Crafting the Sawblades with your excess mana was a possibility a couple times in this video, you get a good vehicle that you can turn into a creature by tapping 2 artifacts which you have a ton anyways.
I know, I just about jumped out of my bed as the trigger was LITERALLY ON THE STACK, and he threw in the towel before even considering the cards he put in his deck. Unless I mis understand and flipped smithy enters tapped?
@@spencerstanley4759 You both are correct, if Seth taps the 2 creatures and the 3 other artifacts that don't produce mana then the smithy will be untapped, giving the 5th mana source
He coulso use the territory to claim his synthezizer back - oppo stole sole the next one and no construct + he gets another one I mean, he won, but it was too late for 1 land destruction anyway and hed get his value back But he missplays alot because hes too focused on the deck goal instead of his rest of the deck or battlefield... Specially with land destruction Like when he played "all land destruction" He had a full hand of land destruction, threw it all away to find an answer for creatures, burns all his mana - his oppo had a creature turning all creatures into lands..... He had so many boardwipes in hand! But thats why we love him❤❤❤️
16:57 that was the exact topdeck you needed, if you would've tapped five artifacts the smithy would become a land and you'd have exactly five man to cast the glyphbridge
fun fact: you can exile multiple cards to Fabrication Foundry, so at 29.30 or so, Seth a) could have surveiled to see if he could mill something better to recur. b) could have gotten back the net by exiling the sawblade AND the extruder
@29:17 you can sac 1 OR MORE artifacts to the fabrication foundry! So you could have gotten back braided net there. (Not that it was a great spot either way. Love the video
For the lilah deck pioneer has access to a lot of the split cards, and even just looking at ones that can be cast using only blue and red mana it gives so many options. a stifle effect for 2, that can then be used to copy one of your creatures (repudiate/replicate), forced attacks/blocks that turn into a pump spell for your turn (hustle/bustle), even a pump/removal spell that can also remove lands and do some burn (bedeck/bedazzle). I'm not sure if it is modern playable, but it could do some weird stuff in pioneer and really mess people up
29:00 you choose both creatures. As in, any power 2 or less creature can be chosen by you. As long as Caustic Bronco is alive you can choose it and kill the Bloodletter. Gives you another turn in which you can do what you ended up doing 1 turn early: Saccing the artifact to get back the sawblade to kill bronco. Bronco couldn't kill you with its attack bc it has saddle 3 and Bloodletter only has 2 power. After that the enemy's board is clear and you can flip your remaining net to draw cards and start with land destruction.
Would Engima Jewel work well in this? It doesn't help to cast artifacts, but it adds the two to activate artifacts, making the boombox faster but the Forge slower... Also, could have declined the boseiju land search to not shuffle the deck at 49:00, yet Seth clicked 'accept' :D
I also think enigma jewel would be a good consideration. So would Oaken Siren and moonsnare prototype, for ramp purposes. You could replace the Fabrication Foundry with Goblin Scrapwelder (which doesn't exile) to complete to boombox loops and cut white completely, also. I think Tameshi, Reality Architect is a fine switch for Chimil in any instance, as Temeshi allows you to loop Territory forges from the battlefield. If not cutting white, removing some of the sawblades and glyphbridges to add the ramp creatures could be a good pre-sideboard swap. Cutting Chimil makes sense as well, because Chimil isn't technically on-plan and only serves as a bit of a win-more. The opens 3-5 slots for a few copies of the preferred ramp spell. If cutting white, the artifact density would definitely drop, and you would also lose the boardwipe. You could replace it with Temporal Firestorm, or Burn Down the House, which also hit planeswalkers. You would also lose Thousand Moon Smithy, which honestly wasn't as effective as the Simulacrum anyhow, but you could add copy effects (with Saheeli, the Sun's Brilliance, Hulking Metamorph, or Three Steps Ahead) which are more flexible. tl;dr, Jeskai, replace Chimil w Tameshi, & trim sawblades for ramp. Izzet, Use scrapwelder & copy effects to clean manabase & add flexibility.
I wonder how good 'Scene of the Crime' would be in this deck. Its an artifact land that can sac itself for two generic to draw a card and it doesn't need to tap to sac itself.
33:37 I’ve been having a lot of fun pairing Step Between Worlds with Proft’s Eidetic Memory and Duelist of the Mind. That can just one-shot people if you get all the pieces together
31:09 100% should have left that fabrication foundry on top, the guaranteed mana rock may be slower but it's better than taking the risk of being stuck at 3 even longer
25:45 In terms of "bad Dark Confidants" that actually had impact, Glintsleeve Siphoner saw some play in standard. At least enough I think it merits some mention.
53:23 I think Flotsam // Jetsam doesn’t see more play in commander because it has a 3 color commander identity as a minimum. Whereas if it was just 2 color or 1, it would see more play.
