Yea I’d love for them to do an MLD episode in paper, trying to build and MLD deck and picked klothys as the commander and happy to see someone else thought similarly (sadly tomer just played enchantress)
I have always been interested in an anti-theme deck, kind of like Richard's Green spellmage control deck. Artifact Creatures where there is no supporting non-creature artifacts and no non-artifact creatures. Aura's but only non-creature enchanting auras. Lifegain, but with no creatures. Go wide blue, etc. Taking an archetype and stripping away what makes it broken.
That was a great, seeing everyone playing mass LD. I was surprised to see Ruination on Crim's 3-color deck, I would expect the 2-color ones that could play more basics to do it. There is another possible card to use with a high number of basics win From the ashes. Too bad there was no blue mana to play sunder or acid rain with Yavimaya in this episode. Now we need a follow up in which one of you play Zo-zu
I think sett punted by saccing the other desert for exile. If he just recurred the creature making one he'd have blockers for days and would probably win
Honest question: @1:08:30 Is there a reason why Seth keeps choosing to make one of his trolls unblockable and not his Commander? I see that the trolls have a bit more strength but after establishing that Tomer can minigate the damage through life gain, I would think the Commander damage would be a better out/ clock.
@@MTGGoldfish Ahh okay, appreciate the clarification. After the match I was intrigued by the desert walk ability and wondered if there were cheeky ways to "gift" opponents deserts but after digging abit it seem that it's mostly a flavor ability and not very viable as an alternative win condition.
My original EDH playgroup had a couple of decks kicking around playing Cataclysm & some MLD. I was a little confused at first because I'd seen the online discourse about MLD being toxic, but it rarely seemed like an issue. In actual play, it was just another wincon. I think part of it was that we were mostly primarily Modern players & so we didn't have some of the same hyper-casual hangups that people online often have. We were expecting people to actually try to win the game, and to play the disruption to prevent other people in the pod from winning.
@WarpsmithAdam I think the problem with MLD in commander is mostly that the optimal way to play it is to punish the player who got really far ahead. But it often just ends up really hurting the people who may have fallen a bit behind. Like if it's turn 6 and one player has ramped out into like 10 lands, and you're in second place with like 8 lands and you Armageddon well anyone who has been missing land drops probably has a worse board state and now has no mana to catch up (it's even worse if you cataclysm). So the game for them seems like a slog fest where they don't get to play magic.
@@T_Peazy oh yeah, absolutely can it lead to miserable games, but usually in a situation like that, the game was slowed down by a few turns, but those turns went faster, so it evened out. Partly it's that you guys are good players and can think beyond your game plan getting disrupted, instead of just not wanting to play any more. And partly, yeah, it's that you're all doing it by agreement and you've built decks to both do the salty things, and try to mitigate it to some degree.
