Never go into the backcountry without it ..... the bug shelter or as we like to call it "The Oasis". Not only will it protect you from bugs like mosquitos, black flies, no-seeums, deer flies and horseflies, but provides the best rain and wind shelter. We were surprised this year to see how the fine mesh also acted like a partial windbreak. A real "Oasis" at the end of the day. Keep your great videos coming .... great for our future trip planning.
+Tina Deutsch Yeah it’ll be coming on every trip from now on. I’ll have to try it as a wind break. But if there’s wind there probably aren’t much bugs so I’m not sure I’d set it up
Ian Young You will be surprised at how much the fine mesh reduces the wind when you are cooking inside. Also in driving rains, the tarp/screen combo reduced how much rain made its way under the tarp because the mesh blocks a large percentage of the driving rain. We created your bishop bag (with permanent ridge line) for the tarp that stays attached to screen. We leave fine rope (bunched and tied with covered hair bands) permanently attached to tarp. We added a permanent double twisted line with butterfly knots to the inside running along the ridge line (door to door) to dry clothes, hang stuff. It is so efficient and quick to put up and take down no matter what the conditions. Literally, an "Oasis".
The moose sighting was awesome, such a big healthy moose - you guys were lucky. Alex (my boyfriend) and I were DYING laughing watching you do that awful 400m overgrown portage, as we were watching Alex started saying how much he hated that portage and saying if he filmed himself on that one all you would hear is him cursing. Sure enough you were cursing and we couldn't help but die in laughter, it was all too familiar! One wrong step on that one and down the cliff you go... plus all that overgrown crap was a pain. As always looking forward to the next part of the series!
+Brooke Martin Hahah! That’s good to hear because I hated it too. It was a really rough go portage. I felt I needed to include the swearing to show the real experience.
Lmao very true! We were glad to see we weren't the only ones who felt that way with this portage. It was funny to see/hear you swearing since I don't think I've seen that in any of your previous vids haha.
I agree with Larry incredible sighting,
Yeah this was really amazing. Easily the best wildlife encounter I've ever had anywhere

Wow. I've seen plenty of cows going through the park but I've never seen a bull. So lucky!
+Candice Nicole Thanks! We were really lucky

Beauty...always seemed to me that as wonderful as the north woods are...the bugs ruin it every time. Great trip IanYo so far.
+Patrick Caple Thanks! It’s usually worth putting up with them, but they were bad on the river
