My heart goes out to her she is very brave for speaking up. Back in 2011 I was a civilian and I was raped by a man who was a Sergeant in the Marines. He even stalked me after the rape. I suffered from depression and PTSD. I was treated with therapy and antidepressants. I'm doing better than I was back then.
Update: it's 2016....for those wondering where I'm at now, coming forward with all of this and taking time away from my MOS 12Y to travel under Forscom and speak on the topic of sexual assault to other service members did in fact hurt my long term career when staying in the military. When it became time to progress to E5 I had little actual time in my MOS which made it extremely difficult to make points. I also suffered from some physical injuries which later led to a medical retirement. I wanted to make the Army a career so bad but I had everything stacked against me. However.....I would not change how I handle any of this because I know I helped many others and that to me made more of a difference then anything I could've ever expected. SSG Corral will be released sometime this year as long as he remains in good behavior. Thank you for the encouragement and comments. Let's continue to help others who may be to afraid to speak out. Warmly Natasha Woodruff (Schuette)
I hope my comments above help. You are one of our "sisters" (still) in the military sense which is not given out lightly and the "predator" who did this to you - and his other victims is a outright traitor to the service and the country. This SSG Corral just did not betray you and violate your trust, he ruthlessly violated the trust of all men and women in the service just as surely as someone emptying others canteens for themselves and stealing ammunition magazines out of peoples ammunition pouches. This bastard and anyone like them exemplify what Leavenworth prison is all about and please keep telling your story, this will be your continuing service for the people in the field who serve as they are depending on people just like you. When these people hear the zip of a projectile past them and white hot metal starts flying we all have to act as one; bothers and sisters; indivisible
I am a mother going through this with my daughter that is now no longer with me. She served Army then went into Marine corp and that is where it all started. I would love to talk to you I really need guidance with what is going on?
This is why I still don't support women in the military. I still feel they should be separated from men and should only be allowed in support roles. It's not sexism as much as it is protectionism. Men, who have been sexually starved and have power, will abuse that power. Obviously not all of them. But removing temptation is the best way to prevent a crime. That's why we lock our doors.
I decided today to maybe fill in some gaps of this story to help others have a better picture. During the time this video was filmed I (girl in the video) was still in the middle of a second case through the military justice system. With that, many aspects of my story had to be omitted so they didn't interfe with the on going investigation. With SGM Stewart's help we will hopefully be doing a second video in the near future with the remainder of my story. Thanks for all the supporting comments. Please be on the look out for the second part in the future. SPC Natasha Schuette (retired)

How can any military member ever accept/allow their own female soldiers being raped or assaulted by their own side at anytime? Wether its deployment, training, leave etc. They are your own countrymen, take the same oath, fight and bleed with you. I am disappointed that this is so common amongst the military, who I always respect and look up to as the "measure of a man" they are meant to show integrity, honour and moral courage. Be better, do better, protect the women brave enough to serve alongside you cos one day it might be you that needs protection, in a fire fight, a medevac, during a ptsd flare up etc. Look after each other.
Congratulations on your courage and initiative, Private, both for reporting the case, and for making the video. You have protected other women from your abuser, and probably others as well. You have also done the Army a service, and I hope they will recognise that.
As a parent, especially a father how could you cope with something like that happening to your daughter or son. The military is losing a winnable war at home. USAF1998-2010
She is so brave it is unacceptable that she would give herself up to protect this country and we would allow this to happen to her. And her Outlook on it now is amazing she should be in charge of all investigations she should be put in some sort of position of Authority for her bravery and speaking out on this issue.
1988, Fort Jackson. Me too. You have expressed the important parts of the experience I had in a very clear and honest way. I thank you. I wish it had never happened to you, or me. Part of the reason I spoke up was because of the sly, well rehearsed behavior that showed me that it wasn't his first time. I was determined to at least try to prevent him from harming future female soldiers in his role. We had 60 in our platoon. 27 of us ended up testifying against him. He was convicted of everything. His sentence? Move into barracks for 6 months. 200 docked per month for 6 months. Bar to reenlistment with an honorable discharge. I can't tell people in a clear way how much I learned about trust from this incident. Namely that every person has potential to harm me. I hope we can chat sometime. You could be me, in that interview. Thank you for doing it.
Thank you for this video. I am shipping for BCT in 5 days and assault is something I worry about, my husband is a Drill Sgt and he told me if I ever see some shady crap, to speak up... if you don't speak up more people will be victimized.
