You can if they are round Swarovski crystals. They have holes in the middle. I sewed some onto my bridal veil. With flatback crystals, you can glue them on.
They have talked about this issue on the show before. The reason why most venues don't want to book travelers isn't strictly because of prejudice. It's because of venues other travelers have completely trashed in the past. They have a reputation of being pretty rowdy, and violent. I mean, look at the way they treat women. I'm not saying the venues are in the right. I'm just stating what I've heard on earlier episodes of this show.
These girls actually seem quite sweet - I mean they really look after their families and love each other so much. I feel sad that these venues cancel on them and treat them badly. I STILL for the life of me can't work out where on earth they get the money for the weddings and the hair extensions and fancy clothes she wears, It's very strange society, they build great family bonds, but ignore education and equality of rights.
it is their ways, slowly that is starting to change, however, the women are devoted to their kids and extended tight-knight families and community. The women love and protect and nurture their children, and extended families. They are never allowed to sneak around and go out without a chaperone, and are kept very short lead, so to speak, and I think that that way of raising them to be virgins until they are wed and kept within their tight knit families is beautiful
I think the venue people are afraid of the drinking and fighting which seem to be inevitable. On American TV the men said that was what they do at weddings, drink and then fight and of course the last thing which is calling the cops who probably want to get caught up in this mess as much as having a migraine headache. People love to make money and as competitive as wedding venues are it has to be something big for them to turn the gypsies away. People want to rush to judgment and say they are prejudice but I think they are afraid they won't have a venue the next day.
They get the money from scamming people and doing dodgy jobs for money upfront. We've had such a bad time over here in Australia with them coming over here and going door to door taking advantage especially of elderly people with a bit of cash in the bank and saying they'll do their roof, fences, black top their driveway etc etc. Getting thousands of dollars up front and doing the bare minimum. When they get found out they jump states and do it all over again and slip out the country with A LOT of money or are found out by the police and either deported or leave the country before they can get caught. It's absolutely disgusting.
I swear....if this is Patty and Marys wedding again... Lol it is!! Its the only one UA-cam suggests to me every so often...and I click it EVERYTIME!! lol It was a beautiful wedding though. Just elegant.
You are 100% allowed to do that. A business can turn away anyone at any time, but you're right, they just give any excuse. They don't hire a gypsy because they're a gypsy, and they'll just say that they didn't think they fit the job description, or they were under (or over) qualified, or just didn't fit with the flow of the business. It's all about the wording.
Wouldn't it be a good money making opportunity for someone to cater to the traveller weddings? Can't be that difficult to have a hotel/convention center type arrangement for weddings and cater to that culture just as the dressmaker and cake maker have
No because they wind up screwing over their own people. They either don't pay or they damage the property because they have no respect. In the end, its not worth the owner bothering. I used to have a shoppe and when they'd come in I would have to be on top of them because they're fast. Face it. They have a horrible reputation. As we see here with both venues canceling.
Sad that the episodes that I was watching seemed like there are parts missing. The dress maker is talking and have way through a sentence it skips to when she is in the bakery.
I don't mean to sound rude, but I have a feeling that some of these venues that refused them were not discriminating as much as they were honestly booked and three or two weeks is too short notice for weddings. Most aspects of wedding planning take months!
If you had seen the whole episode, you'll see that she had two venues on reserve and both called back after and cancelled. So it probably was because they were travellers. It's a big coincidence for both venues to "forget" they were booked and then cancel.
I felt like she was disappointed, and a bit ungrateful to be honest. But I think it’s such a cute venue! Guests could also go outside and see the animals during the reception!
I work at a nonprofit and when we rent out event space, the fee paid goes to the organization's operating expenses so yes you are helping the nonprofit's cause.
I’ll say this about the girls, they never complain and they’re always happy with what they get- they make the best out of their situations. I love watching their reactions when they get their dresses and she could’ve been really horrible or spoiled about this venue - I mean it probably smelled like animals but she made the best out of it- I mean Thelma worked so hard- I wish Thelma or one of them would just open their own travelers venue that they all could use so they didn’t have to depend on anyone else and no one could cancel on them.