I started playing a similar land destruction deck a few days ago (might try this one). I genuinely think Territory Forge might be my new favorite card. I LOVE me some land destruction!
I can only imagine he was worried about a potential Turn 3 4/4 flample ending the game too quickly, because it would seem to be the obvious first card on the decklist. It can snipe the non-basic lands so your unconditional land destruction cars can mop up the rest.
Did you consider Enigma Jewel for this list? Helps ramp to Boom Box activations with a top end of double boom box activations when crafted EDIT: yeah seeing that half the things in this deck care about activating abilities, Enigma Jewel seems like an obvious include.
Awesome! I posted my own mono blue build for Boom Box and Esoteric Duplicator is a great card with Omen Hawker and The Enigma Jewel and with those you can loop Candy Trails for repeated scrys/life/draw, or Tinker's Tote for gnomes/life, and Mnemonic Sphere for cheap card draws. In Explorer it even makes Guild Globe it's own draw engine. It's a really cool card.
34:29 Oh that's neat, the idea is to have Jin on the battlefield and then cast the whele for free, having seven in to meet the activtion requirement and having all your mana untapped to pay for it. Cool.
Q: why is it referred to as a "flawless victory" when the opponent loses with having no lands on the battlefield? In my head I hear the Mortal Kombat "Flawless Victory" which is when you defeat the opponent without taking any damage, which frequently does not happen in Seth's LB games in general.
Lazy answer: Different meanings for different games. But I'd say the difficulty of killing an opponent in magic with no permanents is higher than killing someone without taking damage.
Because that's how the jargon evolved... It's not that hard to win without taking damage if your opponent is running control with a risky big win con. But to kill everything, including lands, is just as tough as winning a beat-em-up without taking damage.
Okay, I hate land destruction, but I kind of love the fact that you actually managed to build a constructed deck that uses one of the horrendously expensive common/uncommon colorless removal artifacts that they put in every set.
land destruction is so fun in 60 card formats, i play gruul ponza in pauper and its a blast. its p much playing control but you're also ramping out big stompy creatures. unfortunately i dont think itll every be printed into relevancy bc edh players do not run interaction and that is wizards main audience at this point :/
Against the Rush of Dread deck: Unstable Glyphbridge would destroy bloodletter if you kept caustic bronco because it destroys all but one creature with power 2 or less
I run something similar to this but get extra value off Saheeli, the Sun's Brilliance. 2 to make a copy that sacs itself, then 2 from esoteric to make a permanent copy. I think I had like 8 Synthesizers at one point. Either way its a solid combo that adds some extra value if the opponent is silly enough to let saheeli go uncontested.
I was searching for cards to kill mirrex in control decks and I found this video. This is nutty, I hope I don't have to play against this, lol. Maybe territory forge will be OK for control, probably my worst match up.
Seth please make a brawl or edh deck using Hazezon as general for playing deserts from the grave and then just play mass land destruction, like Fall of Thran or Armageddon.
Hindsight is 20/20 against the Goose Mother you could have tapped your two tokens, sawblade, duplicator, and extruder to flip smithy for your fifth land to cast the bridge. Dunno if that would have saved you but it netted another turn maybe.
Dang it I was blowing up people's lands all last night and now the secret is out. The real dirty trick this deck is missing is Enigma Jewel / Collector's Vault (and omen hawker, but it runs into removal if you're zero creatures otherwise). You can power out a 5 mana spell on turn 3, you can double boom box activations
glyphbridge lets you choose which creature with power 2 or less they keep. You could have let the bronco live and use the glyphbridge to destroy the bloodletter
Intimidation campaign can be good in the right deck. Repeatable card draw, life gain, and life loss on a single card is a lot. It also is card parity (not card advantage or disatvantage) but on its own, yes, its not spectacular.
The issue with flotsam/ jetsam in commander is that it's three colors, and it doesn't really fit into what the most popular sultai decks are trying to do (i.e. mill yourself, and get value from permanents) I guess you could put it into a sultai theft shell, but it's a bit hit or miss. If it also got something from your own graveyard, or was just dimir colored, I think it'd see more play. That was a really sick brew though.
sultai doesn't like self mill and grinding out value from permanents? the like definitive dredge colors? sultai is one of the best color pairings to get value out of self mill
I meant that yes, self mill is what sultai wants, and while flotsam jetsam is generically good, it doesn't take from your own graveyard. Thus it's not really a payoff for self mill (nor is it an easily recurrable permanent), so people drift away from it naturally. If there's ever a sultai commander that cares about instants/sorceries, it'll spike in popularity for sure
I was thinking that it might be worth it to put more things that make power stone shards because the shards are true ramp for this deck and they should be cheaper than a lot of the stuff already in this deck.
Despair, destruction, dismay, desperation, distress. Seths core values.
