Fall Canoe Camping in the Rain, Algonquin Park

- Опубліковано 6 жов 2022
- We spend 3 days in Algonquin Park Canoe camping in the fall Oct 2-5 2021.
Beautiful fall colours, lots of rain and cold wet weather. Steak dinner cooked on the fire, under a tarp, backcountry mulled wine around the fire, and camp pizzas. A perfect 3 day wilderness escape with Emma our Golden Retriever.
Featured in this video is Jens first canoe flip and portage! Stay until the end to watch the embarrassing first attempt! We deal with a leak in one of our air mattresses and have a look at Jamies new air mattress. We stop along a portage to enjoy a beautiful waterfall.
that was epic, thank you for taking us along and a huge thank you for not playing youtube music.
Thanks so much, appreciate the positive feedback. Really love sharing the trips and hearing back that they have been enjoyed ♥️
How colorful the forest is, it is beautiful, the water looks calm Beautiful landscape, good trips and videos 🙋👍😀
I appreciate your style of video, no extraneous music, just the camping. Subscribed.
I have to add, that the Crocs are a nice touch....
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoy 😊
Your dog looks absolutely stoic looking out at the lake...such beautiful colors...thankyou
Thank you so much for the lovely comment 💛🥰🤗
This was great! Thank you for taking us along! Emma cracks me up!!!
Right?! She's too much.. earns her keep for sure 😂 Glad you enjoyed the video!
Beautiful Canada 🇨🇦
Awesome trip! So great to see y’all embracing the weather you get. Those beaver dams were epic!
Anytime outdoors is a good time! Unless it’s dangerous weather, we love it. Love an epic beaver dam too. Thanks for watching!
Thank you two for sharing. Nice and peaceful.
Thanks Steve, appreciate the comment :)
Thanks so much for caring for our parks. Garbage brings bears and sadly they die when that happens. Really appreciate you educating folks about respecting nature! Enjoy your autumn.
Thanks Jean, we care deeply about keeping things as natural as possible and following Leave No Trace principals. We are only visiting and should not feel entitled. Appreciate your comment ♥️
I just found this video, and what a treat it is!; it brings back memories of trips I started taking some 50 years ago in the same area. Algonquin Park is truly a spiritual place. You have a real talent for capturing the beauty of backcountry canoeing and camping and the joy that all 3 of you take in your surroundings and adventures. Kudos to you.
You also give camping advice in a very natural way which is unusual, but very much appreciated - thanks! It's also nice to see how equipment has evolved over the years.....
My only regret is that my backcountry canoeing days are behind me, although my wife and I still go car camping in the summer and fall.
Thanks for watching and commenting Alex, we love hearing feedback and we love knowing our video helped brighten your day a tiny bit by brining some backcountry into your living room.
Car camping is lovely and has its own merits. It may be different, but getting outside is what’s important and anyway you can do that is special ♥️ thanks again for the kind words
That was a great trip. Your puppy is soooo well trained. Thx for sharing! Watching from Ontario Canada 🎉
Thanks Sean! She is very good.. most of the time 😉♥️
Thanks for watching!
Stumbled across your channel tonight.
Enjoying the vids . Beautiful scenery to .
That camp site is great …
Thanks John! Glad that you’re enjoying the trips 😀
Love it. Rain on the water is one of my fav's.
Same. Love the rain. On a tarp, on water, on leaves. All over. All round, peaceful and grounding. 😌♥️
Beautiful dog !😍
She’s a golden haired angel
Your dog stole the show with his cuteness.
She’s a cutie. Thanks for watching
I just love watching your dog Emma she a beautiful dog.
Thank you Diane! She’s a sweetheart
23 minutes in and I just had to stop and say 5-star campsite and A+ effort.
Ah, thanks Pete! Can’t take credit for the beauty site, but the effort - I’ll accept the grade given 😀 thanks for watching and stopping to comment. Always a pleasure reading nice notes!
