Tim Curry has been in a wheelchair since 2012 and he still sings and does voice acting. Much respect. That man scared me as a kid more than any other actor
In a wheelchair? Is he paralyzed?
Really? Poor guy
Waa-ha! Wa-ha! Wa-ha! ~Tim Curry (as Pennywise)
he had a significant stroke.
And yet, when talking to him, it’s like talking to a kindly grandparent. And I should know. He was a lot of fun to video chat with.

Tyler Rakstis your opinion. I think the BIG LIPPED ALLIGATOR MOMENT meme is really funny.
Give this movie some credit, Tim Curry's singing was great.
TheMilitantHorse yeah just watch ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ for even more proof

TheMilitantHorse OH YES!!!
As was Ton Loc's. To be honest "Welcome to the food chain" was the greatest line of the 90's. Not a bad movie, good animation, good on dope.

I just realized that the two annoying birds that ask Crysta for the password are cassowaries. You know......the most dangerous birds in the world.
Shut up .
Birds with an enlarged claw on each of their inner toes, which they use to shank threats.
And are native to Australia
And birds that Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter doesn’t fuck with

So, remember kids. If we pollute and cut down the rain-forest, it will spawn a singing cloud with the voice of Tim Curry, taking over a massive logging machine.

14:26 "Oh yeah, because every kid would understand a John Wayne reference."
Right, because when Robin Williams was the Genie, I totally understood the Peter Lorre, Rodney Dangerfield and Jack Nicholson impressions.
Don't forget Arsenio Hall and Ed Sullivan.
Yeah...sometimes i think the Critic thinks children are a little too stupid..
I saw this as a kid and totally got the John Wayne impression. I love westerns!

Genie wasn't just funny because we knew the references though the jokes themselves were just funny on their own.
Ferngully may be sucky, but toxic love is a pretty sexy song.
The whole movie seems oddly sexualised.
@@somerandolad Honestly, As a kid, when I first saw Crysta, I thought she was "cute." That would be the only reason to watch this movie.

@@loganweaver8251 Do you mean that horror movie directed by the guy who made the new Aquaman movie? I've seen bits and pieces of it online, but not the whole thing.
But if you want a REALLY TERRIBLE film with an environmental message, watch Gamera vs. Zigra (1971). It's not just bad, it's PAINFULLY bad. I recommend the MST3K version if you wish to survive it.
They usually are, but they are not inherently. If you just looked at modern horror, you'd say it's a shitty genre. But then you're missing things like psycho, the exorcist, insidious ect. Just because most are, doesn't mean that all are.
Ironically, Ferngully has actually aged quite well when you think about it and you learn what’s going on with not only Australia but the Congo, Indonesia and especially the Amazon
And people including myself still enjoy it to this day. Plus that Batty rap song slaps when you listen to extended version
“Are Australia’s rainforests in any danger?” “Meh, not really.” Well, this aged well😬
Oh nooo...🤦🏻♀️ yikes
Yep.
It wasn't accurate even at the time. This was made a time they were in a lot of danger
Bushfires!!!
We thought Australia being on fire would define 2020, oh how nieve were we
While the film isn't good by most means, we can all agree that Tim Curry is the best part of this film and his villain song is kind of enjoyable
....and unbelievably sexy.
He has the best laugh for it
what do you mean kind of...
I imagine Grid from DC singing "Toxic Love" in his own, sexy voice. I need to have someone fucking animate that.
Honestly that part both cringed me and gave me chills
Man avatar ripped this movie off.
A human male who is helping a large organization to tear down a a green area becomes similar to the natives, falls in love with one of them, has competition from another native, learns the ways of the natives and finds out why nature is good, has some sort of weird sexual intercourse with the native girl in a sacred place and helps stop the large organization and a 1 dimensional villain from destroying the green land.