I worked for a conference centre years ago. We had gypsy weddings, until one ended with two being stabbed, then we had to refuse bookings. A case of a few making it bad for the rest.
The video cuts from the car to the cake maker like by are missing the car part she was saying something and it cut in the middle of her word to the cake making part !!!
Another thing I've heard/seen on this show/other documentaries is how they barter for things. They may or may not be paying for services. Some travelers do services in exchange for say a venue or whatever it may be. Most businesses prefer money.
no its the girl who is in charge of making the dress..she feels like shes doing more work than the other girls who are starting at half 10....thats what i got from it anyhow
Not sure how it works in the UK, but in USA you can NOT turn away people from a job for discrimination reasons. That doesn't mean that they won't. I know plenty women that don't get hired because they're pregnant. Of course they don't say that's the reason, but it's really obvious.

@jewelsthomas I highly doubt someone would be willingly to tell them that they can't have their party there because they're travellers, if that's what you're saying.
Hate to be a dick, but seeing the 1 minute trailer for this show I can completely understand why there is a degree of discrimination. I'm not even going to apologize for that blatantly discriminatory remark.
I bet that they're able to accumulate more money when they don't have to pay a mortgage on a house, I think they mainly live within their means. I really like how they live, it'd be fun to be able to just pick up and leave whenever.
Even if they own a "Double-wide" manufactured home (Called a "Chateau" by manufactured home dealers in Ireland) their home has a lower tax rate than a house built on a permanent foundation or one with a below- grade cellar. I suppose it varies between couples and families Some people are savers and others are spenders. The above said... Most of them don't eat very nutritious food (Jus sayin' -- Soda isn't one of the 4 basic food groups.) and many Travellers/Gypsies smoke, chew, vape and/or drink, take drugs. The women also like tanning salons (at least in the UK/USA)
@jewelsthomas You don't seem to realize that discrimination runs deep. There's still people who'll turn away African Americans or other minority groups because of racism. As long as they have signs that state that the owner can turn away anyone they please, they can't get into trouble for discrimination.
How are these people Royal? Why are they trying so hard to be royal when they are not royal? Gluing dresses and the males not dressed for the occasion? That’s not royal.
@samacoy I guess that as a venue you would want to be booked for HUGE weddings with ppl who like the frills so really why don't they allow traveller weddings. Real reasons because discrimination is against the law, Right?
Don't really know. The only way I have ever heard it explained is that Gypsies are originally from India. I think Romanian gypsies are from these? And Travelers are from Ireland.
The term 'gypsy' was originally used to describe Roma (aka Romani) people who are a traditionally nomadic ethnic group which originated from the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent. Nowadays 'gypsy' tends to be used not only for Roma people, but for other traditionally nomadic ethnic groups like Romanichals (Romani+English) and Irish Travellers (genetically Irish and a totally different ethnic group than Romani).
Irish Travellers are native Irish people whom, legend has it; were driven off their land during the Williamite War in Ireland (1689--1691)[1] which was a bloody time between English Protestants and the Irish Roman Catholics who supported the diposed (Catholic) king of England (James ii). Native English travellers are descended from people that (most experts think) lost their land in England and Lowland Scotland during the Agricultural Revolution's Land clearances (To make way for sheep herding). Some of these people went to the big cities and worked in the industries of the early Industrial Revolution. Some signed on to be Indentured Servants (Temporary slaves) in the American colonies. Others.-- Native travellers (that also existed in the Netherlands and Norway, as well as in other European countries (who took up traveling lifefor similar reasons as Travellers in the British Isles -- Wars, Land clearances.) They became seasonal laborers; Did, traditional odd-jobs (such as the repair of the tin linings of copper pots and pans; Made "Tramp' furniture" (made of willow, etc. and inlaid/highly decorated lightweight furniture); Horse breeding/trading and Dog breeding (courser hounds) Some Travellers (like Roma/Romani/Gypsies) were also know for their musical, singing and dancing skills. Some also workrd for circuses, and fun-fair companies; some were/are professional boxing/MMA, etc. participants. Traveling was a rough life, but they had their place in society until the invention of the internal combustion engine = No more need for large numbers of plain old "working" horses. Also as the Industrial Revolution continued, the need for people to be able to read became more and more important; as machines became more complex and medicines, etc. had instructions. Irish and English Travellers still raise/train horses as a hobby.[2] Some race them (crossed with Standarbreds - Trotters/Pacers) --SEE Gypsy Vanner Horse video. ____________________________________________ 1.) Williamite War in Ireland en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williamite_War_in_Ireland 2.) Gypsy Vanner Horse ua-cam.com/video/Qqh0Qq0gNBQ/v-deo.html
Plus if someone really wanted to make money, they should build a reception hall somewhere just outside the city and except all the gypsy people and their money. :)
Why say you’re a traveler if it just causes venues to turn you down? (Which is disgusting and morally wrong of course). Do they have particular last names or something?