I am sorry this happened to you PFC Schuette. The Army has there thin green line. I hope you are doing well. If you ever need a ear to bend I will listen
Very similar to what happened to me....In Basic....in fact at Ft. Jackson. Also again by an Army officer during an Obgyn appt a year and a half later. This is just awful...I thought I was some isolated case.....i am learning years later...this is more of the culture than rare incidents..I use the VA now- I am thinking of sharing this with my doctor.....I think it is important. They finally got out of me I had MST- but I have not elaborated at all...
The quest for character is an on going battle for some. Living the Army Values and NCO Creed would have prevented this soldier's assault. Stand strong and my hat is off to you!
you know now that i think about it i've had 2 friends tell me that the military isn't for everyone i realized if i joined i am expendable just cannon fodder for the higher ups i've wanted to join because the army has been in my families generation since the vietnam era and wanted to make a difference but hearing stories like these why would i want to join something that is no longer honorable? i don't know who to trust anymore there are so many families who still have loved ones "missing in action" the sad part is our government knows that there are men out there still behind enemy lines or pows and they aren't going to do anything to bring them back home so i am never going to join
Here’s a good example of how trust and Army values are thorn. Video may be old, point and the message is still relevant and important to deliver to our soldiers. Disgusting leaders like the one mention in this video are those who ruin the trust between young soldier and their leaders. May this video educate those of you who are passionate about THE SHARP program. And help those who truly need help. I love my our Corp, but we need to come together and fight against getting rid off Sexual assault and harassment in our Army and military as whole. My CSM is a good example of a leader who is passionate about the SHARP program. One of her quotes is “not in our ambush”. Tiger stick together and they hunt in packs. Point here is that we need to come together and fight against this types of crimes and miss behaviors. Is not tolerated and as long as we fight back, we will deliver the message to perpetrators that we won’t stand for any type of this nonsense. Keep up the fight and let’s help our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen. We are one body, one force and one team against this fight. Love you all and may this message be of inspiration for those who are as passionate as I am against the fight of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment.
Yeah your right about that. Idk? Im trying right now though too get in the Corps. Anyway but the mind of a woman operates differently, but my point is woman can be visious killers too though. Just look at women prison violence. Its pretty nasty.
+Giovanni Garcia Negative. I will be fair and break down your statements separately. The fighting of today's war is maneuver warfare. Maneuver warfare requires lots of moving pieces, and in the Infantry those moving pieces are humans wearing almost another person in gear and weaponry. That movement has to happen very very quickly, and in rapid succession, regardless of terrain or weather. The manner in which most gear is carried is against a woman's biology, whose body was not designed to carry massive weight above the shoulders or on the back. The load out cannot be lessened and the speed of maneuvers cannot be slowed without inflicting casualties. Therefore, no, a woman cannot fight like a man. It's physically impossible to for women to perform in firefights like men do in maneuver warfare. To acknowledge their capability as warriors, a warrior is one who specializes in combat or warfare, by definition. To be technical, women can partake greatly in war effort. In many roles, just as well as the best men. In that sense, yes you are correct brother, their deserve that nod and moment of silence because some gender neutral roles in the military still require them to be close to danger. However, to say they will fight just like men is as inaccurate as saying men can bear through childbirth just like a woman. Sure, i'd bet my ass there's plenty of men mentally durable enough to put up with the pain for 9 months, but it's biologically impossible and it's a debate that will go nowhere good. Unless warfare is someday waged in a drastically different manner, a manner in which it's no longer beneficial in any regard to be physically masculine, women will not fight like men. So until the world is totally submerged beneath water, it's peripherally insulting to the men that do fight for a living. We do a pretty good job of it. Please do not push for women in fighting positions in the military, it's a mishap that will endanger many, many lives.
