Great video. Very informative. Just about to go through this process as I'm buying a second Switch for my wife and this makes it much clearer than the various text based guides I've read. In today's day and age though this is a clunky, albeit do-able, method for sharing a game library within the same family PROVIDED a) you want to play different games at the same time and b) that the secondary device has internet access (might not be guaranteed when travelling). Obviously with physical game discs there's no such restriction. While in some ways I can understand Nintendo using this as an anti-piracy measure but they way they have implemented it makes it look more like a blatant cash-grab. For a family friendly device it falls at the first hurdle really. Time Nintendo came into the 21st century.

Yes! It’s ridiculous and a huge money grab. With the Ps I can easily have one main console and the kids can still play on other PS so we can all game together. The switch is behind on the times. I’m not buying multiple of the same game just so we can play together on separate switches.

@@hobbyless4089 yes it is an on the go system regardless of model but the switch lite provides a more convenient portable experience. The Switch with all its features never gets used on the go. This feature was created mostly for a situation like that or with families that have multiple switches
I think u can play muti-players game with your friend using the same copy. Because I have been doing it for over a year now only one player has to use another UserID to login the game, and the other player HAS to use the account that purchased the game and have internet connection

You got me rethinking my plan now. I'm planning to buy a Switch in May and the digital version of its games. But you've got a point. The games should be able to share to a friend without logging out of one console and logging into that same account from another console.

@@purplesongs5521 you should be able to just give someone else the game itself without losing connection to your own entire game system. Btw, they had no choice but to let us share games. That's a challenge that all video game companies have to deal with when trying to move us from hardware to software technology. As in no one system should be the only one that gamer can play the game they own on. That's because if the system stops working or is stolen, the game would be lost too. Gamers would never buy digital because of the security risk.

it is possible for both players to use the same copy and online play at the same time, my fd and I have been doing it for over a year now. only u have to use the account and connect to the internet. the other player has to use another game profile/account to enable this feature
My primary purpose is to have Mario Kart running on 2 different TVs, using 2 different switches but running off a single license from the E-Shop. I followed the instructions and was able to launch the same mario kart game on both machines at the same time. However, I can't play online or in LAN mode against each other with 2 players each occupying their own switch. Instead, I can just launch individual single player games or have dual players, but occupying split screen on a single Switch unit. How do I have each player get access to their own screen, without the split screen, but competing with each other in the same race?
So this is crazy to me. I recently had nintendo plus expansion and I was able to be online playing games while my boyfriend sat right next to me playing the same games offline on my account. Now it just dawned on me mid writing this that maybe the expansion pack the yearly one let's you have it on multiple consoles at a time? Because I'm almost positive that he was able to access all my nintendo features while offline. He was able to play the old emulators for n64 and snes I also haven't watched the entire video yet...so pardon if it's mentioned

You can re download the game from any switch as long as you select the user that initially bought the game just to download it. Then you can use any user to actually play the game

This is not really a solution to the problem. I ran into this scenario trying to share downloaded games with my son. You know what’s much easier …. But physical games and pass them back and forth. Otherwise you get shut out of games when you have no internet connection and playing around with primary accounts like this. They should make it that everyone in a family plan can share the games regardless of which account purchased the digital game. And no mention that Pokémon and animal crossing will not work with this method either.
I mentioned this a long time ago, and a certain commenter said that i just wanted free games. I don't know how they can defend that. How can anyone be against being able to share your whole library with your family? I grew up playing multiplayer games on a single screen (goldeneye, Mario kart, etc), so there was no need to buy several copies of the same game. Nowadays, we have bigger TVs and more powerful hardware to run the games on, yet they want us to buy a separate TV and/or game console plus the game just to play local multiplayer. To play splatoon with four family members, I'd have to buy 4 switches and 4 copies of the games. That's ridiculous. I should be able to play with four players on a single TV. One switch and one game.

And having two Switches with both accounts does work…… mostly ….. until you try to do that with games like Pokémon or animal crossing or splatoon. I do have a family plan and do as you say but still it’s not as easy as it should be. If you have a family account it should be no problem to share games since you are sharing a subscription

yes the original Owner of the Account is no longer primary on ur console, so the one who is sharing his games will need internet if he wants to access his own digital bought games
We need the ability to register something like 4 primary consoles with the family plan and allow the same digital games to be played on those four without being online. I won't be buying digital until this happens. My kids can't play mario kart together unless on the switch lite unless I buy multiple digital versions. So stupid. I'll just stick to physical so they can at least swap them around and I can recoup my costs down the road selling used.

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL GOOD THINGS- how do I stop “suspend play” every time I play when my son is playing ANY game?? His is primary (my old switch) and I got a switch lite. When I play slay the spire and he plays Zelda. As soon as he logs in it suspenses my play even though it’s a different game?? We share my primary account. What do I do???
Does this work if the profile on the second switch doesn’t have an NSO account. I put my profile on my daughters switch to give her games but she can only play on my profile if my switch is the primary. Her profile is not linked to a Nintendo account and brings up an error code when trying to load games.

Deleting a user on one console does not delete it from the other, the only way to revoke access to your account would be to sign out of your Nintendo account remotely which you can do here: accounts.nintendo.com/login_history This will remove the user from the other Switch and turn off console sharing

I literally play off 1 account sharing games with my wife everyday on animal crossing... none of us get kicked off.. you just gotta have ur primary and secondary console setup in a particular way.. you should do your research before you tell folks online that something is impossible when its actually not.
@@Jnxd184 having the account that owns the game you originally bought your games digitally on as the secondary console & the new switch at primary… so for example I bought a reg switch a year ago.. and a oled recently… I set my regular switch that was primary to seconary & added my new oled as primary with the added account from my reg switch with a new account of course, I play animal crossing with my wife at the same time & even Splatoon - different users but same game from the one account.. I promise you this guys wrong

What I understand is that you get kicked out when you try to play online games at the same time. Idk why he used Fortnite as example since who tf would go through this process for a free game right? but that’s not the point. What about the offline topic he mentioned? @joku2913 yes I do! I put my account on my friend's Switch and he was able to download and play my games, but **only with my account**. Therefore, all the progress he can make in the game will be saved only for my account.

Yeah it's a con. I thought it would be a good idea to buy my two Little boys one each and share the online games But......discovered you can link up to 8 consoles...but only one can play an online download at any one time It's ridiculous what's the point

It sucks but your loss. This was a feature created to allow you to have a household switch and an on the go switch like the Lite.

If your friends account has progress, would that progress be on there when you played? Would it delete the progress?

Yes, you have to verify through internet connection with wifi or hotspot before you can play your games. Then you can turn it off

@@Jnxd184 having the account that owns the game you originally bought your games digitally on as the secondary console & the new switch at primary… so for example I bought a reg switch a year ago.. and a oled recently… I set my regular switch that was primary to seconary & added my new oled as primary with the added account from my reg switch with a new account of course, I play animal crossing with my wife at the same time & even Splatoon - different users but same game from the one account.. I promise you this guys wrong

What I understand is that you get kicked out when you try to play online games at the same time. Idk why he used Fortnite as example since who tf would go through this process for a free game right? but that’s not the point. What about the offline topic he mentioned? Can you both play the same game even if the secondary is not connected to the wifi?

@joku2913 yes I do! I put my account on my friend's Switch and he was able to download and play my games, but **only with my account**. Therefore, all the progress he can make in the game will be saved only for my account.