I dont understand, I dont see the big deal. I would love to be a traveller.... get married then go all over the world with my husband ;) of course I would stop once I had kids
I live in a fancy trailer/ camper it's nice and big we live in it during the summer up until Halloween then we go back to our house. Everyone well most 95% I'd say discriminate gypsies and travelers and it's not fair period. Not all weddings or parties break out into fights. It's not as common as you think!
Your comment would have been perfect if you hadn't used "race" or "races". As a biology major, race doesn't exist in my opinion. Anyway Gypsy sure as hell is nowhere near being its own "race".
Gypsies originate in the NW of the Indian subcontinent (Punjab region) They left, I think, in the 13th century and went to Constantinople (now Istanbul -- "The City") and Egypt as entertainers. Native (name the European country) Traveling people (like the Irish Travellers) are Eruopean ethnics who became displaced because of the wars in Europe over religion and for empire as well as because of Land Clearances to get rid of the tiny crofts/lots in favor of sheep herding..
Someone needs to open a wedding venue that specializes with travelers food, entertainment everything

Princesses Diana's wedding -- So many
imitations of her dress! I imagine that
Princesses Beatrice's wedding will inspire
some too.
I'm so confused at the argument at 5:49 --was it between the bride and Thelma? What were they arguing over?
No, Thelma's employee Leeann quit. She now owns her own dress business.
DKNY BAG 6:10 SERIOUSLY NOW??? where do they get their goddamn money????
their families of the men go out and get work, they do the jobs no one else wants, repair roads, lay tar, gravel, the men are brought up with a strong work ethic and rarely ever do any take welfare unlike certain sections of the UK community. They are taught that it is the men's job to go and work and bring home the bacon, to ensure that their wives lives are happy and allowing the women to do what they have been raised their whole lives to do, raise their families. No latch keep kids, no dumping the kids on relations, or dumping their kids into child care centres. They are never a burden on the welfare dollar, they work they work and work hard. That's why they are financially middle-class level. There is nothing wrong with having the money to buy occasionally a luxury item, jealousy is a curse
@@gabriellecrofts1783 Sure. My next door neighbor got taken by Gypsy scam.
I'd get married at animal shelter. That's brilliant
Even if they own a "Double-wide" manufactured home
(Called a "Chateau" by manufactured home dealers in
Ireland) their home has a lower tax rate than a house
built on a permanent foundation or one with a below-
grade cellar.
I suppose it varies between couples and families Some
people are savers and others are spenders. The above
said...
Most of them don't eat very nutritious food (Jus sayin' --
Soda isn't one of the 4 basic food groups.) and many
Travellers/Gypsies smoke, chew, vape and/or drink, take
drugs. The women also like tanning salons (at least in the
UK/USA)
@jewelsthomas You don't seem to realize that discrimination runs deep. There's still people who'll turn away African Americans or other minority groups because of racism. As long as they have signs that state that the owner can turn away anyone they please, they can't get into trouble for discrimination.
A business owner can serve whom
he/she chooses to serve.
It's called capitalism.
How are these people Royal? Why are they trying so hard to be royal when they are not royal?
Gluing dresses and the males not dressed for the occasion? That’s not royal.
Where do these people get the money for these huge weddings??
Men start working around 12-13 and right from go a portion of earnings are saved for weddings. Parents start saving the day the daughter is born.
