- Matt brings his freshly painted BorgWarner EFR 6258 powered Nardo Grey MX-5 Miata to the shop for a build breakdown. His car features a full BOFI Racing turbo setup including the low mount manifold, downpipe and prototype 3-inch exhaust. An M-Factory 3.3 final drive gives a top speed of over 175 MPH, making it a threat to almost anything on the road.

I think my MX-5 could probably top 175 but I'd be worried about it trying to turn into an aeroplane.
If its an NA with stock gearing you run out of geaar at around 130-140
The box is a T56 so 6th is intergalaticly long, true top speed would probably be had in 5th.

Beautiful. I love the somewhat subtle look on the outside and all the real beauty in the performance. I’ve left my ND exterior with a stock look aside from the rims and lower stance due to cool overs. Can’t wait to get my car back an post a full review of my 300whp ND!
It’s great to see more and more 5’s getting built to their 350+ potential! I think it’s companies like BOFI that can make this achievable on a more reasonable budget than ever before. When we forged our 5 nearly 15 years ago now, if BOFI was around it would of saved a hell of lot of hassle and import tax! And although our mx is not quite the 5 it was, it was still good enough to make 365bhp on the last dyno run we did. Keep building these beasts everyone! 👍
I’m not impressed by the 175 mph, but a miata being able to make a stop in one piece after reaching that speed.

Rocky Imbeault the fastest I’ve gone in my boosted Miata is 90 and I don’t plan on doing it again until my shits more study, it felt like the thing was about to fall apart.
I have a pretty much stock nb1 and ive hit just over 100 and it felt stable although i did 120 in a chevy aveo once so anything else feels more stable

How much boost are you running?
300zxdriver Full boost on 13.5psi. Going above that number can be risky imo

Skuzzle has just announced he is shutting up shop, which is a crying shame, i am mates with him and carl at cbs autos in nelson is a very good mate, carls track attack mx5 is a beast, we raced ( i have a 996 911) and we got to 155 lol .he has very solid wings on his, was rock solid.

I have watched a little bit of your video and i can say for myself, that your selfie kind of perspective is annoying. My advice: Do not film yourself, film the owner and the car. Make more close ups on the enginebay and stuff like that.
Also maybe incorporate a go pro head mount to give the viewers a feel for the drivers seat

Question, either i missed it or it was not mentioned in the video. Since this is stupid fast what suspension & brake mods have been done? I think i saw coilovers during the engine bay shot but not 100% sure. Amazing build definetly gave me some ideas for my NA.

About 3-4 weeks, we've used V Band systems before and they're actually a pain to work on and they sit lower than they need to (VBand lip +Clamp) so this system is slipfit with clamps that keeps it as high as possible, easier to use too.
@@BOFIRacingTV ok well I have your low mount system and as you know downpipe is V-band. So will it fit ok with your manifold, downpipe setup?

We'll do a full video on them, they're absolutely fantastic retrofit digidashes that fit in the oil pressure gauge hole in the cluster

It looks like a good setup, but there's just one thing about this build that puzzles me: If new rods have been fitted, why not fit forged pistons too? Looking on BOFI's website, they don't look prohibitively expensive, compared to the cost the other parts fitted to the car.
The weak point for the Miata has always been the rods they don’t like to see more then a few psi but stock pistons have been known to hold up to 30 psi before they see detonation. If your boosting on a budget it’s common to just upgrade rods and save the extra cash for a better quality turbo kit. Upgrading the pistons is for someone looking to have that extra piece of mind it’s only a couple hundred dollars more but if your going big boost then upgrading the injectors, pistons, rods, oil pump and fuel pump is the way to go.
The block was used with a GT2560R first, so pistons were less of a requirement back then

I've just started my MX5 journey with a junker NB with rust, dents, scratches and 120k miles on the clock, my budget is next to nothing and everything is taking me a lot of time. I've had it for almost a year and only just got the basic servicing and MOT stuff done.

That thing would be out of fuel at 290whp on gasoline. More like 15-17psi at most?
640s will flow probably around 400hp at 43.5psi lol. I pushed 420cc rx8 yellows to their limit around 290whp.

@@shinobi1203 I think I've got it set to 7200 on a 225/45/15 tire the speedo stops at 225km but gps speed said i got a little more out of it. Not what my car is set up for at all but i cant imagine getting another 30+mph out of it

175 mph sounds a bit much for a OEM Gearbox and a 3.3 Mfactory. Running a E92 BMW Gearbox and a 3.3 M factory on my EFR 8374 500 HP MK2.5, which has a longer 6th gear as any of the OEM Miata gearboxed and GPS im hitting 170 mph. unless it runs till 8k rpm ofc...
A 3.636 torsen mated to a factory 5 speed will top 171 revving to 7400rpm. 165 with a 6 speed. I'm sure a 3.3 will easily go 175
........ so where'd the 175 MPH go?

How tall is Matt? I'm 6'3" or 191 cm and have had to do the Foamectomy on the seats to fit in so I like the look of that seat if Matt is a real size ;)
im 5'11 buddy, i did the foamectomy before i ran bucket seats, you do gain alot of room buy putting the seat alot further down and back :)

@@poseidonasas no a small noise at 40ish but nothing bad, I went to a race dash with GPS speedo because I could never get the speed correct on the standard clocks

Well, the pistons can handel 330-350 hp. Main thing destroying them is temperature. But the rods are the biggest weakpoint when trying to go for big power on the miata
