I should have mentioned that you can use any type of Trainer cards you don't have to specifically use the ones I showed in the video. Also, experiment with different deck builds by playing with friends and family to see what works and what doesn't. That is the fun in building your own deck. Hope you all enjoyed! 😃
Pro tip: if you use 1 type, maybe also add some normal types. You are able to attach any energy to normal types, energy likely being your chosen type. This gives you a wider range of cards, that can use the same energies. (Plus, if you find a Pokemon of another type that only needs colorless/any energy or the type your using for its attack, consider adding that Pokemon into your deck as well.)
But why colorless type specifically? I guess you're thinking of Squawkabilly ex as a draw engine (not an attacker) and/or Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex (or Radiant Charizard) as a secondary attacker. Also, do you play Regidrago VStar and if so what dragon type companion do you think you'll include for Regidrago VStar? Alolan Exeggcutor ex SSP is seen in play for Toronto Regionals few days ago.
Five minutes in and I’m already convinced this is the best beginners guide to Pokémon deck building. I’m trying to get a couple simple decks built for my daughter who’s just starting out. I suppose it’s not so incredible how similar the process is to MTG. Anyway, thanks a ton.
The only difference IMO would be too switch step 2 and 3. When I play mtg arena i would pick creature cards first, then pick enchantments, instants, sorcery, auras, and artifacts that best support my creatures. Like if i choose bloodthirsty aerialist, which gains plus 1/1when you gain life, I would use a card that gives it life link like shadow spear or an enchantment aura.
I used to build decks and play at home, I always wondered. If I have trainers from different sets, can I use them in the same deck if they both do the same thing? Like instead of 4 Hops you use 2 Hops and 2 Haus (sun and moon)? But obviously you can’t use 4 Hops and 4 Haus since they fill the same role and Draw 3 supporters.

Oh man in really studying pokemon with this video but only 2 questions can you play any type of energy on your deck? and also play any pokemon of any type? Because I have a normal and fire water electric and also rock so I'm a bit confused
Generally you only should put up to two pokemon types in your deck. Similarly only 2 energy types. However its easier to make a deck with 1 energy and 1 pokemon type since a lot of pokemon attacks require specific energy. However normal type pokemon can use energy of any type so they can be used in any deck. Hope this helps!😁
Can you go over 60 if you are just playing casually or is that an actual rule even outside of tournament play? Thank you. Very clear and easy to follow.
If you're playing casually with friends and family you can have over or under 60 cards. The 60 cards is a just a suggestion to make your deck balanced so you don't draw too many of one particular card. For example, you could have too many pokemon in your hand and not enough energy to attack. However, if you play others at a card shop (tournament or casual) everyone will use a 60 card deck.

Thanks. I made a deck with my 5year oldson, we ended up around where you suggested in terms of numbers of the different cards. But, I found it more intuitive to let him pick a pokemon (mew) in the beginning and then I let that be the type we used. We then filled out the pokemons of the deck. When we found items and supporters, but some of the trainer cards we would not have picked if he had different pokemon. Lastly we found energy 18 energy and filled out the deck.
Again, thanks for a good video.