Golly, that is an impressive collection of extremely high-end and brand new gear.
Buy once, cry once 🤞
That was just the perfekt trip and video. Thanks a lot.Beautiful landscabes and Lakes, all in autumn colours.Wonderful !!!!! I keep an eye out for new videos from your Channel.Have a great Weekend.😀😀😀
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Love to hear that you’ve enjoyed the video. More to come!
Amazing fall colors, it can tough to time it right to make it for near peak season. YT algorithm brought me here on this one, hope others are brought here as well, great content.
Thanks Mark! Yes, it’s always different with the timing, this year we got a good dose of colour. So glad that you found yourself here and enjoyed your visit! Hope to see you back for future trips 😉
Love your Canadian strokes. Simple as it was, reach out and soak in the nature is what we all need once in a while. Thank you for sharing ☺️
Thanks Joe!
I like how the dog is made to wait and do tricks before it's allowed to eat. Discipline! That's the thing!
Yes the tricks are not typically part of the routine.. but waiting is, sometimes only a third of a second.. but it builds character 😁♥️
Yet another great adventure with you all!!!
Thanks Jim! Appreciate it! 😄
stuck at home due to wildfires so watching this is the next best thing
Hopefully we get some rain in the near future!! 🤞🌧️🌧️🌧️
thunder storm in Montreal right now so I hope camping in store very soon.
Fun trip! Thanks for bringing us along!
Thanks for watching!
This was such an enjoyable video to watch. KEEP MAKING MORE!
Thank you so much! 🥰 more coming!!
Great video! I watch it a couple times a month when I need to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life! Two questions for you, if you don’t mind.
What dates was this trip? I live in Oklahoma and I’m planning a fall trip and want to go peek foliage as you two did.
What entry and route was this? After having seen the camping spot so many times in your video, I want to experience it for myself.
My wife and I are heading to BWCA next month, can’t wait for the peaceful nothing all around. Thank you for all the hard work you put into your videos to share for us. Greatly appreciated. Safe travels and happy adventures friends!
The entire place looks like a slice of heaven! Well made video. I agree with another commenter, thank you for sparing us the cheesy, royalty free music. Everyone wants to be some kind of wilderness Spielberg these days. Lol. You 3 are very very blessed. I hope y’all know what you have with each other. Keep doing what ur doing and I foresee happiness for years to come. Thanks again for a super pleasant video.
Heavenly for sure!
We keep it simple, and truthfully, I have no patience for sorting through tunes I don’t love haha. Emma really looks forward to having a little taste of what we’re eating when camping. It doesn’t always happen at home, but on a trip, were all exerting more calories :) thanks for watching and commenting Craig!
Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed watching every second 😊
Thanks Amy! So glad to hear ☺️
Thanks for sharing your videos .I keep an eye out for new videos from your Channel.Greetings from the Netherlands.
Thanks for watching!
Great stuff! Feels like the Fall. Love Algonquin that time of year.
Best time of year isn't it 😊
I love your videos so much me and my dog coco were watching you guys and Emma. Please continue to make more and more and more Algonquin Park Videos. You guys are awesome.
Thank you so much for the kind comment! ❤️ We enjoy sharing the experiences, as long as we're having fun, we’ll keep doing it!
Well that’s amazing I love your guys videos keep them up, hope Emma is doing good.
Beautiful…thx. for sharing.
Thank you for watching Liz!
Great adventure!
Thanks Mark!
Beautiful colours, beautiful adventure
Thank you Jim!
Love your show!!
Thanks so much! Appreciate you watching and leaving us a lovely comment. Makes our day 😊
Great looking trip, the colours were amazing.
Thank you Steve!
