- Blood Moon is finally on MTG Arena, which means its time to hand out some life lessons to Arena zoomers about what it's like to not be able to play Magic because all of your non-basic lands are Mountains!
Today's video is brought to you by Card Kingdom. You can pick up some MTG cards (and help support the show) at www.cardkingdo...

I hope one day you can teach these zoomers about Panglacial Wurm
But what to teach them!?
I can see it now. Instant ban in arena.
Nooo pls no
Easily one of the most epic against the odds plays against Ugin the spirit Dragon
Yes please, please teach me. I'm so confused.
about the alchemy blood artist, I believe it's because they changed the wording from "target player loses 1 and you gain 1" to "target opponent". they probably changed it so that you dont have to click a target every time it triggers to save time (because in arena youll always only have 1 target)
probably a good change overall but I admit I miss making myself hexproof and watching as the opponent's Blood Artist is forced to target them
I was going to say the same thing, but add that the difference is ironically relevant to this match. [Oops, beaten to that point, too.]
You don't need to change the card text for that. There are many effects and triggers that Arena applies automatically when there's only one valid target.
@@Paulxl But that's the issue - non alchemized Blood Artist has two targets. Sure, the other target (yourself) is usually not great, unless you have some synergy from losing life and/or don't want to your opponent to benefit from some effect (which I dont think is a thing in standard but historic could possibly have some madness) - so you would have to keep asking "who do you target" if it wasn't alchemized. Wish you could set defaults like you can in MTGO upon an effect triggering
@@LtLukoziuz I still don't see the need for the change.
Teaching arena zoomers is without a doubt my favorite mtg series
The "Teaching Arena Zoomers" series has become one of my favorites. :)
I can just hear Tomer telling everyone to run more basics
Really admire the deckbuilding on this. I personally couldn't tutor enough to scratch the itch, but Rakdos sac with Lagomos as commander is that last bit bit of consistency I needed
“Don’t blame me if I blood moon you” 😂😂😂
Blood artist is alchemized on MTGA.
OG in paper Blood artist can target any player , while Arena's bloodartist can only target opponents
Even funnier because the Leyline of Combustion actually makes that difference seriously matter
@@valorcarmichael9078
It also stopped a couple of fringe case uses for Blood artist where if you're opponent has hexproof due to a leyline of sanctity, you would be able to still target yourself and lose a life, gain a life, still triggering all "life gain" procs. So it does make the card....
Easier to manage in infinite combos, as targeting becomes automatic.
but overall a touch weaker since the card loses a few fringe case uses
I just liked the deck and how it played. The bloodmooning felt more like a situational cherry on top in this one, which is great.
Seth around 52:45 saying: "Blood Moon."
I imagine the rest of the intro simply got cut, but it's hilarious to me.
Urbrask's forge would be a decent addition.
Good call!
That’s exactly what I was thinking! Almost like another of his commander but with a stringer effect and unfortunately no tutor.
In my experience h/brawl is way closer to a 1v1 format in sweatiness. Not having the other 2 players takes out the self balancing dynamic of archenemy.
BEST opening to a video "because wizards is afraid of offending delicate sensibilities of historic players" . Seth, you are the Legacy player and we love you!
I've always said Historic is a format for whiny babies that hate interaction and them instabanning blood moon in it proves it
@justvibing4796 What kind of retard puts Blood Moon in a control deck?
@justvibing4796 Congratulations, you basically proved his point.
“Budget players, ruin our day” best line😂
36:30 the reason the blood artist has an alchemy symbol is that on arena it says target opponent while in paper it’s target player, it’s just a quality of life thing to prevent a bunch of clicks
Blood moon has been one of my favorite cards since it was printed. I'm so glad you've been championing it over the years. Normalize old school punishing cards!
Wow, did you play Magic before Blood Moon?
@ben_clifford when I first started I was 11. I was obviously not very good. My first deck's wincon was Seasinger. Look that card up for a good laugh.
Edit: I also ran ankh of Mishra so I've always been a jerk.
