Yes, when they said in the video "I usually trust doctors to know what's going on better with me than I do" I rolled my eyes. Most primary care physicians nowadays are foreign born and want to brush people off who ask for tests. They don't care and have a lack of understanding beyond the very basics.
Not people...MEN mock other men for being victims of sexual assault...the mocking mostly comes from men....even in Africa, the majority of people who are quick to judge and make fun of the situation are mostly, men...
Just want to point out that US military committed worse sexual abuse to war prisoners around the world with just a slap in the wrist when caught. With that said, any sexual abuse is wrong. I hope these victims can find healing and peace.
Oh lord. This is not just a US military thing during war. This happens in every country in wartime history. Certainly not justified but it is not one country issue. This is widespread.
Thanks for speaking up. I have never shared this but no time like the present. A staff member of a VA hospital abused me when I was a young psychology intern. It was supposed to be a "physical" but only focused on my groin. I still feel shame and embarrassment over the incident even though I realized that I was not at fault. Back then, no one would have listened, much less cared.
It sounds very similar to the OSU case with Dr. Strauss who abused 177+ male wrestlers while Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) was serving as assistant coach and more than likely knew about Strauss's behavior...
True. There is only ONE major (no pun intended) difference. Those OSU wrestlers all knew about that doctor for years and years. But they let him do it to them anyway. Some even called it a 'right of passage' into the team. They made jokes about it. These soldiers had no clue.
@@retroguy9494 Whether the victims “knew” or not is not the issue here. It’s the imposition and abuse by the perpetrator. To say a victim “knew” what he or she was getting into casts a “they should have known better” guilt upon them (it’s similar to saying that women who wear provocative clothing are “just asking to be raped.”) Folks should be able to expect that those in positions of power will be held to a higher standard and not abuse that status, but that is also a in-the-best-of-all-possible-worlds scenario. Unfortunately, we do not live in the best-of-all-possible-worlds but at the very least, those who are victimized should not be made to feel THEY are at fault. Both Strauss and Stockin should be held to account (Strauss died by suicide in 2005 and left a note, the contents of which have never been released.)

Wow. Kudos to these brave men for speaking up. It hope it's also investigated how this was able to go on for so long. Being adult men, they've surely been medically examined before and are familiar with what is routine/normal for a doctor to do and what isn't. What kept the men from reporting things earlier and how can that be fixed? Is it the same things that keep female soldiers from reporting sexual assaults? Did anyone enable this predator? I hope these men get justice.
Well, it depends on how you look at it. As a upper middle ages adult male who has been examined more times than I can count due to numerous health issues, I can say that asking the soldier to drop his pants to examine his genitals when he came in for a neck injury should send up a warning flag immediately. But making a big deal about 'taking a knee' to do a genital exam I think is the soldier being paranoid. Genital exams are part of a routine physical and at the same time, the doctor may check for a hernia, especially in active men. My doctor sits on a stool while I stand. Nothing weird about that.
@@retroguy9494 the soldier is just being paranoid? The soldier was reporting for shoulder pain and the doctor went on to inspect his penis. He has every right to be paranoid.
@@retroguy9494i agree. Doctors do all kinds of tests like the prostate. We all have to be naked in front of a doctors at some point in our lives, its akward but they are doctors this is part of the routine when need be.

@@Max-fn2et Yep. Exactly. My father had prostate cancer so they watch mine carefully. PSA blood test every year plus the prostate exam yearly. Having the doctor examine me naked has never bothered me, even when I was a teenager.
Dude is going to send gay rights back 100 years. As if there wasn't enough ammo. The military needs to change that "stuff it in your duffle bag" thing too. Sexual abuse is serious and wrecks a person's life.

