don't get this reference I suggest you watch bullet in a Bible as quickly as you can
Tre is our little happy boyo
bc he gets to see billie's face all day
Always hits in the soul, this band is a product of the 90s and showing how it seeped into the new millennium and into that generation, amazing rebel figure for me, also they sound exactly like their studio quality
i'm currently learning this song on guitar!! this one's probably my favorite Green Day song, but it's hard to pick because all their music is amazing.
It 2011 in Faridabad, India. I was in my high school and was struggling to get even passing grade in my classes. In India that simply means that you are a burden in the society and on earth. It was the reason why my parents were fighting all the time and were saying things which one could only say out of filled haterade for someone. This obviously took a huge toll on my mental state. There was a point in my life where my 15 year old brain was thinking that all of it is because of me, and if I took out myself in this, then there would be no chaos. And eventually, the thought of suicide starting coming in my mind. I even had bought Cyanide (very easy to buy in India) and was researching on how to use it.
But then one day (the day I was actually planning to take the cyanide), I heard this music on my neighbor's loud speaker. I didn't understand english back then. But the voice and the music was telling me to NOT GIVE UP! It was asking me to fight. And fight like hell. I was an extremely introvert kid back then but this was the first time I took the courage to go to my neighbor's place and ask him the name of the music to which he said, "Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day". And that song changed my life FOREVER! I listened this music on loops for my entire high school time.
Long story short, On this December, I am graduating from a top American university with a degree in Computer Science. I have already contributed in 4 scholar articles. I invested the money I earned while working under one of my professors and have almost enough money to start my own small scaled company once I graduate.
None of this would have been possible if that day Green Day wouldn't have come to save my life!
The moral of the story is………………NEVER GIVE UP
Proud of you random stranger!
Crazy how a Song can change Life
"No one ever died for my sins in hell, as far as I can tell, at least the ones I got away with it"
if i was one of the 65k people at this moment (6:06) i would be able to die happy.. this song is lyrical beauty and the song is broken up into instrumental masterpieces. good run green day
I am going to a visit their concert in january. Its my first rockconcert ever and I hope it will be legen...wait for it...dary xD
And I hope they will play this Song. Its my favourite
Luna Moon enjoy that my friend! i'm not lucky enough to see them where i live

One of the best bands in the world in my opinion
there still going strong bitch
i looked this up because i thought they died. I haven't heard from them in awihle... maybe they just dont make this kind of music anymore?? I remember watching this concert on youtube a few weeks after it came out on DVD and wanting to see them live in 2005 or 2006.. never actually did though and i regret it. They were on top of the WORLD then. This is the best song i've ever heard in my life and it brought up all the same emotions it did 13 years ago.
This whole concert especially on dvd got me through life after my dad died at 9 still makes me feel so many different things good and bad ❤was therapy for me 😂forever be my favourite band ever ❤
literal billie joe moment, rip king
This song is a masterpiece. Weather you hate or love this band you'd have to agree
this is why I love Green Day. They have so much energy when they perform and you can see the fun they're having on stage. I've never seen a band perform with so much energy like Green Day
ACDC .
Tre is really cool.
It's a pun, laugh.
Irmak Bekiroğlu Lolz, funny.
Irmak Bekiroğlu Goddammit Barb!
+Irmak Bekiroğlu 10/10
The pun should be "Tre cool" is "really cool" because très means really/very in french XD
+Irmak Bekiroğlu I see what you did there. You silly goose.
Legit one of, if not, the greatest live tours of all time.
I was around when this song was released... much younger... It still makes tears run down my face.. and my anger reemerge
I never got the fuss behind Green Day and I considered them another teenage punk band but I must admit they have the most fun playing their instruments and the delivery is so honest I can't take my eyes of their live shows, drummer is extremely precise, Billie is a ridiculously good frontmen and he does a great job at handling some of the rhythm guitar sections while singing some tricky vocal lines and their bassist is really well aware of everything going around him and follows them perfectly...I need to see them live.
did you see them live on the revrad tour?
You are the nicest hater I have ever seen. Thanks.
I've seen Green Day live. They are literally the sharpest band I've seen live. Always keeps the audience engaged. Tre Cool is Green Day's biggest weapon.