You guys know how to camp! Great vid
😄thank you 🙏
So good to see you guys again! I was missing little miss zoomie zoomie!!!😊 Well!! And the humans too i reckon!😊
Awe, hehe, we’ve got more to come for sure 😀! It’s been a struggle to get things edited this summer. come join us on Instagram if we aren’t friends yet! Can get a little dose of miss zoomie every now and again between videos 😜
Love Emma, my favourite breed 👌
Oh yeah great vids to 😁
Thanks Colin! Goldens have our heart ❤️
Despite the rain & clouds, looks like you three had a great time! Hint: dehydrated or freeze-dried citrus slices or segments can be yummy additions to drinks or a simple healthy snack on their own. Some folks eat them peel and all, or trim off the pith & peel before using / consuming. You can buy or easily make your own.
I love the rain and the clouds in most cases, as long as you have the right gear and are prepared.
Mulled wine would be awesome with dehydrated fruit! Someday when I have enough foresight I will try it 😂 thanks!
Your camping side was so beautiful ❤
A favorite of ours for sure!
Looks like you started in Cache Lake. Wonderful.
So beautiful there ☺️
Great video thankyou for sharing here from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️😎
Thanks Mike! So glad you enjoyed watching 😄
Y’all got it goin on!! Loved the video and we share a lot of the same camping gear! Hubba Hubba!
Great minds buy the same gear 👌😂 thanks for checking out the video Harold
Very lovely.👍
Thanks Carlton!
10/10 smile after seeing you guy's had a new video out. I just did a trip from that access point too, no time to edit but fun to see it again through your lens. Water was much higher on your trip and nice fall colours from camp.
Thanks Jay! We’re so glad we’ve finally been able to put out another video hehe. Excited to see yours when it’s out. We really struck gold with the timing of the colours for sure. Cheers to you and Scout & Happy Thanksgiving.
Fantastic when the family loves this!! Me my spouse and son have done trips together and mornings better!
It’s so nice to share the experience with family ♥️♥️
Thanks for sharing the raw experience..it's a beautiful place, adorable dog, planning to visit sometime soon.
Awesome, wishing you a lovely and safe trip when you can get out. If new to backcountry camping there are plenty of drive up camp sites and day hikes to get your feet wet! (Although I do hope they stay dry.. until you backcountry camp.. no avoiding it 😂)
your videos never disappoint.
Thanks Dave! Appreciate it :)
great video, thanks for sharing great adventure enjoy❤
Glad you enjoyed watching!
Emma is so cute
She sure is, but don’t tell her or we’re really going to have a diva on our hands.
Thank you for sharing your adventure! We really enjoyed your video. Cheers!
Thanks Dan! We love hearing that. Cheers have a great summer!
@@TwoPacksandaPup You're very welcome! You guys have a great Summer, too!
This was such a lovely video!! The colors are spectacular!! Thanks so much for sharing oh and that mulled wine will be really good when it gets colder for sure!
Thanks Kristin! We got out at a great time to capture the colours! So glad you enjoyed the trip
You two ate like kings and queens. look at the size of those steaks!!
Also I salute your attitude... so much rain and you seemed relentlessly cheerful.
I can’t say the rain brings us down. It’s so beautiful and peaceful in a different way. Being prepared is the key! We don’t go to enjoy good weather, we go to be in nature. Thanks for watching!
Great trip, thanks for leaving just enough hints so that I know where you went. Lol . Might try this trip this spring for our dog's (Yeti) first canoe trip.
Haha, nice! I'm sure Yeti will love it. Emmas first trip that actually worked out (went as planned) was just one lake in lol but she's a swimmer 😬
Great video.
The blow up sacks work exceptionally better if you blow over the top of the opening by the “Venturi “ effect, vs blowing directly down into.
Thanks for sharing your trip!
So that’s how to do it!! I just bought one of these few months back and I was doing what she did. Either way, it beats the old fashioned way until you pass out and tumble down a hill just trying to make ur bed. Lol. I will definitely try this next time. Comment wasn’t for me but thank you for the advice!