This happens because the military attracts the wrong kind of person. It generally attracts people who are a little rough and already more prone to violence and are a lot less enlightened than someone who is more high-minded, like someone who might read some high-brow philosophy or who might pursue more intellectual pursuits. Its the same reason you would be more likely to be sexually assaulted or even just violently assaulted by a roofer than a white-collar professional such as an architect. Like for example, many blue-collar jobs that involve heavy physical labour tend to attract more rough and possibly violent-prone or rapey people than someone who goes to college for 4 years and ends up in a professional white-collar job in an office somewhere. It's also the reason alot of working class people tend to be more racist than rich people who might work in professional-type jobs. I'm not sure of the reason for this, but this is what I've noticed. I think maybe professions where you have to think deeply about things attract more enlightened individuals, and if you look at the military when the privates go through their basic training they are essentially treated just like grunts who follow orders and maybe this attracts a less-enlightened type of individual who may be more prone to be a follower rather than a leader and so may be more prone to follow along with his fellow harrassers/rapists when they are plotting these types of behaviours. Like in the movie,"North Country," with Charlize Theron (which is based on a true story), they were constantly subjected to sexual harrassment and threats of rape by their fellow co-workers, but they were working in a very blue-collar environment which involved heavy physical labour. I've noticed that on construction sites or in lumber mills, for example, people are allowed to make overtly racist and sexist comments without fear of dismissal that if you were working in an office environment who would be fired on the spot. There is a culture of civility and political correctness (which is a good thing) that exists in a white-collar environment that doesn't exist in these labour jobs which are also predominantly male. Not try to be stereotypical, just making an observation, and to be quite frank, I actually don't know why this would be the case, other than the fact that maybe the professional-type jobs attract a more high-minded person who might be less likely to engage in these types of behaviours, but not really sure the reason
This is just not true at all! I am one of those roofers that you claim are blue collar and violent. What you choose as a profession has nothing to do with the intellect a person has. I qualified for a few intel jobs in the military but my passion lies in building and creating things. That doesn't make someone who is an executive any better than me. And it doesn't make me anymore violent or that person any less. A lot of richer and high in command people tend to let it go to their head and abuse that power. So a president could just as likely rape someone as a "roofer".
Aaliyah chapman He didn't say everyone in those professions. It's sad, though, because these same ignorant people all come from the same generation of inbred and ignorant families. Their parents are trashy individuals who had a kid at age 16, can't save enough money cause they blow it all on crack and natty light, and then raise more shitheads just like them. These shitheads grow up, cause trouble, just like their parents, and then pop more kids out of their worthless bodies. It's a vicious cycle that results in millions of pieces of shit each year. They don't even know that the $1 investment for a condom could potentially save their future and prevent them from turning into a worthless leech on society. Then, the divorces roll in, pay cuts happen, and they start cashing in their welfare, food stamps, and medicare. These people grow up with no ambition and no passion. They just wait for the next day they can get trashed with all their friends. But their smart friends go off to do better things with their life and to enjoy the better things in life. Meanwhile, these losers stay in high school forever and never get a good job and are always strapped for cash and living paycheck-to-paycheck. I'm not saying that having fun in life will turn you into a shithead. And I'm not saying that bad parents result in bad kids. But when a bad parent lets their kid have fun all day long and never do any work, whether it's taking care of a dog or doing their homework, they never learn the definition of personal responsibility or discipline. Some of these people probably even think that their actions don't affect anyone beyond themselves--resulting in selfish actions that hurt people and ruin other people's good lives. People like this drill sgt. need to be lined up against a wall and executed, honestly. Don't bother jailing them and trying to rehabilitate them, we already have enough pieces of shit in society today. It's one thing to break some stupid laws, but sexual assault is never alright and it's never okay to do that to another person. These people don't give a shit about any of that. They don't care about anyone else but themselves and should be removed from society. They shouldn't even breathe the same air that hard working and honest people breathe. Give them carbon monoxide to breathe, that's perfect for them.
Aaliyah chapman I'm actually not sure of the reason for this though, and actually it's just a generalization not a hard and fast rule. The military in general attracts the wrong kind of person. The trades for whatever reason attract people who are more rough around the edges than a profession like a doctor or lawyer, and to be quite frank, I have no idea why. This is why a roofer or drywaller always looks and acts more rougher and rugged than an architect or doctor. I think it may have to do with the fact that schooling may attract more high-minded individuals who think about philosophical and intellectual things and worry less about which hockey or basketball team is gonna win whatever cup or playoff or whatever or how much beer to guzzle or UFC or something. But in offices generally there is a culture of civility and politeness that doesn't exist on a construction site. On constructions sites and lumber mills it's very common to hear racist remarks, and generally more lowbrow conversation. In an office environment you can actually lose your job over making even the most begign comment that may even be taken as even mildly prejudicial. I have no idea why this is the case as tradespeople are very skilled individuals who do things that are very difficult and take skill, but there appears to be a connection between the two. I think people who are more prone to be violent, are for whatever reason attracted to the military for some reason, like possibly someone who constantly thinks about guns, ammo, reading Soldier of Fortune magazine, dressing up in camouflage, and stockpiles weapons and whatnot. If you watch the movie "North Country" with Charlize Theron, it's a real life story of a woman who worked in the trades who had to endure all kinds of sexual harrassment in the workplace, including and up to sexual assault. It's funny 'cuz if she had worked in an office she never would have had to deal with any of this, as anyone who engages in this type of conduct would be fired. The reason for this is unclear to me, but it's also the reason a blue-collar worker would be more likely to be more racist than a white collar professional as well. Again, I'm not sure why this is the case. This may seem like a new idea or strange concept to you but this idea is very common and even taken for granted in other cultures such as India where doing physical labour is a huge social taboo, and many middle class people don't want their children to get into these professions because of the type of person they may have contact with, which they want their children to avoid. Obviously this is a bit over the top, and these taboos are not as strong in North America as they would be in India but generally I noticed that this is somewhat true in North America as well.