You right. I'm not fascinated by it since growing up but you right.
When Crysta was going through Zak's stuff, I was hoping for her to say "Your underwear says that your name is Cal-vin?".
I completely forgot that not only are Zak's co-workers played by Cheech & Chong (literally), and this may be the biggest theatrical feature to include a Raffi song in its soundtrack. I was a little let down to see that Harvey Fierstein wasn't playing the goanna lizard.
Ken Coleman And rip off Back to the Future.
Jay Barry I can live with that😃
come on, while Ferngully had its faults, it wasnt all bad. Hell i actually liked that movie with an animation that was as fluid as any other movie animated at the time, and the late Robin Williams playing a major role. I must admit that the Songs came out of nowhere, the movie as a whole did leave a valuable impression when i was a kid. Im sayin its not ALL bad.
Totally agree, it's not great, but it's harmless and fun for the kiddies.
Yeah. It's the kind of movie that you don't love, but wouldn't mind watching again
If it was just a bit less pretentious and gave actual facts/advice for how to protect the environment, it'd really be a great movie.
It's ok you were 4
zach i know you have strong opinions but id really love to also know chris and tomars opinions on this review in the next oneyplays episode
"Toxic Love" is probably the best part of the movie.
LOVED Ferngully as a child. Still love it. It felt so unique and different than any other animated movie. The darker parts were really cool. Hexes really left an impression on me as a child. Especially his musical number. Loved Batty, and seeing the rainforest from a fairy point of view. Really cool looking visuals. U guys are missing the feeling of the movie damn it.
Me too. I still will watch it every now and again.
I loved ferngully as a child too. I grew up as the child of environmentalist socialists in a conservative Christian town and got bullied a lot. To this day I get shit for being a vegan and driving a Prius and I don’t have contact with most of my extended family because of their beliefs. Yeah, logging isn’t the main cause of deforestation. I’m vegan, so I know it’s animal ag. Yeah, the message of “human bad tree good” is a little heavy handed. And the fact that the native Australian fairies look British is just not ok. But this was a story about two people cross cultures and species representing the opposing forces of nature and industrial destruction finding common understanding. The story isn’t supposed to condemn humanity and industry or idealize nature as it is. It’s about finding the common ground between and the hope of a future of coexistence. I also love the Batty Coda character and his song. I’ve seen animal testing up close and it is monstrous. The things that have been done in the name of science to humans and non humans against their will is horrific. Many of the lines in Batty’s song reference directly to real life cruel experiments done to animals, but also humans. Many of these horrible experiments continue on today. I just rewatched furngully. It has its flaws, but I still love it and I think this was an incredibly unfair ans shallow analysis.
“Is the Australian rainforest even in danger?”
“No.”
Not only is that not true now, but it wasn’t true when this video was made and it also wasn’t true when the movie was made.
Same, these ppl just suck.
@@missanthropy6174 I'm a conservative & a Christian... I also used to be a vegetarian for a long time, I feed any stray animal that I come across, I love gardening & planting trees... we are all different.. as a Christian, I believe God gave us this world & we should take care of it... what ever is taken should be replaced to keep the balance. Nature is incredible! No matter what we do, the harm will kill us before it kills the world in general & the plants will take back everything. I'm sorry your not in contact with most of your family. I was pagen for about 16 years & something in me shifted & didn't feel right anymore, but I was always understanding of others beliefs and my family respected mine, so I never lost contact... unfortunately some ppl are too stubborn & read to much into one thing & not enough on another. 🤷♀️ I hope things get better.
@@RealSimsHouse you used to be vegetarian. So you used to not eat dead animals and you decided their lives no longer mattered cuz you feed strays or something? You were a pagan for 16 years then came back to the religion and political ideology responsible for most of the war and environmental destruction for the last millennium? But nature is beautiful and should be protected… not because it deserves it on its own but because god gave you nature and your should protect it?
I was raised Mormon, but I spent the first 20 years of my life as an atheist. I just did t buy the story. It didn’t make sense, and I thought it was BS. I was bullied by my peers and even my teachers and authority figures for being openly atheist as young as 5. I spent the majority of my life outside, taking comfort in trees and animals. The first spiritual experience I ever had was at age 20 and it wasn’t Christian. I had a pagan spiritual awakening and even though I feel affirmed in that, it’s still Christians, conservatives, and just general society that mocks and ostracizes me for not killing animals. I don’t care if you feed strays. I rescue them and volunteer time at shelters and comfort them if they are too wounded to survive. Better yet I don’t eat them. I don’t care if you hope things get better for me, you can tell your employer that you’re a Christian and he can’t fire you. I can’t. I don’t care if you love nature, you contribute to the climate change that will kill us all in a way I don’t. Your words are hollow, and I’d really rather you just keep your religion to yourself and change your politics to not hurt others.