@jewelsthomas It's simply because they are travellers. Most people frown upon the travellers, thinking that they're just a bunch of losers.
@samacoy I guess that as a venue you would want to be booked for HUGE weddings with ppl who like the frills so really why don't they allow traveller weddings. Real reasons because discrimination is against the law, Right?
Chum winalot lol
how can they pay for all of that?
What is exactly the difference between travellers and gypsies? Thanks in advance to whoever clarifies it for me. :)
Irish Travellers are native Irish people
whom, legend has it; were driven off
their land during the Williamite War in
Ireland (1689--1691)[1] which was a bloody
time between English Protestants and
the Irish Roman Catholics who supported
the diposed (Catholic) king of England
(James ii).
Native English travellers are descended
from people that (most experts think)
lost their land in England and Lowland
Scotland during the Agricultural
Revolution's Land clearances (To make
way for sheep herding).
Some of these people went to the big
cities and worked in the industries of
the early Industrial Revolution.
Some signed on to be Indentured Servants
(Temporary slaves) in the American colonies.
Others.-- Native travellers (that also existed
in the Netherlands and Norway, as well as
in other European countries (who took up
traveling lifefor similar reasons as Travellers
in the British Isles -- Wars, Land clearances.)
They became seasonal laborers; Did, traditional
odd-jobs (such as the repair of the tin linings of
copper pots and pans; Made "Tramp' furniture"
(made of willow, etc. and inlaid/highly decorated
lightweight furniture); Horse breeding/trading and
Dog breeding (courser hounds)
Some Travellers (like Roma/Romani/Gypsies)
were also know for their musical, singing and
dancing skills.
Some also workrd for circuses, and fun-fair
companies; some were/are professional
boxing/MMA, etc. participants.
Traveling was a rough life, but they had their
place in society until the invention of the
internal combustion engine = No more
need for large numbers of plain old
"working" horses. Also as the Industrial
Revolution continued, the need for people
to be able to read became more and
more important; as machines became
more complex and medicines, etc. had
instructions.
Irish and English Travellers still raise/train
horses as a hobby.[2] Some race them (crossed
with Standarbreds - Trotters/Pacers) --SEE
Gypsy Vanner Horse video.

A wedding at an animal shelter? Ugh horrible! Were the local prisons and slaughter houses /abattoirs booked? No room at Broadmoor?
Don't be a snob
The animal rescue place had a
petting zoo, education center
and a venue for dining. It isn't
like a local RSPCA shelter.
When she started going off at 5:35 I know she's speaking English but I don't know what the fuck she is saying
Had to laugh seeing the pigs and the raggy sheep.
Who cares if they are travelers their money just as good as anyone elses money that piss me off sorry for may language wheeww the audacity
Plus if someone really wanted to make money, they should build a reception hall somewhere just outside the city and except all the gypsy people and their money. :)
accept the gypsy money and yes what a great idea
Why say you’re a traveler if it just causes venues to turn you down? (Which is disgusting and morally wrong of course). Do they have particular last names or something?
Those rabbits won't last long. 9:24
Where do you live? Are you Travelers? Do your kiddos Trick or Treat?
Glue guns? Really?
nothing screams classy like a dress put together with hot glue. Yikes!!!
How else would you think they could adhere jewels?
You are so right, but it is still so messed up. Discrimination, racism. All people who are these things are ignorant.
@TheLolalee
haha n her face . . . O_O
HAHAHAH blond white blue eyed gipsies?! LOL. nice tried.
Irish travelers actually
Racism is soo yesterday.. Grow up!!
Your comment would have been perfect if you hadn't used "race" or "races". As a biology major, race doesn't exist in my opinion. Anyway Gypsy sure as hell is nowhere near being its own "race".
more like a sub-culture?
Gypsies originate in the NW of the
Indian subcontinent (Punjab region)
They left, I think, in the 13th century
and went to Constantinople (now
Istanbul -- "The City") and Egypt
as entertainers.
Native (name the European country)
Traveling people (like the Irish Travellers)
are Eruopean ethnics who became displaced
because of the wars in Europe over
religion and for empire as well as
because of Land Clearances to get rid
of the tiny crofts/lots in favor of sheep
herding..