You are brave! Jesus Christ Loves You! John 3:16 New International Version (NIV) 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Although rape is mostly perpetrated by men and women are usually the victims, rape and sexual assault can be perpetrated by anyone and anyone can be a victim of it. That wouldn't end all rape. Besides, there are many other effects of separating people by sex that would not do well for an army.
Man here and U.S. Army veteran. When I was in basic training, a guy in my platoon had a chance to fornicate with one of the female drill sergeants. The only reason that he didn't, is because in typical 18 year old fashion, he told all of us.
I did (4) Years in the NAVY 2000-2004, & our squadron was male only for my first 3 years, my last year we transitioned to females slowly being added. I can tell you this = We also had a couple *pretty female sailors*, that attracted attention. They knew it, they ran with it, they had relationship's (plural), & they *manipulated the system with it*..... Then they would threaten false accusations.........So not all female soldiers are innocent of they're own misdoings!
As a female soldier I consider legitimately false accusations a slap in the face to people who have actually been assaulted and a waste of time to those investigating it. In my opinion that makes them predators as well because they recognize the power they have over another person and choose to abuse it for their own benefit no matter the consequences.
Natasha Woodruff, I am a Victim Advocate in the Army and was wondering if you tell your story in person? Is there any way to get in contact with you? My name is Abbey Tappenbeck
Yeah, sure takes courage to speak up while other women will stay silent and only admit it privately to her. She is right that it is not the armys' fault but the persons fault.
🇺🇸 I'm a geust I'm a refugee i have been threatened to death if i speak up 😭 🇺🇸 we're all the same in front of rules of ⚖️ nobody is caring our human rights i have contacted everywhere that I thought I'll get my rights it's known crimes against the humanity 😭 🇺🇸 and there're still following me with threatening death or disable 😭 where's the constitution where's the ⚖️justice where's the human rights am i diffrent from the other human beings!
mason101592 no one in the military pronounces sergeant as sar-gent. Drill sergeant becomes drillzAr, First Sergeant is Fur Sarnt. Sergeant major is Sarn major. Basically in the military, especially the Army, vowels and consonants blend for ease of communication.
in basic training, they tell women e=xactly how to deal with situation like this woman describes, before they ever get to their training unit. She MUST take some responsibility for her own welfare. She can't scream, or make a commotion?
Why woman should join defence service at all....? What nonsense is this. ? You want to work 24 hours with Sex starved men ....and expect them all to control them. ....that's too much!
he don't just ruin her future but also ruined dream to be a soldier.
Yes very much so
People abuse their authority.
And even though abuse of authority happens anywhere and everywhere, it's really severe in the military. One of the major reasons why I didn't stay in.
she has an amazing attitude

she was very brave & courageous for going through all the hell she endured. and finally some justice at the end.
this gets me pissed off, that people stuck behind this drill sergeant
I met a lot of drill Sgt's in the basic that thought they could commit murder and get promoted. this doesn't surprise me.

I was just talking about this to a friend that has a daughter that wants to enlist....terrible.
All of you, go out and watch a documentary called "The invisible war". Tell me if you do and what you think.
Kudos for speaking up!
What a good strong woman
God if I ever join the military I pray that don't happen to me. Especially, when I'm not the type to talk to others.
Don't join , us military love rape whether they rape Thier own soldiers or civilians from other countries
I swear this is just like my story. Damn near verbatim.

Sue those degenerates
The quest for character is an on going battle for some. Living the Army Values and NCO Creed would have prevented this soldier's assault. Stand strong and my hat is off to you!
Too bad he wasn't fired, but at least they did something...
frickinmatchbox but the fact is there is no evidence
You are so very brave. I have a story much like this. It affects me still.
Ugh this is honestly just breaking me apart . I'm joining the Army for basic training after high school... this is making me terrified..
are you a girl? if so don't wory, this almost never happens.
