      Especially since both Falconer Predator and Hanzo were both outcasts of their respective societies. One a bad-blood who had dishonored it's tribe and now lives with the other outcasts, while the other served as a dishonorable vagabond for the criminal underworld. And in the end, they knew that death is better than dishonor.

A super strong 7 foot predator without cloaking, without the net gun, without the plasma shoulder cannon and other tech toys will still defeat any human fighting him with a sword. The sword should have snapped in two in that fight against the predator with the superior steel wrist blade. That was the only part of the movie I had a problem with.

    There is a book called "Predator: If It Bleeds" which is a collection of short stories based on the Predators through out history. One such story was center in Japan, about a Oni in the Aokigahara forest (The Suicide Forest, as it is known now). A beast that hunted Samurai. In the end it was bested by the man who would become the first Ninja, founding an order of warriors that emulate the Oni of Aokigahara, the Predator. Reading it brought this fight to mind.

    “Even if it seems certain that you will lose, retaliate. Neither wisdom nor technique has a place in this. A real man does not think of victory or defeat. He plunges recklessly towards an irrational death. By doing this, you will awaken from your dreams.”

    • @angry_zergling
      @angry_zergling 2 роки тому +8

      You will awaken from your dreams.
      Curious. I wonder what was meant by this. More and more I wonder if this life is a sort of challenge - it has no real permanent effect on anything directly. Like, say, a dream. We volunteer to place ourselves (or are placed against our will) here. Our memories of actual reality are temporarily suspended. And by doing this - we are forced to rely not on objective experience in reality (actual reality) but the truly subjective nature of the person we are - free of initial prejudice or misconception or knowledge - we come in clean, and what we believe and how we go out is totally up to us and based on how we interpret what we see and learn in this place.
      But...for what purpose might this 'dream' be? It surely must have some. Maybe, if we mess up - we do wrong, we die dishonorably, or we make mistakes showing we're not worthy...we start all over again. And we do it over, and over, and over, and OVER again until we get it right. But! Once we behave right, we will by necessity die honorably...and then we're freed. We wake up. We've proved ourselves rational and righteous and right - we've proved ourselves worthly of objective existence over a prison in a purely individual illusion.
      I'm quite certain that wasn't what was intended by the quote above - that surely wasn't what he meant. I'm not the smartest of people and the meaning just evades me. But I still cling to a little wonder - what if my interpretation was correct, and what if the person quoted knew something I didn't? I've found lots and lots and lots of 'things' suggesting that this life is not reality but only a temporary projection of our immortal consciousness into a time-limited scenario where we're left to do what we will in the hopes that our virgin minds will discover what is 'right' by ourselves and have the courage to act according to that up until the very end.
      All religion basically boils down to that concept...Well, all religions containing an afterlife. A being that defines or otherwise understands what is good or what is not strips all knowledge from you (or gives you no knowledge to begin with), thrusts you down here, and the rest of eternity depends on your ability to judge for yourself what is right within the limited time you have here - and if you judge correctly, you win. Wrongly? Lose. Or, maybe you hit the reset button. Either way - to progress, you need to act according to a set of principles defined outside of your reality and you need to decipher little clues placed inside your fake reality to determine what the universal good truly is.
      Dunno - the concept just seems awfully universal and transcends both theological and even theories more concretely based off of empirical observations of reality and what may be possible and other 'secular' philosophy, and the above quote got me thinking about it again.
      So, still I wonder: For us, awakening from a dream means to transition from a meaningless personal illusion created by our own minds into actual shared reality. So, by plunging recklessly towards certain death, with full knowledge that you will die, but while also knowing you're dying for the right thing...we'll awaken. What are we to awaken to?

    I like this scene. Like a scene from Japanese cinema, just the whole thing is almost silent, save for the clashing of weapons and the screaming. Open field with tall grass, two warriors viewed from a far shot, only become a close up when they fight again. It gives the scene moments to breathe, the fight to feel more suspenseful. Then in those final moments, you just see raw emotion, before Hanzo falls and leaves the scene on them being dead. Louis Ozama really sold the performance. Facial expression was everything here and he did wonders.

Like in this scene with Hanzo or the african guy at the camp. Another example is in the original film where they first spotted him. It seems that the predators every once in a while come across a warrior who has a very good battle sense and intuition in order to detect them despite predators being invisible.

He deactivated his cloaking, waited for Hanzo to strike first, and he even gives a nod to encourage Hanzo to attack again. He isn’t toying with him, he’s challenging him. One on one. A rare example of a sequel upstaging the original. Billy just got killed off screen, whereas this guy, who hardly says a word throughout the movie, had a sweet combat scene and a good death.

    I love how they made Hanzo's move set realistic. Not some flashy bullshit combos that strikes 7-10 hits per attack. Just one at a time with precision and intent to end his opponent. The real way of the samurai.

    If their strength was equal, no way the predator could have hunted him. Noble savage.

    Didnt realize until i went and watched the original again but they used the same music here as they did when Billy made his final stand. Nice touch 👌

    The only difference with Billy from the first Predator movie is Hanzo manage to kill the predator.
