I think this shift is a positive overall, modern Minecraft versions are more stable and have a much better quality of life. However I am kind of sad that the old pvp is dying out. Skywars on Hypixel is a sweaty gamemode now :(

I think minecraft is so incredibly unique and sandboxy that it will contiunue to be super popular as long as it receives updates. I think Hypixel probably will eventually catch onto the trend, switching the base server to a newer version, and make new minigames to draw in people. I think if Hypixel switches and ads combat games, youtubers that play those are more likely to stay on hypixel and promote it and it's new games. Well made video and definitly subscribing!

I dont think I’d play, 1.8 is still one of the easiest games to run. Minecraft used to be playable on almost any computer without lag, nowadays anything above 1.16 can have like 10FPS on older computers. Especially on servers.
1.8 combat was fun because of many different aspects, you had rod spamming, W tapping for knockback, comboing etc, it was fast paced too which meant it wouldn't get boring quickly. In 1.9, things are SLOW and it's ANNOYING. Now Crystal PVP is the only way to give such a high damage output in a short amount of time. You have too much overpowered stuff too like Totems of Undying and Elytras and Netherrite Armour. in 1.8 things were simpler because it was easy to get into but hard to master and when you did master it, it was rewarding. 1.9 basically told all those 1.8 masters that their experience was worthless . As a 1.8.9 ONLY Player, Hypixel is dying and most people similar to me are absorbed with MC Nostalgia type content. Mineplex is broken and has become a place for veterans to join and complain about how they can't even play a game because the queue is busted and they can't afford to keep the server maintaned properly. The Hive has also just shutdown and Cubecraft is 1.12.2+. So the game is basically just dead for me, in terms of multiplayer, either that or your only option is Hypixel or binge watching old DanTDM videos just so you can get like an archival feel of what it was like. I am not doing 1.9 PVP, that's just too slow, boring, too complicated, many questionable features and most 1.19 players aren't even concerned with PVP anyways, they're too busy playing on SMP Servers.
People that play 1.19 pvp are weird it’s way to complicated and if you are sped like me some people don’t give two fucks to switch Minecraft should be a simple dumb game that is fun like minemen and hyp but there are two many servers so it’s very hard to stay current and learn the new ones I think if 1.8 dies Minecraft is dead lol because there are people that hate 1.9 and what it did to mc but 1.9 don’t really care or truly dis like 1.8 so pvp is gonna die ig.
once u learn 1.9 it’s rly fun i think! tbh it’s not as sweaty as u think it’s more about playing smart i think minemen is more sweaty then say pvp legacy

Tbh 1.8 and bedrock pvp are just clicker games, 1.9+ on java makes it so you have to actually time your attacks and think about combat
