I would make the lite my primary, so that I can play it outside without needing Internet. The main switch I would leave at home, where it always has internet, so it would be my secondary then, although it is my main device.
Wulff Den made a video on this I think, it is basically how you say. Although I still don't know why you would have a lite if the regular one is already portable.

@@GoldenLeafsMovies The lite is much more durable than the OG, as the joycons are fixed and won't be banged up when things start to get crazy in the bag. That's mainly why I'm getting a lite. Besides, if you're in a vehicle, it is highly unlikely that you will need to Dock.

Yet Playstation and Xbox have had auto uploading/downloading cloud saves for forever. Nintendo really needs to step up their online capabilities because it can be infuriating.

You're better off setting the Switch that you take out and about as your Primary system, so you can still play your games if you are somewhere without an internet connection. If you have a standard Switch for playing at home on the TV, you'll almost certainly have an internet connection to check if you can play your games, but if you have a Lite to play on the bus or train, you may not be able to get online to verify that you can play your games. It's what I do myself, for that very reason.

Thats pretty smart but only the main profile could play all the games on the home switch then right? I normally use my phones hotspot to play in hotels or watever lol

Personally, the only games I play on a profile other than the one they were bought on are US or Japan eShop downloads, which I play on my main account, so the ones purchased on my main account are usually played on that one anyway. I much prefer to have the safety of definitely being able to play on my Lite. which I would regularly do whilst commuting to uni (before the pandemic), due to mobile signals being terrible in most of the route I have to take (meaning a mobile hotspot wouldn't be possible), than having to worry about other profiles on my main Switch needing to play games (plus I play my Lite a lot more at home, with my main Switch being just for docked games (apart from the past 3 weeks until yesterday, when my Lite was away for repair)).

@@certifiedbruhmoment85 well there's so many discord servers and twitch bots like OaksLab with sysbots genning hacked Pokémon anyway. Suprise trades are full of shiny mons that are hacked in as well. I would understand not having save backups if hacking wasn't so common but honestly it's more of an inconvenience at this point than a measure to keep the game fair...

I bought a Switch Lite back in January of this year, and my job requires me to do constant travel and I had imagined carrying the base switch would’ve been a massive pain for me. I quite enjoy using the Lite because my main games are Animal Crossing, BOTW, and many visual novels.
Now that I do not need to travel anymore and get to stay home, I now desire to own the base switch. I would love to play on the TV. To know I could easily switch between both systems is a relief!

Exactly! I love nintendo and my pfp is proof of that, but with anything online it sucks... Online, NSO, Retro Gaming even, and of course Saves. And the worst offender, friends codes, and lack of achievements..
In my country, nintendo not selling officially here, so we get a switch 2x price from reseller. So have 1 is okay for me.

Yup. Once I got my Switch Lite, I made it my primary console and made my original Switch console as a secondary console. Though, I use both my Switches at home now due to COVID and all, I've been playing Switch Lite than my original Switch due to ACNH.

Edward M I wouldn’t be surprised if they do, but also if they don’t tbh. If it could handle 4K, and was much much more powerful sure, but there are also been rumors for Mini LED screens. The only issue I see with that is where they aren’t as widely adopted, they would be much more expensive currently. But we’ll see.
Gaming is for the social elite. If you can't pay then don't play!
PSA, games that do NOT support Cloud Saves.
Animal Crossing, has its own unique backup system.
Pokemon games, you can still move them manually.
Splatoon, same as Pokemon.

They do it so you can't duplicate all your Pokemon. Trade your Zacian, download your cloud save, then trade your Zacian again, and repeat.
I have been playing the hell out of the lite. I thought I'd jump to the regular switch because of the bigger screen and it's like lifting the moon now to game on the OG regular switch. Am in love with the switch lite. Good thing I'm divorced now, she'd divorce me again I'm so addicted to it.
Finaly getting one after wanting one since it was announced, let’s hope that it comes intact and I get a pro controller

