What's their performance like? I could listen to her voice all day long, and their harmonizing, and beautiful, pure sounds...but performance is something different than those things. If you don't mind talking about it or have the time... :)
They were as good or better live-Karen Carpenter had one of the best female voices ever and Richard was the genius who blended the harmonies together-gosh that was so long ago-I was 19 when I saw them but when you saw them you never forgot it.
Yes but I was wondering more about the performance. I can hear the voices and harmonies now from shows, videos and music recording from CDs and such. I wanted to know what the live show was like, whether she was drumming, whether there was dancing, or talking with the audience... you know what I mean I think now, like what was the "show" like :) Oh and yes I think Karen's voice is one of the best voices for most females ever :)
To date, there is no one, and I mean NO ONE, who can sing and effortlessly and precisely nail a note like this woman! If watching and hearing this great live rendition does not bring a tear in your eye and pull your heartstrings clear up your tonsils, you are clearly not human. And as for Richard. He's a musical genius!
I suffered from anorexia as well but thankfully got through with it with the help of my husband. It's a nightmare. Rest in peace our lovely karen. You will always be in our hearts ♥️🙏
every person that sings a Carpenters does not hold a candle to those two. I'm 15 years old and she perfects every song she sings and he arranges songs and make them better than they were.
I'm born in 2000 and im so sad i didnt get to reach this legend. I really love this song. It makes me feel calm, at peace and happy. Her voice is no different from the studio ver.
I’m 30 so wasn’t even born when they released this song in 1970. But I am OBSESSED with their vocals. Nothing comes close, such raw amazing talent which simply doesn’t come round in my time. I could listen to the last part of the song when they fade out on repeat non-stop 🖤🖤🖤
oh karen you've been missed so much... todays music is a crack...there would never be another Karen & voice like that today and forever, bcoz Karen is only one, a true Diva, Artist, singer, vocalist and mostly a LEGEND...4ever...
The most Beautiful & Angelic person I have ever seen. Voice of an Angel, Eyes of God- Karen Carpenter. The Carpenters contribution to music is so apprieciated by millions of people, even today. This was the Best selling American group between 1970-80 The Carpenters band was second to none, Richard's hard work should be rewarded with a Life time achievement award, & The Hall of Fame needs to open their eyes & realize that this group should have been put in a long time ago.
Look up Karen Carpenter-'Rainbow Connection'.......According to Richard, she recorded the vocal track, accompanied only by the toy piano you hear at the beginning. The orchestration would be worked out later. She was just sort of doing a 'sample'. Richard said she didn't like how she sounded, and the idea was 'shelved'. After her death, he went back & finished it. It sounds fantastic. I got to see them in South Lake Tahoe near the end of her life. GREAT concert. Wish I could remember more.
"Close to You", the Carpenters classic song which began their fame & fortune with the hot-selling album of the same name, winning them their first 2 Grammy's in 1970 as Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo, beating out fellow nominees Jackson 5, Simon & Garfunkel, Chicago & the Beatles, their idols! Love the close-ups of Karen, Richard & the band. This is my favorite Carpenters look of the early '70's.
It's astounding to me that it's nearly impossible to find any notes that Karen didn't hit in any of the live UA-cam postings. How could anyone sing so close to perfection?!
78 year I was born I just love this sound love this music in awe everytime I hear her voice and it also breaks my heart what went down she and nobody deserves that rip Karen forever in our hearts
shes gorgeous and awesome song love karen we miss u angel ive listened to their music since the 70s never gets old timeless shes singing in heaven shes an angel fasho
I´ll always love keren`s voice, it was so sweet that feel i am in the heaven, it was a pity she died so young, but you are close to God right now, singing for him
This entire concert is a tribute to the talents of both Karen and Richard - their harmony vocals are amazing on this entire concert - thank goodness for the BBC recording them at their very peak.
I have een leassing to the Carpenters for years, I was so sad when She passed, Karen was a grate atrest and will be missed by many. She was so paceful and her music can touch you in a way that is undescrible
Karen Carpenter was one of the great pop singers of the seventies and early eighties. How early she was lost too soon. But Karen has a wonderful song log, with us forever.
@shnooger Actually both the vocal and the music *is* live here- for example, on the recording, it's a trumpet solo; here, it's a clarinet. The background harmonies are minus Karen (all men, some doing falsetto).
I had the honor of seeing them perform this live in Chicago.

