  • What does it mean to become a gypsy wife?
Violet Ann has been employed for 5 years and lived an independent life until now. She is due to marry a gypsy traveller and will need to give up her job, move out of her house and into a marital caravan and become a full time gypsy wife.
We follow Violet throughout the run up to her wedding and also see how she is adjusting to her new gypsy wife duties.

I had to breakup with my fiance because he said "I am too ambitious for a woman" and asked me to quit the job after having kids. It was going to be an arranged marriage, there were no feelings to get hurt. I don't regret it. It was liberating. I smiled for hours after breaking up like crazy girl. I am getting married to another guy next year in March. In india dumping a man right before marriage is not something society appreciate. But, it's your life. It's your responsibility to make yourself happy. No one's gonna do that for you

I'm indian and the amount of failed arranged marriages (including my own parents) ive seen but they are still trapped in that marriage is just sad. Divorce and calling off the wedding especially if it is the girl that does it is something that our culture really doesn't appreciate. And they always look down on the women especially as if they were the only cause of a failed marriage or engagement.
I agree. We must be responsible for our own happiness. Whilst our parents raise us up, they cannot control our life choices especially once we become adults. We are the only person in our lives that should have the last say. The only person that's going to be with as as long as we live is ourselves. So we should so everything to make ourselves happy.
Thankfully, my sister got married to the love of her life and I hope I will find someone I love enough and someone who loves me and won't restrict me from being myself to marry in the future. If not, I will stay single forever lol.

Her dress is pretty. It sounds like she regrets her decision to marry at the end. Once you get a taste of freedom it's hard to go back to just staying in the house cooking and cleaning all day. That's why Gypsy girls are forced to marry young, you can't miss the freedom/independence you never had.

🤔 I think people can long for freedom even if they have never experienced it. But the younger they are when they marry and taken out of formal schooling, the less likely they will have the resources and confidence to pursue a different way of life. What is sad is this way of life strips them of options. I haven’t finished this video, but she looks sad to me throughout. Perhaps she is just reserved. The mother seems a bit too pleased with herself that her daughter is succumbing to the lifestyle.

Because gypsies have struggled over the centuries this has given them the attitude to do all they can for their own survival, and unfortunately, thinking this way can lead to decisions which negatively affect others.
There is a lot of crime that comes with traveller/gypsy communities and, even though Violet may be the exception to the rule, unfortunately, if you are associated with bad people you will get painted with the same brush. I daresay that this is probably why her parents no longer live on a gypsy site, but if so then why are they content for Violet to live there.

It's a shit culture that as you go east, marries kids off at 11 and 12 years old and has girls with three kids by age 16. Then they complain they are poor and discriminated against. They are the architects of their own woes. No time for them. Only minority in Europe that clings to child marriage and shuns all education in favour of kids fucking kids and having babies. They prefer running organized begging rings and constant pointless reproduction to going to school.

So if she was raised her whole life in a solid house oh, why go back to being a traveler? Why can't her and her husband also just buy a house? You can retain the memories of your history without having to repeat exactly how they lived. It was obviously a different world back then. You could just stop anywhere make a campfire. Today that would be trespassing.