Agreed, same with that misstep card, punishes people trying to make there mana value too low
As someone learning Dark Depths Blood Moon keeps me up at night.
@@thorinhannahs4614I play RUG Delver and 8-cast so I have a love hate relationship with blood moon. Half of me agrees with you and half is the sicko meme watching the first half
That Eaten Alive reminds me of one of the things I hate about Arena - people conceding to a single piece of interaction. Because there’s no real cost to conceding, people give up SO FAST. It’s just not as much fun if they give up in 30 seconds…
I don't understand what you're complaining about. take the free Ws. you want competition, then go play a ranked format.
Ez win ez coins
@@jrightlybut ranked tries too hard and sticks around too long. They would like the mythical Goldilocks que
Well, it isn't terribly fun having your back broken by said interaction and *hoping* to top deck something that *might* keep you in the game.
If the games over, the games over.
3:43 Who is Totenzan? Must be a friend of Sir Cootious Route.
24:50 "Sometimes they naturally are prepared for it" As a borderline zoomer, having grown up with the looming threat of climate change rendering our lands useless, I can say that in general we are indeed naturally well prepared for this.
57:26 I felt the pain in his voice when Seth shouted "WAIT!" because of that Tasha effect. 😂 So glad he pulled out the win against those alchemy cards!
“Who reads alchemy cards anyway”
Like? Those are the most important ones to read because they have fine print
“A command tower, probably better known as a mountain”. 😂 Love you man
Teaching arena zoomers is definitely my favorite series.
I mostly play Explorer where I play Azorius control and cast Settle the Wreckage in practically every game I play, and the frequency with which I Settle away a Rakdos' player's entire board and watch them grab a single Swamp in response is hilariously high. I don't play Historic, but I get the sense that it's more or less the same story there. people might not like the idea of having to deal with Blood Moon in Historic, and I'm sure there'd be decks that would become nearly unplayable with it, but it should've been at least given a chance.
36:15 the reason the Blood Artist has the Alchemy thing is because the original says "target player" and this alchemy version says "target opponent"
More Historic Brawl content! It's the most fun mode on Arena. Also Grave Pact is one of my favorite Magic cards. I was so happy to see that card included in the Enchanting Tales so that it would come to Arena (though I would really love the 8th edition artwork for it). I've definitely been having fun teaching Arena Zoomers about Grave Pact with my Chatterfang, Teysa Karlov and Totentanz decks.
At 32:27, you should've tutored Grave Pact because the tokens would've been sacrificed on your end step because of Chandra. That would kill both their creatures.
his following statement I guess indicated he didn't want to force a scoop?
@@TheAlexdodd I don't really get that from what he said. There's no way he could've guessed his opponent would be that salty from just playing interaction. Might as well gone all the way with Grave Pact
Grave Pact is one of my favorite cards in existence! I also respect any Blood Moon deck (legacy player here) so I love this against the odds already!
Grave Pact is very cool.
Teaching Arena Zoomers has got to be my favorite gameplay series!
Finally, some love for Lagomos. The moment I saw it, I loved it. As a casual commander, he's pretty fun. I made a ping deck with him.
I love how many blood moons you played! Played so many you put it in the title!
There is no point in saving fetching for end step in any commander based format. Everyone already knows your colors.
Blood moon is such a good card to punish someone who wants to get the best mana possible. Love the card
It’s honestly comically bad design. Requires fetches to be even remotely unbannable in historic.
The best mana possible involves running basics for situations exactly like this.
@@KingOfDoma how many basics can you run in the average 3 color 60 card deck. Depends a bit on the deck, but in a format without fetches, it’s about 0-6. More than that and you will lose a substantial number of games into all decks because of bad mana. This will hurt your winrate more than just saying screw bloodmoon we just auto lose those. We want to not have cards in the format that auto beat decks.
God forbid 3+ color decks might have a downside or weakness.