R they good?
Lucky youuuu
Her voice is like warm caramel. It’s just so smooth and rich and wraps around you with so much warmth 🤎
Brittany..You described her voice perfectly. Thanks for your comment. She meant so much to me.............Betsy Basile
She had one of the most beautiful voices ever. Hearing her voice is very real and melts my heart. RIP Karen Carpenter

And as for Richard. He's a musical genius!
AGREED.
Go have a watch Astrud Gilberto - Corcovado. Beautiful and so effortlessly smooth too. Carpenters is great too though.
Maybe Julie Andrews
Billie Elish and Finneas remind me of them, I know, different era of music, just throwing it out there
true as blue :)
Oh gosh, she was so freaking good and beautiful
Sean Dun nobody hahahaha!
I suffered from anorexia as well but thankfully got through with it with the help of my husband. It's a nightmare. Rest in peace our lovely karen. You will always be in our hearts ♥️🙏
Glad you did and glad you have a good husband. ❤️👍
Today, Feb 4 2023 marks 40 years since this glorious Angel left our World.
Still feeling sad 😥 whenever I hear her.
every person that sings a Carpenters does not hold a candle to those two. I'm 15 years old and she perfects every song she sings and he arranges songs and make them better than they were.
She's a beautiful angel, I was born in this latest generation but I wished I was born in her generation to see her and show my full support to her.
How could you ever NOT love Karen Carpenter..?

0:14/15. Her face is priceless when her brother hits the wrong chord on the piano. Lol. Sigh. I wish she was still living. :)

oh karen you've been missed so much... todays music is a crack...there would never be another Karen & voice like that today and forever, bcoz Karen is only one, a true Diva, Artist, singer, vocalist and mostly a LEGEND...4ever...

I'm in awe of how perfectly she sings. Music and artists like these are so missed. Live for crapsakes! sheesh.
The voice of an angel!
I can't find any better song for my sons for their birth days . Thank you for the happiness that shines forever, my kids and my dear mother.
My gosh, the Carpenters wrote brilliant music. Pure heaven.
This is a Bacharach/David composition actually.
What an angel... Now she's singing in Heaven. RIP.
this woman has the most beautiful voice in the world..
I admire him..
She was a joy to listen to. She is forever young.
An actual voice of an angel. Perfect and effortless yet so much emotion.

Just so simple and beautiful!
Perfect vocals..no autotune..no backing track..no dj.
Music.
Burt Bacharach left us, February 8th, 2023...40 years and 4 days after Karen soared to heaven. GIFTS!

This one is way better than the other one in UA-cam. Other one suddenly cuts. This one has the beautiful outro.
Simplicity sometimes is exactly why today's songs come and go and this remains a classic.
The voice of an angel. My all time favorite song with god only knows a close 2nd.
seriously one of the most lovely songs in the history of music.
Omg she’s a beautiful angel♥️she truly was a beautiful person
I just like to enjoy her music and celebrate her life. Deo Gratias.
Praise All The Heavens I finally found the correct arrangement for this tune no weak spots no endless repetitions of the lalalalala

Questa canzone così bella... Ha del commovente 😢❤
One of the nicest voices, including when live. Smooth.

Wow must be the best show ever
I think Carpenters' is the sweetest version of this song. Thanks for posting!
I wonder what year this was... she looks thin already compared to her performance in 74. 😢
Que graca, que doçura. Uma boneca.
いい曲ですよね。
Flawless.
Her story is so sad, death by anorexia. Does anyone else find this song sort of haunting considering her life struggles and her sad end?
Yeah, always I listen this song think of her sad death
I think about it when I hear "we've only just begun" because of the lyrics
The voice of an Angel ❤️