Im so happy this happened now whenever the new switch comes out I can buy it and not worry about save data. All I have at the moment is a lite and I’ve been wanting a real switch for a while
I’m still baffled that people own two switches for the sole purpose of playing one at home with the dock and having a “portable” in the form of the Switch lite... when the switch itself is already portable.
But such is life I guess. I actually considered the Switch lite just because it has an actual D-pad as well as better battery, but then I upgraded to the new Switch with the better battery life and discovered that hour makes joy cons with D-pass.
Sure, the Switch life is smaller but it was never about the size for me.
i got the Lite because its $100 Cheaper & i don't want to play it on a tv, but now i need the original just to stream playing games on a capture card
You could make the lite the primary, with it being portable if its the primary it doesn't check the internet. Then the OG switch is at home thus connected to wifi 99% of the time.
This would eliminate the need to hotspot the light (overall not a big issue but 🤷♂️)
But…the switch IS portable. That’s the entire reason it’s called the switch..
@@Ambereigh of course it is but he obviously purchased a lite version which is more portable than the regular Switch and doesn't have the ability to connect to hdmi. In this case, it make sense to keep the regular switch at home and plugged in to the TV while the lite can be used anywhere, and making it the primary makes sense to remove the necessity of internet connection being present.
Remember, 2 weekends out partying and drinking or eating out CAN equate to a switch lite, except the switch lite sticks around when you wake up. Keep that in mind if you think it's a waste of money👌
Yeah I have 2 consoles too, the og from 2017 for the big games like BOTW, YS etc and the lite for the everyday gaming like animal crossing, some indies, diablo and SOS... I'm really happy about all this optimization about the cloud, if only they could do this swiftly for ACNH and Pokémon 💀💀

I just bought myself a lite for a second AC island, I am happy this is now a thing so I can play my other games on it. PS I love that you have a black cat; black cats deserve all the love.
I honestly wish Nintendo would give us a service where you can share your game library with friends similar to the steam family share. I find it sad that you have to play on the same account but different consoles and at different times too because God forbid having the same account on two consoles at the same time 💀
I set my gf's switch as my primary, and my personal switch just has my account signed into it. We play the same games at the same time this way as long as I have an internet connection.

Switch lite easily fits in the back pocket even with many ergonomic cases. It's much more portable than even the regular switch. It is substantially lighter especially if you don't play in dock mode much. $100 cheaper and you don't have to worry about joycon controller charging. I love my lite and barely touch the regular switch. It's become a TV console. Buy one of those $30 battery cases and the thing is a beastly gaming machine. It's the dream of smartphone gaming except with top tier games and less freemium games.
I want to but another Switch but I'm gonna wait for the pro version.

I sometimes wish I can use the Lite instead of the normal switch, I like the bold colors and the form factor looks fine but that tv usage is so great for certain games. But I feel like it’s a waste to have both tho 😅. Maybe one day if I have the spare change and they make a really cool color besides the pink or teal one then maybe
Further self justification ammo for my lite purchase (I have a launch grey and a Pokémon lite) along with my two ACNH islands and the ergonomics, weight, aesthetics (the Pokémon colours are very nice) and d-pad. Anything that tidies this save process up is a good thing though I still think it’s a shame you can’t jump online with both switches on say splatoon 2, mario kart or smash bros even as a “demo version” as toad/default splatboy or something.
I may pre order that pokemon edition switch lite. The fact it’s black, even if it’s metallic black, is what makes me want one now
I live in Wales now but I left my switch with my brother in England. Due to lock down, I couldn't get it back so I brought a switch lite for myself. When I found this feature, I was sooo happy😁😁
I'm so thankful this is a thing because my primary Switch died suddenly with my all Animal Crossing progress and the relief of knowing I can transfer all my cloud save data onto a new Switch is a lifesaver

@@saucybaka4439 To be fair I foolishly used a third party usb cord to upload screenshots from my Switch onto my PC and the only conclusion I can come to is it was my own incompetence that killed my system. Pretty expensive lesson to learn but taking responsibility for my own mistake is the only thing I can do haha.

I got my yellow switch lite last May and I’ve been thinking of getting the ACNH Switch as a second one lol.. thought I was crazy for wanting a second one but I wanted this version originally but couldn’t find one for months so I settled for the lite. Honestly I LOVE the lite and I’ve been playing the heck out of it. I think it’s a great size for me and it’s pretty comfortable to play. I feel like the original switch might not feel as comfortable holding it for long periods but that’s fine as I’ll probably just keep it at home on its dock.
My question is though: let’s say I buy the physical version of the Bioshock Collection.. will I be able to play it on both switches? Not at the same time but will it delete my progress if I play on the big switch and then switch (lol) to the lite? I only have 1 Nintendo account btw..