I like Tim Curry and Robin Williams, but the movie was too subtle. One thing to say.
LOOK OUT IT'S THE PLOT!
This movie. This movie was, strangely, one of the scariest experiences of my early childhood. See, when I was veeeeery little, in about '94 we got it on vhs, and my big sister _being a big sister_ told me that now, after being defeated by main heroes, the smokey villain is actually secretly living in our room, in the dark space between a wardrobe and the wall, right next to my sleeping place. I kinda believed her but understandably was a bit skeptical (as skeptical as a ~three-year-old could be), so that same night when I fell asleep, she put my foot into that crack behind our wardrobe. Can you freaking _imagine_ my reaction the next morning, waking up like this, like something tried to drag me into the darkness in the night, _gosh._ I was terrified out of my wits for weeks! So yeah, Ferngully's all about good pro-nature messages, fairy-tale magic, the good defeating the evil, and scared out of their minds babies.
R.I.P Robin Williams ♥

Here's the thing, it's a cult classic/meant to be bad film that everyone loves. He reviews things that draw people in to nostalgia, such as Good Burger or Demolition Man, RHPS is a good film that hasn't aged much, has decent songs and sets, and has an enjoyably fun cheesy atmosphere. Ferngully: The Last Rainforest officially turns 30!
This was an attempt to make kids care about nature, spread a message, and do an animated feature based on bedtime stories that Diana Young told her kids back in the ‘70s
I remember renting it a lot from price chopper on vhs
Love the animation, the music by Alan Silvesrti, the visuals are very pleasing with capturing the Australian rainforest locations, the fairies voiced by Samantha Mathis, Christian Slater, Tone Loc as the singing lizard, and Tim Curry voicing the villainous toxic entity Hexxus
Jonathan Ward as Zak is just ok, not a lot of charm or personality
The Sheena Easton song is the most memorable next to Toxic Love
Hard to believe it came out a few months before Aladdin also featuring Robin Williams
Was a moderate box office success yet faced studio difficulties plus Bill Kroyer, the project’s director, and Jim Cox, its writer, were both veterans of Disney and managed to poach several young artists under the nose of Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was the head of Disney’s animation division
Williams was also urged to not do the film but The Little Mermaid helped re-spark animation back on the big screen
Ferngully was even shown at the UN General Assembly in 1992 on Earth Day
Shows kids there's still magic in the world and enough to care for the green world of ours perhaps more blatant than preachy about the harm humans cause nature and the earth