Erik de Jong it happens to guy's too ..saaaad
SGM Stewart, Just sat through your class about CAPE at Ft. Polk. Great video and great class.
best of luck to you. you seem like a very sweet person. very disturbing to know something like this happened to you (or to anyone)
you know now that i think about it i've had 2 friends tell me that the military isn't for everyone i realized if i joined i am expendable just cannon fodder for the higher ups i've wanted to join because the army has been in my families generation since the vietnam era and wanted to make a difference but hearing stories like these why would i want to join something that is no longer honorable? i don't know who to trust anymore there are so many families who still have loved ones "missing in action" the sad part is our government knows that there are men out there still behind enemy lines or pows and they aren't going to do anything to bring them back home so i am never going to join
Love you all and may this message be of inspiration for those who are as passionate as I am against the fight of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment.
thx for sharing and being a strong role model
Woman are very capable of being good warriors. Their body's are built diferen't
but they will fight just like a man.
+Giovanni Garcia You obviously have never been in the military
I understand. That's a good point.
+Giovanni Garcia Hey man, good luck trying to get in the Corps. :)
Oh shit, I like the Army , but now I need to think about it 😑
Lucero Rojas I hate to break it to you but this is every branch.
Courageous!
You are brave! Jesus Christ Loves You!
John 3:16
New International Version (NIV)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Why not make a women's division?
+Uchiha Hohua Women can harass and assault other women as well.
Although rape is mostly perpetrated by men and women are usually the victims, rape and sexual assault can be perpetrated by anyone and anyone can be a victim of it. That wouldn't end all rape. Besides, there are many other effects of separating people by sex that would not do well for an army.
It goes on and on,When will some one make it stop.
should of been more like 50 years
why is the military so fucked up
7.45 she said there were also some rape cases
Man here and U.S. Army veteran. When I was in basic training, a guy in my platoon had a chance to fornicate with one of the female drill sergeants. The only reason that he didn't, is because in typical 18 year old fashion, he told all of us.
didn't get that last part?
+Adam Ali he meant because the 18yr old told people that he could fornicate with the drill sergeant and it didnt happen because he told ...
aldazia degraffenreid oh anyways thanks for your service!
Then they would threaten false accusations.........So not all female soldiers are innocent of they're own misdoings!
singlestraightmale Fantastic story. That's not the point.
yes its a fantasy
🇺🇸 I'm a geust I'm a refugee i have been threatened to death if i speak up 😭 🇺🇸 we're all the same in front of rules of ⚖️ nobody is caring our human rights i have contacted everywhere that I thought I'll get my rights it's known crimes against the humanity 😭 🇺🇸 and there're still following me with threatening death or disable 😭 where's the constitution where's the ⚖️justice where's the human rights am i diffrent from the other human beings!
why is she saying serent
mason101592 no one in the military pronounces sergeant as sar-gent. Drill sergeant becomes drillzAr, First Sergeant is Fur Sarnt. Sergeant major is Sarn major. Basically in the military, especially the Army, vowels and consonants blend for ease of communication.
Helps to have a male friend in another branch to come in and kick that Sergeant's ass :D
damn my dream of having a female sniper cover me from a far is gone.
it was a voice over
sounds like an English teacher I had the guy was a fucking creep he loved to call on me in class and ridicule me
I hate the military.
That is how the military is don't expect to be treated with coffe and cokies...the rape issues that is another level
Sounds so familiar :(...
all i heard was her say that shes skip the chain of command when things dont go her way.
privates and DIs friends?!?! tha fuuuck!?!?
they are not friends. what are you talking about? and its DS not DI. DI's are for the Marines
Sharp
Some women call rape just for revenge or recognition, crazy stuff. I had my run in. That God we had cameras. So never just believe.
And the she's victimized twice by being used as propaganda.
Unless the two people give consent to have sex etc, then it's ok
Candyman LEEESGO! no it’s not. fraternizing is illegal in the military.
KARMA MARMA KARMA KARMA
in basic training, they tell women e=xactly how to deal with situation like this woman describes, before they ever get to their training unit. She MUST take some responsibility for her own welfare. She can't scream, or make a commotion?
I'm not understanding this comment
Should be calling it something else than "Assault" i thought there was a fight. Turns out he slapped her ass?
tactical stuff life saving stuff oh good she needs retraining
Another reason why split tails should not be in the military.
Damn this girl is cute compared to some of the other wookies in the military
Why woman should join defence service at all....?
What nonsense is this. ?
You want to work 24 hours with
Sex starved men ....and expect them all to control them. ....that's too much!