I thought this was already in? I've never had to manually download/upload saves aside from the occasional error. Most of the time, they're all backed up?
Isn't it more logical to have the lite as primary? On the primary you can play downloaded games without constantly having it check online to see if you're double dipping; so good when you don't have internet. The big switch is at home, where there's always wifi. Right?

What's the point of using the Switch Lite as a secondary console to use on the go if you need an internet connection to play all the (downloaded) games on it?

I wish the Switch Lite had the Switch Online system where you can use your Switch games wherever you go, but it only checks if you own it after a week of being disconnected from the internet.
Just make the lite the primary unit, the larger one will usually be in the dock connected to the internet.

This is actually great because my original switch (which is sorta broken and doesn't play well in handheld) stays in my dock (no problems docked), and my switch lite (which I actually like more than the original) goes with me everywhere. I could get my switch fixed professionally, but I decided on a switch lite instead because I prefer the more portable form factor compared to the clunky og switch. Plus, I got a free game bundled with it because black friday.

thanks for the video Alex i didn't know about this feature and i found some scary things on it, my Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury save wasn't backed up i have over 35 hours saved, thank you again and i also backed up some other games that wasn't backed up. PS Dear Nintendo Please enable Animal Crossing cloud save its scary to think of all the hours saved on the console not being safe from glitching out and deleting or worse... thanks again Alex.

For me to! Got 2 switches, and 3 times the 2ds xl because they were were no longer beeing made. So i had to get the mario kart and pokeball version. I bet they are gonna drop the new Switch this year... so there is that also.. me and my husband also play gta on the playstation so we are in the hunt for 2 ps5 consoles.... gotta love gaming. *cries in corner*

I just connected my switch to my phone’s hotspot on a road trip. It worked totally fine.
Makes sense if there’s a switch revision coming soon. I can buy the newest one for me and give my kids the old one with all saves from Mario Kart 8
but can you still play games on the go without connection, though... you can't have two main accounts as far as i know and only the main one can play games offline
You make the switch that’s docked you’re secondary account so it needs internet which you’ll have at home , that way you can use the switch lite as your main and play games on the go with no internet
okay, weird family question here. is it possible to have 3 switches (one for the living room, one for each child). have one adult users (where all the games are purchased) and separate users for the children. With family online subscription would it be possible for the children to play games purchased by the adult user and would the children be able to use cloud save to be able to play on their Switch Lite's and then continue on the "living room Switch"? I spontaneously feel like Nintendo would pull the plug on such a setup, but in our case Nintendo will loose the sale of two switch lite consoles if it isn't possible.
You are right saying lose potential sales here. At this moment, digital games can be played on the console you bought it and on the account that bought it elsewhere. That means if you have 3 switchs, only two of them can be used at any given time if you want to use the account the buy digital games. Its important to note that this issue is industry standard and that no company allow account sharing for digital games.
what about the play time HOUR LOG, does that get carried over to each console? or no?
So this is good only if you are at home playing with two different switches, for whatever reason?
If I'm on the go with the lite (as I think most people were and will be) I have to boot it up, connect it to the hotspot via my phone, download the data and then start playing?

It was worth it when Smash Ultimate came out I needed the exclusive Smash dock, Collectors edition, and Standard edition
Late comment: if you have the Primary offline, can you simply keep it offline and save data to a microSD?
This way your 2nd Switch (online) can utilize all the cloud save features?

Make your second switch the primary switch, and then you don't have to connect
I used to not care for the switch at all when it first came out cuz I thought it was just another overpriced console (and my family just doesn’t make a lot of money in general) but this year I looked further into it and I now want one so badly, the last console I got was the Wii-U when it first came out so it’s been 7 years since I’ve had a a new console (and I’m getting a switch lite for Christmas this year WOP WOP!) I really can’t wait to start recollecting games again.
I sold my switch lite a while ago, and I'm only using one of my switches, so this isn't very useful for me, but I'm happy for those who will use this :)

So this helps me out a hack of a lot... because I have 3 switches.. a lite, and 2 normal switches, 1 red and blue neon, and the other is the animal crossing edition. Mainly docked is how I play, bit, because my dumb ass didn’t know this was a thing, it was always a haste switching back and forth between all my switches. Thank you ☺️