It would have been awesome to see these two world class actors in a thriller or horror. I mean could you imagine how Insomnia would have been if it was a Tim Curry in the lead role, or if they did a 48hrs film? I know it'd be easy to see them in comedies, but given my love for suspense and the stunning amount of comedians that can pull off a edge in a subtle way; and knowing the way both men could delve into a character role. They would have killed it in a serious film together.
big lip alligator moment was born
Honestly the only thing good that came out of this film is another Tim Curry song. The films terrible but god damn does that song make environmental pollution sound like the sexiest thing in the world.
It's Tim Curry. He could even sexualize eating cornflakes and we would love it.
So... Tim Curry and cornflakes, kinda like Light Yagami and potato chips. But for sexiness instead of being dramatic.
I'll take a bowl of Corn Flakes... AND EAT THEM!!
I keep listening to that song over and over after I found it on UA-cam.
Now picture Grid (DC character) singing that in his Six Flags voice. I NEED that to happen.
4:20 Calling a bat, 'Batty', wouldn't that be like calling a man, 'Manny'?
Some men are literally called ‘Manny’
I love the clips of Nostalgia Chick in these old videos, there’s like cryptic sightings.
Tim Curry's "toxic love" almost made the movie worth watching.
Almost.
I don't know whose voice is sexier: Tim Curry or Simon Prebble.
@@YuukiTakemoto1996 didn't Simon Prebble voice the computer in Courage the Cowardly Dog?
R.I.P Robin Williams :(
:(
Deadpool Gamez it will never be the same without him :(
He will be missed
He died on my birthday...
***** :(
Man, I remember watching about half of this movie in elementary school on a Friday before my mom pulled me out early for a doctors appointment. Good times I think.
Nostalgia Chick is so cute.
"Yeah, she is cute," Chris agrees. "But I dunno if this movie is any good."
"...there's nothing more preachy than an environmental film, is there?"
Oh, how naive we all were in the days before Kirk Cameron started making Christmas movies.
6:47 *_HU-MANN!_*
[Invader Zim intensifies]
Toxic Love is one of the best villain songs ever!
Oh I love Old nostalgia critic videos so much
It goes to show, that when you voice an animated fruit bat with an antenna sticking out of its head and you pull it off like a boss despite having NOTHING to work with, no one will notice your genius until you're dead. RIP Robin WIlliams.
I only started watching Nostalgia Critic a few months ago and now I find theres a Nostaliga Chick?! Already in love
Anyone else notice NC changing the youtube thumbnails?
YES
"...and now you're pregnant"
Holy shit, coming back years later and remembering Star Trek Enterprise, this was ahead of it"s time!
lol the first minute is like freaking Mortal Critic Kombat
I just love the faces those two make when the lizard sings.
Lindsay in that sweater is working for me...
8:00 - A Big Lipped Alligator Moment!
Tim curry. Dying in nearly all his roles since 1975.
i only recently came across this. novelization material, so i'm unsure if this was in the actual screenplay at any point.
but in clue, there was an ending in which his character, wadsworth, makes a break for a police car and has an... unfortunate meeting with the two dogs from the start of the film. rather safe to say he got rekt, which would be quite the contrast for a comedy.
The only one I know that he doesn't is Home Alone 2. He just gets slapped and gets embarrassed. Hard to imagine any other non-death role he's been in
@@gianinabadami5341 The Worst Witch as well. He just shows up, sings, and Tim Curries it up. Also his tv roles, he fares pretty well in those.
S.I.R. didn't die
@@YuukiTakemoto1996 But he never shows up again.
I thought it was going to turn into a porno at the beginning
+Jakobi Slade but he ain't sexy
+Ed Knight Well, it becomes one at 13:00
***** An actual bisexual
+Ed Knight Well let's look at the check list here.
- Man and a woman finger wagging each other cause they've been naughty to each other. *Check!*
- One of the two parties challenges the other to do something risky. *Check!*
- You could argue semantics here, but the girl comes to the man *Check!*
- They do a lot of rough housing and name calling *Check!*
Sounds like a porno to me.
+Kurt Adams O SHUTUP.. you would love it... WE ALL WOULD LOVE IT!
Say anything you want, but "Toxic Love" is amazing
Fun Fact: Rapper Tone Loc did his share of voice acting. For example, he voiced Peewee from Bebe's Kids, the first half of the titular duo from C Bear and Jamal, and the giant from the Jack and the Beanstalk episode from HBO's Happily Ever After. Also, he voiced a fish in a commercial.
i miss the nostalgia chick, i really do :-/

+Richard “Firebug” Merrick Actually that's not her latest one. She had one on King Kong more recently
Her new channel is Lyndsay Ellis . That's where she posts all her videos. She did videos on 9/11, the wicked witch of the west, the grim reaper, etc.
tal miz I don't
Me too (about missing her)
I miss the gold old days with Nostalgia Chick.
Back in the 2000s when equality existed and men and women could fight each other as equals
It’s good to see that in 7 years the only thing that has changed about this channel is the video’s pixel count.
