Instead of that stretch (impossible to do with my left hand), i learned to do that harmonic with a quick move of my right hand: i press the second fret with the left hand and put my right thumb on the sixth fret while pulling with the index or middle finger, it's surprisingly functional, but hard to get it on time, since it has to be a fast movement, but at least you get the sound right
instead of that crazy stretch (my hands are definitely too small), I'm finding the false harmonic with my plucking hand near the pickups on the A string easier to play (like a pinch harmonic) and it still lets it ring out, and I can still keep my fretting hand down in that area
at around 16:07, the harmonics where there is a dificult switch from first finger to ring finger, it is much easier if you start with the ring finger on 7th fret e string, and play the harmonic on the 7th fret of g string with pinky, but use your pointer finger to play the harmonic on the 4th fret of the d string. it is the same note and requires no tricky switch
This is a great video, thanks for making this! I'm using this video to try and learn the song but at the part that starts around 13:00, how do you stop the E string from buzzing? I feel like because of the crazy finger stretches at this part, its much harder to get a good tone without any buzz and was wondering if there's any special tips or tricks to it. (also where'd you get that awesome pickguard?)
when you’re playing this song btw go far back on the bass with your right hand like he is or the harmonics won’t ring out good (at least not on my bass) because before i moved my hand back i couldn’t get that third fret to ring for the life of me
You need to incorporate the A string in the final chord. Just extend the index finger bar, and the pinky bar. (the notes going down in pitch are G# D# A#). And those two harmonics starting at 19:30 aren't correct.
I think Jaco plays the A,D and G string false harmonic there. Also I think it's really pumped up in the studio. I don't think I've ever even seen Jaco play those last harmonics live!
@@BassSeries hey how are you? I was playing in Gainesville Florida a contracted gig through an agent that book Spyro gyra, Night Ranger and other bands and Jocko just came in and kind of took over he played drums he sang we did them changes by Buddy Miles and Birdland because we were a jazz band chateau look it up on UA-cam under Chateau Breakers and tell me what you think of our old record please, anyway we drank tequila we played till 3:00 in the morning and then I met his wife and his son's a year later in Tampa at my other gig she just showed up randomly and blew my mind of course I told her the story and told the little 5-year-old beautiful boys I want to see them again and see if they remember that
@@BassSeries yessir it was our gig in Gainesville FL .Chateau jazz fusion valeric groupe....look on UA-cam under Chateau "Breakers" tell me opine please 40 year anniversary now! What a beautifully explained lesson…might I also add….that Jazz Bass is an absolute work of art with that pick guard!!!
I like the pickguard even more than the bass these days
where did you get that pickguard ?@@BassSeries
@7:18, it should be harmonics on (9) (9) and (12) on the A, D, and G strings respectively, before fretting the 11th on the E string
Yes, you absolutely right! I was ready to mention it too, but you already did that. 🤝
Came here to say the same thing

Yeah, I'll say it too! Thank you so much for this video. Insanely helpful and very clear. I second everyone on how beautiful your pick guard is

I noticed fretting the first fret on the d string puts the harmonic closer to picking position and it rings out better
What a beautiful bass!
Thanks!

That's a BEAUTIFUL instrument.. LOVE the inlay
Just what I needed, thank you, very well done
This was a very nice gift, thank you
Phenomenal, thank you! ✌️
Glad you liked it!

Thank you a lot, lot, lot!!!!
Excellent lesson
You explained this so well. 😢
Thanks a lot man. 👍🏼
thank you! 🎉🎉🎉👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Very nice sir!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you bro ...
Eq settings for the sound? I have a jazz bass but the low pressed down notes overpower everything.
Edit: nvm you get into it at 2:15

So that difficult stretch is a false harmonic?
Umut abi türkçe olarak ayrı bir video yayınlasan süper olur be🙂

Thanks boss
Perfect 😮
🤟
does anyone know why the last harmonic sound so quiet?

helpfull! (i still cant do the stretch from 2 to 6)
Be careful about your wrist position. Dont push it too hard, give it time
👏👏👏🥰
👍👌♥️
where can I get a pickguard like that?
It is a custom thing called Alperious. You can find him on Instagram easily. Wooten uses one as well.
I can hit harmonics, but not these...played drums with Jaco for 5 hours....
that is actually very cool. What was it, a gig?

Seems ok, but..... you should have played the entire piece continuously to show that it is possible and not just theoretically how it goes 🤷🏽♂️
There is a performance video on the channel. Check it out
@@BassSeries will do!
Wrong :(
Your fingers is like "Xen Tree" from half life game, especially your f... pinky xD
Lol thats a first
this is an amazing lesson, thank you!