Probably "I was checking the patient for testicular cancer." A buddy of mine found out he had it on his honeymoon when his new wife noticed a lump. Went to the doctor as soon as he got back to get it checked. Was diagnosed with metastatic testicular cancer and given six months to year to live. He died before his first wedding anniversary. He was only 27.
Men suffering at the hands of another MAN...yeah you right....its funny that today nopne is accusing these men of lying...nobody is saying it was consensual....i wonder why...hmmm
The military has a long standing history of sexual abuse and covering it up. America has a long history of giving rapists short sentences. So I don’t see why this will be different.
My goodness! I can’t hear in the 2nd man’s voice how scared it’s made him. It’s so sad. I hope this opens the door for men to be able to speak up about sexual abuse and it’s not just women and children that are sexually abused.
Going to go out on a limb here, but, could there be a possibility of substance abuse going on here? Some patients give in to get extra meds and if the doctor cuts them off or wants something in return,it is a plausible scenario 🤔
I don't know about a case with a Vanessa. But YES! SA in the military gets brushed under the rug and officials are given immunity at times. Which is just downright insane.
Yep. They are shaming real victims of SA. Have they been r*ped? Or had non consensual sex? No. A doctor check them naked as part of the checkup routine we all have to do sometimes when we see the doctor (prostate, testicules etc) they are weak shaking and being traumatize just for that. Like come on. They could have said no and leave. They even could have defended themselves.
I’ve had a prostate exam and other such exams both with and without a chaperone. It was better not having a chaperoned, just felt more comfortable. Less awkward.
If the allegations about this abuse are true, then the Dr. should be punished. The fact that there are so many who claim the same thing makes it more likely that the accusations are true. More likely, but not proved. But that so many believe that these incidents had such a huge negative effect on their psychological well being makes me think that they are trying to seek some benefit from the disclosure. That doesn't mean that they aren't telling the truth, but it seems to me that the experiences they went through wouldn't be considered so traumatic by most male adults. There are degrees of abuse. What is described here is definitely wrong, and should be punished, but to equate it to rape is illogical. Actual rape is vastly worse. The punishment should fit the (proven) crime.
This is what women go through all the time. I was going to join the military, had to get a physical but the so called doctor told me he needed to do a pelvic exam. Disgusting. I just wonder how many other women that old guy did that to.
When I was stationed on an army base overseas as a DoD civilian, I went to the clinic for a mere blood pressure prescription renewal and the doctor ended up giving me a prostate check! After agreeing to renew my blood pressure meds, he asked me if I ever had my prostate checked to which I replied that I didn’t. He then said that it would behoove me to have it checked so I agreed with him and dropped my pants and bent over on the table! So did that doctor have nefarious intentions? Maybe so but maybe not. Nobody could prove anything from that. At least my prostate was ok!
Probably was a good doctor. Prostate cancer is more common in older men but if a younger man gets prostate cancer it is BAD and can spread very, very fast. One of my former coworkers got it at around age 40 and nearly died from it. I had a doctor check my prostate at age 19. I thought it was a bit odd but after hearing that prostate cancer is very aggressive when it strikes younger men I just realize that he was giving me a good physical and making sure everything was ok.
@trevorn9381 Agree. I think he was an OK doctor. I just recently had a very dear friend of mine of 51 years die of prostrate cancer. He was only 58. I was with him in the hospital emergency ward (I took him there cause he was urinating blood) when the tests they performed on him indicated cancer. He was dead in less than 2 years. The doctor said he probably had prostate cancer for many years. That's why yearly blood chemistries are important. Had he gotten a simple PSA test 10 years earlier, they might have caught it and knocked it out.
Not to get deep here, but the culture of military, leaves open opportunity for people to become victims of sexual assault. Basic training breaks down ones awareness of skepticism among their peers. The open bathrooms and showers makes people so comfortable with being naked and exposed around each other that once they reach a military doctor, they wouldn’t exactly question being asked to “drop trou”. The whole structure of how things are handled in the military needs to change.
Sometimes all it takes is one person brave enough to step forward, and then others who’ve been similarly affected will step up as well. Unfortunately, American society has taught men that admitting to being sexually abused is a sign of weakness and therefore something shameful that should be hidden at all costs (even the costs to themselves). This is one of the main reasons why serial sexual abusers like priests and other male authority figures were able to get away with stuff like this for so long.
Bravo to the men that came forward. What makes there experience worse are all those that want to belittle, shame and victim accusing for what was obviously inappropriate acts. If you think the ridicule that these men face is bad, what do you think the men face trying to report being sexually assaulted?
@@benjaminperez1149 How can I have empathy or lack thereof when I can't even figure out what you were trying to say? You said 'my son's doctor asked him to drop his trousers although he isn't there for that.' What patient makes an appointment with a doctor to drop his trousers? Was your son there for a physical? If so, it's part of the exam. Did he have a specific ailment that might have required the doctor to examine that region? A few years back, I went to the ER for horrible pain in my right flank. Sometimes it radiated down. Even though the pain was mostly in my flank, the doctor told ME to drop my pants and she examined that region as well as the flank area. It turned out to be a kidney stone that was stuck and I needed surgery. But I can see WHY the needed to examine other areas as well. To rule out other things. Which is why I said your comment made no sense.

Way to tank your career. Even if he was a complete narcissist who didn't care about his patients - and it seems that he didn't - you'd think he at least cared about himself. As a physician myself, I can't begin to imagine doing something so disgraceful - but again, even if he cared only for himself, how could he gamble all the time & money he spent building a respectable career on something where he was bound to get caught? A lot of predators genuinely believe their victims are willing to be sexually engaged with. It's an almost universal thing in court cases to hear a defendant saying something to the extent, "Her clothes were too revealing or she smiled too inviting. She wanted me to do it." Also, narcissism can be a factor contributing to this delusion.
He needs to be dealt with to the fullest extent the law will provide for. And also there needs to be a wider investigation because there's no way this behavior is new to him. I'd bet my last dollar that he's been doing this for years.

I don't know cuz it's a standard practice on a physical when anytime you got shoulder or back pain or neck pain or anything they're going to check to make sure you're not herniated down there this is why a lot of these doctors don't want to do these physicals down there no more because people are too soft to make up bogus bull crap and that's why these guys walk around with testicular cancer or something because they don't get their nuts checked because they're too soft an embarrassed

Just want to point out that US military committed worse sexual abuse to war prisoners around the world with just a slap in the wrist when caught. With that said, any sexual abuse is wrong. I hope these victims can find healing and peace.
Same obviously applies to all militaries throughout history and always will.
@@HMFan2010exactly. The responsibility is always on the party abusing their power to victimize others. If a team knows they have to be molested to secure their career as a college athlete then that SHOWS how dysfunctional and broken the system has become in favor of the abuser.

@@AntonioPeralesdelHierro Yes, the same reason why he never wears a suit jacket: he thinks “showing off his physique” will bring all the boys to the yard...

Do they? How many of them are lies though? A lot of them! I suggest something is wrong with this story!
I needed a good laugh after all these super serious comments. Thank you for sharing your story. 🙂

Courageous to speak up. 🏅
All the sudden all these men come out of the wood work and say this. Not one said anything before or during he time it happened ? Sounds fishy.