Awesome! Will try that next time, thank you. Honestly it’s already soooo much easier than my mattress haha, so if it gets better I’m happy 😃
Amazing camp
Thank you!
It was great to see your video post this morning. And it’s a nice long one.
It looked like a great trip. Miss Emma was up to her usual shenanigans I see lol
Fall is my favorite time of the year to go tripping. No bugs, no heat/humidity. Lots of natures beauty with the changing of the season. A whole lot less people!
I’d rather be a bit chilly than be sweating and covered in bug bites 🤪
I’m looking forward to your next video with great anticipation
100% Alan! We favour the fall and spring too! You can always layer, have a fire, do some jumping jacks etc.
Emma is always up to her usual shenanigans and we must be along for the ride 😂 more videos to come soon 👌 no time to edit in the summer hehe
Wow nice video and nice dog
She is a very nice dog ♥️ thank you for watching and very pleased that you enjoyed
3:05 no matter how dogs travel, they've always gotta stick their heads out the vehicle and sniff/investigate!
No matter how, no matter what 😂 adjust accordingly.
12:36 ohhhhhhhhh she got you there!!!!!! TAKE THAT
😂😂
Hey guys! Your videos are great! We watch them from Russia. Your nature is so beautiful and it is quite similar to our in Russia. We enjoy your campfires, sunsets, serene lakes and woods. And my kids also love your puppy Emma very much. She is a retriever by breed, am I right?
Ah thanks so much for the lovely comment :D Russia must be beautiful also! Emma is a Golden Retriever, yes. Very sweet dogs
Furry Locke Ness swimming around... lol
😂😂 new nick name found 👌
Gotta love those super steep portages, even with the rain it looked like a great trip! Thanks for sharing
Haha totally, as long there aren’t too many! Sometimes the rain is nice. Especially if you can stay dry. Was a great trip. Thanks for watching
Is that the Tim River way in? We’ve done that, long ago, was beautiful, not raining when we were there however. Looks good you guys, hope you’re having fun and keeping warm and dry this year!
Thanks so much! This wasn’t the Tim River way, but we’ve done that a few times, beautiful. Thanks for watching, and we hope you’re also having fun, keeping warm and dry!!! 🤗
@@TwoPacksandaPup thx, happy solstice to you are your puppy x0x
Happy New Year. Can I ask where you get those Egg Crystals? Enjoy your videos. Happy paddling in 2023+...(gotta love Emma)
Ovaeasy.com 😛 we order a bunch at once. Emma is the best, that’s why we endure her terrible jokes and disregard of personal space.
The dog keeps whining " like" Do we really have to do this ? Can't we just lay on the couch at home and watch Old yeller 😄
😂
We just spent 9 fantastic days in Algonquin ( Pog Lake) This was our first time at this park, we will be going back next year. Thanks for sharing your videos 🇨🇦❤
That sounds awesome Christine! Glad you enjoyed your visit. Thanks for watching
Really enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing. Curious why you have a bear bell on your bear hang? Thanks again for sharing this adventure.
Hey Cliff,
We started this early on to help us differentiate from general noises in the bush vs something trying to get at our food. We sometimes hang our food bag pretty far back in the woods and in the middle of the night if we hear noise, we want something to alert us if its our food bag that someone is trying to mess with so that we can go and defend it, or have peace of mind if its just something waking around. With a good tree hang it shouldn’t be a concern but we’ve been doing it for a long time and it gives us peace of mind.
I just came across your channel and I had to hit you with a sub! This is the same exact content I want to put out when my lab and I start our outdoor channel!
Thanks Dylan! So glad you enjoyed watching and subscribed 😄 labs are so sweet ♥️ enjoy
Emma is just too cute
She knows it too 😉 dangerous combo 😂
Which access point did you leave from and what lake did you stay on? I couldn't make out what the Portage signs said.
I love all your videos by the way! This is one of my favourite channels.
