    I’m just like you with the sound and why I’m going with the S&S 475c cam. Some people think that’s stupid to choose a cam for those reasons but I disagree. If I’m paying with my money I want it to sound like how I want it to sound. My warranty won’t be up till next April but I’m going with the whole S&S 475 cam kit with a Jackpot 2-1-2 header, S&S stealth air breather with a dyna jet power vision tuner. Already have the Tabs mufflers w/ zombie baffles on it now. Ride safe enjoyed the video

    465 cam is perfect for the 107, and the 475 is better for the 114, 117, and up. The 107 has shorter legs. LOL. Great video sir. I had the 465 cam in my 107 softail standard. made that 107 very explosive at lower rpm. My new 107 equipped Road glide is gonna get the Zippers 468 cam. Its about right down the middle between the 465, and 475.

    Good topic (S&S 475 and S&S 465 cams) & video. My combination I have on my '21 Road Glide, RDRS equipped, Stage-2 114: S&S 2-1 Sidewinder Exhaust (w/cat); S&S 465c cam (full S&S Cam Chest Kit); Fuel Moto # 3956 Air Cleaner Kit (w/stock ventilator outer cover); Trask M8 Checkvent; HD Fan (added to oil cooler); stock intake manifold & injectors; and Dynojet PV3B Tuner (Map by Fuel Moto). Have a ported S&S 55mm Intake Manifold but haven't install yet. My configuration runs excellent & pulls hard from just off idle and well past 4000rpm. On a recent ride, total about 120 miles, knocked down 46.4mpg cruising mostly at 70 mph on the freeway with some in-town cruising. All in all, pretty satisfied for now with the all around performance.

    Adding to my comment (below): Good analysis, type of riding and where each S&S Cam (475 / 465) has it's strengths. Lot of my riding is local here in So. Cal. (beach, mountains, curves, city stop & go; and occasionally some highway cruising). A few of my friends are running the S&S 475 Cam and they sound good. My 465 cam does have some "chop" cam note in the exhaust, and is very similar to the 475 cam. Future possible mod: S&S 131 Stroker Kit (4.625" Stroke / 4.250" Bore) and either the S&S 540 Cam or S&S 550 Cam with other supporting mods. (64mm Intake manifold, upgraded compensator, upgraded clutch, possible chain drive conversion, etc.). Ride safe brother.

    Adding a cam will not change your rpm/speed ratio. It will give you more torque so you don't have to downshift as often. You can go from a stock 107 and drop a 131 crate motor in it, if you ran 2500rpm at 70, your still going to run 2500rpm at 70 unless you change gearing or belt pullys

    I have the S&S 465C and it doesn’t matter what speed you’re at for comparison because all the cams perform at speed, miles per hour, it’s where the Rpm power comes in at and falls off at that makes a difference between the two cams. The 465 C you can blast off from idle without having to rev the bike first to get power from a stop. I don’t have to slip the clutch at all. It pulls all the way up to 5500 RPMs like crazy. Do I need to shift at 6000 RPM like you can with the 475C?, I don’t think it’s necessary to rev the motor that high. The lower Rpm power gain and the sound difference from stock makes the 465C an awesome cam. As far as the Idle lope sound goes, both S&S cams sound exactly the same. I like the reliability of the lower lift cam on the valve train. Roll-on power with the 465C is awesome at any Miles per hour below 5000 RPMs. I can ride over 100 miles per hour and cruise there with no problem.

      I got the 465 on my Road Glide. Peak Torque at 2000rpm and I shift around 5000 rpm. No regrets whatsoever. It also sounds better than the 475 IMO. The potatopotatopotato sound of a twin cam comes through the 465 more than the 475. Instant torque even if you're lugging in the wrong gear

      465 is a great cam, especially for 2 up and for those not planning any other modifications. I went with the 475 due to the fact I knew I wanted to add displacement. That 465 doesn’t really support a bump, definitely wouldn’t put it in the 124 kit I went with.

  • @TM-sn1oz

    I forgot to keep in mind that you are comparing both size cams for your size motor only (the 114). I have the 107 ci. and the 465C sounds so hot and lopey, I love surprising everyone with blasting off from a stoplight at idle without having to rev the motor. Never having to worry about stalling the motor. If I had installed the 475C in my motor, I would have to give it some more throttle to take off, which I don't like having to do. If I had the 114 ci, I would definitely do the 475C, because the 114 already has higher torque in stock form, with larger bores and longer crank/rods, so it is able to better accept the higher lift 475C cam and still have good low end torque. Both cams make for a great lopey sound, but the 465C is more suitable for the 107 and is very lopey. The benefit of not having to rev from a start will make it a quicker start from a green light.

    I commented before. So to all: Having now run my 107ci motor with the 465C for a year now, I'm needing a new rear tire from spinning when the light turns green. Acceleration is great and linear but would like more pull at the top end. If the 475 pulls more at the top than the 465C, I'd go with that, since the bottom end is so great, why not make the top end great too? S&S suggests the 465 for the 107motor and the 475 for the 114. I am convinced that either would work just fine in the 107, especially if you upgrade the air cleaner, have FP3 and free flow mufflers. Rode my friends new bone stock Fat Boy 114 and my 107 with the 465C is faster in every way. Either cam you go with, do it, you won't be sorry.