@@theodoreabshire933 weakness is fine. Blood moon is not a weakness, it’s often an auto loss for fair strategies that just happen to be playing 2 non-red colors. Not even three colors, just two non red colors is enough to be utterly blown out in a fetchless format like Historic or HBrawl. See the last game Seth plays in the set where blood moon is instrumental to his win against a Tasha player, a two color deck.
the blood artist says its an arena card because they changed it to say target opponent instead of target player, so that the client can resolve the trigger without the player having to choose targets
41:20 Seth, you do realize you had a costly plunder in your hand right? You can wishclaw, hold priority and sac it to costly plunder and both tutor and draw two cards without giving anything to your opponent.
That Tasha is an Alchemy only card. I know it is confusing because it has the exact same art as the other Tasha in paper, but it is a completely different card.
Cheers for Seth to finally pronounce song of Totentanz in an acceptable way in 26:00 🎉
I think this deck is simply tre-MOON-dous!
I love how you can hear Seth’s dog straight chillin in the background lol
This makes me want to build some Scorpion God/Ayara's Oathsworn combat tutor shenanigans
Such great content! Thanks a million, Seth!
grave pact has been so fun in my chatterfang historic brawl deck. I do feel bad about not being able to go up against solely competitive players though. Wish there was an option for different strengthed decks but enforcing it would suck.
Am I hearing Bear the entire time? Or did i imagine it?
I heard him too
Love how he finally gets it to work around 20:00 and passes to opponent, who sits there, i have to assume absolutely dumbfounded, for no less than six seconds
They should put Blim on Arena. Blood Moon is symmetrical so it being donated doesn't matter!
I have been beating the shit out of historic with that fast red shrapnel blast + implements of combustion deck you put up a little while back. I finally earned all the uncommon wild cards I needed.
That Blood Moon answered prayer was delicious!
-Seth, 2023
Good ol' Arena, ever since crafting a set of Blood Moons, all my matchups are against mono colour basic land decks, good job MTGA 👍 working as intended
Now I wanna make an Elas Il-Kor historic brawl deck around grave pact and other such silliness.
Would be neat if you added time codes for each match!
I usually do it for best if three but not best of one but maybe I should start doing it for brawl too
@MTGGoldfish. If i read it correctly in case of Ayara, it clearly states "exactly for counters". I dont believe that 1st part matters at all in this case, it does help but it does not matter. I believe the 2nd part will trigger Always when change state changes from any other counter count to exactly four, either from less or more, by 1 or by any other counter addition that will put it EXACTLY on 4 counters. Something to try :D
Lived the dream of drafting grave pact + goblin bombardment in WOE recently, it was amazing.
God, Seth, you are such a joy. Never change you lovable scamp, you.
These decks are evil ( i.e. that LD niv deck you put together) and I'm here for it.
They need to unban blood moon so bad
Historic manabases are so greedy.
I miss my old Basic Eon Twist deck. Back to Basics, Eon Hub, and Reality Twist. "You better be playing basics in these specific colors, buddy." Good times, good times.
Love bloodmoon. Play it in Chandra land destruction. Its just hillarious against the 5 color decks.
one card that comes to mind for this deck is Urabrask's Forge, another token generator that works well with gravepact and the commander
"Blood Myun" can't stop hearing it when you say it
Yeah the Baldur's Gate cards are completely different (but have the same art) on Arena so I would be ambushed by Tasha because it's a completely different card than the one that was printed.
Free blood moon and spreading seas in historic
"Noooo you can't just make an entire commander deck just to play Blood Moon"
"Hehe Blood Moon go brrrr"
That Aragorn match was beautiful
maybe just me little arena zoomer here, but wouldn't Urubrask's Forge another good card for this?
"We interacted" -- this has been my entire experience playing Historic Brawl. opponent does nothing for 2-3 turns, hard casts their commander, single removal spell, scoop
thank you for teaching the good lessons
Teaching Arena Zoomers about [...] is my favorite thing on UA-cam.
I have virtualy the same deck but much more wipe board and mithril coil, you can also tutor the coil to indestructible lagomos and wipe like there is no tomorrow.
Tried to add blood moon to a deck in historic brawl, but saw the art and it looks exactly like the banned red and didn't add it :(. Glad to know its playable
During the first game, I thought Seth was having a weird breathing issue. Turns out it was just Bear.