Thanks Andrea! So glad you enjoy the videos ♥️ we took a bit of a different approach with this one with less info on where we are. DM us on Instagram and we can let you know!
Nice country and video. You shouldn’t use your breath to inflate an air mattress. The moisture from your breath will freeze if it gets cold and make you extremely cold. Learned this the hard way! Cheers
Thanks David! It's not ideal, not great for the pad either, we've thought about a mini pump. We may add it to the kit soon 👌
Very nice video!! People leaving garbage in the fire pits suck. It’s almost a part of life now 😕
Ya, totally expected at this point. A lovely surprise when it’s not full of crap. People don’t understand that this trash can blow away and anything scented will attract animals. I’ll complain about it every time, even if one person watching changes their ways, I’ll be grateful.
First congrats to Jen on her first portage of a canoe. Its a miserable club that you have joined . Btw how much did the canoe weigh ? I don't do that flip technique . I pick up on end , flip that over and walk down to the yoke. Have to do it this way on solo trips as i have a backpack and chest pack on.
Steaks looked great . But i bet Emma would prefer t-bones so she could have an after dinner chew . Early spring and late fall make for some cold , wet days.
Haha, thank you Alex. I am honoured to be part of this miserable club and will do my best to earn my keep by improving my portage skills and slowly adding a pack (rather embarrassing first flip) maybe I will try your technique. The canoe is very light at 37 pounds, I believe I just made it look very awkward and heavy 😂 Perhaps we will also bring t-bones next time for Emma 👌
Love the cold, wet spring and fall. Gives a good reason for a fire and a sleeping bag.
@@TwoPacksandaPup Aside from the misery its an exclusive club and you're a welcome addition. I don't like that flip technique even with my 38 lb 15 fter .
You have to be a natural trout fisher if you like wet ,cold weather . Just a matter of finding a lake.
When I was canoeing with my parents in the early 60's there were no "Thunder Boxes".......does the Park? Service fly in and clean them out. There traffic thru lakes is much higher now than then.
Great trip! I was wondering how long your steaks were frozen?
We froze them the night before
Awesome video! What brand is that tarp? It looks like an awesome design.
It’s a Rab siltarp 2 we love it! Thanks for watching
Would love a video on your gear/clothes for this trip
Have been meaning to do a gear video for some kind. Spring and fall are the most difficult for gear/clothes and also the most important! If we can get some time together during the cool season ahead, we will make one!
@@TwoPacksandaPup that would be amazing! Just did four days in Algonquin and it was my first -1c night. I feel like I over packed. Also how you guys got that tarp set up so well, would love to see that process in action. Never had anyone to show me this, been figuring it out on the way from great folks like you guys!
Mulled wine and a fat cigar. Living large.
The only way to live. Grind all week, then 😌✨
You look like a Disney Princess, I’m a 78 yr old grandma 😁
Awe that’s too kind Sharilee, thanks for watching and enjoying the video 😀💛
No pack for Emma? Great video. 😊
She pulls her weight in different ways 😉 we’d rather she wear a life jacket and not swim with goods on board.. although it would be cute if she had her own pack.. we may have to the change the channel name to Three Packs and a Pup 😂😅♥️
I asked only because working dogs like to work and wondered whether she would ‘enjoy’ the trip more as a working partner? Just curious…….
Oh and I loved to see Pup get some of that steak!! Such a beautiful and well behaved, happy girl. She deserves some steak. To some people it’s a sin to give ur dog people food. Not here, our dogs are people.
Haha ya she loves to get some of what we eat. We are so lucky to have her, she is amazing in all ways. Thanks for checking the video out!