I know they hear it but it's not earth shattering. With the original zombie baffles I love the sound while riding, but it got way too loud late at night or really early in the mornings when I fired it up around my neighbors or riding through town. With these I feel absolutely comfortable and it sounds amazing. I will certainly get some drive-bys for you guys soon. Thanks for the comments and best of luck with your new cam. Thanks Scott! I’m in Vermont and a lot of my riding is 2 lane back roads I guess you could say. Usually anywhere from 40-50 mph. If I wanted a little more power and response, I could just cruise in 3rd gear instead 4th correct? Even so, like you said, it’s not a race bike and I’m sure it’s still way more power then stock in the 2500-3000 range. Thanks 👍🏻

      @aggie12thman121993  2 роки тому +1

      @@ethanpersons1588 Yes, but you get the power kick around 2800 RPMs all the way to redline.....It's an insane kick....but under 2800 it feels like normal stock, like I said that's so quick because your RPMs jump from 1800 - 3000 pretty quick in the lower gears. At 40 to 50 mph I would probably be in third gear consistently. I'd say my fourth gear is more in the range of 55 to 65. This is kind of nice because in that lower gear when you hit it it's going to jump. My third gear transitions so quickly.... meaning I go from 40 mph to 60 instantly. If you're looking for power after you're already at speed this is the cam to go with for sure. If you're looking for power at dead stop to 60 mph then perhaps the 465 is the way to go. I like to ride the roads much more than I do stop and go traffic thus I chose the 475.

      @aggie12thman121993  2 роки тому +1

      @@ethanpersons1588 I did on the dyno, but I personally believe people read into those numbers way too much. Meaning maximum torque numbers and maximum horsepower numbers are coming way high in the RPM range. Granted there is a bump in the lower RPM ranges as well but you're talking 10% maybe at best and it's noticeable as you ride but not as noticeable as on a chart. The noticeable changes as you ride are the gearing changes and acceleration from 2800 RPM and beyond. If you're looking at a Dyno chart you can't feel that...... What I'm trying to get at, is when you start riding you're not gonna even think about your Dyno charts at all. The biggest impact you're going to have are the gearing changes and acceleration. It's that simple. If you start reading into the Dyno charts too much you will go crazy to some extent trying to squeeze out performance in every single inch of your rpm range. The fact of the matter is you have to choose between one or the other ......low end torque or high end torque performance. For me since I ride on the back roads mostly I've preferred the higher end torque performance improvements because that's where I live most of the time when I'm on my bike. If you're in stop and go traffic then you may want that low in torque to give you a little bit of an acceleration bump right out of the gate. It's really that simple and looking at Dyno charge is going to drive you nuts. My opinion!

It was my belief to let the engine have better airflow but with that being said there are some back pressure issues that are causing lower torque than is possible. However I go back to what I've always said but I think a lot of people rant and rave over a few percentage points. I had 128 foot pounds of torque in 111 hp on the Dyno.... For sure! Trade offs. Clearly the original cam from the factory is set up for the best fuel mileage possible. My goal in getting the new cam was two fold, one I just absolutely love the sound. Two, I want a little bit more acceleration at higher speeds to get around traffic. On a 2 Lane Highway I like to get around vehicles pretty quickly. I can't stand being in blind spots or hanging around where somebody can't see me so being a little more aggressive helps me to be visible and get in front of them then I'll slow back down and get back to a steady pace. This cam really helps me jump past the traffic. There is no question I'm losing fuel mileage. It really doesn't bother me. I look at it as a good trade-off

    If you're on the highway at 70-75 in 6th gear, will it still pull (not racing, but to get around an irradic driver, etc.)? I have the 475C kit and plan on installing as soon as the weather breaks here in Ohio. However, I just spoke with Fuel Moto and they said I will have to downshift two gears to pass. Looking at charts, I feel that this is hard to believe since the torque and power are better than the stock version regardless.

      I have the M8 114.......the Fuel Moto guys are completely inaccurate. First off, you will not be in 6th gear at 70-75....You will be in 5th....that's the biggest change with the cam is the gearing changes completely. You will be running around 3000-3200 rpm at 70-75 in 5th gear.......You certainly will not need to downshift out of 5th to accelerate very quickly around a car at 75mph. VERY Quickly! You will be running 80-85 in 6th at 3000 rpm. Don't listen to them at all.....Obviously they don't have "Real" world experience.

      @@aggie12thman121993 I find it hard to believe Fuel Moto would say anything like that. They are one of the best out there. Also you need to know those power duals are leaving a ton of power on the table. They sound good but are terrible for power. It's a well known fact by many tuners. Just a heads up.

      @@krl023 Just speaking to what i witness daily on my bike. "Leaving a ton of power? My numbers are as follows......Max HP 112 and torgue 128.........If a ton of power if left on the table, I'd love to see it. Like I said before, I think people get too wrapped up in performance charts.....I love the pull of my bike at any speed but especially from 2800 rpm and up....it's insane!

    I just seen the part of the video where you said the cam change changed your gearing, had to rewind it and yep thats what you think lol. You know nothing about the internals of a motorcycle thats apparent

    Well, you just lost a viewer. I initially thought you may understand what you are talking about.
    The absurd claim that a cam change will change gearing shows differently.

      Honestly Mike, you are the one mistaken. I have the CAM in my bike, I damn well know how much the gearing has changed. You sound like someone who just likes to argue....Good riddens.