Thinking about putting Grave Pact in my Chatterfang deck now.
Fyi It’s an alchemy blood artist because it says target opponent making the trigger go faster^^ the original is target player^^
Love that Amigo the Devil shirt!
Real Blood Artist says "target player". Arena Blood Artist says "target opponent" to remove clicks. Tiny diference, but technicaly a change.
I won a modern tournament once by tutoring for tutors, I headgamed my opponents so hard they conceded
Does someone here have any idea/good explanation as to why Ayara's Oathsworn specifies "exactly four +1/+1 counters" in the 2nd part of the ability, rather than just "four or more"? Since the 2nd part is reliant on the first one and that first ability won't trigger if there are 4 or more counters on the card already, this seems like it mostly just accidentally screws over effects like hardened scales that make other effects place multiple +1/+1 counters at once (those could then skip from 3 to 5, missing the "exactly four counters" window).
Is there some interaction that I'm missing, that necessitates "exactly four" over "four or more" since it would otherwise break something? Because I don't think that kind of specification is generally common in magic if it doesn't really make a difference.
Seth playing witchs oven then not using it to turn the elementals into food is some classic punting
I wish other people played Brawl to have fun. Sometimes I just close Arena after playing against the 5th Rusko deck in a row (literally just counterspells and removal).
Game 1: Simic player scoops the instant you interact with their snowball-y commander. Sounds about right.
It looks like you have about 7ish creatures in your deck with ETB abilities. What do you think about a Panharmonicon? I'd normally say that's enough to support a one-of in an EDH deck - and then you have Cauldron Familiar triggering every turn...
Each time I see Seth playing with an Alchemy card... my respects for him decreace greatly. I still enjoy his "teaching arena zoomers" section though.
On the topic of cracking a fetch at socerery speed, I lost a game cuz my fabled passage was exiled under Cemetery Gatekeeper in explorer on Turn 2. It wouldn't have been there as early if I had waited.
Seth woke up and chose violence
"Busted cards like Spreading Seas."
"Barba-dur" lmao xD 50:59
I never understood why bood moon dose what it dose. I mean, just because a land is a mountain does not mean it cannot produce other types of mana. There are literally two color land that say they are of the mountain type, for example, Alpine Meadow is Snow Land - Mountain Plains and Canyon Slough is Land - Swamp Mountain.
I need you to teach them about Brain in a Jar. Not sure if it's even able to be played. But would be amazing
I love this card so much.
teaching arena boomers how to pronounce Totentanz: toe-ten-tanz (pronounce the a in tanz basically like you would do in the word danse)
great video! :D
I shouldn't be allowed to teach anyone how to pronounce anything
blood moon has made playing big red decks like 100% more fun
52:22 Yes, Historic Brawl is the best format on Arena. Coincidentally, it's the closest thing we have to Commander. Oh wait, that's probably not coincidence. 😂
My entire Arena experience has been on mobile, and it doesn't recover from little things like switching wifi/cell data without killing the app. Unless you're pretty quick to do it, it's super easy to time out. Miserable way to play when it happens often.
Thank you WotC for saving us from our worst fear… SPREADING SEAS 😫
Urabrask's Forge could hardly ask for a better home and its not in the list. Was it considered or is one of my favorite artifacts from All Will Be One really that bad?
This series is making me painfuly aware that MTG Arena doesn't give enough of wild cards. I'm building budget decks and im still always short. I see all the cool decks I can play on Arena but i cant get them.
Personally I think playing every counter spell is valid and very cool
No
i wish there was one dime sized spot in a hard-to-reach part of your body that never stops itching.
the alchemy tasha is like one of the few alchemy cards I wish was in paper
Heart of the cards for the blood moon on command
Totentanz is pronounced as -
TOE (just the beginning with the first vocal sound and open mouth while leaving out the ouuu closing)
ten like the English number pronounced like a Brit with a sharper t,
TUAntz (ua like in guard)
great video!!