Great trip! Question... as dog owners, what do you do about your dog when she goes #2? Do you send her off into the bush? I've grown tired of well traveled back country canoe routes where people bring their dogs. The last time I was in Algonquin, someone left a huge pile of poop directly in the middle of the only tent set-up spot on the entire site. Have also many times stepped where I obviously shouldn't have 🤣! No judgment here, just an honest question. Happy paddling👍
Oh no.. not pleasant. We encounter poop in places it shouldn’t be a LOT.. although most of it is human. I believe we have a clip of me carrying dog poop in an upcoming video lol so stay tuned! Emma is regular luckily and typically goes morning and evening at camp, and is always within eye shot. We grab some bark or brush and carry it over to the privy. Sometimes she will go with James deep into the bush while collecting firewood. She never goes on trail.
Lake Opeongo, correct? I camped on the island at 1:39, it was amazing! Will go back again someday..
Ah good guess, but not Opeongo! Opeongo is a beauty though
What is the padding that you use on yoke? Does it work out for you? I hear that it is hard to get a really helpful one. They tend to move around too.
What is your tarp? What size? Would it be good enough in a rain that comes in sideways?
Thank you.
It’s an NRS yolk pad, James likes it.
Tarp is a Rab Siltarp 2
Will depend on how you set it up for sideways rain, but absolutely works for us.
@@TwoPacksandaPup Thank you. How did you manage to hang the middle of the tarp so high?
I must have missed a mention of what the route was. We’re heading out for 3 days in a few weeks and this looks like a great trip. Would you mind sharing? Thanks!
We made this one a bit of a game to figure out!
Nice camera work.
Thanks! 😭
This is a random question. What’s the brand of the yellow tarp you are using?
Rab SilTarp 2
Does Jamie have a method of storing cigars where they do not get too dry or moist in the backcountry?
Hey Pepe for a short trip, just a cigar tube to keep it from getting crushed. But for anything longer he uses a Boveda pack to regulate humidity.
emma good girl, lovely
Can you send a link for the waterproof packs you use? Thanks
www.mec.ca/en/product/5063-655/slogg-70l-dry-pack?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2OiCrsP_-gIVxzizAB3LwgPLEAQYASABEgLh2_D_BwE&colour=Zinnia
Sometimes the 70l is a TAD tight for longer trips or colder trips for Me. 115l is another option.
Wow! $140 bucks is reasonable for that big pack. Thanks
How old is your pup!! I have 5 yr. old Choc Lab that goes camping with me.
Nice! I bet they love it ♥️ Emma is 5 in December.
Hello, I am a student of the Department of Architecture from Taiwan. I am now working on a ROOTS clothing store design. I want to know if I can use some clips in the video to make my Roots clothing store introduction video? (Only about 20 seconds,Scenery part only) Thank you 🙏
Nice trip but I bet next time you'll wear some boots.
Haha, we really don’t like to wear boots.
We find that they always manage to get wet. Pulling over a beaver damn or slipping on a rock you always end up more than ankle deep.. when they are wet they are heavy and extremely difficult to dry out. We wear water shoes that are designed to drain water, with wool socks. Wool retains its insulting value even when wet. Then at camp we change into dry wool socks. We find it works for us. But we want to try waterproof socks next year!
Welcome back! My wife and I were wondering where you three were. Nice to be wanted eh? We also love that site but haven't been that way in a couple of years. Exploring new areas of the park. Also my wife used that same portage for her very first canoe carry portage. Next you'll have to stern paddle. Nothing wrong with a nice easy trip now and then. Take care! Chris
Oh cool, what a great first portage! And an amazing site. Love a good simple trip sometimes.
We will 100% have to switch spots in the canoe, poor Emma will be thrown off 😂 we will capture the action.
We’re happy to be back! It’s hard to juggle the tripping and the editing in the summer months, but we’ve got a few more trips to edit from this season 😄
Thanks for watching Chris!

@26:03 as you're pointing camera between you two behind abouts 25 yards between those two dark trees I zoomed in and noticed Bigfoot squatting down looking at you two, Did you hear any noises at night or his footsteps?
🫣 we did!! Omg, I had a look 👀 😳😱
